ugh... Why did Iread this whole series? The world building was terrible. I have no clue how and why there is an evil faction of angels because this whole angel thing was not adequately explained. In fact I kept forgetting that this WAS about angels. and for the love of god why oh why is there so much fog and so much fog expelling from peoples mouths? I also just started skimming over the, oh I love him he's so wonderful parts or she is so amazing. I honestly think this was the worst love triangle. It was borderline pathetic hearing each character profess there love over and over. I think if you took all of that out of all 3 books you might have 50 pages of true story. Just bad... Don't read it.
This was good. I liked it. I read it in less than 24 hours, very much the same of what I've come to expect from Addison Moore. But seriously, I'm totally over the stupid love triangle. And I'm tired of authors writing them like some idiotic teen romance novel formula, especially the way Addison Moore has written these love triangles into the Ephemeral series & the Celestra series. It's so irritating to see Skyla & Laken telling one guy one minute that she'll love him forever & they're meant to be together, then literally the second guy shows up & she just walks off & is telling the new guy THE EXACT SAME THING. I get realistically that a girl might be torn between two guys, but a normal girl does not pledge her love forever to two guys at the same time. If she does she's mental. So, I'm hoping that in the new series Celestra Ever After that she makes them at least a little more reasonable. I do love this crazy world she's created just these things get on my nerves.
I'll be reviewing the trilogy as a whole here for the sole reason that I'm just to lazy to go back and review each book individually so be warned there will probably be spoilers for the first to books,Ephemeral and Evanescent.
So I like the premise of the story. The whole idea that Laken woke up in a 'new world' and people who were supposed to be dead were alive again was fascinating. In fact, I was really pulled in by the whole concept to the point that after reading the sample I had to get the first book to figure out what was going on.
I wasn't disappointed persay, so much as I was overwhelmed with everything going on. Imagine taking a painting (or maybe a sketch in honor of Wesley) of a lovely countryside setting. Then you add an extra tree here and a barn over there, maybe a lake in the middle. Before you know it the picture looks like something from one of those I spy books. That's exactly what happened with the plot of the Countenance Trilogy. Moore starts with something interesting: the possibility of a resurrection, and before you know it we've got four different factions of angels, a love triangle, zombies, ghosts, time travel, telepathy... Need I continue?
I realized after reading this series that the Ethereal series seems to be intended to be read first even though it chronologically takes place later (though with all that time Travelling who can keep track?). So there were many, many loose ends that were never tied up at the end of the series. I'm assuming these would be resolved in the Ethereal series but I don't care to read it.
My two favorite character by far were Flynn and Mary. Flynn was quite likable with his lecherous ways and kid was ten kinds of cute. Also her brother wasn't half bad either. As far as female YA characters go, Laken didn't bother me as much as most. She's not making it on my list of top faves but I never wanted to slap her silly so that's saying something I guess. There were a few times I wanted to shake her for bemoaning the whole love triangle thing but I'm beginning to think that's a prerequisite for YA novels these days (another reason why I've begun to avoid them, but this one has a pretty cover and I'm a cover-hoe).
Overall a 2.5 rating. Characters a but lackluster but fairly likable. Plot intriguing but overly complicated. Price on amazon is $2.99 for the first book so its worth a go. I wouldn't reread the series but I would recommend it.
An unsettling, dystopian romance. The love triangle, Laken, Cooper, and Wesley, continues through this title. The battle of right versus wrong is tantamount to the struggle Laken faces as she must decide between the young men.
This is not a stand-alone story. It relies heavily upon knowledge from the previous two titles. The end is good, but it's obvious it's not really the end.
My goodness these first three books tell quite a story. Laken, our heroine loves two boys. Will it be Wes or Conner? Follow this trio through school days and nights. Classmates, anger, jealousy, magic, monsters, forgotten memories and a family tree with all kinds of twist and turns. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the author’s imagination. I look forward to reading more.
What a great ending. So book 1 didn't thrill me but I finally picked up book 2 and read it in a day, then of course couldn't stop so I started in on book 3 and finished that in a day. I literally could not put the books down. I was so enraptured by the story and wondering where this was going to go and what was going to happen next that is all I did was sit and read. Watching the events unfold, learning all the hidden secrets, having to choose between the boys...this book was full of so much it was exciting to read. It kept me on my toes and wanting more, I didn't want this to end. As much as she ended up with who I wanted, my heart still broke for the other boy. Oh but the ending, was a fantastic ending. It really wrapped up the trilogy very well. Yes there are unanswered questions but that is because the overall ark of the books continues in another series called Celesta. We meet the characters from Celesta in this series and we get more of the "War" in that series. Plus there is more Wes, Cooper & Laken in Celesta Forever series. I will more than likely venture into those series someday but not right away. They are big series. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
The pain of loss, the joys of victories. You get that and so many more emotions all at the end of this series. I cannot wait to see what happens next for all of them!
3.49 Stars **Warning - this may contain spoilers. I will hide direct spoilers if I use any, but less indirect ones may still be visible**
In spite of the fact that I think this is the best book of the trilogy, and in spite of the fact that I really did enjoy this book (and this series) it still gets the same mediocre score the other two did. In general, I'm pretty happy with how things ended up; who Laken did end up with and how things went down. I'm a sucker for a happy ending where everyone gets to be happy (well, almost everyone... everyone I like, anyway).
