Once upon a time, two worlds collided... and nothing was ever the same again.
At twenty-eight years old, all Gwen Winters has to show for herself is a relationship in shambles. While her best friend is getting married and moving on, Gwen can’t help but wonder if she will ever obtain the life she’s always dreamed of. Just as things start looking up, an unfortunate encounter with a cryptic fortune teller instantly turns her entire world upside down. Gwen is snatched from the familiarity of her reality and finds herself trapped in a terrifying and magical realm where nothing is as it seems.
In this strange new world, fairytale characters are real…but these are not the stories she’d always been told. Red Riding Hood’s wolf is bewitched, the mermaids are murderous, and Prince Charming is far from the hero. Even the smooth-talking pirate captain is not the complete scoundrel she thought he’d be. With his help, Gwen sets out on a daring journey to seek the one person who can help her get back home.
In this high-stakes adventure that she never asked for, danger lurks around every corner. Trust is hard to earn—and even harder to give. And while her ill-fated feelings reluctantly grow, Gwen must consider if, like everything else she misunderstood about the fables, happy endings just don’t exist.
Arielle was born and raised in North Carolina, where she still resides when not exploring the imaginary worlds inside her head. As a wife, mother, and avid fairytale fan, Arielle enjoys spending time with her family, writing stories in the quiet moments (however few and far between they are), attempting to paint pretty pictures, and having Disney movie marathons.
Arielle has always been inspired by the magic that lives inside the timeless stories of her childhood and contributes her decision to write her debut novel, Disenchanted, to the dreamy nostalgia that those stories sparked.
Hold on to your spyglass, buccaneers, it’s about to be a bumpy ride.
Dim the lights and enjoy a cup of tea as you’re transported into the wonderfully whimsical fantasy land Arielle Snow created in her debut, Disenchanted. This beautiful rendition of some of our favorite storybook characters is electric and spunky, it kept me on the edge of seat from the very beginning to the very end.
The twists and turns of Disenchanted is absolutely breathtaking. The storytelling and descriptions throughout the book sucks you in like a whirlpool of magic. The main female protagonist, Gwen, is fiery, lively and high spirited, which makes her relatable in every sense of the word. The main male character, Demetri, is dark and powerful, making you feel a little better about your past relationships. Kind of.
I want to commend Arielle for successfully creating a world we can envision and lose ourselves into, without going too far off the beaten path. The storyline flows so nicely and every character that comes into contact with our female lead has a purpose in helping her reach her goals.
I am a stickler for cohesion and Arielle does that from start to finish. The fact that this is a debut, is marvelous. And the plot twist at the end was executed perfectly, I did not see it coming.
I want to thank Arielle and her team for giving me the opportunity to read this book! I was given it to review and I am eternally grateful!
I know many readers are going to love this book as much as I did. I’m excited to see what Arielle Snow has up her sleeve for the next book!!!
Okay for starters (while this has nothing to do with the content itself), this is THE FIRST fantasy book I have read that has a CLEAR map that is viewable on my Kindle. It’s the little details for me!
As for the actual book, I truly adored this. It felt like a nostalgic, pg 13 version of classic fairy tales. This book had a great balance of being action packed & plot driven, while also making me laugh along the way (“… as though I hadn’t just spent a whole ass day with Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother”). The main character and her world was relatable, and I found it really easy to imagine myself in her shoes throughout the book. I love how the author took fairy tales we all know and love and put her own spin on them to keep us guessing the whole book, too.
Also, the ending took me for a spin and was not what I expected AT ALL. I can’t wait to see what will happen next!
This book is amazing! I love the writing style of the author. This book caught my attention from beginning to end. If you enjoy fairytales with twists where nothing is at it seems, then run and read this book! I can't wait for the next one.
omg omg omg - not to be dramatic but i need the next book right now. Arielle Snow has a number one fan and it’s me. ☝🏻
(for the record, i started this book at 5:30pm today and i’m finishing it at 11pm.)
when i tell you this is one of the most fun and interesting books i’ve read in a long time, i seriously mean it. i couldn’t put it down. my kindle was permanently attached to my hand from page 1 through the end.
