When Alexis Lin heads to Sin City for the summer, she wants nothing more than to dive into the clubs, spas, and concerts – the benefits of her father’s high roller lifestyle. On her first night in the city, Alexis gets into trouble at a club but walks away from it with the help of Connor Vincent. Private security guard to the top gamblers, Connor is all charm with his clients, but he's the anti-Prince Charming when it comes to women. Connor doesn’t have time for romance. He has his own problems to deal with, including his wild card of a brother who has come to town to collect on a past debt.

Alexis and Connor's unlikely chemistry heats things up as chance again conspires to throw them together. The stakes become even higher when unexpected tragedy strikes Alexis’ family and when Connor’s brother threatens to ruin the life that Connor has worked so hard to build. To come out ahead of the game, Alexis must be brave enough to listen to her heart, Connor must finally face up to his past, and both must decide how much they're willing to lose.

Sometimes risking your heart is the biggest gamble of all.

Losing Enough is a New Adult Contemporary Romance-Suspense. Due to mature subject matter (sexual situations and strong language), this novel is recommended for readers 18+ years old.

Helen Boswell loved to get lost in the pages of a story from the time she could sound out the words. Originally from upstate New York, Helen spent much of her early adult life tromping around Buffalo, NYC, Toronto, and Las Vegas, those cities now serving as inspiration for the dark and gritty urban backdrops of her stories. An author of both urban fantasy and contemporary romance, Helen loves to read and write characters that come to life with their beauty, flaws, and all.

Helen dedicates her time to raising her family of two boys, teaching college students, and of course, writing.

I truly enjoyed this genre debut from Helen Boswell. Losing Enough, is not your typical cookie cutter New Adult read. Which, honestly, was like waking up in the morning and smelling that first big strong whiff of fresh brewed coffee. (yes, coffee is more important than air, in my book)

Alex is in Sin City for the summer, with her parents, looking for nothing more than some quality fun and family time. She's a bit of a free spirit, secure in who she is and where she is in her life.

A night out with a long time friend has her hopes of quality fun swirling quickly down the drain. It also has her running into Connor, the "Anti-Prince Charming Himself".

Connor is, well, an ass. He pulled himself out a shit childhood, full of bad people, horrible situations and unfortunate circumstances. He found a way to make a life for himself, a career, a name. No distractions, no games, no trouble...those are the rules Connor plays by. But one saucy redhead has him willing to break all the rules.

Though the first run in has Alex feeling no love for Connor, as his defenses slowly break down so do her apprehensions. Connor is so much more than his initial impression leads him to be, his heart is big, his intentions pure. And boy...when he decides to let the nice boy buried inside show...swoon, melt, die. Repeat.

But this is not a hot, heavy and fast romance. It is a light pull to each other, not a fanatic obsession that could burn out as quickly as the flame starts. An attraction that turns into a tentative fling with the potential of a relationship. A nice slow burn, which I LOVED.

Another point I loved was there it is no internal turmoil, cheating, lack of communication or any such thing that causes drama for these two. This is not an angsty, pull your hair out read.

It is dramatic and exciting and sad but that comes from real life issues that Alex and Connor both have to deal with from outside sources. Yet, instead of pushing each other away they work together to deal with everything that life throws at them. Mostly, anyway.

Surviving the dangers that a life surrounded by money, power and sin have them wading through makes them stronger individuals and as such, perhaps a stronger couple.

I like that Boswell broke the New Adult mold with Losing Enough. I don't always want to read the same formula time and time again. Losing Enough was different, and though I would have loved to have more "feels" from it, I enjoyed that it was so much more mature and thoughtful than a lot of the other books flooding the genre right now.

At least not with this book...

After 43% not much happened.. Of course there were some events but they weren't good or interesting enough for me to keep reading.
I think after 43% only 4 days in the story passed.

Even though nearly half of the book passed there wasn't much interaction between hero and heroine. That annoyed me the most. The hero and heroine only shared a few short meetings.

