Twenty year old Lane Montgomery never imagined her usually boring summer in the boonies would require her to trade her toe shoes for hunting boots or her monotonous college textbooks for treasure map deciphering. Never would she have imagined after breaking her grandmother’s precious Native American painting, danger, a lost treasure of Cherokee Gold and a hostage situation would arise. Nor could she predict that the one man destined to protect her and her family was her childhood nemesis and former crush, Maddox Diaz.
Returning after three years in the Army, twenty-three year old Maddox Diaz is confronted with more than he bargained for when agreeing to help his childhood buddy and deepest regret, Lane. Suddenly he is thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with armed and ruthless treasure seekers that results in car chases and gun battles all in the presence of the one girl who still manages to haunt his dreams and drive him wild with desire.
Lane is determined to deny the sizzling chemistry with the man who stole her virginity and broke her heart. She just wants to stay alive with her heart intact. Will she be able to resist the man whose body sets fire to all her senses?

This story was so different from any of Katie Ashley’s others- but I really enjoyed it! It was sweet, sexy, and packed full of action and adventure!
Lane and Maddox have history. Three years ago, Lane had one of the best nights of her life- then everything changed. Maddox broke her heart. Lane has spent the last three years dancing, and starting college. Maddox has spent the last three years in the Army. Now they are both back for the summer. Back at Maudie’s, working and forced to spend time together. A crazy event puts them on the run, together. They are searching for treasure. This is a life or death situation.
Maddox and Lane both know they need to decode the map and find the treasure- they are on a time constraint. They have to help each other, keep each other safe and spend a lot of time together doing it. Maddox has regretted what went down with Lane for the last three years. We find out that he did what he did because he really did care for Lane. He knew she deserved better than him, so he pushed her away. But he’s always loved her- always wanted her.
As much as Lane hates to admit it, there has never really been anyone else for her but Maddox. The more time these two spend together, the more things heat up. They realize how much they need each other. They rekindle their old feelings and get that connection they’ve always had back.
Maddox was protective of Lane, strong, sexy, a little cocky, bossy and sweet. Lane was feisty and fun. The connection and chemistry they shared was pretty amazing. I loved the back and forth banter between these two! When it’s all said and done- will they be able to get the treasure in time and rekindle their love? Or will it be too late... Full of action, romance, suspense and humor- a great read! I give it a solid 4 stars!
5 stars! I love every Katie Ashley book I've read, and she has done it again. I read this book in one sitting, because I couldn't put it down. This is a steamy Action & Adventure with twists and turns, and of course, romance. I highly recommend!
With only the dim beam of the flashlight illuminating the inky darkness, I could barely see what was straight in front of me, let alone what was farther around the bend. The jagged, rocky walls of the cave closed in around us. The air started getting cooler and damper, but salty beads of sweat still stung my eyes, blurring my vision. Our feet sloshed through the dingy puddles as I tried calming my erratic heartbeat that thundered like a canon blast in my ears. We whirled around the corner and were immediately blinded by sunlight and an earsplitting roar.
I squealed in fear as my shoes skidded to a stop just before the cave’s crumbling edge. Maddox grabbed my arm, jerking us both back before we could go over. Peering over the mossy-covered ledge, I gulped down the rising bile in my throat. The mere sight of the enormous drop to where the rapids from the falls churned into harsh rapids made my stomach clench and my entire body shudder in fear. “Oh God,” I muttered.
With a firm grip, Maddox grabbed me by the shoulders and turned me to him. “Okay, we don’t have much of a choice here, Lane. We’ve gotta jump!” he called over the pounding water.
My eyes widened. “Are you insane?”
“And just what else would you suggest?”
As I surveyed his desperate expression coupled with the harrowing situation we faced, I fought the urge to throw my head back and laugh maniacally. If you had told me forty-eight hours ago, that I, Lane Montgomery—college student, part-time ballerina, sheltered and spoiled only child—would be running for my life from deranged treasure seekers with the very guy who broke my heart and stole my virginity, I would have laughed in your face.
Maddox reached out for my hand. “You have to trust me!”
