Will Jordan was born in Fife, Scotland in 1983. He is best known as the author of the RYAN DRAKE series of action thrillers, and for his YouTube alter-ego, THE CRITICAL DRINKER, amassing well over a million followers and quickly becoming one of the most popular movie critics on the internet. Having always enjoyed a passion for storytelling, he began writing short stories from a young age, eventually moving up to full-length novels and the publication of his first Ryan Drake novel in 2012.

Wow! Just when you think that you understand what's going on, you find out that there's been an even longer game that 's being played. Trust no one because everyone has a secret agenda. Drake goes on a hunt to find Anya only to find that the past won't let anyone go free. A thrilling and action-packed story!

Will Jordan, I salute you. Ryan Drake is now my favorite series.
Betrayal is the third book of the series and we get to know Anya's past a little better. Her back story made my cry and of course....no matter how ruthless she is I'll always root for her. This series is actually a story about conspiracy and revenge. Poor Ryan Drake got himself tangled in this web of lies and betrayal that originated from Anya's past. Somehow this series reminds me of Harry Potter in the way that it is very well planned. This is an intense and gripping story with such thrilling plots and surprise twists you'd never know what to expect in the next book.

Warning: Once you start this series you can't stop.

It subverted my expectations both in a negative and positive way. The pacing improved much from the second book Sacrifice and the story was far more engaging,but it for me at least some parts felt they were stretched out too long the buildup to the climax was great though.
The Miranova twist came as a surprise to me but the Anya faking death was too obvious. Through the trilogy she rarely loses or faces any serious drawbacks in her ultimate plan. She basically has the skill and power of Metal Gear Solid 3's The Boss, seems comically over powered sometimes. Last but not least in my subjective view for the life of me I still can't understand Ryan Drake's motives for doing anything he did thus far. I get the redemption and wanting a second chance at the agency then getting "enchanted" by Anya's story n shit. But at the end of the day since the world is realistic threes no real permanent change any of them could accomplish. It's either dying getting revenge or surviving long enough to see a temporary change before things go back to the way they were.
Aside that I don't have any complaints took me a while to read the book due to starting a new job. I think the author should consider maybe starting a new franchise maybe Fantasy or Sci-Fi he certainly has shown attention to detail, perhaps a break from the current franchise might reinvent him.

4 stars only because of some irritating mistakes that reduce the credibility of the author.

There are no pews in orthodox churches, Branka is a female name (the male version would be Branko), December 24 is not Christmas Eve in Russia, there are no yellow Lada taxi cabs at any of Moscow's airports, the chance for takeaway food boxes littering a room in Norilsk is extremely low, prisoners in Russia do not wear orange jump-suits, etc. etc. Moscow, Norilsk and Grozny in 2008 and their airports did look different than what the author wants to make us believe...and I wish I could see all these details on the Red Square from the backseat of a car standing at that particular intersection ;)

Anya's on the warpath, and Drake has to figure out what she's up to...and if she needs to be stopped.

I at first thought this entry in the series would be a standard hero-is-framed-and-must-prove-his-innocence arc, but the truth is much more engaging. Without spoiling too much, no one's motivations are quite what they may seem.

Once again, the characters are all well-realized, each bringing something to the search for answers following a murder in the supposed heart of western power. Jordan's writing, while solid, still overstays its welcome, at times, and, though I'd noticed it before, I'd decidedly grown familiar with some of his comfort phrases by book three. Namely, "Just like that," or some variant thereof. I'm far from guiltless in the area of phrase overuse, but it was something I noted. It didn't compromise the enjoyment of the story, but if I was one for phrase repetition drinking games...

Anyway, this is another fun spy thriller that satisfyingly advances the plot and characters. If you've enjoyed the first two in the series, by all means, keep going!

Well, I am so clearly off the page compared with general opinion that you can disregard this review with equanimity :). However, I'll say what I think. I thought the opening chapter of this book was excellent. Pacey, involving, just what I want in a thriller. Then it began to slip badly. The technology was entirely unrealistic - you know, you just can't hack into computers in some random part of Russia. And the characters, so dismally clunky and unbelievable. So I abandoned it. Maybe it picked up later, but hell this is supposed to be a roller-coaster pot-boiler, not a work of art. I don't have time to invest in ploughing through dross to find out.

An aptly titled novel. Throughout the story, Ryan struggles with his allegiance to his team and to Anya. The story develops slowly, pulling the reader inch by inch deeper into a plot littered with deception and intrigue. I did manage to figure out a few of the twists, but some still surprised me. Despite the book’s size, I breezed through it in a few days.

Good but tiring

Very good read. A bit wordy at times but enough action to carry through. You have to concentrate hard to keep those Russian names straight in your mind. And all the twist and turns and power plays could wear a person down. Made you wonder when it would end.

