Two stars because I finished it despite my growing hatred for the main character. I have very little tolerance for plots that would fall apart if the main characters had one conversation. The book starts out interestingly, but Alex, the FMC, is so narcissistic and annoying it lost me at the halfway point. First she refuses for half the book to have any kind of relationship with James, then literally does a 180 in one sentence and is all in. She consistently misreads her visions for the worst possible interpretation and never bothers to HAVE A CONVERSATION with James to clear up any misunderstandings. She literally leaves him with no warning because she misinterprets a vision. Honestly James deserves someone better than this chick.

This right here made me want to hurl my kindle.

“I didn’t leave you because I don’t love you. I left you because I do love you. I know I screwed everything up, and I’ll leave if you want me to, but I just had to say it. I love you. I will always love you. And I will regret hurting you until the day I die.”

Imagine if you had taken the five minutes to TALK to the person you claim to love instead of LEAVING. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I don’t typically write reviews, but let’s give this a go… I couldn’t find the right place to put this down over the course of two days or so, and that’s the mark of a good story! The opening scene is a promise that the author delivers on and then some. If you’re looking for a fun adventure tale with good world-building wrapped in a satisfying romance, you’re in the right place, my friend.

Working to save lives before disaster strikes would already be tricky. But when you have visions of the future and see yourself sleeping with your partner (who can sense when you’re having said visions), it gets more complicated. And so much fun to read!

I enjoyed the dynamic between Alex and James and the set-up of the Paranormal Agency. I haven’t read much Urban Fantasy Romance, mostly Epic Fantasy or Modern Romance, but this book surprised me in a good way (read it in two days). It gave me a bit of Charmed vibes, where people with abilities are among us, trying to save lives (sans angels/demons/spells).

P.S. I heard the next book will focus on badass Diana Grey and her Shadow. Can’t wait!

I have a huge soft spot for first novels, and this is no exception. The unusual take on supernatural romance/urban fantasy by focusing on real people (complete with flaws and attitudes) who have extraordinary powers outside of the vampire/werewolf/zombie arena was intriguing and maintained my interest. Once I got into it, it was a quick read, and I'm curious to see what happens in this universe in the next book.

My favorite character has to be Alex's mom, though. I could *hear* her as I was reading.

This book has it all: great story, interesting characters, mystery, supernatural forces, romance…it’s hard to put down once you start reading.
The best part is the promise/tease of the books to come in the series! Looking forward to the next book and learning more about a Diana…

I read this a few weeks back and can honestly say the story is not very memorable. The premise was good and the supernatural power system was interesting. The book also grabbed me real quick because it opens with an investigator who has to work with a partner she sees a sexy vision with him. Her visions are of the future she just doesn't know when in the future. This means she suffers a lot from reacting to things too soon and bumbling parts of the mission. The plot eventually gets solved but it's definitely a lot of filler that wasn't necessary especially at the end. I'll probably read the second book at some point cause some side characters were quite interesting in the world.

Do NOT start reading this fabulous book late at night if you have any intention of getting some sleep!
Is the gift of clairvoyance a blessing or a burden? Lisa J. Morgan spins a tale that explores this conundrum with skill and humor. The characters, their relationships, and all the plot twists keep you turning the page, and eager for the next book in the series. SHATTERED is, indeed, a good read.

No matter how Talent-ed (or superpowered) people are, they always find ways to mess up their lives. This is true for our hero, Alex, in Shattered as well. She takes the weight of the world on her shoulders and gets really in her head about things. Relatable, even if you don't have visions of future events.
This book is a great combination of compelling characters with rich chemistry, a tense plot that keeps you on edge and excellent writing. Add in an ensemble of secondary characters who I hope to read about in the future, and I'm hooked. :)

This is a fun paranormal romance with engaging characters and a great set-up. Our protagonist works for a Secret Agency that helps avert tragedies predicted by her precognition visions. There are other talents who chip in -- teleporters, telekinetics, etc. She is paired with a top telempath (he reads emotions) as they go undercover to try to figure out where an incident she keeps seeing with several famous people (pop singer, ambassador, senator) will take place. We obviously recognize him as the love interest because 1) she has a vision of them having really hot sex and 2) they instantly fight with each other.

I struggled a bit with the man. His behavior towards her often veered towards workplace sexual harassment, but I finally got over myself because this book doesn't take itself that seriously (Doyle reason) and I figure he's probably coming from a weird place (Watson reason). His actions were mostly heroic and good, and since he spends his entire career being bombarded with the lust from most of his coworkers (he's really hot although he tries to act like a jerk to calm people down) he might not realize that what he is doing is skeevy -- she keeps getting visions of them having great sex, and he keeps asking for more details.

The plot moved along well, with both people getting to show off their skills and take turns being awesome. They actually talk about some of their issues (in a realistic way) and then jump into bed -- the sexual tension was high and really pays off here.

