Kapitel nutrition: you should eat protein, carbs and fat. Kapitel mental health: you could be depressed. You can go to therapy or take meds. Kapitel social media: this could be bad for you. Some sources say it could help. Some people use plastic surgery. But thats not always helpful.

This book could not be more timely. Dr. Markey's book is perfectly attuned to her target audience -- young adults -- and presents a wealth of comprehensive information about body image. She covers the myriad factors that influence body image and shares tangible steps readers can take, all in an accessible and inviting format. Highly recommend!

I've been delighted and privileged to have had an opportunity to read an advance copy of the book. Adultish is an excellent introduction to body image for all, backed by science, accompanied by personal stories, and clearly identifying diet culture and misinformation. It's a genuinely gorgeous book, with clear takeaway messages at the end of each chapter, as well as recommendations for further reading. Also, there are exercises you can engage in, so it's not just reading about body image but an opportunity to work to improve your own. We can all benefit from better relationships with our bodies, food and movement and Dr Markey makes it clear how.
I'm a Senior Lecturer in Body Image and Eating Disorders and will be ordering copies for the University library.

As a psychologist, I'm very impressed with this book. It is highly readable, and well researched. I have given Dr. Markey's other books to my kids and this one is fantastic for teens and young adults who are struggling with specific body image or eating issues, and also for those who are not. Through stories and expert advice, the author deepens our understanding of how body image affects so many areas of our life and how we can become more accepting of ourselves in a culture that makes that difficult.

Excellent read for anyone who wants to learn more about body image and get practical tips, as well as resources, to help improve your body image. I would say the target audience is likely teens and young adults; however, a lot of the research and skills are applicable to individuals of any age. The book also includes various screeners so you can do self-checks on various aspects of body image.

Consider this my recommendation: good, well written, will be using this material for talks at camp with college gals. Useful to understand your body a little more! And an encouragement to treat it kindly.

More for adolescents than for adults.
The collection of stories brought me melancholy of my 20s. Not therapeutic for me, I would give 3.5 star.
