Reality is serious business to mixed-media artist Clara Marie Simmons, especially after she catches her ex cheating. When her mentor gives her an antique nutcracker doll during a Christmas trip to England, she's swept into an adventure that threatens to upset every belief she's ever had about love, trust, and the physics of possibility. Is it finally time for her heart to kiss fear and pain goodbye, or is this fantasy tryst nothing more than a holiday dream gone way too far?
After acting out of duty to kingdom and family, a curse traps Matthias Drosselmeier in the body of a nutcracker doll. For years, he's longed for the sarcastic, beautiful woman that works in his uncle's studio. Finally released from the curse, the prince-to-be is now ready to possess Clara Marie mind, body and soul. Although duty calls, Matthias must find a way to capture his elusive Earthen love, or risk losing her forever. Will fear ruin a good thing, or can his love finally teach Clara Marie to believe in the impossible?
Met the author in an uber a few months ago and after forcing her to tell me the name of her book, I downloaded a sample and sent it to my kindle to remind myself to read it over the holidays. Intrigued by the first chapter, I ended up buying it. I enjoyed the spin on the classic tale and how she incorporated the underlying themes of the original work into her own. Not too cheesy, some words/phrases felt forced, but overall a quick fun holiday read. If next book is focused on Lukas, I'd definitely consider buying.
