A mysterious old house, an unforgettable romance and a lost granddaughter escaping to the stunning Irish coast…
Lily Fleury used to love visiting her eccentric grandmother Sylvia in Ireland, taking long sunset walks on the beach and exploring the nooks and crannies of the family’s old home Magnolia Manor. But when she arrives from Dublin broken-hearted, hoping to heal in Sylvia’s warm embrace, she finds the once ornate Georgian house in disrepair and the gardens wildly overgrown. Sylvia has always been fiercely independent, but Lily can’t believe she hasn’t told anyone she’s been struggling.
Lily knows she can’t leave until she gets Sylvia back on her feet. Although mysterious local builder Dominic agrees to help, from the moment Lily looks into his fierce green eyes they clash over how to fix the sprawling estate. It’s only when she hears the soft Irish lilt of his voice as he sings in the local pub that their arguments ignite a spark of passion neither can ignore…
But when Lily finds a trunk of tattered letters in the gatehouse, she discovers a devastating secret Sylvia has been hiding about Magnolia Manor. And she soon learns the real reason Dominic agreed to help out. Lily wanted to save her family home, and could see a life here with Dominic, but will the truth force her to leave the man who has captured her heart and never return?
Fans of Mary Alice Monroe, Sheila O’Flanagan and Debbie Macomber will fall head over heels for this gorgeous, feel-good new series set on the stunning windswept beaches of the west coast of Ireland.
Susanne O’Leary is the bestselling author of more than 30 novels, mainly romantic fiction set in Ireland. Her many books set in County Kerry have been hugely popular with readers all over the world. She shares her time between Dublin and Kerry, where she and her husband have a little cottage near the beach. The wild, beautiful landscape, the small villages and the friendly people of that county have inspired her to write her feel-good stories. She's been inspired to represent people of all ages and walks of life, with lots of romance, and more than a dash of humour.
When she is not writing or reading by the fire, Susanne loves heading for the great outdoors, walking on the beaches or scaling the green hills of her favourite county.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret by Susanne O’Leary is the first book of the new contemporary romance Magnolia Manor series. As with a lot of romance series the Magnolia Manor series is one that changes the main characters in each new book of the series with the setting in this particular series tying them together so they all can be read as a standalone or even in any order if choosing to do so.
It’s been a few years since Lily Fleury made the from Dublin to visit her eccentric grandmother Sylvia at the family’s old home, Magnolia Manor. Nursing a broken heart Lily has had thoughts of returning home and living with Syliva for good but when she arrives Lily finds that Magnolia Manor is in quite a state of disrepair that she never expected and wonders why Sylvia didn’t reach out.
Lily wants nothing more than to dive right in and help her grandmother get the home fixed up so when she meets Dominic, a local builder, she is hopes for his help. Sylvia however hadn’t let Lily in on the secret she’s been holding onto and once Lily finds out she and her sister vow to help with Magnolia Manor anyway they can.
Susanne O’Leary is an author that has quite an extensive catalog of books and I’ve read quite a few of them over the years enjoying them all. One major appeal to this author is the beautiful remote seaside Irish settings in which her books are set and this new series had that same appeal. For I believe the first time reading one of her quick romantic reads however while I still enjoyed the setting in this one I wasn’t as excited over the characters or more specifically some of their actions were sort of driving me up a wall in here. Probably just me since I’ve always loved the rest I’ve read from this author but this one ended at the it was ok but not amazing level for me.

Lily Fleury has returned to her family home of Magnolia Manor. In the process of hoping to rebuild her life, she has an upcoming job interview. More than that, Lily has a mission. Her first concern is her 82-year-old grandmother Sylvia. Something is going on, either with Sylvia or the Manor itself. Sylvia is a busy woman with a lot of social engagements. A legend.
Although eager to start her new job, Lily set boundaries. These boundaries reflect on her past job in the marriage that she had that ended in divorce. Working for her new boss Wolfie could be a good thing, if not a little bit stressful. She’s definitely up for the challenge.
Lily confides in her sister Rose, especially as she begins her new job and also begins what might become an emotional entanglement. However, her former marriage leaves her with the caution of exposing her heart yet again. Meanwhile, there is more Lily has in mind for Magnolia Manor.
