Back by popular demand, Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) reprises her role as the captivating Emily Lane in the much-anticipated new season of Mistletoe Murders, from Canadian Screen Award winner Ken Cuperus. With Ginny & Georgia’s Raymond Ablack, plus a stellar ensemble cast featuring Anna Cathcart (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars), and Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience), this Audible Original will help you prepare for a cozy (and criminal) holiday season.
When Emily Lane isn’t busy running her charming Christmas-themed store, ''Under the Mistletoe,'' located in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, she finds herself compelled to investigate not so quaint local murders. On the surface, Emily is a perfectly lovely, good-natured puzzle-solver and mystery lover. But she is hiding a secret past from everyone in town. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective-Constable Sam Wilner, a smart and attractive local cop – with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited – begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.
Loved the first series and it extended well into the second- if not more! Given how the last ended, I couldn’t help but not launch straight into the next as it was available. They make for the easiest listening and the production on it is great. Really well acted and Colbie Smulders is always great no matter what she’s in. She manages to get sass, a whole bucket of personality and quirk into her characters and I loved Emily in this.
The same format as the last, 6 episodes of three stories in two parters. Enjoyed all the stories and the murder mysteries.
Character and plot progressions were great too and I can’t be the only one hoping for a series three next year! Because NO IT CANT END LIKE THAT!
Edit: I listened to it for a second year running so I can go into the new third series prepared and AH. I forgot it ended like that! Can’t wait to start number 3. Off I go..! See you in the next review.
EDIT 2: listened again. Enjoyed it again. Immediately onto the next one!!
I found this podcast/cozy mystery series as I was scanning for Audible freebies and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this trio of Christmasy murder mysteries.
These short stories are set in the small town of Fletcher's Grove (the name is perhaps a nod to Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote which was set in Cabot Cove?) and centre around Emily Lane, the owner of a Christmas-themed shop who sticks her nose into the investigations of a few murders that happen in the small town. On top of the growing body count, there is also the mystery about Emily's past which is alluded to and will keep me eagerly hoping this series continues.
Wonderfully narrated by a full cast - including Canadian actress Cobie Smulders (of How I Met Your Mother and MCU fame), these 30ish minute cozy mysteries are made even better by background sounds which give the stories an audio play feel.
This was an enjoyable series of Christmas cozies with bits of humour and good murder mysteries that are a quick listen - perfect for the busy holiday season when you want to read something light.
This audiobook takes place around Christmastime, but is fun to listen to no matter what time of year it is. This is a full cast narration, with the main character voiced by actress Colbie Smulders. Emily Lane runs a year-round Christmas-themed store, but there is more to her than it appears. Emily's knack for solving crimes is no accident - she has a secret past that seems to make her uniquely qualified for sleuthing!
The book includes three short mystery stories, each with the potential of romance between Emily and local police detective Sam Wilner. In the past I had problems focusing on audio books, but I've discovered that my favorites are the full-cast narrations like this one, since it's like listening to a play. Colbie Smulders is wonderful, and all of the other characters are well-voiced. The mysteries are fun and I was entertained by all three stories. This is the second book in the series, and now I want to go back and listen to the first one. I hope there will be a third book coming out this year since the last story of Mistletoe Murders 2 ended with an intriguing cliffhanger.
The mysteries persist in being interesting. I was sad to lose one of my favourite side characters though. Do I still prefer the Hallmark version? Yes, they do better character development… surprise, surprise.
Content: less language than seasons 1 but still occasionally present; affairs (one between two women) form the back bone of 2 of the the mysteries; innuendo
5🌟 I love the voice actors. All the sound effects. This is a fantastic listen, a great mystery series. I cannot wait for the next one. These are going way too fast for me, more please!!!
I absolutely love these stories and can’t wait for more. I have no idea how much time or money is put into this but it’s high quality and fantastic voice actors and sound effects are spot on. They aren’t to loud or to often and not distracting. They just add to the overall experience. Great mysteries and character development. I only wish it was longer because it’s so good. Can’t wait for more!
This was so good, I love the little murder mystery type of stories. The continued storyline of Emily and Sam is so nice, and I’m curious to see how the next story develops.
The follow up to 2022’s Mistletoe Murders, an Audible Original, does not disappoint.
I loved that this could be listened to on its own, as there is enough refreshing done to help you understand the connections the characters have, but I loved having the knowledge of the town and its inhabitants already. Fletcher’s Grove reminds me so much of Murder, She Wrote’s Cabot Cove; they both have charming characters, fun locations, and murder seems to land in front of one mystery loving amateur sleuth (the nod to Jessica Fletcher’s name seems very intentional). Cobie Smulders, Raymond Ablack, and Anna Cathcart shine once again with their voice performances, alongside a full cast of characters and well-done production. Each of the three stories continued with the classic Hallmark movie vibes with a murder mystery twist. Canadian set stories are always a lot of fun, especially when there’s a Nova Scotia (Halifax) shoutout. The stakes feel higher in the final story (Hung By The Chimney) with the death of a beloved character from the first book, movement in Sam and Emily’s relationship, and that cliffhanger at the end!
Mistletoe Murders 2 are stories of murder, deception, trust, connection, and safety. The delightful voice cast and light-hearted mysteries continue to make the perfect festive season listen. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
The second in the currently three-part series does a great job of building onto the previous entry. Also, as Emily becomes more a part of the town of Fletcher’s Grove, the closer to the people in the mysteries she is. The book also does a great job of dropping hints about Emily’s past. The book does kind of end on a cliffhangerish note, but Emily starts to build trust in Sam and their relationship ratchets up a notch.
These little mysteries are so good but not sure how good they would be without the full cast narration. It really brings the story alive. I binged all three parts in one sitting, and I wish more were available. I also love how this book is making good on little hints that were dropped in the first one.
Emily Lane/Cobie Smulders saves Christmas for me this year. Because I've not had much luck picking titles that have made me feel very festive so far this December, but this one... This one is a home run in all the best ways for me.
Don't get me wrong: It's light weight entertainment, but in a certain way that just works and is just that: Immensely entertaining! And really well done. The production is so high end, I'm just in love with it too. The entire project is brilliant.
Straight up my alley and up the top of the Christmas tree. Wonderful!
Another three episodic holiday-themed mysteries focused on Emily Lane, a Christmas store owner with a mysterious past. The quality was on par with the first audiobook, but the third and final mystery in this audiobook veered a bit far from the cozy vibes of the earlier ones.
This was another entertaining installment in the Mistletoe Murders series. Emily is back on the case when a series of murders happen in their quaint town. She has help from the local hottie, Detective Sam, as they also try to figure out their hot-and-cold relationship. I'm really enjoying this cozy mystery series and can't wait to read the 3rd volume.
Wow aussi bon que le premier tome! La voix de Léane Labrèche-d’or et Frédéric Pierre rendre les personnages très attachants. C’est léger et très divertissant! Déjà hâte au troisième.
