I love trees. They shade you on a sunny afternoon. They provide branches for the birds to build their nests. They stand tall and straight, reaching up to the sky. Children can climb trees or attach swings to their limbs. Some trees provide nourishment in the form of fruit or nuts for animals and humans.

In Author Eliza Earsman’s poetic book, A FALLEN TREE, we meet Harry, an old oak tree, living in the open spaces with sheep and lambs. Harry grows older, as is the way of life. He still gives shelter to the animals and plants. Also, as in life, Harry grows weaker with age, unable to withstand the cold and rain and freezing temperatures as he once could when he was young. I’ll stop there to keep from giving away the plot and let you read the story for yourself.

The author has written a beautiful tale about the life cycle of nature that also relates to humans and all animal life. Lovely illustrations by Artist Steve Daniels bring a nostalgic effect to the story. When you’re in the mood for a quick read pick up a copy of A FALLEN TREE. This would also make a good addition to elementary school libraries and for science classes.