I LOVEEEEEE books based off of fairytales & this one really did it for me. It kind of gave me “Once Upon a Time” vibes (which btw, i’m obsessed). it was so fun reading the book and picking out the fairytale characters we all know and love. it was also so interesting to follow a character so relatable being thrusted from our modern world into a fantastical realm. it had me questioning how i would feel being plucked out of my life and put into Gwen’s situation.
I was laughing so much throughout this book…. and then i was swooning…. and then i was crying…... and then i was swooning AGAIN. i mean truly, so well done. vibes = immaculate.
OH AND TO NO ONES SURPRISE - IM IN LOVE WITH A PIRATE!!!!!! the way that swashbuckling man had me blushinggggggg 🤭
anyway, long story short, please read this book. releasing february 23rd 💖
(thank you so much for the ARC opportunity, so glad i was able to read this!!! these thoughts are entirely my own 😊)
Do you like adventure? Fairy tales? hunky Pirates? What about books that the words disappear and you have a movie reel in its place! This is what Disenchanted was for me!
I really enjoyed this story front start to finish and I cannot wait for the next book!
This book will be released February 23 and I recommend if you like fairy tales, adventure, or hunky pirates!!! Run don’t walk to get this!!!
I loved this book sooooo so much!!! It brought me back in time with all of the fairytale characters we know and love. There is also such a fun tension building romance and TWISTS and TURNS along the way!!
This was an incredibly immersive read. The writing was captivating and the characters were engaging. If you enjoy traditional fairytales with a delicious twist this book is for you. I couldn't put it down as I found myself along for the ride with Gwen and everyone she encounters along the way. Now I'm desperate for another book to continue the story. I need to know what happens next!
This is an ARC read! Thank you! :) Coming out 2/23/2024
My fav quote: "It's me, love"
I know it's a small quote, but if you know...you know!
I finished on 2/17/24, and I'm still thinking about this book!
Gwen is a great FMC- strong, fearless....but why she wants Jacob is beyond me. I can't stand Jacob. So, when she's thrown from her world to a fairytale land, I was ecstatic.
Red riding hood, Not so prince charming, Cinderella, Evil queen, Lost princess, not so nice mermaids.... and let's not forget the delicious captain, Demetri! So yum!
If you have never seen the last kingdom, you won't get this...so maybe go watch it! But prince Philip is seriously Aethelred-Lord of Mercia ... take my word for it...he's evil in that show and the same in this book! Ugh! You know it as soon as he turns up on the page... you immediately get the ick feeling! You should feel so lucky that a man of my stature would even deem a foul, spiteful woman like yourself worthy of such an honorUGH
I feel I am from Mystic Grove and Shadow ridge. I love when a book makes you feel not only connected to characters but the land too! The balcony scenes on the pirate ship were my favorite. I would give anything to be sitting there sipping rum with the hot pirate.
He brushed his hand against my face, letting his fingers fall around my neck before tilting my head up to face him. "Apologies hold no bearing. Sometimes there must be consequences". Let's just say.... this pirate will be staying in my mind and heart for a long time. New book boyfriend, YES!
I had a feeling from the beginning it was too good to be true, but the author was so great at creating such an adventure, I forgot my original theory... and when it came to fruition, I was so mad my original thought was true... but it'll be fine.....right?
The reason for not being 5 stars is some fighting scenes I got lost. I found myself re-reading the scene due to confusion on how she went from one place to another. Could be a me thing, but I'm usually good at following a scene. Either way I loved this book especially since I didn't see the ending coming!! I love a good plot twist! If I can't see what's coming, it's a good book in my eyes!
The ending has me needing book 2! One bad part about ARC reading... there's a long wait to know what happens next. For a moment, I was truly disliking the author for the ending... BUT to my surprise she wasn't done with the plot twists... thankfully! Now, I just need book 2 to put my mind at ease... will it?
I rated this book 3.5 but since there’s no half stars I rated it a 3. I’ll state I received a *early* copy in exchange for an honest review.
So things I liked about this book: the plot was interesting, the characters had some development from beginning to end, and by the end of the book I did find myself wanting to read more.
