The town of Arden, in the west of Scotland, is old. Its history is lost in the mists of time. But history keeps repeating itself, and Arden has had a troubled history since ancient times.
Nick Ryan returns to Arden to settle down in his childhood home. But Arden’s disturbing history is about to catch up with him.
As he uncovers the truth about his home town, something has awoken under the dark rock that looms over the estuary. It is hungry. And angry.
The ancient walls which kept it in check have been breached. It wants to be free. It will wreak its revenge.
All that stands between it and Arden are Nick Ryan, a brain-damaged man, and the young daughter of a childhood friend.
Wow, what a long trip! An ancient evil named Cu Saeng Is haunting a small Scottish town. Nicky returned to the town just after the evil got active again. Will he and his friends from then win the fight against the demon once and for all? The story reminded a bit on IT by Stephen King. It had a very strong beginning, was extremely haunting and had a nameless evil monster. At the end it was a tad too long winded. But if you're looking for a monster haunting town novel you should definitely take a look at that story here. Well written (okay there were a few typos) and really good. Highly recommended!
Finallyyy! After almost half a year, I'm done lmao! This book is sooo good but a bit hard to get through and the last 60pages is a bit dragging. Also, this is probably the most gruesome book I've read 🤢 I love it tho 😆
Good book, feels like it takes a while to truly kick in, and the flashbacks are a little long (and italic), but the second half makes it worth the read.
I first read this book many years ago, and remember finding it a struggle. Decided to give it another go, mostly because the cover is cool. Well, the plot is good and the setting (in Scotland) is atmospheric. I think the story draws a little too heavily on IT by Stephen King, with respect to the plot is about a great evil presence that lies deep beneath the town, rearing its ugly head every few decades to cause death and misery. We also have a group of kids who try - and fail - to destroy this evil presence. They go away and grow up, then return as adults to try again. I did like the history behind the story, and the appearance of the monster at the book's conclusion is very well handled. I certainly found it interesting enough to stick with. However, the version I have is riddled with proof errors, and formatting errors and seems not to have been edited all that much! This is surprising, as Arrow Books was a major publishing house back in the day. Worth a read if you ignore the errors and mistakes.
A small town that is haunted by an ancient entity. I found it parallels Stephen King's It. There are many similarities between Bane and It. Children confronting and temporary defeating the evil, and returning as adults to finish the job. The final confrontation happening in a subterranean space. Being set in a small town. I nonetheless enjoyed it. However the similarities to It detracted from my experience somewhat. 3.5/5.
My favourite horror story to this day! was extremely suprised to see this having barely any rating, it's like stephen kings 'IT' but ten times better. For the sake of a few pounds/dollars etc I reccomend to all.
