Blood is thicker than water, unless yours wants to kill you . . .
In Immoral: Tales of a Vampire Hunter, Book One, Oliver and Miranda discovered the truth about their unique vampire/vampire hunter genetics and clawed their way out of a world of immorality and destruction. A world seething with secrets and lies. Now, they are on the run, hunted by enemies with deadly agendas. They’ll do anything to survive and live the life they dream of, in peace. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil lurks in their family tree and must be defeated. They must fight to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive. But there are rules. Rules that control the balance of the world. If broken, they could destroy everything. When new threats come like an inevitable storm, will they be able to fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths? Will their love for each other be enough to save them, or will they be torn apart forever?

I was given this book by the author for an honest review. This book picks up right where the first one left off. Oliver and Miranda are on the run from both of their families. They travel through Mexico and what they find before them is unbeleivable. Plagued with dreams of sacrifice and blood the pair must figure out on their own who and what to believe. I loved the concept, it was a great story with the promise of more to come!!
Wow...It was good that I got both the books together or else I would have died LOL. Perfect end and I loved when I got some answers. Zander has written a very beautiful story. Exciting and hooking. With full of surprises and twists and turns. You will love this series.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review but in truth, I would have paid for it anyway.
In Depraved; Tales of a Vampire Hunter II, we rejoin Oliver and Miranda exactly where the first book left off—with the couple on the run, in love and questioning their newfound abilities. They end up in Mexico, of all places, and run into more trouble as their connection to each other strengthens and they gain more control of their supernatural powers.
I can’t remember the last time I read a book that used Mexico as a backdrop, especially a Mexico that doesn’t feature one of the familiar tourist places one would expect to see. The locations are richly drawn and Vyne uses them perfectly to build the story around Oliver and Miranda’s search to understand each other better by exploring the history and lore of their own vampire and vampire hunter pasts.
One thing I loved about the last book is Vyne’s unique take on the mysticism of this supernatural world. We get even more of that here, with ties with Aztec history, connections with the blood rites of the ancient religion, werewolves and other superstitions. On top of that is the great love story of these two people. Oliver is just yummy and Miranda isn’t a whiney girly girl who has to be saved. They are both capable and likeable and I just like being around them.
I know this is a trilogy and Vyne gives us a tease of the next book at the end, but I want to read it now! When all three books are out, I look forward to reading them again, one right after the other for that long series experience. I hope she's got her fingers on the keyboard because I can't wait for more.
Depraved is the second story in the Tales of a Vampire Hunter series by Zander Vyne, and follows the continued adventures of Oliver Ripley and Miranda Vladula. The author does not disappoint in this second installment! The tale picks up where "Immoral" left off, with our heroes on the run from the rest of the vampires and vampire hunters. The pair made it to Mexico safely, but now encounter a new host of strange characters and dangers. The story is a roller coaster ride of twists and turns - you are never sure who to believe or who to trust. The duo continue to learn more about themselves and their powers, and also realize that together they are a force to be reckoned with.
The author has added some wonderful details of mythology to the story, and I really enjoyed reading about the Aztecs. Her characters are developing into complex personalities, and are not only three-dimensional, but also very real and likeable. As a reader, you are invested in what happens to them. I was glad with who turned out to be the "good guy" as well. That said, I truly cannot wait for the next story to see where Oliver and Miranda end up next.
Depraved is the second installment of Zander Vyne’s Tales of a Vampire Hunter trilogy, and the action takes up exactly where the previous novel ends. In the first book Oliver, born into a long family heritage of vampire hunters, and Miranda, a vampire, have discovered that they both share the powers and abilities of the other clan—and that they’ve fallen in love (and lust). Both of these discoveries caused them many life-and-death problems in Immoral, the first volume, and in Depraved they have escaped both of their families and are on the run to Mexico.
There are differences in style between the two books; I have not yet read the third. This book has a smoother, more consistent story; there are plot twists but fewer of the sharp, episodic turns the earlier story took. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Trying to find a safe place to hide from the worldwide networks of vampires and hunters who now see them as a threat, Oliver and Miranda head deeper and deeper into the interior of Mexico. They are, of course, soon discovered by someone (some~thing~) they did not expect, and the story introduces us to other species who both combat and cooperate with those hunting our protagonists.
Most interesting, to me, is that we begin to find out the *why* of all these power structures and hierarchies of paranormal species, as the story delves into ancient Aztec myths and their relation to the real/unreal world. We also learn some of the whys of Oliver and Miranda’s haunted childhoods—why they have always seen horrific things in mirrors that no one around them could, for example.
I will say that there is less emphasis on the erotic in this novel than the first, a bit of a disappointment for this reader. They’re too busy trying to survive!
While this trilogy has so far been well-written with a structure that keeps the reader wanting to turn the page to the next chapter, the novels do not stand alone very well—they are closely connected, one proceeding from the first. I would not recommend this novel if you have not read Immoral first; it is in that novel that we get to know the characters and their backgrounds, as well as understand the story thus far. I do, however, recommend this once you’ve caught up!