The inner monologues of the MCs were overloaded on information and also uncoordinated IMO.
It was also hard for me to tell what time of the day it was during the story. I was constantly
wondering: Was it already the next day? Or still evening?

And I also found myself rereading some parts because I just didn't get them. I don't know if it's just me because English is not my first language or if it's really the writing.

It's really a pity that I can't motivate me to read further because I actually liked the cocky hero..

Losing Enough is AMAZEBALLS!

Alexis is in her early twenties, she knows what she wants to do with her life. But after going to Las Vegas for the summer, everything changes!

On her first night in Vegas, Alexis has a few drinks, and some JERK almost takes advantage of her……and here comes Connor! OH-MY-CONNOR!

Connor, is serious about his job, and doesn’t want to get close to any girl, but when he meets Alexis, he can’t stop thinking about her. But Alexis is not having any of it, when she goes to a concert with her friend and her mom, Connor, shows up to the venue, and gets invited to see the concert with them. Alexis starts to see Connor in a whole new light. I LOVED Connor from the very beginning, how can you not love him!??! Yes, he may have BIG problems going on, but he will stop at nothing to protect Alexis.

Losing Enough, had me crying, laughing, and makes me want to go to Las Vegas, for the summer, maybe I can find my own Connor ;)
THANK YOU to my friend Helen Boswell for letting me read Losing Enough early! I LOVE her books, she is a wonderful author! I definitely recommend this book to everyone!

Alexis is on vacation in the big city of Las Vegas, ready to let loose and have some fun with her long time friend Elle, but her first night back she finds herself in trouble and her rescuer is a very reluctant private security guard named, Connor. Connor's more than rude and wants nothing to do with Alexis or her life, but he can't resist the pleas of Elle, his only real friend. Connor thinks he's done with her once he drops her off, but the world has other plans. So they throw caution to the wind and stop fighting what the city is trying to tell them and ready themselves to have one hell of a heated summer.

Connor has set up a nice life for himself as a private security guard for Vegas high rollers. He left his troubled life behind him, but one mention of his brother and Connor is defensive. He let's no one in and carries around his dark past like a shadow. It haunts him. But then Alexis walked into his life and begins to test his protective shields with her bright disposition.

Alexis is on vacation, determined to have nothing but a good time, but when trouble finds her the first night she's there a shadow is cast on her visit. And that shadow is one Connor Vincent, the man that rescued her against his will, the guy that haunts her thoughts with his tall, dark and rugged good looks and brooding attitude. But she won't let him and his panty twisting attitude ruin her vacation.

Neither of them can stand each other. And neither of them can resist each other. They are thrown together by forces around them and it is a true test of wills to see how long they can resist each other. And when they finally stop resisting and fighting it is definitely explosive and HOT! These two heat up the Vegas strip more than the desert heat. Now nothing can keep them apart, that is until trouble in the form of Connor's brother walks into town.

Now danger haunts them and threatens their fast and hot relationship. They are both tested and tried. And they both must decide what they are willing to Lose. Can they be together? Do they walk away?

When do they know they have lost enough? In Losing Enough we follow Connor and Alexis as they both decide when enough is enough. We see them as they fight what we know is there, as they resist the temptation we all know they long for and desire. We see their deepest thoughts and darkest secrets. We see the very fiber of who they are. And we yell at them as they make stupid mistakes that we know will destroy them. Losing Enough is a story of heat, passion, temptation, love, hurt, and fighting to keep it all. It is the story of never giving up and never giving in.

Losing Enough is that perfect fast paced read that will deliver you to happiness and make you beg for more.

I had a lot going on as I read this book and even with my mind preoccupied I was able to take a lot of enjoyment from the story. It's so weird to read an NA where the love between 2 characters isn't all angsty and HERE IS WHY WE CAN'T BONE and stuff. I loved this book for that reason. Also, the characters are really honest with each other and that's big. Sure, I enjoy the angst from time to time, but this was such a change of pace from the usual plot problem that I was able to enjoy it for what it was.