I fought the urge to say, Like you haven’t claimed that one before! At the sound of footsteps, I realized I didn’t have any more time to debate my options. I turned back to see the menacing shadow bobbing closer. Its voice echoed through the cave toward us. “All right, I’m through playing fucking games! Give it to me, or I start shooting!”
“Lane, come on!” Maddox shouted.
With my chest heaving, my trembling hand flung out for his. Grasping blindly at thin air, I finally felt Maddox’s fingers close over mine. Once my hand was clasped firmly in his, I closed my eyes and tried to ready myself to take the plunge—in more ways than one.
I’m already a fan of this author so I’m probably biased reviewing this book, but I found it a really enjoyable reading. This was a very good reading.
This is the story of Lane and Maddox, they know each other since kids since Maddox is a foster son of Lane’s “aunt” and they used to spend summers together. Lane always had a thing for Maddox, and in the night before him goes to army they get together and everything changes. They don’t see the other for the next three years, when they meet in Lane’s aunt house and she has a thing for antiques. In one of them they found an old map and in that moment starts a treasure hunt that will change their lives.
Half of the time I felt I was in the middle of an Indiana Jones movie, the other half was a really sweet romance (and sexy, don’t you worry!). The supportive characters were very good and the main ones also: although they pissed me off in one time or another. It was definitely a very good reading and believe me when I tell you: The sexiest treasure hunt I’ve ever read!
And a Goonie-ish search for buried treasure complete with a map and a bad guy that wants it all for himself.
Maddox Diaz shipped off to join the Army after leaving the arms of a girl that would always be too good for him. A son that was abandoned and raised by a foster mother - a man that was injured and lost his chance at making something of himself in the Army - he is returning home after three years.
Lane Montgomery is nearly twenty and is heading back to a small town for the summer, a place where she met him. But after three years since she last laid eyes on Maddox; she isn't sure she can forgive him for walking away from her after losing her virginity to him the night before he was leaving for Basic Training.
The boy that teased her as a child and became her first love in her teens. He was her first love and she wanted him to want her to wait for him to return, but that night he broke her heart. But there was far more to the story than what Lane ever expected.
But when a map is discovered and a stranger comes into town dead set on getting his hands on it; the circumstances leave Lane and Maddox on the run - trying to decipher what the unknown Cherokee words on the map will lead them to. As they find their way seeking out clues from what they thought was just a distorted legend; they discover the clues to locate the treasure hidden away after a love affair ended tragically.
Just when they think they have stayed one step ahead of the goons after them - everything changes and their search for the treasure just isn't about finding the gold any longer. Lives are at stake and with both of them in danger old feelings linger close to the surface and Maddox knows it is the right time to explain to her what really happened that night. After all, they might just not make it out of this crazy situation.
Another beautifully written love story from Katie Ashley that gave you a much different feel than some of her other popular books. I have adored everything that she has written and this book is no exception to that. Even with the chase underway you never forget that this is a romance with that great feel-good feeling that keeps a grin on your face the entire time you are reading it.
Search Me is something totally different from what I have read in the past by Katie Ashley.
Search Me definitely has more adventure and suspense than any other of her other books (that I have read) and that was what kept me interested in the book. However, I wish there was more depth to the characters and the overall plot. There were a few things that were hard for to me grasp because they seemed so far fetched from the truth but it didn’t turn me away completely.
We follow Lane, who is a spoiled “princess” and spends summers in the mountains of Georgia where she first met Maddox when they were kids. Fast track a few years forward and they are thrown back together again working together. Lane still harbors feeling towards Maddox, who took her virginity at 16, feelings of both hatred and still love. As the two try to be congenial, Maddox’s foster mom comes upon a Native American treasure hidden in a picture she purchased at an auction. Unbeknown to them, there are men after this treasure who will stop at nothing to get it. Lane and Maddox become involved in a suspenseful cat and mouse chase and try to come out alive and with the treasure. Along they way, they try to figure out where they stand with one another.