The book starts as we see our main character Gwen transported to a fairy tale world and she spends the entire time there fighting for her life.
I was not invested in the beginning of the book and thought about DNF. I wasn’t connecting with the characters and some of the dialogue and writing fell flat for me. There were some interesting scenes that happened but again, I really wasn’t interested. I found myself skimming or skipping a lot of the descriptive parts.
I’d say about 85% through is when I finally started to want to read more and started turning the pages as quick as I could.
The world building in the book was good enough but I found myself having to constantly go back to the map. It’s like she was trying to name and place everything in the book and I was so confused where tf they were half the time. It still fell almost flat to me? Idk, I was so confused that everything seemed the same to me. I just went off the descriptions and tried my best.
The Pegasus, sirens, and fairies were some of the more interesting creatures and I would love to learn more about them in the second book. I’m interested to see their lore from the world.
Also with Red and her wolf. I’d love a few chapters about Rowan and how she came to be.
A couple issues I had with the book are the attempted SA scene with Gwen was practically laughed off a few pages later. I did not like the interaction between Demitiri and Gwen about it at all.
It seems like Gwen is the only likable female character in the whole series. We barely meet any others that Gwen considers “likable” besides Bree and Cinderella. I would have loved to see more of her friendship with Bree or just to have that female friendship incorporated more.
Speaking of Demitri I wasn’t invested in him until the end either. He fell flat for me unfortunately, but he did grow on me before the book ended. Although he can eat dirt for a certain thing he did, iykyk. But if he calls her love one more time I might bash my head into a wall. I could’ve ripped my hair out at the amount of time he said it.
I loved watching them at Cinderellas castle and seeing the beloved princess come to life exactly how one would imagine.
I did predict the ending so it wasn’t a huge plot twist for me but it was interesting. Even though I thought it would happen it was still shocking when it did lol. I also knew something would happen with Demitiri. There was too much going on for it not to happen.
Overall, the book was not terrible. For it to be this authors debut I think she has a wonderful career ahead of her. I will be reading book two when it releases.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I think this is a wonderful debut novel. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting. I found myself eager to keep reading. I pretty much enjoyed it from the beginning but it really picked up more towards the end and that’s when I really became enchanted (haha see what I did there?) with this tale.
I loved how characters and creatures from some well known fairy tales appear in this book but not all are the same as the ones we grew up with. I found the differences to be interesting and can’t wait to see which ones pop up in future books. I really want to know more about Rowan. I hope there’s more about her coming up in the next book!
I think the only thing that kept me from giving this five stars is that there were parts that felt awkward. I don’t know if it was from word usage or just because of how some of the scenes felt too abrupt. I can’t put my finger on exactly whey. There was just something there that kept it from being five stars for me.
Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoyed it immensely. It made me laugh, gasp aloud, and generally feel all kinds of feels. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoys a fun fantastical read with fairy tale creatures and exciting action. There are even pirates!
I received an ARC and all opinions are my own. I am going to assume that the few issues I saw with punctuation will be fixed when it’s released. So I did not take those into consideration when rating this.
I received this book as an ARC read and O.M.G. If you are a fan of Captain Hook from Once Upon A Time and you love smut with an amazing story, then this is the book for you! This follows Gwyen on her journey into another world that is full of our wonderful fairy tales. But it's nothing like you would expect. It's filled with action-packed adventures that keep you on the edge of your seat. I have had very bad experiences with retellings because authors tend to change them too much. But Arielle does an amazing job integrating the fairytales into her story. I could relate to Gwyen so easily, and I LOVED Demetri. He is officially one of my favorite book boyfriends. The way he tries to be honorable and still care is amazing. And such amazing character development for Gwyen. I will definitely be buying this book for my shelf when it comes out. I don't want to spoil anything for everyone but definitely check trigger warnings. Nothing is as it seems in this captivating story. It's one of my favorite reads of the year! The only issue I personally had was some minor spelling/punctuation errors. But I see them all the time. It doesn't affect the story in the least. Again, I was given this book completely free as an ARC read, and I am willingly giving this review.