ARC Review:

Ok this was a hard review for me to write because Losing Enough was so phenomenal and meant so much to me, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the awesomeness across to y'all but I'll try.

This is more than a boy meets girl and fall in love story. This is about discovering who you really are, learning to grow with your faults and overcoming painful pasts. Throw in the fast pace Vegas lifestyle and its you've got a steamy, exciting, sexy adventurous story.

Alexis Lin has come to Vegas every summer with her parents as long as she can remember. Her father is a high roller and she enjoys all the luxuries that comes with that. Alexis wants to hang out at the pool with her mom and go to the clubs with her best friend, Elle. One night a she ends up relying on the help of a arrogant but handsome stranger Connor Vincent, who just happens to be Elle's cousin.

Connor has come from a tragic past filled with abuse, neglect and the dangerous threat of gang life constantly threatening to over take him. Despite all of this, Connor has climbed out of the darkness of his childhood and risen above what could have been a repetitive future. He's not completely unscathed by his past, Connor still carries the deep burden of a past girl friend's horror at the hands of his brother Cruz.

The night Connor helps Alexis he's hooked, there's something about her that he can't ignore and craves to be near her. Her energetic, positive laid back personality balances out Connor's business like attitude on life and soon the two can't ignore the passion building between the two of them.

The exciting newness of summer love is sucked away from Connor and Alexis when Cruz shows up in Vegas. Jealous of what his brother has accomplished, Cruz threatens to destroy all that Connor has built for himself, if he doesn't help him. Connor now faces the possibility of losing everything he's worked so hard for, including Alexis. Out of options, he is forced to face a past he's worked so hard to overcome or risk losing everything.

I loved every minute of this story, from beginning to end I couldn't get enough. Losing Enough was such a deep story. The amount of growth Connor went through in this story was touching. He went from a self centered cocky guy to a man who would put his life on the land for the women he loves. He became well rounded not for Alexis but because of her. Connor wanted to push past his issues and become a better person for himself.

Alexis' warm, loving and accepting personality was just what Connor needed. She never judged him for who he was or what happened in the past. She knew that under that tough exterior, there was a sensitive, loving man craving the piece of his heart he'd been missing for so long.

This Losing Enough will not only touch your heart, but the lessons and love you find will stay with you for a long time to come.

Losing Enough is definitely a mix of everything that makes New Adult such an enjoyable and popular theme among books today. There are only a handful of New Adult books and series that I truly enjoy, and I am definitely going to be adding Helen’s series to that list.

Helen takes her readers on one hell of a ride with Alexis’ and Connor’s story. One of the things that really got me interested in this book was that Helen was thinking outside the box when it came to New Adult, and gave her book a unique feel to help accomplish that. I was a little hesitant at first, until I heard a few people talk about the book and read what it was all going to be about. I am really glad I decided to pick up the book and give it a try, it’s definitely a fresh approach to New Adult in several ways, and I am looking forward to seeing how Helen is able to expand on her approach to New Adult.

I’ve seen it mentioned that this book starts off on a somewhat slow pace, and I really don’t feel as though that is the case. Stories take time to build allowing the characters to grow and giving the readers the ability to form a connection with the characters in the process. I feel like Helen handled the pacing of this book beautifully while still making sure that it wasn’t a fast paced story that you couldn’t keep up with.

You’ll see a lot of familiar themes in Losing Enough that you are probably use to in New Adult, but as I mentioned above, Helen really does take a fresh approach to it all in order to build an incredible story that easily grabs reader’s attention. If you are a fan of New Adult, then I really think you will like this book. Between watching Alexis and Connor build their relationship or seeing how the other characters such as Elle impact the story, it’s well worth reading.

Alexis and Elle are easily my favorite characters in the book, and among my favorite characters of the last few years of reading. So hopefully that will speak as to how well Helen wrote her characters and made them stand out.

