Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia in the 80's was filled with fun, friendship and lots of adventure. Especially for me and my siblings, on Oak Street! We weren't rich, but we learned to take what we had and have fun with it. We played restaurant, made mud pies and had barbecue chicken made out of sticks and dirt. There was never a dull moment as we fought monsters, played chase and took turns riding one bike. It was a time when imagination reigned supreme and dreams were the stuff of life.Take a walk down my memory lane. Take off your shoes, grab a cup of lemonade and stay awhile...you'll enjoy your visit to Oak Street. A heartwarming story the whole family will enjoy.

A short story about some of the events of her childhood, Author Lovely Whitmore will have you laughing. This book is for all ages. In fact, I'm going to read this to my niece and nephew. Race has nothing at all to do with who will enjoy this book, but if you're an African American you can definitely relate.

I couldn't stop laughing for the life of me. I'm an eighties baby, so I definitely see me and my siblings in this story. I too have a brother and a sister. I'm the middle child, so I was blamed for a lot of the things we did while growing up.

Loved the stories, especially the one about the goats and the baptism. That baptism story was so..... there are no words. God is good.
Definitely recommends this to all readers. My only problem was maybe the couple of grammar errors that were in First Person POV. The other POVs were spot on, because as we all know, that's how kids talk. I know I did! Great read!

There's a very folksy feel to this book, a style that reminded me a bit of the feel of Samuel Clemens writing. Actually, it was quite refreshing to see this style of writing, it made it extra engaging for me. As I was reading about Lovely's life growing up it reminded me of my own growing up in Minnesota many years ago. While this story is the story of someone elses childhood it might just get you thinking about your own. I know that it did for me. This story has been written with a touch of humor throughout that I really enjoyed. Some of them really had me chuckling.

Being that this is a significant day for me, I'm so glad I read this book. It is a reminder of days gone by. It is a reminder of when life might have been rough, but it was good. There were some punctuation errors but the story could have been mine.

What I was not prepared for and yet absolutely blessed by was the turn to ministry by the least expected...but that's how God works. A delightful novelette. Thank you for sharing Lovely.

Its how young children back in the day had to be more creative with how to entertain themselves. They didn't have the same amenities children of this age have. I have enjoyed reading this book and am an avid reader of the great works of Lovely Whitmore. I can't wait to read a continuation of this story and to see if it will be a series. Wonderful writing Lovely.
