Pearl's Mail Order Brides #1

The First Mountain Man's Mail Order Bride

Rate this book
Travis is a loner. The town of Bramble talks like he can't hear them. Only a few people in the town he would count as friends, and he prefers it that way. But when the town drunk begins bragging about a wife he ordered like a special malt whiskey Travis knows he has to intervene. No woman should be forced to marry a man like that. He plans to send her on her way with a word of warning about agreeing to marry a stranger but when she steps off the stagecoach his tongue turns to lead in his mouth.

Now he'll do anything to keep her.

Bonnie is on her last chance. She's always been a fighter, independent and alone in the world. An only daughter too tall to entice the local suitors she always planned to provide for herself and die an old maid. But when her employer makes unwelcome overtures, she finds herself at the mercy of a society that is all too quick to turn their backs on her. Suddenly without a job and no way to support herself she agrees to be a mail order bride. She would rather take a chance on a stranger than end up living on the street.

A prequel to the Crescent Ridge Mail Order Brides series this novella takes place in 1879's Colorado before the town of Crescent Ridge formed. This tells the tale of the town's founder and his lovely bride.

Full of romance and steamy scenes, every novella in the Crescent Ridge series features a different couple. HEA guaranteed with no cheating and can be read in a couple of hours.

4.5 out of 5

I got this for 99 cents on Amazon though it’s also available on KU. I’m not sure what the difference is between a short story and novella, but at only 64 pages, that’s what this book is. And despite the fact it was very short and I read it in an afternoon, I really enjoyed the time reading it.

Bonnie is our heroine. She signed up to move out west to be a mail order bride. But her intended is not a good guy. He’s mean, he’s lazy, he has zero respect for women and he’s a drunk. When. Travis, a trapper is in town on a rare visit and hears what is in store for Bonnie, because he’s a good guy, he decides he needs to save her. He arrives at the stagecoach to meet her. Thankfully her intended is passed put drunk and when Travis explains her options, one of them is to marry him and that’s the choice she picks.

Because this is so short we don’t get a lot of story and character development but what we do get is very good with me. Travis in particular I really like. He’s very much a loner and knows his life is about to change drastically but he’s okay with it. There is attraction on both sides and though the love scenes aren’t long, they are nice and spicy and I’m absolutely planning on reading the next mail order bride in the series. Considering the book is less than a cup of coffee, my rec is you pick it up. I don’t think you will regret it.

The First Mountain Man's Mail Order Bride is Book 1 of the Pearl's Mail Order Brides series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, age-gap, opposites-attract, mail order bride gets her mountain man historical romance. Bonnie is a 24 year old mail order bride trying to start a new life after being blackballed as a governess. Travis is hunky and reclusive mountain man with a heart of gold. When he hears Emmett, a local drunk and womanizer, bragging at the saloon that he bought a bride to be his maid, servant, and bed warmer. Travis knows he needs to warn the woman before he heads back to his mountain. He doesn't expect to fall in love at first sight but does. When she sees Emmett, she knows she can't marry him. Travis offers to take her to a hotel or marry her. She agrees as knows Travis is a good man. I loved this couple. Travis was such a kind and loving protector. I'm glad they found happiness after the drama. I can't wait to read the next one.

FYI I won this in a giveaway. This feels like a student wrote it during a creative writing course and didn’t do any of the recommended edits. It was pretty cookie cutter

In the wilds of 1879 Colorado, mountain man Travis (H34) has built a peaceful, self-reliant life far from prying eyes. But when he hears a drunken farmer bragging about the mail-order bride he plans to mistreat, Travis steps in. Determined to save the woman from a terrible fate, he offers her a different path: marry him instead. Bonnie (h24), seeking refuge from her painful past in Charleston, accepts Travis's offer. Together, they carve out a life in the rugged mountains, forging trust and finding unexpected love. And unexpected heat, with Bonnie determined to get her man clean. But when danger threatens their marriage, Bonnie has to find her courage, and Travis has to prove just how far he’ll go to protect the woman who means the world to him. Sweet and steamy mail order bride, mountain man, grumpy-sunshine romance, exploring love, connection, hope, survival, and two souls finding their forever.

Bonnie was serving as a governess for the Quincy family until the father tried to come on to Bonnie.
She slapped him and told his wife. Bonnie was let go and without a reference letter no one would hire her. With no money, no job or family she turned to being a mail order bride. She went by train, then stagecoach. When she arrived a tall man with wide shoulders met her, he was all man. They both seemed interested in each other, but he was not her intended. When he explained that her groom was a drunkard and no good that she should not marry him. Bonnie not believing Travis had to see for herself. When she saw Emmett passed out in the saloon, she knew she could not marry him, but she could sure smell him. Travis gave her the option of staying there or marrying him. They get married.
You need to read their story.

Travis and Bonnie. Hes come down from his mountain to sell his wares and then grab a drink and return home. Emmett a drunk who doesnt know the meaning of the word soap and woman chaser, tells him hes ordered a wife coming in tomorrow and then passes out on the bar. Travis cant let this happen to a good woman he must send her back. Travis sees her pain and gives her an option too good for her to pass up. She believes herself to be homely and he believes himself to repeal women. They are both wrong, at least to each other. The deed is done and they are on their way. They fall in love so tenderly and romantcally. Then they go to town. Shes taken. Hes coming for her. She escapes. He finds her. He feels like a failure. But he has his revenge. And in the end they will all weather the storm.

Instant love was not believable.

This review has spoilers so only read if you don't care. I couldn't enjoy the story, especially towards the end. It just was irritating. They barely move in together and she's naked in a tub and has no embarrassment when he walks in? Then the preacher and the sheriff are with when he goes to seek retribution after her original mail order spouse to be kidnapped her. Then on the way home from her rescue, they just stop on the road and jump each other's bones? I found the story totally unbelievable. There was no buildup no longing looks no interaction that was intriguing. I just didn't like it, but it's not the worst thing I've read.

Bonnie is about to get married to a man she doesn’t know.
Travis heard Emmet speaking disrespectfully about his wife-to-be and he finds himself waiting for her at the stagecoach stop. He can’t allow this beautiful woman to marry such an awful man.
This was a lovely story. Travis’ heart is as big as him and Bonnie is sweet and assertive.

Pearl's Mail Order Brides-Travis & Bonnie

This Sweet, Short, Mail Order Bride story is one of my Favorites. Travis is reclusive, but when he meets Bonnie getting off the stage, he steps in and helps her not make a very foolish decision. Travis came to town for supplies, he left with his new wife.

Thank you to the author and StoryGraph for a copy.
After Travis saved Bonnie from marrying local drunk by marrying her, their relationship blossoms in love.  Will she survive kidnapping? Will Travis be able to save her before it's too late?
This is a quick, fun read with some spice. I liked the writing style and character/story development. I'll definitely check out the other stories.

Quick Historical Love Story

Emmitt’s snoozing ended up in him losing Bonnie to Travis. To Travis it was love at first sight and Bonnie was in fact very attracted to Travis. Emmitt got what he deserved when he tried to take/kidnap Bonnie from Travis.

Super sweet. Didn’t even read the epilogue. I’m in a bad mood - so I don’t think rating this would be fair.