New Adult is definitely the genre to be in right now, it’s rapidly gaining popularity and it (officially) took the world by storm very quickly over the past couple of years. The Taking Chances series will do very well in my opinion amongst the large amount of books and series that are entering the scene, and it’s definitely one of the series that I will follow until the end. I hope that you all will check out this book and see for yourself why I think it is so great.

I tried to love this, I did! But it moved like a turtle and for the entire leg of the first half it dragged! Gah!

description

*Yes, I am aware that this is a snail and NOT a turtle. Still couldn’t help myself from using this gif though!*

I barely got through this read and it was not because the story was bad or anything.

It’s just that, while I do appreciate build ups instead of insta-love and fast moving romances… this aspect turned out to bite me in the butt and grated on my nerves and patience.

description

By the time some action (and I don’t necessarily mean sexual), I was already doing this:

So, a decent read but needed up pick up the pace and perhaps even up the ante. Not much was going on to keep my attention. It just didn’t click with me.

I’m so sorry!!

I had the pleasure of reading Ms. Boswell's book "Losing Enough" just shortly after it was released and I must say that I was happily surprised at just how good this book is. I have read all of Helen's books, and when I discovered that she was entering into this genre of fiction my first thought was "Oh NO! There are so many books out there like this! How will she make this book unique?" Again, happily, I loved reading this book, with its unique characters and settings.

Being an avid reader, I feel that too many books in this genre follow a cookie-cutter format and offer nothing new or exciting to the field. This book however is GREAT!.

Connor is a multi-dimensional character. More than just a hot face/great body, as you progress through this story you find out a great deal about his life that adds to the dimension of the character. Same with Alex. Again, as you read through this entire book, the pasts of these characters emerge in a way that allow you to perfectly visualize the interactions between them, in their entire complexity. As one reads this book, the subtle details that Helen crafts in the personalities of these characters brings them to life in your imagination in a way that only a few authors can do.

This book is a fantastic addition to its field. It offers a unique story set in an exciting location (Vegas!), and brings very real characters to life as they meet and fall in love. If you are a fan of this genre, I highly recommend this book!

Excellent job Helen! Can't wait to read the next installment in the series!

When I found out that Helen Boswell was writing an NA novel and that it was set in Vegas, I was thrilled. I live in Las Vegas and the author nailed the details perfectly. This book isn't your typical NA, in terms of sex, they do have it but its not the sole focus. Losing Enough is more than whats out there right now. It's about real life struggles, falling in love, and learning to let go.

Alexis, Alex, is a girl some might think as spoiled because every summer she gets to vacation in Las Vegas while her High Roller dad plays the scene, but it’s nothing like that. First night in town she goes to see her best friend at the bar she works at, bumps into a guy that seems like an ass. Little does she know that she will be seeing more of him, especially when he saves her from a douche bag and then takes her home.

Connor…oh how I love Connor. He comes off as an ass, but in his line of work, and his past, you can’t really blame him. When a girl he took home for his cousin to make up for the past, he never thought he would be thinking about her again. Connor has a past though, one he moved to Vegas to avoid, but it seems it’s found him anyways. I love who he becomes with Alex. She's able to break through his walls and see the real Connor that's hidden deep.

When Alex and Connor start seeing each other, things in both of their lives make things difficult. Alex’s mom is sick and her dad got into business with the wrong person, Connor’s twin brother has a demand, and the feelings between the two are more than just a fling. But will they let it develop into something more? Life has a way of pulling people together just when you need it, but sometimes fate needs a helping hand.

Does Alex and Connor have a future, or will the past get in the way? You need to pick this book up and read it for yourself. Helen Boswell did an amazing job in bringing these characters to life, and my only complaint is I want more. I couldn’t get enough of Alex and Connor and hope to see more of them later on. Hear that Helen Boswell, can I get a novella please? This is definitely a book I can read over and over again, just writing this review weeks after I read the book, makes me want to pick it back up!