Disenchanted by Arielle Snow this is the first book I’m reading by this author. I actually believe this is the debut novel and let me tell you, it’s incredible. This book was incredible and such an enjoyable read. Consider me a fan already of this author. The world that was created was so good… the building of it was phenomenal. I was able to clearly picture everything that was written. I could feel the feelings that were described. I flew through this book, I finished it in about a day. It pays homage to some of my favorite fairy tales. The characters are on another level and is one of the many reasons I love this book. Gwen so sassy and relatable; I loved her pretty much instantly. Then don’t even get me going about Demetri…oh boy. This read definitely took my emotions on a roller coaster that’s for sure. It combines action and plot development perfectly, never once stumbling in its flow. Plus I didn’t see the ending coming at all! This book was really in a league of its own. I’m anxiously awaiting for more from this author. Two thumbs way up! I can’t begin to recommend this book enough.
I loved this book so much. It had a little bit of one upon a time vibes. And if you like Disney retellings then you'll like this. This book follows Gwen who has a seemingly crappy boyfriend that finally proposed on the night of a surprise wedding for her best friend bree. After bree leaves and after Jacob proposes Gwen is lured into a tent of a would be fortune teller when all of a sudden things start to go wrong and she's sucked into this portal and dropped into another world or realm. While at the time the fortune teller is spewing things that Gwen cannot comprehend. Something about a snow moon and how she is the one to help them all. Next thing you know Gwen gets captured and is thrown in the dungeon of a King Philip where she meets a pirate. while she thought the pirate was killed he was not and he comes back to rescue her. Then they go on this adventure across the ocean were they encounter siren mermaids that want to kill them and they're looking for cosmina the witch who brought her to this land so that she can try to get her to help her home. There's a little Cinderella in this book there's a Little Red Riding Hood there's mention of The Lost boys I don't know but it's just an wonderful love story of her and the pirate captain demetri who reminds me of Killian from once upon a time.i absolutely loved him. It's a slow burn romance tho not much spice but I didn't need it. And the ending wants me needing to next book like now. I was in a reading slump and this had me the whole way through. I even burned my cookies lol couldn't put it down.

I loved reading Disenchanted by Arielle Snow. It was an unique story with a great plot. The author did a great job on it. I loved the cover as well. This book was hard to put down and was greatly detailed. I shipped Demetri and Gwen from the start they were very cute. I loved their spicy scenes. His fate at the end was sad and I was surprised of his betrayal of her. I did find it hilarious when Gwen said he smells like Christmas trees though. Another thing I found intresting was how the mermaids don't effect Gwen and how the fairy approaches her. One character I disliked was Prince Phillip he was disgusting towards her and is unable to handle rejection. Him calling her pet was weird too. Lastly, the person who ended up being the lost princess was so unexpected and I 100% reccomend reading this book.
I’m a huge fan of all things classic fairytales and Disenchanted’s retelling of some favorites is a gut punch straight to the heart. I loved Arielle’s world she created and how she worked (or reworked) classics into a story that had me reminded of Once Upon a Time. If you fell for Killian in OUAT and love a slow burn, twisty, adventure packed story, Disenchanted is 100% for you! I had guessed a thing or two from subtle hints throughout the story but I was so hooked from the beginning I didn’t mind. I can’t wait for book two in this series! I’d actually give this 4.5 than just 4!
Wow. Absolutely wow. I judged this book solely on its cover. When Mrs Snow posted the cover on TikTok, I fell in love with it. Then she asked for arc readers and here I am.
This book, honestly, took me by surprise. I’m going to try to do a spoiler free review, while trying to make it make sense. What I thought this book was going to be about wasn’t how it started out. HOWEVER!! It quickly became something better than I imagined.
I absolutely fell in love with our FMC, Gwen and our MMC, who I won’t name here. I fell in love with all of their supporting characters. The world was beautifully described and I would like to find myself a one way portal there. I love the snippets of familiarity we get through the whole book. When you know, you’ll know. The action scenes had me reading so fast that I had to reread them. I thought I had the whole story figured out, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I’m very much glad she didn’t write it like I thought because her spin on things made this a book a shelf trophy.