I love the plot and the suspense that was built was up for it, but felt it just didn’t deliver enough of a punch for me. There wasn’t a whole lot of character development and alot of the events sort of fell flat for me. I found myself a few times having to set the book down and coming back to it later because I just wasn’t as drawn into as I was hoping. The book was definitely fast-paced and kept moving, which is good. However, I felt that certain parts could have been more in-depth and been a bit more suspenseful.
Overall, the book is a good read. If you are looking for something that has some adventure with a small bit of romance, this would be the book for it. It’s a a nice quick, summer read.
I love Katie Ashley. She was one of the first reads after being dragged in by Fifty Shades of Grey. The proposal was such a great read. So when I saw this was out, 1 clicked it and bam knocked that shit out in 1 sitting.
I want to address the cover of this book first. HOT DAMN. That boy is one fine piece of ass
I mean come one, how can you not want this to wake up to in the morning.
MMMM, Meet Maddox.
Meet Laney
He's older, shes younger, they are best friends, can they be more?
He's back from the army, she's back from ballet school for the summer. Their paths cross. She's angry, he's complicated. they of course DONT COMMUNICATE. but its not all angst.
Bam, treasure map found. Bam treasure hunt. Bam bad guy with an attitude and a gun.
Shit gets real on their quest for the gold. Tons of twists and turns. Its like watching a movie. I love it.
especially picturing him during the whole thing fuck me hes delicious
I did not like this book. The characters said corny stuff, made bad decisions that really made zero sense. I could not connect with any of them. I like Katie Ashley's other books, this one took everything I had to finish it.
Search Me is an adventure you don't want to miss: a couple with a history, some mean-looking goons, a treasure hunt and some heart racing chase.
I adore these two characters - Lane and Maddox grew up together. He constantly tease her when they were kids. Then all changed when they reached their teens, no longer being a pain in the ass - Maddox paid attention to her. She fell in love with him at 16.
Lane thought he felt the same way, after all they spent a whole lot of time together, and he seem to enjoy her presence. Then something happened that night before Maddox entered the army: he took her virginity under the stars. What Lane didn't expect was that after their 'romantic interlude', Maddox will ran away from her, and broke her heart in the process. OUCH!
Despite of their past issues, they were once again thrown together for an adventure of a lifetime. If only their lives and the lives of their love ones weren't at risk. They haven't seen each other since Maddox came home from the army. Lane is set on not being affected with the old chemistry between them. She just need to get out from all the trouble and the running, alive. Maddox is set on protecting her, no matter what the cost. He was an ass back then, he has his reasons (but how I wish, he didn't leave her vulnerable under the stars - it was very ungentlemanly). Reasons Lane doesn't want to hear from him. No matter what happened in the past, the chemistry is still there. One touch and sparks flew! Now, if only Lane can get over the past and Maddox can admit his feelings before the mean-looking goons get to them.
Running for their lives is a weird way for them to get back together again - perhaps its the abundance of adrenaline in their system, but Ms. Ashley had arranged the whole scheme perfectly that these is given another chance at love.
Katie Ashley has given me an adventure while lying down on my bed- it was a short read (at least for me), I didn't have the heart to put it down. So, if you want to fall in love, read some heart-thumping action-pack adventure: YOU NEED TO PICK UP or ONE-CLICK SEARCH ME!!!
It could be so much better, unraveling a mistery should have a little more... Mistery! Intrigue and riddles!! It's a damn treasure map!! One night, a little reading on the Index Page of a book and that's it! It was a little disappointing to me. The romance was also weak, I felt connected to Lane when she tells about her first night with Maddox, after that I kept hoping for more of them. A little more drama maybe, because it was all flat. I didn't believe she loved him that much, I didn't believe he loved her at all! He never showed anything to believe otherwise... Neither does she for that matter. Both were so into finding a treasure that there was nothing else there. I missed a little more something about them growing up together and maybe a little more of them kinda in love before he leaves, maybe the I would believe it all and be heartbroken. There's nothing about his issues with his father or mother just a moment. And the Jensen guy... Bad connection! I'm not saying he should have something but his motive wasn't good. I mean if he never believed it in the first place why would he believe it after just seeing a painting? I don't know... I liked the book, don't get me wrong, but there was so many potential to be one of her best books! I don't like when to explain something on a story you place one phrase or one little tale that the person says and all is explained, to me it's laziness. Who cares if the book will have 1.000 pages? I'm tired of trilogies and stuff but maybe it should have been divided into two or three books so we could really get to know each character, fall in love with them, hate the bad guy and try to solve the map together!