Plotting is exceptional. Characters are rich and complex. The letdown, as seems to be the case with Jordan, is the dialogue always feels rigid and stiff. Small complaint when the rest is so strong.

Okay, so I made it through book three!
The first one was a thrilling adventure ride with some cool characters, one overpowered superhero and a promising but somewhat bland protagonist, but nevertheless an entertaining read.
The second one was a bit more solid, more focused on story and characters, though the story felt a little more sluggish than the first.
So, what about this one?

Well, I'd say that if I was on the fence after the first book, and still not fully convinced after the second, now I'm finally sold.
The third book in the series takes the best sides of the previous two and amps them up, and the end result is a fast paced and engaging story that keeps the reader relentlessly glued to the book until the last page. In my opinion Betrayal is clearly the best in the series thus far.

The story opens in an explosive manner and we're thrown into the thick of action right from the start. There's a great balance of action and intrigue, and I loved the portrayal of Drake in the first chapters of the book - he's shown as very active, aware, and satisfyingly competent. Not Mr. Invincible, but very good at what he does - with his personality shining through.

Now having said that, it's true that very soon it becomes obvious that Drake is a complete idiot, or let's say that his motivations for doing what he decides to do are hard to justify, and his plan so utterly ridiculous that I just couldn't buy it. But I guess the story needed to happen, so there. It's also easy to spot several of the plot twists in advance (though there were some genuine surprises as well this time!), and sometimes "the evil plan" relies on luck a bit much for my taste. Language is somewhat repetitive at times but this is less of a problem in this book than in the previous ones. Still, the story is compelling enough that it's possible to forget those things. I greatly enjoyed the writing, pacing, and the characters (mostly!), and the story in this one is carefully crafted and certainly more intricate than the previous ones.

I'm starting to think Drake is a great main character, though it's becoming clearer and clearer that the true protagonist of the overarching storyline is not really him but Anya. This is fine with me, and I've always liked the concept of the main character of the book not being the actual protagonist of the story, and the author seems to have found the right balance between the two for now. Anya is still a bit too competent in everything to be quite believable, but at least she's more of a super spy than a superhero now, and there starts to be so much backstory for her that I'm finally starting to like her as a character instead of just focusing on the ridiculously overpowered feats she routinely does. Though, it's beginning to feel like there's only so much suffering and abuse that she can be told to have endured in the past, so maybe in the next book we finally get to explore the dark side of Drake a little?

Anyway. This is a riveting story full of backstabbing, lies, betrayal and ambitious plans, and at the heart of it all there's our competent but stubbornly simple-minded big-brotherly Drake with a heart of gold.

And I know that while it would've still been possible for me to stop after the previous book, now there's no going back - I need to see this story unfold, until the end.

I’ve got a soft spot for a gritty tale that keeps me hooked. Betrayal by Will Jordan, the third in the Ryan Drake series, is one I tore through quick, and it’s a solid win for anyone who loves a fast ride. This time, Drake—ex-soldier turned CIA hotshot—watches a sniper shred a Russian motorcade in D.C., only to find out his old flame Anya’s leading the chaos. It’s a wild chase to Siberia to sort truth from lies, and Jordan keeps it pumping with action that don’t quit.

This book’s got everything I dig—fast-paced, big stakes, and a story that twists like a backroad. Drake’s the kind of guy I’d share a beer with—tough, sharp, and wrestling with trust when Anya’s betrayal cuts deep. The shootouts and close calls hit hard, and the plot’s tight enough to keep you guessing without losing the thread. Sure, I spotted a couple of gun details off the mark—picky stuff like a mag release that don’t jive—but it’s no biggie, didn’t slow me down a bit.

By the end, Betrayal lands smooth—a rip-roaring thriller that’s got heart and hustle. It’s not perfect if you’re a gear nerd, but for me, it’s all about the ride, and this one’s a beaut. Perfect for kicking back and letting the tension of life roll off. If you’re into high-octane yarns that respect family and standing tall, grab this one—Jordan’s got the goods. Words are hard, but this read ain’t!

Pretty good. Didn't find it as gripping as the previous 2 books but good nonetheless.

I have been reading spy novels back to back recently so perhaps it's also a bit of spy novel fatigue. This series of books even uses some of the same locations as separate books I've been reading recently. Bagram Air Base for example (in Afghanistan?) was also in I Am Pilgrim I believe and I read that in between 2 of these Ryan Drake books.

But Betrayal. Ya, pretty good. Wasn't enthralled but it passed the time. The Drake and Anya thing developed a little. Kinda frustrating their relationship. I wish we could see a lot more of them together. In this and the previous book they were just dancing around each other and occasionally coming into contact. I'd like to see them together more and see that relationship develop. Presently, the only extended period they've had together was in the 1st book and that dynamic is fading a bit for me now. I think it needs some refilling. Perhaps in the next book(s).

