Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
Audiobook - thoroughly dependable and pleasant narration. Story - 3.5 stars. I preferred the first book, Ophelia had to start learning to pick her battles and put the good of the most people first, but her headlong rush into danger to save others was the most appealing part of her in book one. There were so many artefacts though...I liked the idea of the catacomb walls. River and Sunny are the best.
This is the second book in the Charassi’s Fae Queen series, and as you might imagine, it picks up exactly where the last book left off. The evil prince from the fae world has stranded the fae queen from Texas back in her human hometown. She is stranded with the good fae prince, Corrin. Of course, they figure out their way back to the fae realm … and with a few fun new magical artifacts! Unfortunately, things have gone from bad to worse back in Charassi in just the few weeks they've been gone. While I like the main characters (and creatures!) in this book, I get a little frustrated with both the hero and heroine. While both tend to foolishly act from their noble tendencies to help others and do what they believe to be the best course of action, they always do so at great peril to themselves. Not smart! I prefer characters who act with intelligence! The heroine particularly does this almost continually. At times, I just wanted to shake her and convince her of her own worth and that to truly do the most good for the most people and creatures of her realm, she must protect herself so she can keep fighting the good fight. Hard to do the best for your friends and your people if you're no longer alive! Will the hero and heroine be able to defeat his evil queen mother? Much is at stake in this book, and the book does end on a cliffhanger. Mostly, I liked the female narrator, though I have issues with both her pronunciation of the hero's name and the voicing she chooses to give him. His name is Corrin, but the narrator pronounces it like the female name Corinne. I automatically think of a woman when I hear that name, even though I have listened to two audiobooks in this series. I think it should be pronounced CORE-in. Then she voices him to make him almost sound as if he's a young child of 10 or 11 instead of the grown fae prince that he is. Despite this one annoying anomaly, I have very much enjoyed this series so far and am looking forward to digging into the next audiobook, which I luckily already have downloaded. Highly recommended, though I certainly recommend you start with the first book.
I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.
I finished the first book in just one day. To say I was pulled into this incredible world is an understatement, hahahaha. I can’t wait to see what’s next—poor Corrin, he truly deserves a better family. I love how the story doesn’t rely on every single cliché plotline; it feels subtle and refreshing. I really wanted to see her family being introduced to Corrin and River, damn!
I’m so pissed at Ophelia… she’s being such an idiot. Can’t she see? Not everyone can be saved. And now she decides to rescue their allies in the city alone. Why? Because she’s stubborn. Corrin told her to wait until morning, but no—dumb Ophelia insists on going when Corrin and River are completely exhausted after fighting nearly thirty soldiers by themselves. I feel like she’s about to learn a brutal lesson… I just hope River doesn’t get captured while they’re trying to find the damn Queen.
I want to cry—seriously cry. This book immerses you so deeply that I’m in absolute despair over what happens. I hate Corrin’s mother so much.
But I loved this book—so much angst!! I can’t wait to start the next one. Ophelia is finally starting to grow, too. She has to realize things are more serious than ever, and that as the High Queen, her responsibilities are greater than ever. The world-building is on another level—so rich with details, politics, and races.
This is an exciting story line featuring Ophelia Monroe and Prince Corrin’s dangerous adventure. An evil Fae causes the two of them to be stranded on Earth which means that Ophelia and Corrin will have to figure out some way to get back to Charassi. By the time they do, everything has changed and the people are afraid. Will there be anyone to assist Corrin and Ophelia lead their attack on the castle? Retaking the throne won't be easy, especially with Emalda’s dark powers being used against them. Ophelia and Corrin must get her stolen Bone Crown back and find a way to protect the dragons and Fae or all will be lost.
The narrator for the audiobook version, Mago Weston, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.
The story is a lot darker than the first book of the series. The characters come to life, especially Ophelia as she accepts her responsibilities and recognises her weaknesses as she tries to come to terms with her role as Fae Queen of Charissa. The character development in the book is excellent. The desperate race to win back the throne before Vie and Emalda take total control of these magical lands is full of twists and turns. Allies and traitors abound, and tension builds as Ophelia makes one too many mistakes. Our hero and heroine have to face betrayal, devastating losses and a twist that I certainly didn't see. As the tension built to the final climax, I found it difficult to put this book down. The ending was not unexpected, but I, for one, was cheering. Bring on the next in the series
I really liked the first book. Started book 2 immediately. Can't finish it. Everyone has grown,,our sweet prince,,,the dragons,,,but our leading lady,,, not so much. The author sells her to us as this big hearted kid who has a savior complex and always puts others first. She's not though,,, she has had no personal growth so she's still acting out and letting her emotions rule her and it doesn't seem to matter who suffers as a result,,,, this heroine is young and spoiled and selfish and not too smart or savvy,,, I don't like books that portray women as slaves to their emotions incapable of logical or strategic thought. It's insulting.
Another page turner in this fae series and great continuation. Trapped on Earth Ophelia and Corrin are going to have to find a way back to Charassi. The threat is growing and difficult decisions need to be made especially as Corrin’s family is involved.
Action packed with twists and turns along with a very unique world makes this a fantastic dragon and magical adventure. Strong characters and great world building.
A strong ending and eagerly looking forward to seeing the next story.