What can I say about Search Me....I really enjoyed this book. It was a thrill ride, filled with some mystery and plenty of emotion.
Lane Montgomery has spent her summers vacationing with her parents and working at Maudie's Mountain Brewery and Orchard. Maudie is like a Grandmother to her. She help to raise Lane's dad.
Lane and Maddox Diaz have been friends for a long time. They have spent their summers together working for Maudie and hanging out. Maddox was always teasing her. And Lane had a crush on him. Though they were a few years apart in age, you could feel the tension of the attraction that they had for one another. The last summer that they are together Maddox breaks Lane's heart. He has joined the Army.
When Maddox is medically discharged from the Army, he returns to the Brewery to work for Maudie. He finds himself face to face with Lane. Acting as if nothing has happened in their past. Lane still holds the hurt close to her heart and vows to not let him back in.
When Maudie is hurt, Lane and Maddox are thrown together to solve the mystery of an Old Indian Map, that they have found inside of a painting that Maudie has purchased. What happens next is nothing short of a thrill ride. While trying to decipher the map, they are chased, shot at and coerced into giving up the map and what treasure they may find, all for Lane's fathers freedom. Lane's love for Maddox is challenged and slowy her walls begin to crumble.
I give Search Me 4.5 stars. I love Katie Ashley and cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
Feel like a light romance, with a bit of action, suspense, mystery and thrills? Well, incredibly talented author, Katie Ashley, has created another masterpiece with her latest New Adult book, Search Me.
Search Me was the sort of book that you could read in one sitting. It will keep you riveted with the enthralling mystery and adventure, and captivated with the tension between swoon-worthy Hero Maddox Diaz, and sweet, if not a little immature heroine, Lane Montgomery.
This pair had a long-standing, childhood friendship, which had evolved into a brief summer of 'more', three years prior. Their friendship had been altered, and throughout the book, you'll journey through the unraveling of the discomfort, with the hope of rekindled love. Both feel out of each others' league, but both appreciate the deep connection that exists between them.
Search Me held fascinating revelations of The Cherokee Indians' hidden treasure, based (loosely) on a true Georgia Cherokee legend. I thoroughly enjoyed the focused attention on the history.
If you are a fan of movies like Indiana Jones and National Treasure, this will be a great read for you. It was a perfect blend of action, angst and love, with the fabulous splashes of Katie Ashley humor meticulously timed, as per usual! She is one clever lady. In fact, Search Me once again reminded me of her talent - being able to produce such a broad range of storyline and genre time after time. Well done Katie! Well done!
This read was one of those sweet, fun, I had sex with you one time and gave you my virginity and you left to the army because I thought you didn't love me reads. Oh! And there's a treasure hunt and crazy, desperate men sending this couple on the run as they "reacquaint" themselves with each other. Both the hero and heroine where very well written. I loved their history and I loved them coming back together even more. Their declarations of love felt a SMIDGE rushed toward the end, but hey, you won't hear me complaining too much because I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. There's a HEA, possessive, alpha hero, quirky smart heroine, an old map, and men with guns sending this couple on the run! You'll enjoy this quick fun read!
3'5 estrellas. Este libro me ha sorprendido para bien, pensaba que la protagonista iba a ser insufrible, pero no. Está bien para echar el rato, no es muy denso y se lee rápido. Yyyy ¡Quiero verano por favooooorrrr!
Put on your seat belts. It's going to be a bumpy ride!
If you had told me forty-eight hours ago, that I, Lane Montgomery--college student, part-time ballerina, sheltered and spoiled only child--would be running for my life from deranged treasure seekers with the very guy who broke my heart...I would have laughed in your face.
