Full Circle
The author, Regina Neequaye, presents a heroine, Thandisha who has witnessed a most devastating act where her father kills her mother. That's the opening for this story, the Zero Degree mark. Indeed, our heroine goes full circle. The chapters are cleverly marked by degrees that symbolically earmark the challenges, changes, and life events that shape "Thandie" as she matures from a teenager to an adult.
Clearly that tragic incident involving her mother and father imposes itself on every aspect and relationship of Thandie's life: The cantankerous relationship with her Grandmother, the overly protective relationship with her brother, Khalid, the love affair with Andreas, the only man she's ever loved. The novel ends as it started, but with more details that brings Thandie to a shattering awakening about her parent's relationship.
This is a good read about coming full circle. I enjoyed it, and I recommend it.
