Javier Martinez tries to please everyone around him, but never himself. As a Navy Chief, he’s seen a lot, overseas and at home. But, nothing could prepare him for what he found the night of his birthday.

Jazmine O’Neal was a vibrant woman, living her life to the fullest. While away on business she enjoys an evening out, but on her way back to her hotel, she walks into the worst nightmare of her life. Her cries for help are unheard until an unknown, tall, handsome Hispanic man steps in.

He saved her in more ways than she could ever comprehend. But he never imagined finding the woman of his dreams, or considered how he would find her. Can Javier and Jazmine—both of them hurt and damaged—learn to depend on each other? Fighting through pain and anger, they seek unconditional love.

Blindsided by life, can they let go enough to let love overcome their pain?

It's only the second full week of 2014 and I've managed to find the book that is (for me at least) setting the bar for all of the other romance novels that I plan to read this year. Love Through Pain is a story of pain, the strength to survive, acceptance, trials, and last but not least - love. Readers should be warned, this is a story about a rape, which takes place at the beginning of the book. While it isn't drawn out, we do see glimpses of the rape through the victim's eyes. To say this had a strong impact on me as a reader is an understatement. I felt brutalized along with her and yes dear reader, it put tears in my eyes as well. But the depiction of the rape wasn't just for shock value nor was it gratuitous. It was necessary to the plot and the rape story itself set the events of the story into motion.

The character's are Jazmine and Javier (Javy). Jazmine O'Neal is the heroine of the story and the rape victim. She is found by Naval officer Javier Martinez who takes her to get the help that she needs. Although she's just been victimized, his kindness and strength reaches her on some level and she feels safe in his presence. Javier is our hero, and a hero he is! Here is a man that any woman could love. He's a protector, a lover and when needed a fighter. He doesn't back down from what he wants or what he thinks is right. He loves his family and develops a love for Jazmine that fairly leaps off the page.

I'm typically long-winded in my reviews, but I'm not going to do that with Love Through Pain. What I'll tell you is this - Love Through Pain is a love story in which two people who have been devastated by separate events in their lives meet and fall in love. No magic insta-love. No wondering how, when or why they love each other. There are no drawn out "Just tell him/her already!" moments or manufactured conflicts that make no sense and insult you as a reader. The characters don't make ridiculous decisions that make you want to slap them through the pages of your e-reader. That said, the characters aren't perfect, but when some mistakes and bad decisions are made you understand and sympathize.

This book was a journey that left me satisfied when it was finished. In turns it made me cry, it made me laugh, and it made me angry. What it didn't do was bore me. The writing was solid and the characters just came off the page and became real for me. These were everyday people and I grew to love them. But don't take my word for it. I encourage you to read this book. I give Love Through Pain five enthusiastic stars!

To say that I was thoroughly impressed with this book would be a total understatement. I was absolutely amazed with how well written this book was. In my mind, I kept thinking that this couldn't possibly be written by the same author, whose (earlier) books, totally turned me off. I tried to be nice about it, but I hated her first book! But now... I am so amazed at what I had a chance to read.

I started reading this book on last night, got to 9% and then went to sleep. I am so glad that I did stop, because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have hardly gotten any sleep at all!

Thankfully, I didn't restart until about 2pm on this afternoon... At 5:40pm, I was able to finish this deliciously well-written book with a smile on my face.

Not only was this book intensely captivating, but the characters were memorably realistic until it was just absolutely nuts!

Although it had a minimal amount of flaws, Ancelli totally outdid herself.

I am so thankful that one of my fellow "Fans of Interracial Romance" group members was willing to loan this amazing book to me, because if she hadn't, I probably would have never taken a chance on this novel. I'm glad that I gave Ancelli's books a second chance....

Giving this one 5 stars.

I think there were some good ideas in this book that were rather clumsily executed. A potentially good story was rather undermined by some issues of plot convenience that somewhat cannibalized the story for me, imo.

The book starts off with a very promising premise. The heroine, Jazmine has been horrifically assaulted and left bleeding in an alley. The hero Javier, stumbles upon her and gets her to help.

I am going to put a lot of the rest of this review under spoiler because there are some revealing plot details that I want to mention in my review:

Outside of those things, the second part of the book really squandered the promising set up. It became a series of sex scenes and coincidental revelations that strained credulity. It felt like a lot of Deus Ex Machina happening all over the place.

And some characters, Javier's ex-girlfriend in particular, were drawn so broadly that they were cartoonish.

So while I kinda liked some of the emotional tugs the book elicited, overall it did not work that well for me.

This was, for me, a fairly decent read. Some editing snafu's that really should have been picked up during even a casual read through, but none that truly took away from the story.

Three stars and no more simply for the fact that at times I felt some serious topics were taken a little too lightly or kind of half assed. Jazmine's relationship with her family for instance and how she chose to tell them (or NOT tell them) things was just way ridiculous. Ultimately, I'm done with the book and I still don't think she told them about the most pivotal event in her life lol. Maybe I missed it, hell I don't know. Javier as well in terms of some pretty freakin big life events that he kept to himself claiming that "their opinion doesn't matter to me". Ummm, ok. Then all the more reason to tell them and let the chips fall where they may.