If you like fairy tale romance stories, this has that vibe. I’m going to call it a “soft spice” book. That being said, I don’t believe it is suitable for younger teens due to the language in some parts. So, be mindful if your teen wants to read it.
I was given an ebook copy to give an honest review. To sum it up, this is definitely without a shadow of a doubt a 5 star read and something I will read again.
When this Arc dropped in my kindle…It came exactly on time for me to enjoy without distractions. And let me tell you this book was well written but always check your triggers warnings. ⚜️ Let me just start by saying I so excited when I found out this book is releasing soon. That a literary sorta fan girl over it . I had the pleasure to Arc read this book and I will always be honest with myself when reviewing any book. In that being said ; Omg the world - building in this book had me enchanted with every page I swiped and read⚜️The plot twist and storyline definitely made me not put it down. ⚜️ This book gave me the only “ Once Upon A Time” Captain Hooked & Swan vibes of forbidden love with the only touch of “Outlander”. A fantasy romance of fairytale retellings. Different worlds that collides magic in the air mist. I freaking love this book and yes it’s start as a slow burn but that will gradually grow in every twist and turn trust me. ⚜️ I don’t do spoilers but dam Gwen is so sassy. That’s all I will say besides this is definitely a must read I recommend.
⚜️Tropes ⚜️
⚜️ Fantasy Romance ⚜️ Star Crossed Lovers ⚜️ Fairytale Retellings ⚜️ Charming Pirate MMC ⚜️ Different Worlds ⚜️ Slow Burn ⚜️ Magic ⚜️ Secret Identity ⚜️ Sassy FMC ⚜️ Force Proximity ⚜️ Forbidden ⚜️ He Fell First And much more…
Arielle you did an amazing job and have me wanting book two already like a little girl at the candy store being impatient.
- I HATE IT WHEN YOU CAN’T GIVE BOOKS A MILLION STARS -
Pirates, Mermaids, Red Riding hoods and wolves. Fairies, royalty, witches and humans. This book has it all.
Disenchanted… has left me completely enchanted! I am utterly, completely, devastatingly in love with this book.
While reading this book I learned two things about myself… 1. I am in love with a pirate 2. Fairytale retellings are the absolute best books ever.
The love story between Demetri and Gwen has stolen my heart in so many ways. I felt the love, anticipation, heartbreak and debilitating anguish. I don’t think a couple has ever left me with such a loss when the book ended.
I laughed. I cried. I felt like I was going to die from actual heartbreak.
This book… Disenchanted… is a MASTERPIECE. It is incredibly, beautifully written. From worlds to characters were described so clearly. The characters all left such a memorable imprint in my heart. Some for the good and some for the bad, but all so very important to tell this story.
This book is a game changer. I’m just going to go out on a limb and say that I see great and wonderful things for the future.
It is going to take a miracle for this book to be topped.
When I started reading this, I immediately got Once Upon A Time vibes. It was enjoyable, and it pulled me in simply because of the similarity to a show that I love so much. A fairy-tale world is put under a curse by an evil queen, and only a person from the human world can stop it. Demetri was loveable from the start. At first, I thought he was supposed to represent Robinhood, and then he gave off more Captain Hook/Jack Sparrow vibes. I loved him even more. The FMC isn't one of those whiny girls who complains all the time. She actively joins the fight more than once, understanding that she owes the people helping her. She grows throughout the book, becoming more mature and self-aware.
I'm not going to lie, though. The base plot did seem so reminiscent of the show I mentioned above, that at first I was only planning on giving this a 3-star rating. I thought I had the plot twist figured out about halfway through the book. However, I got to the end, and the plot twist was 100%, NOT what I was expecting, which immediately earned this the 5 star rating I've decided to give it. I should have trusted the process.
Give this a read. Even if you feel the same way I did, at first. It's worth it.
3.5 🌟 rounded up. First off, thank you to Arielle for providing this as an ARC to me! If you were a fan of the show Once Upon A Time (bonus if your fave was a certain devilishly handsome pirate named Killian), you will thoroughly enjoy this book 😉 This was a charming, easy read that had me falling all over for Demetri. I'm hoping to see Gwen grow into a stronger FMC in book 2, instead of constantly doing the complete opposite as she's told. My only complaint is the plot and/or character's decisions seemed abrupt, forced, or awkward, and there were a few scenes of explanation that sort of swept things under the rug or felt too fast paced. I still think it was a great debut.