Unfortunately there is the final dumb misunderstanding that drags down the end of the book, which is too bad because the plot stuff happening around there is a lot of fun. But she has to hold an amazing large idiot ball to justify the misunderstanding. I almost pulled a star over it, but left the fourth one because it was emotionally consistent and I figure it's harder to avoid genre conventions at the start of a series. But I wish the author had come up with something else, or at least set it up so the protagonist didn't suddenly seem like a complete idiot. Like, it's okay to have emotional blind spots, but she also had to ignore professional stuff to make that mistake, and she was good at that stuff up till then.

Anyway, fun fast read, good plot, sexy characters, and I'll be looking for the next book.

Here is my spoiled gripe about the final relationship twist, because I hate them with a passion and they are in like 80% of romances.

I received a advanced copy of this book for review.

I could not put this book down! Lisa J. Morgan took me on a wild and wonderful ride. I started by being intrigued with the premise: human beings with paranormal powers and how they interact, and found myself pulled along by details, drama and a terrific narrative. If this is Morgan's debut novel, I can't wait to read the next installment.

2.5 ⭐️ This is probably closer to 2 stars but I rounded up because of the potential the story had.

This was a quick read of which I skimmed frequently throughout.

My main issue with this book was the heroine. She talks herself up a lot. Like she’s had all this specialized training and is one of the agency’s best assets, and has gone on many undercover operations…yet she does not know how to pretend to be married while on her current undercover operation. The hero is literally having to explain to her how to act and why…so they don’t blow their cover lol it was absolutely ridiculous.

And I felt like the two main characters chose some of the most inopportune times to do things. Like in the middle of this big mission, they decided to hook up for the first time. I’m talking sneaking away, butt naked, slow and sensual hooking up. It really took away from the importance of the mission they had been gearing up for the whole first half of the book. It was especially frustrating because of her whole backstory/sobstory. That scene just did not make sense so I skipped it.

And don’t even get me started on the heroines self importance, might I even say narcissism. She literally thinks she’s the reason for everything, good or bad. It got annoying after a while.

After some reconsideration I had to reduce my rating to a 2 because this heroine was just a straight up mess and didn’t make sense with the whole storyline.

I took the recommendation for this book seriously, but I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it. Things that are self-described as romances usually don't grip me, but the other elements around this were interesting enough to me, especially since it was a Kindle Unlimited book.

I would probably more round down to a 3.5 as a more accurate score of what I would give this book. The plot threads didn't feel like they progressed... at a normal rate. What you'd normally expect to be the end of the plot was at around the 60% mark, and there was a bit at that point in the book that felt too condensed and too fast. Then more things happened, and I am not sure how much of that was necessary. It mostly felt like an unnecessary bit that was tacked on and didn't actually accomplish much. Some of it was cool. Some of it wasn't cool, or at least felt like it didn't belong. I am luke-warm on this book. But I might check out the next one because it doesn't cost me anything. It comes down to how much I feel like dealing with a prequel story, because that's what the synopsis appears to be.

I give this book a solid "meh".

Edited to change my score from a "4 star" to a "3 star". The more I thought about certain details from this story, the more irritated I became. I can't keep a 4 star review for a book that I react to that way.

This was so good!

If you're a fan of Nalini Singh's Psy Changeling series, or Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld, pick this up now!
---
Alex is a buttoned up pre-cog working for Grey Raven (a sort of paranormal FBI). She never let's her emotions get in the way of the job, UNTIL .... she's assigned to work a case with James, a devastatingly handsome empath, who of course can sense every emotion she's hiding. When Alex starts to get visions of a future relationship with James in addition to visions of the case their supposed to be solving, she has to decide if she really does want to change the future.
---
This was such a fun, fast paced read - especially from a first time author. I couldn't put it down. The enemies to lovers trope (light here) is a favorite for me. James and Alex manage to stay likeable even as they're stepping on each other's toes. The spy portion of the novel was maybe better developed than the characters - a really fun mystery to get sucked into.

If I had one wish - it would have been nice to spend more time with James and Alex BEFORE the action hits! I was missing a little of their emotional origins.

Highly recommend picking up! I can't wait for the next book in this world!

Exploring Bodies and Minds With a Backdrop of Constant Adventure

If thoughts and emotions can be manipulated, can you ever trust your feelings? Lisa J. Morgan sets the stage in a world where the future is fungible, feelings are bendable, and your very thoughts and memories are up for grabs. In a non-stop adventure you find out how this affects the world of crime, entertainment, spycraft, and — most importantly — love and relationships.

How can you be with someone in the present if you keep catching glimpses of your future? How can you let your guard down when you are constantly overwhelemd by the emotions of everyone around you? Alex and James must navigate these questions while exploring their intense feelings for each other. Oh, and also, they are partnered up to stop a major disaster, shot at, kidnapped, discover various conspiracies, and have a few other things to deal with that tend not to come up in typical couples’ counseling.

Highly recommend for a genre-bending, pulse-quickening, and mind-altering read.