The sex scenes were ok, but a little repetitive and even for me, way more frequent than necessary. Seems like the latter half of the book they were going at it every few pages. Overkill. Tell me the story of the relationship, not the story of their sex life. I get it-they're hot for each other. Message received. Now can you let me in on one of those counseling sessions they talked about? How about a heartfelt conversation with her mom about their relationship and Jazmine's rape??? All missing. So ya, just a fairly good read. Too many loopholes and missing moments for more kudos than that. I know a lot of ladies LOVE THIS BOOK. I don't. lol I've promised myself that I'm not going to fall for the trap of praising an IR just because its fantastic when compared to other contributions to the genre. Considering the competition? Ya, this book deserves a Pulitzer. LOL But against the other great reads I've enjoyed over the last 20 or so years? It doesn't hold up. I gotta judge it against everything, not just IR so no extra points for being good for an IR read.

OMG...Ancelli really outdid herself this time. I absolutely loved this book. Javier is one of the greatest heroes that I have encountered. He is so multifaceted. The author shows his vulnerability when it comes to how he was injured while deployed. She shows his strength and gentleness with Jazmine. She shows his absolute HOTNESS in the bedroom. I also loved Jazmine. She was so REAL. Her rawness and vulnerability after the assault was heartfelt. And, her recovery was inspiring. I loved the way that Javier and Jazmine healed each other and started as a true friendship. I think I fell in love with Javier from the beginning - when he stayed up all night with Jazmine in his old room. Definite 5 Stars!!! ;-)

The story is about Jazmine and Javier. This is about love birthed out of adversity and what the power of love can overcome. The story is a page turner and will draw you in from the first few pages. There is mystery, drama, action and emotions galore. Javier is a man of honour who will protect his woman at any cost. I did want to kick his ass when he had a few moments of doubt about our girl Jazz towards the end. After all they had been through together (and her in particular) I could not believe he could have any such doubts. However, all that proves is that he is human. Their love overcomes all! An excellent read! I enjoyed the story!

Amazing

This was an amazing and emotional story. It centers on Jasmine and Javier. After meeting each through an excruciating experience, Jasmine and Javier develop a bond neither one could have imagined. This story shows how with the right support you can overcome any traumatic event. It also shows how everything happens for a reason, no matter how good or bad. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Highly recommend this book.

2nd & 3rd Time Still Good

I have read this so many times over and over it’s not funny. This is just a good story. I ugly cried like a baby the first time I read it, now I just get real emotional and I can control my crying. But it still gets to me, I love 💕 reading it over and over. Go ahead and get it make yourself a hot bubble bath with absorbing jr, peppermint soap, and Epson salt and flavor. The absorbing jr it’s easy to get that cap off then pour a cap full under the water and the rest make sure the door is closed. This is also perfect for asthma or anyone with breathing problems, it will strengthen your lungs. Have a great read 🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾

Loved it!

This was so well written. You were able to get to know the characters as well as understand their backgrounds and reasoning behind their decisions. Who wouldn't fall in love with Javier, what a man. I truly loved Jazzmine as well. I loved the fact that neither of them played games with each other. They have become one of my favorite book couples.

All Night Long

This book had me up til the wee hours before work! I just couldn’t rest until I read til the end. I sighed wistfully upon completion because this novel was a whole meal! Drama, chemistry, drama, more chemistry, more drama. So many tangled threads; Ancelli is adept with the wow storylines. Love me some Javier!

Sweet Story

This was such a sweet story. I always cringe when I hear of rape but this book. The way how Javier took care of her and decided to take care of a child that he knew she may possibly hate. The book was well written I loved all the twists and turns.

Love Conquers All!

This was the best love story I have read in a while. It had pain ful situations, but true love conquered all. Javier and Jasmine were a couple well suited for each other and the sex scenes between them were "hot".

Can you find love in the middle of tragedy? Can love born out of tragedy survive and last? Love Through Pain is an interracial romance novel that centers around love being formed during difficult circumstances. I am very pleased with this book. I gave major points for overall originality, since I had never read a romance with this kind of premise. I thought the relationship between Jazmine and Javier was very well developed. This couple had so many ups and downs going through life with it's major let downs and disappointments. I thought that the characters and getting introduced to their families was a highlight and I honestly fell in love with Javier's sense of compassion and responsibility throughout the book. I can't wait to read more by Ancelli and get lost in another romance story.

My first book by Ancelli and I loved it! From the start, Javier was such an admirable man. Although he and Jazmin were total strangers, he stepped up when no one else would, to help her and stayed by her side after she went through one of the worst circumstances imaginable. His immediate instinct to protect her and care for her made me fall in love with him.

After Jazmin returns to her old life, she's not the same person and she feels alone and broken. The only person she feels she can run to, is Javier and so she does. Javier never forgot her even after they lost touch and after seeing her after so many months, he sees something that he wants, but she's got some extra baggage - a baby on board.