I really enjoyed this story. In fact, I loved it! It's such a fantastic new fantasy with old fairytale lore weaved throughout. The characters were easy to love and hate. The world was beautifully described. Just the right amount of tension and drama to keep the reader entertained from beginning to end. Full of magic and wicked villains in a land with familiar characters from classic childhood stories. I recommend this novel to all those who love fairy tales with a new spin.
I wanted to love the concept of the book, but the story just didn't capture me. The flow of the story was choppy to me in places, and the characters lacked depth, growth, and chemistry.
4.5/5. I loved the connection of two worlds. One that held every fairy tale we grew up with and the other of the world we know. Such a unique and fun story!
Thank you to the author and the publisher or publishers for all your hard work! I'm leaving this review voluntarily and happily!
Oh my gods! I lived this book! I haven't read a good fantasy book in some time, and this was what I needed. Everything from the emotional roller coaster to the twisted fairy tales and the details in this book. It flowed so well and I truly had a hard time putting it down to even go to sleep from wanting to know what was going to happen next and to know who the main characters were going to meet in their travels. I'm so glad that I was able to be part of the team that took part in reading this. The world was whimsical and truly well thought out. I can definitely say I can't wait to see what else is in store.
I loved the sarcasm, the banter, and overall attraction between the main characters. It kills me that Gwen is so attached to Jacobe, like really? Leave the man. He's no good for you and keeps the Pirate. He's definitely so much better and far better looking. He's willing to listen and go to the ends of the world for you! You get to meet so many characters throughout this book. I won't spoil who they are, but you'd be surprised at who they are and what their stories actually end up being. Not only is this story so much more than a story, but it's an adventure and a way to figure out who the character really is and what she really wants.
This book truly was a fantastic read, and I plan to stick with it.
I had the honor of reading this as an ARC and it is truly a magical experience! The author has taken fairytales as old as time and masterfully weaved them together giving them new life and keeping the reader on their toes.
Gwen, the main protagonist, is a perfect combination of sassy and determined making her very relatable. Demetri, the main male character, weaves together the best mix of both dark and charming making him the best book boyfriend. It was so easy to fall in love with Gwen and Demetri and root for them as they meet some of fairytale’s most beloved characters and fight for their live.
And the ending!!!! It had me gasping in surprise, eyes widening in shock, and wishing the next book was ready to be consumed.
I was so excited when I received my copy of this book! The beginning was a little slow for me, but once I got to chapter 6 I was hooked! This is one of the best debut novels that I have read. The author’s writing was done so well that I felt like I was in this fairytale land. I felt the adventures, the danger, the love, the betrayal. Now I am impatiently waiting for the second book because the ending left me on a cliffhanger.
Pirates, princesses, princes, and witches all in a separate world. This book was amazing. I loved all the banter between Gwen and Demetri and the adventure. Gwen attends her best friends wedding and meets a witch at the reception. She reads her fortune and Gwen tries to run out only to end up in a different world. She must complete the mission in order to return home. She is helped on her journey by fairytale characters and mythical creatures. The book also ends in a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book.
Omg omg omg omg. Y’all when I say this book left me speechless I mean completely without words on how to describe the absolute joy I felt while reading it!
Let me start off by saying thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to get this as an ARC, it was amazing!!
If you like the show “Once Upon a Time” then read this book because the vibes were all there!! Fairytales with a twist were absolutely amazingly executed! The tension between Gwen (the MC) and our drool worthy pirate was to die for!!! (He was totally giving Killian from once upon a time, and is definitely swoon worthy!!!). The obstacles and challenges that Gwen faced were new and exciting and definitely kept me on my toes the whole way through. The last chapter of the book had me on the end edge of my super comfy reading chair because holy cow I did not see that ending coming at all.
I already can’t wait for book 2 and definitely think this is a must read for all my fantasy romance readers!!
