And it all began rather serendipitously. Long ago, as they say, in another time, when fast food hadn't reached our area and the only shopping was what the feed mill offered, I was reading a book that annoyed me .

My husband was lying beside me in bed, watching TV. Turning to him, I sort of petulantly said, "How the hell did this book get published?"

"If you think you're so smart," he replied, with one eye still on the TV, "why don't you write a book?"

So I did. And very badly.

I've since learned how to do, he said, she said, and a great variety of other adverb heavy, sometimes lengthy explanations of why my characters are saying what they're saying, along with finally coming to an understanding of what things like POV means. Point of View for you non-writers}.

Although, I still don't fully comprehend why it matters if you switch POV and I cavalierly disregard it as much as possible. So while my technical skills have hopefully improved, what hasn't changed is my great joy in writing. There's as much pleasure today in listening to my characters talk while I type as fast as I can, as there was the first time I put dialogue to paper--in long-hand, then, in my leather bound sketch-book.

It was common gossip that "Duff" D'Abernon, Marquis of Darley, had returned from Waterloo a changed man. Gone was the reckless youth and in his place was a sullen recluse more interested in tending his horses than attending balls. But now the Marquis was entering the game again, openly flirting with the beautiful, witty, and thoroughly disreputable Annabelle Foster. Annabelle's no stranger to scandal. The actress-playwright is rumored to have had liaisons with any number of powerful men, with an illegitimate daughter to show for it. She won't chance heartache again, even for a man as tempting as Duff D'Abernon. What she offers instead is a compromise: a true friendship between equals. Each agrees to the terms. A bargain is struck. And an idyllic summer begins. But what starts as friendship soon blossoms into searing passion. And the only thing worse than risking their hearts is not risking them at all...

This is the second book in the series and just as good as the first! I appreciated that the first book was about the Marquis of Darley and his wife, and this book is about there first son, the original Marquis and Marchioness (who through inheritance are now the duke and duchess) still play a part in this book as well. Most sequels are usually about a child or minor character from the previous book and in the sequel the previous book's characters receive a minor mentioning or small part (usually hinting at an up coming child or pregnancy). In, When Someone Loves You, the duke and duchess play a significant role in the later story concerning there son, and interact through out the entire book.

I'm pretty much a creature of habit and stick mostly to historical romance, which as much as I enjoy this type of book some of the story lines can become so similar they tend to blend together after a while... for me these books stand out in my memory they are original with out leaving my comfort zone

When You Love Someone and When Someone Loves you are now on my list of all time favorites I'm looking forward to the third book, and interested to know what the variation of the title will be lol!

Duff came back from the war injured in both body and spirit. Although his body has recovered he still suffers from nightmares both at night and day. He has spent a year as a recluse recovering.

Annabelle, an actress and playwrite, is hiding from her ex-lover who blackmailed her into becoming his mistress. She is with her mother and niece, whose mother died in childbirth.

Duff and Belle meet at a horse event and a friendship ensues resulting in Duff's mental recovery (due to Belle) and the recovery of Belle's mother's despair as well (due to Duff). Then the relationship becomes a love affair, with an excrutiatingly annoying scene in which Belle changes her mind repeatedly about whether or not she wants to have sex.

I did not like either of these characters, especially Annabelle who has a chip on her shoulder.