Wish I had more to say but that's about it. Fair run-of-the-mill feeling spy novel. Page-turny enough. Certainly not a disappointment but also not totally captivating.

Will Jordan’s Betrayal brings the Ryan Drake series into Russia, combining the familiar cast of characters with a new set of antagonists and conspiracies. While it had been several months since I read Redemption and Sacrifice, this third instalment definitely reminded me of Jordan’s brilliant storytelling abilities. These include the clever switches between settings, the flashbacks situated seamlessly within the contemporary narrative, and, of course, the twists that transform your entire understanding of the plot thus far. There are some noticeable imperfections. The plots-within-plots and similar names can be momentarily perplexing, whereas the novel’s longevity leads to repetitive descriptions - for instance, the ‘sword above Drake’s head’ or reminders of Anya’s figure and ‘piercing blue eyes’. Yet, Betrayal is certainly better than Sacrifice and almost on a par with Redemption. And with that twist on the final page, I’ll be swiftly moving onto the next instalment.

3rd act is always exciting

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through Will Jordan's Drake series so far. His pacing throughout keeps you engaged. As with the second book, Jordan does a great job in the 3rd act as far as action and twists. Only thing that stuck out to me is how untraumatized the characters are after certain events. I'm still maybe brooding over a death in the second book that didn't get nearly enough response from the other characters, so I let that go. I'm really excited to continue reading the rest of the series, as this book ends with quite a revelation. I'm really curious as to if Jordan had this in mind when he created the character or he figured he could fit it in for more drama later on. Either way, I didn't see that coming and looking forward to where it leads in the story.

This third installment of the Ryan Drake series was a complete winner filled with mystery, intrigue, action, plot twists and a great climax that readers come to expect from great storytelling. This story was hard to put down as it dug deeper into the backstories of several of the characters including Anya and the tragedies and circumstances that molded into the soldier and master spy she had become. Most importantly, this novel builds upon the character development of the first two novels in regards to what drives her and what makes Ryan Drake tick. From this story, I find that there is more to Drake than meets the eye. The things I like about him is that he lives by a code of honor and a deep sense of loyalty to those he care about, particularly Anya and his Shepherd Team. It's the kind of story I'd read again because I enjoyed it so much. Highly recommended.

Great third book in this series! Will Jordan’s writing flows and I really appreciate the skill he uses in switching from different character’s viewpoints. We follow along with Ryan Drake but also seamlessly get to see other’s perspectives, motivations and feelings throughout this next adventure. I especially appreciate his portrayal of strong female characters without basing men or making them seem inferior. They all stand equally and on their own merit in a totally believable way. The action and story developments kept me hook right up to the last page. I’m looking forward to taking on the next book in this series very soon.

Ryan Drake returns, but this time against his own will.

I have to admit, after taking a break from this series, it took a fair few chapters to remember what was going on, and who liked or hated who. However, Betrayal does a decent job of being lapses readers back up to speed.

This was a fine action-filled thriller, but it did feel a little predictable in some spots. One aspect I appreciate about this series, is how human some characters feel, flaws and all.

What will be the real test though, is how Ryan and some characters, (I can't mention for spoilers), work as I can see the narrative really picking up the pace in part 4.

I've been having problems with the Anya character and the lengths Drake will throw himself and everyone around him under the bus to make sure she's OK. I don't mind suspending a bit of belief, but when you have information that would potentially stop a terrorist attack (as opposed to tracking down a single woman - Anya), you give that information to the authorities - I'm looking at you, Drake.  I'm also not sure why Sam and the gang are willing to follow Drake to the extent they do. I might give the series a bit of a rest.

Third book in the Drake series and am still really hooked! This story was action pact suspense intense read! The author is able to capture every emotions and makes you feel that you know every character as if you are there with them. I can’t wait to know what happens to Drake, his team and Anya as they are my favourite characters. You never know what will happen and you always get surprised as you go!
A series not to be missed for sure!

A fitting finale to the first part of this series

Having now completed the first three books of this series I must say I have found them very enjoyable. They are well paced stories with action, details with later pay offs and interesting characters. Perhaps most encouraging is not noticing the time pass as you follow the story. Would certainly recommend to anyone who likes action, spy or espionage style stories. I will certainly be continuing the series.

This was great. So many twists and turns that had me tuning out everyone so I could pay attention. We learn more about Anya's background and what made her the way she is. It also takes place in Russia which is interesting.

Another fun fast paced addition to the series. The great move is the switch from no longer guessing is A is involved, only in what capacity.

Change of scene plus tie in with historical events are amongst a few other excellent elements.