Losing Enough was recommended to me by a trusted author friend. I have always taken her advice and have never been led wrong, this is no exception. I started reading and could not stop. The 300+ pages in Losing Enough flew by, I could not get enough of Alexis and Connor.

There is no cheating and there is plenty of communication, sounds like a different type of Adult Book.
Alexis and Connor are both leery of falling in love, preferring to keep things casual. From their very first meeting it is evident that casual is not going to work for them. I enjoyed watching them figure out how to do “relationship.” They worked together to get through their trials in life and relationship. Connor supports Alexis when her mom ends up in the hospital and her dad needs help. Alexis supports Connor while he is handling his brother, Cruz, and the issues that come with family.

I found Losing Enough to be a perfect read for me. It was fast paced, with plenty of heat and passion but yet real enough that is has love and hurt.

Thank you to Helen Boswell for sending me a copy to enjoy.

I must say that I read and enjoyed Helen's YA books, so when I found out she had written an adult contemporary romance, I wasn't sure what to expect. What I didn't expect was to be swept up in a gritty, sexy, and amazing read! This book reads nothing like her other books. I must say that I think this genre feels more real to me than her others--not that I didn't love those too. But this book is AMAZING!!! It pulled me in and didn't let me go until the end. The character development was fantastic, the writing tight, the romance hot, and the plot moved me forward, keeping me enthralled throughout the entire book. This book is a real winner, and I hope that Helen writes more in this series. I'll be looking for it!

I've been a fan of Helen Boswell since I read her Mythology series (Jonathan...dibs, fyi). Losing Enough was her first cross over into Contemporary Romance genre. Her transition from paranormal was flawless. This book has it all. If you're looking for high stakes and a roller coaster ride of emotions look no further. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Exciting, thrilling and sexy, Losing Enough is a new adult with some high stakes drama, and I loved it! Can I also just mention the cover? That cover is hot, and that man is phew sexy. If Connor looks anything like him...I'm all in.

With Alex, I adore her outgoing confidence that is never over the top. She knows what she wants and she's never afraid to say or do it. I like how she likes to let loose and have fun yet is also a big family girl. Family is always an important part of my life and I love to see main characters that have the same quality.

With Connor... Unf, unf, and more unf! When we first meet him, he's definitely comes off as confident and kind of a jerk. But, hey if you kept yourself closed off to everyone and everything for so long, you'd probably be that way too. I love watching him slowly change and become the sexy fella he is. Plus the blue eyes...total killer. I loved him and Alex together, they were just so perfect for each other.

Overall, I really liked this book. I liked the fact that is mixes sexiness with suspense, it made me like the story that much more. Losing Enough covered everything I look for in a new adult book and I truly enjoyed it!

Boswell brings an exciting plot line to the new adult genre, and I enjoyed diving into Alex and Connor's stories in Losing Enough. I felt that Boswell did a wonderful job creating all of the characters in this book. Even the secondary characters were well thought out. :) Even though I had a few moments of "when are they going to get together," Boswell created awesome scenes with Alex and Connor becoming a couple. *high five Helen!* If you are longing for a new adult romance with a fresh storyline, Losing Enough is worth your time.

I guess this kinda counts as an DNF. I read the first half and then just skipped to the end.
This book was sooooo boring and just badly written. Nothing felt authentic and every character was over-exaggerated. The main couple went from zero to 100 very quickly and then became cheesy. I couldn't understand Connor. The author wrote him as a very grumpy loner guy (kinda unlikeable) and then we are supposed believe he is very charming with Maya. That "sweetheart" banter with Maya and his come-on lines felt weird coming from him. I really liked the Las Vegas setting and the fact that Connor was a bouncer at a club (that turned out to be not really true) but everything else was so uninteresting, especially those damn subplots. What was the point? Also, every time I read this book I started to fall asleep; so I think that was a sign to give up on it. Pity.