The Usurper’s Thrown by Ava Richardson is a spectacular coming-of-age story with fantasy and dragons. While a bit of a departure from her normal works it still contains all of the elements she is known for a story. once again she has created an an outstanding sequel that shows the characters facing tremendous challenges and learning more about the world and themselves in the process. I loved every single word of the story. I am now eagerly awaiting to see how what comes after the Usurper‘s Throne.

The story continues this unique amalgamation of dragon lore and fae fantasy telling. Queen Orphelia is trapped on earth with the greater fae prince Corrin, after the usurper prince Vie closes the portal to Charissa. This tale depicts Orphelia's struggle to return to Charissa and her struggle to come to terms with her responsibility to her throne and people. There are great characters, and the dragons Sunny and River are endearing. I am so excited for this series. 5/5 stars.

Ophelia and Corrin try to get allies who will help them fight Emalda and Vie so that Ophelia can rule as the High Queen. Ophelia finds an artifact that allows Sunny, her dragon, to reappear to help her for one hour. This helps as Corrin and Ophelia lead their first attack on the castle, they are attacked by unmades and face Emalda with dire results. The feelings between Ophelia and Corrin have progressed to being more than friends. I look forward to what happens next to Ophelia and Corrin.

The book was great. The plot is captivating, it's a real escape from another world. The difficulties that the main characters face seem to be unsurmountable.
The writing style is great. I like the pace of the story, the change between M and F point of view, descriptiona of the city and the land.
And dragons!!! I see them as majestic beasts and everytime I read about them I dream I could have one!
Can't wait for another book!

It’s the first book I’ve read by this author. I’ll definitely get caught up with the first book in the series and the rest to follow! Im curious to see how Ophelia and Corrin’s relationship will continue to grow and what will happen to River.
a great sequel in the Charassi’s Fae Queen series, it has a great plot going on and the writing style that I enjoyed from Ava Richardson in the past. I enjoyed the characters and what was going with them. I look forward to more in this series.

Truly interesting! Unlike other fantasies, the way that dragons were incorporated really made the book fun to read. A pretty good fantasy novel and one I’m happy to have read! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the adventure and romance, and I can’t wait to order my own copy and immerse myself once again in this world. :)
As always , author has given her avid readers another thrilling escape into fantasy land. As you read you are drawn into an exciting, amazing world enjoying awesome characters. I am right there fighting with them. I have already ordered next in series and cannot wait to start it.
Exciting, heartbreaking and loyalty that shines in unexpected twists. Ophelia and Corrin make it back to find the kingdom drastically changed due to Vie’s cruelty. Also so many unmade just wandering the streets and citizens loyal to Corrin being harassed. This book and series has so many twists and turns and I loved it.
No other words can describe the characters and world building ing the second installment if Charassis Far Queen. This book takes you inside the mind of pure evil and a pure heart. You find yourself in chaos, feelings of betrayal and despair. Then hope floods your senses as Love sets the battle.!!
Congratulations to Ava Richardson for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
Great follow up for the series bk 2, as Ophelia and Corrin find a way back to Charassi and set in progress the plans to retrieve the bone crown after it was stolen. Fast paced action and new helpers emerge. Ready for bk 3
A truly phenomenal book - Ava Richardson is a master of the genre. Suitable for YA and adults alike - I couldn't put this down and eagerly await the concluding part.

I will leave no spoilers I love Ophelia's story that continues to let us see more of who she is and at what length she will go for those she loves I am thankful for a slow burn romance from Ava. The series continues after a cliffhanger. Anxious for the next and the next!
An amazing follow up to a great sorry start. I loved how this had continued from book one and it’s left me wanting even more. So many new twists that kept me captivated. I love where this story is going!
