Elm Jed is obsessed with creating stories through writing, videos, or painting on random pieces of wood. When they’re not telling their best friend a new story idea from reading a book they hate, they’re playing DND, conjuring spells, playing dress-up, or going for a long drive. They're a Marine Corps Veteran, and love spending time with the Ren Faire family.
They absolutely love their supportive partner and husband, who makes sure they eat between writing and reading the books they collect for their hoard.

This is a lovely collection of short stories from Before the happenings of the first book. How Brenda came to the underground, and how she quickly became the undergrounds favorite child. It changes POV often, as each chapter focuses on a different person within the canon.
It can be read as a standalone, first, or once you've read all of the books in the Underground series. Now, you'll better love it once you've read the others, but its still a wonderful collection of found family stories, with Brenda being the tie in for all the others.
I am on Elm Jeds Patreon. So I have read a couple of these before or the earlier ideas of them at least. Safe to say, even those have improved for this book. I adore the universe created, and this has just made me so happy. It brought tears to my eyes, I've laughed, and I've just sat here in amazement. Elm is my favourite author. And with each book they release, it solidifies this more. Thank you, Elm Jed. You created a world and a family that has helped so much of my inner healing.
Reading this series always feels like a long awaited homecoming. I loved the depth and context that we got in this book and connecting it with what we already know from the others. There were no shortage of stunning quotes to highlight, especially when it came to parental lessons and encouragement that I sorely needed to hear. I never tire of learning more about the Underground and those who call it home, and I can't wait to return when the next book comes out.
I don't have enough stars for anything Elm Jed writes. This story was no exception. I loved getting to know the protagonists a little more. It made me feel like I was getting a hug from the whole family. Highly recommend!