Now this is where Javier earned his book boyfriend stripes. He didn't bat an eye. He took Jaz to appointments, provided for her and even volunteered to adopt the baby she was going to give up. At that point I was reading this book with a goofy ass smile on my face. Jazmin couldn't believe her luck and felt solidified in her decision making until she started to fall in love with Javier. Her plans of giving her baby up and leaving both of them behind started to fizzle out.

Jaz had to compete with Javier's lying, manipulative ex- girlfriend, Javier's racist father and her own overbearing mother, all while keeping a horrible secret that only she and Javier knew about. Javy had his own problems as well. He suffered from PTSD after his tour of duty in Afghanistan and Jaz was the only person he talked to about what happened. Even though she had her own issues, she set him straight and let him know that he needed to rely on her and others for help. Javy put up a strong front for everyone else, but Jaz was the only person that knew the real him.

Javier helped to heal Jaz and he made her feel safe and cherished. Jaz gave Javier acceptance, unconditional love and the family that he always wanted. This book was emotionally jam packed and I really enjoyed every minute of it. I will definitely read more books by this author.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I liked the way that Javier and Jasmine got together. We could see an actual relationship forming, and that was a pleasant change. I thought the topic of Jasmine's assault was handled well, and I loved the way that Javier was mindful of that the first time they made love. He didn't pity her, but their first time together he wanted to reassure her that she was in control, and that was really sweet. Then, they were having sex almost every other page, and it just got old for me. That said, I liked the way Ancelli incorporated Javier's PTSD and Jasmine's being in therapy into the story. To me, that was especially important; it showed that Jasmine was working on dealing with being assaulted, and that it wasn't going to happen overnight. Some things were to neat and tidy for me- Malcom and Shirley getting together, but no resolution over Malcom and Eva. Kevin and Frankie being the ones that assaulted Jasmine. Frankie showing up at the BBQ, and then the same cops being the ones to show up and arrest him. That was just a bit much for me. Like I said, I enjoyed this story overall, and in the opinion of someone whose never been assaulted, think that Ancelli handled the sensitive subject of rape well.

Holy Cannoli this book was awesome sauce! I wasn't expecting this book to be this freaking great.

I knew it was going to be good when in the first 10 pages I was crying and already in love with Javier. I got to page 3 of the sample and just hit the buy button because it knocked me on my ass in the first few pages.

Javy just got added to my book boyfriend list ( Giggles) he is amazing, I mean seriously he is like everything... now he isn't perfect but he comes really really close.

Jazmine... This lady deserved every little piece of happiness that could come her way. I was rooting for her so hard.

Monica, yep was wishing there was a cliff so I could push her off of it, there is always one character that you want to kick in the ass... she is that one for me.

This book was soo freaking great but the subject matter is heavy. I would recommend to my friends without question.

My Javy would have been David Gandy and my Jazmine would have Jurnee Smollett ( I know that the book Jazz was a Darker but I couldn't gets Jurnee's face out of my head for Jazz)

This book is my favorite by this author. Two people who find true love through a tragic situation that possibly has family members involved.

Javier and Jazmine didn't expect love to come from such tragic circumstance but when it's real, it's real. Javier really steps up by takes care of Jazmine (a total stranger who was attacked and badly beaten).

Jazmine returns home after her hospital stay only to return four months later and make a life changing decision. Again Javier steps up and takes on a responsibilty that is not his in an effort to allow Jazmine to heal and move on with her life. Ultimately they end up in Jazmine hometown and through knowing some of the same people end up together. They eventually find healing and love with each other. Javier is all about everything Jazmine and will protect and defend her against all, even family members (hers and his own). A great read.

Love through pain was a very nice story. It's a story of overcoming one of life's most horrible experiences while also learning to love and forgive. I found myself smiling at different points in the book because of the characters dialogue---it was so sweet. Except for some typos and the overuse of the word "and" where the author could've shortened the sentence, I enjoyed it. There were certain times where I felt the story dragged along. That little bit at the end with the parents ( I won't spoil it for others) kind of made me cringe. It seemed to just be thrown in for the sake of shock. Overall I would recommend this book to others. Jazmine and Javier will be one of those couples I remember for awhile.

An Amazing, Intriguing, and Captivating Read...

Javier and Jazmine's story really pulls at the heart and soul, and it's a story that I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end. I hate that it took me so long to finally sit down and read "Love Through Pain", To say that I was engrossed in this book would be an understatement, ten fold... The character chemistry is on point and oozes from the pages from beginning to end. I do not do spoilers, but I will admit that my heart dropped when reading the scene where Jazmine is first introduced to Jose, Javier's brother. Ancelli once again writes her ass off in this storyline, it would be an injustice if she does not write a sequel to "Love Through Pain", hint, hint Ancelli.

Love is a healer

This book was all the feels. To go through this journey with Javy and Jazz was emotional. I agree that there can be a silver lining even though chaos. The circumstances in which they met wasn't the best. However, Javy and Jazz were able to find and build something greater through finding each other. They both had issues to deal with, but they found how love is a healer. This is my first book by this author. I look forward to reading more of her work. I highly recommend this book because it is a great reminder how people can be brought together under unusual circumstances and how love can find you when you least expect. It is also a good book on survival and strength.