Lane and Maddox have a long history together from childhood to young adulthood spending time at Maudie’s Mountain Brewery and Orchard. They had a love hate relationship as kids that turned into a crush. And one night changed everything and ruined their entire relationship.
Lane is a now college student, ballerina, and general "good girl." Her life is stable and controlled. She has had limited experience with the opposite sex. Maddox broke her hearts three years ago and she is not really ready to forgive or forget. Avoidance seems like a better plan to her. But now that she is spending the summer back at Maudie's, it is going to be easier said than done.
Maddox is a recently discharged military vet. He is back home now and getting back into civilian life. He is cocky, flirty, and a little bossy. And even better looking than Lane remembers. He knows just how to push her buttons to get a rise out of Lane. Their witty rapport is sarcastic and laced with tension. I was dying to know what he did to make Lane hate him so much, but we find that out later in the story.
"...I was a punk through and through. And you...were such a little princess."
Shortly after being back in each other's lives, a dangerous event forces them to work together. Maddox is thrust in the role as her protector and soon they are on the run and on an adventure with bad guys breathing down their necks.
"Even though you loathe and despise my company, you're willing to stick it out because this is about the most excitement you've had in your little perfect princess world, and you like it.'
"I can't believe you're being sarcastic at a time like this!" "Yeah, well, I'm sorry that I'm not living up to your heroic expectations, princess."
It is a frantic, harrowing race to decipher a map, find what they are looking for, and keep themselves and those they love safe. They are forced to trust each other and in the midst of it all begin to really communicate again. Eventually those old feelings begin to come to the surface and they rekindle the passion and love they lost in the past. As I learned more about Maddox, I started to really like him. Together they were feisty, flirty, and fun despite the situation they were in. And the shared a history, a connection, and strong feelings that were never really resolved.
There are twists and turns, life threatening danger, and a pulse pounding climax. I was tense, surprised, and curious as to how they were going to get out of the mess they ended up in. It seemed like every turn ended with another hurdle to face.
"You fight back and give it everything you got until you don't have anything else!"
This book is a little different than other Katie Ashley books. It still has the romance, but it is more of a new adult romantic suspense novel with action, danger, and intrigue. But Katie always manages to provide humor and strong connections between the characters that transcend any genre. I found myself laughing out loud at some of their antics and really liked them together.
And I would be remiss if I did not mention how how that cover is! What a perfect Maddox!
Thanks to Katie Ashley for providing me with and ARC in exchange for an honest review. Will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.
NO SÉ. Ah si, sabemos que Maddox es un tarado, por cosas como esta: I pushed against him. “Let me up.” “Nope.” My eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Excuse me?” He shook his head slowly back and forth. “Not until you fully acknowledge that I’m a sex god.” I have to make it for you? I was falling for you. And I was so scared about Basic and what it would mean to us when I shipped out. Not to mention there was the fact you were just sixteen. I didn’t think it was fair to you to ask you to give up so much of your life to wait for me.” I blinked a few times as I tried processing his words. “Wait…you mean, you really did care for me, and I wasn’t making the whole thing up in my mind?” “Of course I did.” He gave me a tentative smile. “How could I not care about someone as amazing and wonderful as you?”
“When it comes down to it, you’ve always been the one, Maddox. Since I was fourteen years old, there’s never been another for for me, and there never will be.”
Search Me by Katie Ashley was a very surprising read. I was not expecting it to have so much mystery, suspense, and action in it before I started reading. I thought it would be a story of reuniting with your first love… I was pleasantly surprised with how the book played out.
Search Me is in the point of view of 19 year-old Lane. Lane is a princess, well not a REAL PRINCESS but she is a spoiled, only child, ballerina, “good girl”. Every summer since she was little her parents spent the entire summer with her father’s foster mother up in the mountains of Georgia. The foster mother started to foster a brother & sister about Lane’s age and they all became friends. As they grew older the attraction between Lane & Maddox grew and when Lane was 16 she lost her virginity to Maddox and told him she loved him. Maddox broke her heart and Lane was never the same again.