Lily is concerned that something strange is going on and she intends on having her grandmother tell her what on earth it is. First, her grandmother was resistant to her staying there, and now Lily hopes to get her troubled grandmother to confide in her.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret is the delightful first book in the Magnolia Manor series. This warm and inviting story really drew me to Lily and the next two books will have Rose and Violet's stories, with Rose's coming next. Also, keep in mind the title of this book as you try to guess the secret and who the keeper is.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
I'm dying to move to an old manor on the Irish coast after reading this book. The setting sounded absolutely breathtaking, and the nearby town was darling. I honestly enjoyed the story about the manor itself as much as the story of Lily and Dominic. The history combined with the ladies' entrepreneurial vision was lovely. Overall, it was a delightful read!
I received a copy of this audiobook from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own and I am writing a voluntary review.
Magnolia manor is the ancestral home of Lily Fleury and her sisters. Their grandmother Sylvia still lives there and when Lily finds herself divorced and with a broken heart she heads to the manor to stay with her grandmother and lick her wounds. But her welcome is not exactly what she was expecting, the manor is showing sign of neglect and her grandmother does not really want her to stay for long. Lily discovers a secret about the ownership of the manor and is horrified that it might not still belong to her family. This upsets all the plans she and her sisters had for the manor in turning it into a wedding venue to create cash flow. Lily also meets a handsome engineer who knows the house well and peaks her interest romantically, something she never thought would happen again. The story is not overly dramatic and the secret was not all that shocking so I was a bit disappointed in that. It's a nice easy read that works out well in the end. Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for a chance to listen/read an ARC version of this book. 3 solid stars.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC audiobook of The Keeper of the Irish Secret.
Lily Fleury has returned to her family home of Magnolia Manor only to find that her grandmother, Sylvia has let the manor fall apart. Lily soon realizes that her grandmother is hiding quite a few secrets that she isn't willing to share. Lily meets a local carpenter/singer named Dominic who has helped Sylvia with little projects here and there.
Lily soon uncovers the secret that they family may not own the beloved manor. Turns out her great, great grandfather had a gambling problem and had bet his home. Sylvia had received a letter from the gentleman's son who wanted the property. Lily and her two sisters desperately search for the deed and information.
What a beautiful story, set in Ireland. I lo Ed the way the story unfolded and just carried you along. I was totally engrossed in it and was sad when I finished it. Seeing that it's book one I can't wait to read book two. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret is the first book in the Magnolia Manor series by Susanne O'Leary. Lily Fleury loved visiting her grandmother Sylvia in Ireland, taking long sunset walks on the beach and exploring the nooks and crannies of the family’s old home Magnolia Manor. Now that her marriage has ended, she applies for a job near the Manor and plans to heal there in her grandmother's arms, but finds a surprise when she arrives. Magnolia Manor is in disrepair and the gardens wildly overgrown. Sylvia is obviously struggling and she has told no one. Lily decides to stay and help Sylvia get back on her feet. She meets Dominic, a local builder, is helping Sylvia, but Lily is worried they will not agree on what needs to be done. When he hears him sing at the pub, she is smitten. When Lily finds papers in an old trunk in the gatehouse where she is staying, she finds out that her grandmother has a secret that could cause major changes in Magnolia Manor.
This was an easy, enjoyable story with a little bit of family drama and history, some romance, and new beginnings. I loved the setting and the characters we meet at the manor and in the nearby town. Lily is starting over, and is lucky to land a job at a local lawyer's office. It gives her the opportunity to spend time with her grandmother. She has two sisters, who all come to stay and play a small part in the story, Rose and Violet. The sisters have plans for the Manor, as it will come to them, but Sylvia has other ideas. There is some drama between the girls and their grandmother, but it was realistic and I loved that she didn't take anything from them. There are a couple of romances, Lily and Dominic being one, and I liked them together. All does not go smoothly and it may or may not work out for them. Even Sylvia meets someone that will give her a bit of a romantic relationship in her twilight years. There are two more books with each of the sisters front and center in them, and another coming out later this year. I am looking forward to reading the rest in this series. If you enjoy a book with a beautiful setting, clean romance, family relationships and an uplifting story, then I recommend The Keeper of the Irish Secret.