But I STILL don't understand this whole Counts nonsense. Maybe it's because I read this series before the Celestra series - I am doing a free trial of Kindle Unlimited and this entire series just happened to be available, so I dove in without researching whether there was something else I should read first. I've started reading the Celestra series in hopes that it will clear things up for me, but I'm still really confused. It looks like a lot of the people in Ephemeral are there by choice; so why were some of them pulled from their lives, "killed," replaced with , and made ignorant of their past lives? If you are recruiting people to be part of this whole big bad powerful organization, where they will get cool super powers, lots of money and get to be angels, then why wouldn't you just ask them? Chances are, very very very few are going to turn you down. Honestly, I think that if they had recruited Laken in this way, things may have turned out very differently for them. So, I don't get why all of the subterfuge, fake memories, holding families hostage, etc.
And Wesley... Wesley, Wesley, Wesley. Thanks, Moore, for making sure that
In the end, Coop remains my favorite character, so
I started the Celestra series last night, but so far, I already like it a lot less than this series, so I don't expect things to get any better. *sigh*
I truly love Addison Moore's stories. She is a true master at being able to juggle multiple underlying plots and character storylines to create an intriguing world of Celstra, Counts, Fems, and more. Her real gift is weaving the complicated love triangle story and she does not fail to deliver in this Trilogy. Laken finds herself having to choose between her first love, Wes who holds a special place in her heart and always will, and the handsome kind hearted Cooper who has swooped in to not only save her from Spectators but steel her heart as well. Honestly I couldn't put it down, I was a bit of a sucker for the underdog in this love triangle and I think his full story is yet to be told. Even though this is the end of this Trilogy there is a lot left unsaid and I can't wait to get my hands on Celestra Forever After Series.
I am really beginning to think Wes should just die because he's ALWAYS there. He's like Laken's shadow. But, I really wish Laken would FINALLY CHOOSE!!!!!!!! This love triangle thingie is really making me all kinds of confused. Thankfully, at the end, Laken does choose and she chooses correctly. *sigh of relief* Everything comes together in the end and happily ever after, and hopefully stays that way. I also think this is hard to believe that this book takes place in high school it has more of a college feel to it to me. Great book though and will read the Celestra series because of curiosity.
Addison Moore has fast become one of my favourite authors....
This book along with the others in the series was a great read, I love taking them on holiday with me and chilling out by the pool with my Nephilim friends.
I was over the moon with the direction Laken followed her heart and cannot wait for the twists and turns to come as the main trio Laken, Coop & Wes delve into Paragon to merge in a series with Skyla & co.
I'd definitely recommend this series to read to anyone and everyone :-)
So I love this series from beggining to end, it was amazing, the whole story. I fell in love with Cooper, I want him in my life, I was so happy when Laken made her decision, FINALLY. There were some parts really annoying when she was with Wes and Cooper at the same time and she love them both, it was stressing, but I was happy when she choose Cooper. It was a really good trilogy but this book in particular for me was not the best, I was mad with Laken so it took me some time to read it.

The last book in a series always seems to take me the longest. I never want the story to end. There were many unexpected twists in this book. Really unexpected. Loved the way it ended. And am so excited to read the next series where sll if my favorite people will be. Love the emotional roller coaster ride in every story Addison writes.
This book ties up all the loose ends from the other 2 books into a nice pretty bow. The only thing that annoys me is the same thing that annoys me in a lot of Addison Moore's books, she can get a little repetitive with the thoughts that run through the main character's mind. We get it, Laken loves them both! :P
The Celestra and Countenance series will forever be among my list of favorites. In the Celestra series I was torn between Logan and Gage whereas I was 100% Team Cooper in this series. The constant back and forth with the love triangle got a little tiring for me in this one, otherwise no complaints from this girl. I can't wait for Celestra Forever!
very good. I love the Laken character more then skyla. Laken is brave and bold and knows what she wants. She don't take any carp from the power bitches. When I think I know what's going to happen Addison throws a curve ball in there and changes it all around.
Awesome finale to a great series! Loved, loved, loved, this book! I'm not going to give any spoilers, because I hate it when someone does that.....however, Loved the way it started and loved the way it ended. Great job!
Loved this book and the series. Can't wait for the next one. Could see the tie in from afar a nd was thrilled with how the author did it. A major battle on many fronts is coming. Looking forward to the release in 2014.
Addison Moore's descriptions never cease to amaze me. I love the way her writing brings the environment around the characters to life with emotion and tangible feels. I'm a Cooper fan, have been since day one. So I am happy with finding out the conclusion to the triangle.

This wraps up a lot of loose endings. the writer could end the story here but I hope she has more to come. the stories are now caught up to each other so can't wait to see what happens next.
No spoilers, but woohoo! This has become my favorite series from Addison Moore. I loved it and can't wait for Celestra Ever After! I miss Paragon and all of the incredibly sexy guys that surround it!
I could just scream with joy because of who Laken chose at the end. I loved this trilogy almost as much as Skyla's. Might it be possible to have an adult continuation with Laken's story some time in the future? I know she will appear in your new series and I cannot wait!!!
Ugh, I hate Laken! What a disgusting human being. Such a liar & cheater. Sorry, not a fan of love triangle with a whore as a heroine. I felt bad for Wes & Cooper. Overall, this could have been better without Laken's character
I had to read this in one sitting, I needed to know what going on with Laken, Cooper, and Wes! Who would come out on top? Would they free their loved ones? Would Laken ever get the whole truth! All those questions are answered in Entropy. Thank you, Addison Moore for a fantastic adventure!