Three years has gone by since Lane last saw Maddox and now is has returned from his time in Afghanistan. As the two try to be cordial around one another while working together, the foster mother has uncovered a Native American treasure map. Men are after the map hurting people in the process to get what they want. Lane & Maddox go on the run with the map in hope to find the treasure and keep safe.
Search Me is a short read, I read it within a couple of hours. I really enjoyed the light read and was completely caught up in the suspense of the book. I really liked the characters a lot. I was fascinated with them and their story. I would have liked a little more depth about the characters and a little more with the storyline. It was very fast pace and everything happens very quickly.
I liked that the story was different, suspenseful, and also sweet. The connection between Maddox and Lane was easy to see, I would love to hear more about their relationship. They are so different I think it would be interesting to see how they cope with being in a relationship together, especially for Maddox who wasn’t a “relationship” type guy before Lane.
Search Me is different and unique. The characters are enjoyable, I just wish there was a little more to the story & characters.
I give Search Me 3.5 Stars.
ARC provided by the author in return for an honest review.
I love Katie Ashley’s books so was really looking forward to getting my teeth into another story, I had read the blurb and it immediately pulled me in, sort of like an Indiana Jones adventure come the guy gets the girl type of book. I thought wow, different, not a usual plot, can’t wait to read!!
I started the book and I loved the characters, Lane was a ballerina, only child, fairly spoilt but it had not changed her in anyway, she had been a bit over protected so was not particularly wise in the world, but she was adorable. Her father was an author who went to his house in the country every summer as he found the house his “muse” it was where all his best ideas came from. Lane always went along and worked at Maudie’s. Maudie was this adorable old lady that made preserves and ciders and she had gotten so famous that she opened a store, she fostered children and this is where Lane had first met Maddox.
Maddox, yum yum, he was 4 years older than Lane, they had played together as children most of their lives and were firm friends even though Maddox incessantly taunted and teased her. Maddox enlisted and before he left, he had a party, a farewell party, this is where he also said goodbye to Lane and Lane said goodbye to her virginity. They would not be reunited for another 3 years.
Three years later they meet again, Maudie has bought this old Cherokee painting in auction and Lane in her clumsiness manages to break the frame, inside the frame they discover this old map and then that is when the book turns a whole lot crazy.
I loved the premise of the story, but what should have been a really exciting read, unfortunately did not match up. I actually struggled to get into the book at this point. It just felt like something was missing, a bit of depth, some Ooomph. The story of the treasure hunt was just like they did this, they did that I just felt I couldn’t feel the scene and I couldn’t feel their emotions either. I wanted to feel scared and I wanted to feel afraid, but I didn’t .
I loved the story though and it pains me to write this about a Katie Ashley book but I always give an honest review and in doing so can only award 3 stars…but 3 stars is still “I liked it”. We don’t all have the same opinions and you may really love it, so go give it a try. It is still a good read and the sex scenes are still HAWT!! We all know Katie Ashley can do a great love scene and this book does not disappoint!!
With the power of white, leave where there are tracks and travel into the place where the yellow gift was first found. From there, ward off the devastation of the Black Man to go into where the rocks talk. Find the cave where the pretty fawn shed her tears. When twenty year old Lane Montgomery accidently breaks, Maudie’s painting, never in a million years did she think she would stumble upon a treasure map. This isn’t just a treasure map but one that leads to the lost treasure of some Cherokee Gold. When her grandmother’s life is put in danger, Lane has no choice but to trust Maddox Diaz to protect her and her family. The very same Maddox, that broke her heart three years ago. Although it was young love, he was her first love, her only love and he crushed her. “I love you. I always have, and I always will.” After three years in the Army, twenty-three year old Maddox Diaz returns home. When he sees Lane again for the first time in years it brings all of his regrets to the surface. Slowly trying to become her friend again he soon realizes it will be easier said than done. “So...after all this time and everything that has passed, I’d hoped you weren’t going to hold a grudge.” When the unthinkable happens to her grandmother, Maddox makes a promise to do all he can to protect Lane. With their family’s lives in danger, they are forced to go on a treasure hunt. Threatened by ruthless treasure seekers, friends become enemies, gun fire erupts and the only people they can depend on is each other. Lane is focusing on trying to stay alive but is having a hard time denying what she still feels for the man who broke her years before. “My heart, body, and soul have always been and always will be yours, Maddox.” Lane is a fun character. She is smart, brave, beautiful. She gave herself to Maddox and he crushed her, no one has ever been able to replace her feelings for him. Maddox is a hottie and is torn. He battles his true feelings for Lane but feels very undeserving. I loved their chemistry together and their banter. Katie Ashley has a modern day romancing the stone with this one. Hot sex, hot couple, buried treasure and danger lurking all around. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I felt the heart ache, the desire, excitement and the fear. A wonderful and entertaining read.