This book was interesting. I liked the plot (very X-Men without the costumes and more tangable abilities). I'm a smut lover so this gave me Colleen Hoover smut vibes, it wasn't heavy in the details of the spice when it occurred but I did love how "spent" they got of either other ( bedisde gallons of water required, lol). The thing I struggled with is at times I felt like I was being told the story instead of shown what was going on in the book. I couldn't really grasp what the lead characters looked, but that might have just been me. I know they were hot and hot for each other, so that's a win. Sometimes I wanted to punch the female lead for not thinking higher of yourself as a person, but this was also very relatable so I guess I should punch myself. Lastly, I slightly annoyed everything took place in a span of roughly 2 weeks I think, but when you are gifted and you know, you know so why wait. It was a great book for a first author and self published. I definetly enjoyed this recommended book.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I first experienced the book through the audiobook. The pacing of the story usually made me loathe to go into work (more than usual!) because I didn’t want to leave the world Ms. Morgan has graced us with. I’m not usually a big fan of romance, but I found that this book did a good job entwining the romance and the thriller plots so that the book needs both to work, and I found myself looking forward to the romance scenes more than I thought I would! However, the thriller is what brought me to the book, and it did not disappoint. I found the pacing to be well done, and this is one of the best sendups of the “paranormal talent agency” I’ve had the pleasure of reading since I first read Anne McCaffrey’s To Ride Pegasus”. Overall, I enjoyed the story immensely, and enough that I bought the book in physical form as well. Like other reviewers, I also am looking forward to the sequel and learning more about Ms. Morgan’s compelling characters!

My wife LOVED this book. She couldn’t put it down. Any chance she had during her busy day she was reading it. She told me that the storyline really grabbed her and ticked off the romance, adventure, mystery, and paranormal boxes that she looks for in a good read. She was so wrapped up in the characters that when she was finished she said that she missed her fictional friends. She can’t wait for the next book in the series. There’s nothing like the feeling you get when a book really grabs you right from the off and holds you straight until the end. I’m happy she found a book (extra yay that it’s a series) that did that for her. Everyone should have such a good read, and you can because this book is it.

Normally, romance isn’t my go-to, but “Shattered” is something else! It’s a book where relatable characters and a recognizable world meet interesting and believable paranormal elements.

The author does a great job showing the real, messy parts of love and life, making it easy to connect with the characters. It’s a spicy, fun read that’s over before you know it, leaving you wanting more!

Whether or not you’re a fan of romance, “Shattered” is worth checking out for a quick, exciting adventure filled with love and surprises. Can’t wait to see what comes next from this author!

Great start. Wonderful new author

I read every type of book imaginable. I don't have a specific genre that I stick to, but I haven't read paranormal much lately. I'm glad I found this book and new author. The story grabs you from the very beginning and never lets go. It really is an amazing story set in an amazing world. I will definitely be keeping a look out for more books from this author. She has a style of writing that brings her world to life in vivid detail. Even if you are not a fan of paranormal romance, I think you will enjoy this book

I'm not sure I've ever read a book where I simultaneously liked the FMC and wanted to poke her in the eye. Great angst and character. The overall story was good, I liked the plot at the world the author is building. The second book in the series appears to take us back in time to introduce and tell the love story of a couple of other characters. I'm less intrigued by them so I will likely skip and move to the third book, with another character that was introduced in this book - she was intriguing to me so looking forward to that story.

Shattered had me at page 5. I couldn’t put it down. If you like to read Ilona Andrew’s, you’ll enjoy Shattered. The book brings together a smart plot with entertaining repartee between the love interests, clairvoyant Alex and empath James. Lisa J Morgan’s fluid style makes it a fast read. I hope they make a movie of this story. Has the vibes of a fantasy version of James Bond. Can’t wait for book 2.

This book was amazing!! It had me from the first page and continued to the last page. The characters are great and you get so invested in them and hate for the book to end. I haven't been in a reading mood lately, but once I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. I took the book everywhere with me and any time I had a chance I was reading (example - waiting in the carpool line to pick up my granddaughter :) ) I cannot wait for the second book to come out.

A great romance premise, clairvoyant and empath, that made most of the book riveting. I liked the world, full of people with a variety of psychic powers. The first 2/3 of the book was a compelling secret-agent adventure, but the last part of the book wasn’t as interesting.

The main adventure plot was setup to fully resolve in a future book, but the next book looks to be a prequel about other people in the agency.

This was a wonderful book, the story was wonderful! I had a terrible time putting this book down. Alex is a strong Precog and she has a terrifying vision where lots of people die, she works for a secret organization with other paranormal's that try to help the world. She is partnered with a very strong Empath to prevent this from happening.
It was a wild ride, I never knew what was happening next! I just loved this story and hope there will be more to the story.

I don’t usually read this genre but I’m so glad I did! It drew me in from the start, and I was swept up in the story. Lisa J. Morgan has created a world of supernatural characters, using their powers to save lives. The tension between the main characters was steamy. I really enjoyed this book, and am very much looking forward to reading more from Lisa. So many more characters to explore.