That was so great. A treasure hunt. But not only were they finding a lost treasure they are finding their way back to one another. After years if anger and resentment Lane comes face to face with the one man she gave everything to. Her love, her virginity and herself but he ran. She poured out her heart and he left her with nothing but tears and years of anger. Although at the time I wanted nothing more than to knee him in his magic wand, not only for the past but for the way he acted toward Lane, but eventually I forgave him especially after he eventually pours out his heart. Although he was a complete jerk I still fell for him. I think I saw something well felt something even when he left Lane sitting. I knew he cared for her but something made him bolt. I just wasn't positive until later.
Maddox well although i loved him and hated him he still had me..
This book was packed with crazy, but the good kind. The kind that makes you giggle like a school girl and swoon like a love struck idiot. The suspense was nail biting but so wonderful because of the emotions and feelings it brings out between Lane and Maddox.
Oh this had me...
Oh and I must not forget the shower, that was...
When all of the crazy suspense was over I was like.....
I have said and will still say that Katie Ashely can write. I have read every book I have found of hers. Wether they are angsty, romantic, suspenseful or deep she can write. Her characters are awesome and the story flows so smoothly.
This book was just another heart pumping, goofy smiling, squeeing book that I loved.
Katie Ashely has become one of my go-to authors over the last year. Putting out great book after great book, she has been relegated to my automatic one-click list, which means I don't need reviews or synopses to know that I'll enjoy them! Imagine my surprise, then, when I began to read this romantic suspense from her. Wow! I wasn't expecting it, but I really enjoyed it. There were definitely some moments of nail-bitting and breath-holding but, overall, it was just a fun read. I loved all the 80s references and regional references since I grew up in the 80s and in North Georgia.
I loved Lane as a goody-goody character who has a hard time swearing but is bound and determined not to let Maddox see her sweat. She has her goals in life, but has always been in love with Maddox and longed for him. She tells him, "You're leaving, and I can't think of anything better I could give you than myself." Tear! Her feelings for him and what went down between them broke my heart. I was so happy to see her get her second chance at love with our brooding Maddox.
Maddox--WOW! He's definitely got his issues, but he's just a little hottie. He's a bad boy, a solider, and an orphan. Aww...This is what causes the bad boy with the heart of gold to bury his true feelings so deep that they need a life or death situation to unearth them. When he tells Lane that she was crazy to want him because he has such issues, my heart broke for him too. He comes around, though, and is well aware of what he threw away with Lane and tells her, "Trust me, it wasn't all that other stuff. It was just little Lane I used to push in mud piles, and she was beautiful." Swoon...
Favorite quote and deserving of its own paragraph--"But I never wanted just your body, Lane. I always wanted your heart. I was just too afraid to ask for it."--Maddox
My only wish is that that ending hadn't been rushed after the mystery had been wrapped up. I would've loved to seen a little more of the budding romance between Lane and Maddox. I know it wasn't that kind of book, but that's just the romantic in me.
I adore the writings of Katie Ashley. I think the thing that I love the most is that she does not pigeon-hole herself into one kind of story. She writes YA to Adult to Contemporary. “Search Me” now brings in her talent with writing some mystery.
Lane Montgomery and Maddox Diaz are two completely opposite people. A Dancer and an Army Specialist. Two people who have known each other forever. Two people who had one night of passion where she gave him her virginity and her heart. One woman who was in love. One man who took what he was given and ran. Now, he’s back and she’s doing everything in her power to stay away from him, to ignore him and keep hold of her heart.
Maddox returns a different man. But, there is one thing that hasn’t changed – his feelings for Lane. The woman that got away. The woman that he could never tell how he feels. The one woman who got him through his hellish nights in the Army. The woman who he was not good enough for.
The story of Lane and Maddox took many twists and turns. Lost Cherokee Gold … a man who will not stop at anything to get what he thinks should belong to him … two people on the run who finally face their feelings, fall in love and face the world and the danger together. I was thoroughly smitten with Maddox. He’s hot, sexy and such a take-charge guy. Lane was feisty and fun, loveable and had a heart of gold. Together, they sizzled and lit the pages up. I was not the least bit disappointed in Search Me and thoroughly enjoyed how the story moved and played out. You wondered, as you turned the pages, how they would get away, how and when they would face their feelings, how her family would deal with everything that occurred …. if Maudie would pull through. Loved it and love the diverse writings of Katie Ashley.
Lane has come home for the summer to work at her grandmothers store. She is shocked to learn that Maddox Diaz is home from the army. Lane can't decide whether to run back to the city or face the guy who broke her heart when she was sixteen. She has never forgotten or stopped loving Maddox When she finally comes face to face with him, she can't stop her heart from racing and wishing things had been different. Maddox is still as cocky , confident and infuriating as he always was.
When a creepy man shows up at the store demanding her grandmother give him a painting she recently purchased, the boring safe summer Lane expected ends. When violence follows, Maddox and Lane find themselves on the run with a treasure map and gun men following them.
I love the new adult genre and I wasn't sure how this book would play out with the mystery part. I have to say Katie Ashley did a great job. Maddox is a creat character, he is ex army, who is discharged due to injury, so he can handle it all. His man main objective is to protect Lane and that's what he will do. The romance is great because the is no outside drama. They come to terms with their past and how much they love each other. So this romance and mystery is a good read. I hope they have more adventures.

I received an ARC of this book & here is my honest review:
If you are looking for a book that is different than what you've been reading and you are interested in action/adventure and romantic books then look no further. Search Me has everything. It is an extremely fast paced treasure hunting adventure complete with bad guys, guns, and jumping off cliffs. If that doesn't sell you and you're looking for something with a little more romance, just wait because there is plenty of that in Search Me too. Lane & Maddox grew up as close friends. When I say close, I mean close. Maddox was Lane's first, but then he went off to basic training for the Army and that was the end of them. 3 years later and Lane still hasn't found a guy that can make her feel the way Maddox does.
Will they rekindle their lost love while searching for Native American treasure and fearing for their lives? You'll have to read to find out. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone; it's different, fun, and a quick read.
I have to say, if it wasn't for that shower scene with Maddox, this would've been a 3.5 but it got bumped up solely for that part. It was a good read - lots of action - the characters are on the run for almost all of the boook. I like the childhood crush aspect and I loved Maddox. Lane kind of drove me nuts. She seemed to break down a lot even right after she said she'd be strong or she was so mad she wanted to kill the guy...then she was crying. I don't blame Maddox for not really knowing what to do. The historical Cherokee aspects were cool and the plot was interesting but it wasn't one of those books I couldn't put down. I actually ended up putting it down a couple of times. Nevertheless, it was a decent read and most of that is thanks to Maddox Diaz :)
I didn't like Lane at all. She was either crying, puking or just being annoying. I get her wanting to be there for Maddox to talk about Maudie, but for the love of God, could she have let it go until they weren't being chased by killer, treasure hunters?! She just kept crying and trying to get him to talk about his feelings, and it really bugged me. And then after how he treated her before he left for basic training, she let's him apologize and forgives him. What is with these women who let the guy say sorry, and then all is forgiven and it's all sunshine and rainbows?! It doesn't really work that way.