**I received an advanced listening copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
I greatly enjoyed listening to this quiet novel set in Ireland. There are elements of mystery and romance as Lily, the main character, returns to her ancestral home and helps her grandmother uncover some damaging secrets. She's also nursing a broken heart, and as the novel progresses, it is good to see her come to terms with her heartache and begin her life anew. The voice actress was wonderful, though I may have enjoyed listening to the Irish accent the most.
This is the first in a new series, and I hope to listen to more by the author and from this series. A great way to escape from reality for a little bit of time.
Lily is heading back to Dublin, Ireland to her family home. She absolutely loved the time she would spend there, as a child, at her grandmother Sylvia’s house. She has fond memories of walks on the beach, and exploring Magnolia Manor, like it was yesterday. When she arrives at Magnolia Manor, she sees how dilapidated it has become, with its overgrown gardens and unkept house in need of repair. Sylvia is “well-to-do” so the condition of Magnolia Manor takes Lily by surprise. Lily takes on some of the repairs but can’t seem to keep up with them all. While rummaging through the gatehouse she discovers a trunk full of old letters. After reading through the letters, she uncovers a devastating family secret that Sylvia has been hiding about the family home.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret written by Susanne O’Leary is a heartwarming and beautifully written story. O’Leary always pens wonderful and inspiring stories that literally plants your feet firmly on the Irish coast. I felt the breeze in my face and heard the waves lapping the shore and was mesmerized by the beautiful water. I forgot where I was, for a period of time. This book read like a movie in my mind. I loved everything about this story as it hit all the feels. I am so over the moon happy that this is the first book in a brand new series. I loved every character in this story and I can’t wait for book two, Rose’s story. If you want to be transported to Ireland and fall in love with an Irish family near and far, this is the book for you. This is an absolutely unforgettable, captivating and unputdownable story that I highly recommend. Do yourself a favor and immediately put this book on top of your to be read pile. Ten stars for this one.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret is the first book in a new series - the Magnolia Manor series - and looks set to be just as much fun as Susanne’s previous books. Magnolia Manor, in Dingle, County Kerry, has been in the Fleury family for generations but has fallen into disrepair. The three granddaughters, Lily, Rose and Violet, have grand plans for the large Georgian house, but first, they need to persuade their grandmother that it’s a good idea!
I loved all the characters in Susanne’s new book. From the outset, both Lily and Dominic had a place in my heart and I was rooting for them the whole way through. In particular, I really want to go and live in Dominic’s house on the beach with its great view of the Atlantic Ocean! I enjoyed the quirky, eccentricity of Wolfie’s character and I think he’d be such a fun man to work for!
I love reading books set in Ireland and as I’m reading them; I try to do the accent in my head! I’m looking forward to the next book in the Magnolia Manor series, which will tell Rose’s story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review The Keeper of the Irish Secret by Susanne O’Leary.
Beautifully written a lovely book. Loved the setting, and Magnolia Manor sounds fascinating. Lovely characters, Lily, Dominic, Rose, Violet and their grandmother, and Nora , they all are wonderful. Family and relationships are defined thoroughly. A sweet and easy to read, relaxing book. Would love to read next in the series, Rose's story. Highly recommended. Thanks to #Netgalley and #Bookouture for the eARC.
Lily is headed back to her Granny and Magnolia Manor. Still reeling from her divorce, she’s just looking for a job and spending time in her family home. It’s a nice feel good book that I instantly connected with. It was like a Hallmark movie in a book. It’s book one in a new series so I’m looking forward to reading the next one.
In this book we meet the Fleury sisters. Lily, Rose and Violet. Along with their Grandmother Sylvia. Lily arrives at Magnolia Manor after recently divorcing. She is mending a broken heart and hoping to heal and convince her Grandmother that her and her sisters should develop Magnolia Manor, She is shocked to find that not only is Magnolia Manor more run down than they all realised but her Grandmother is hiding a secret, With Sylvia being so secretive and reluctant to have Lily stay, she begins to investigate and slowly uncovers the secret and works with her Grandmother and sisters to solve the problem
Lily amd Sylvia initially come across as strong independent women but unfortunately soon fall for the charms of the men who come into their lives and very quickly tell them all their secrets and lean on them for help. It was all very twee and romanticised. I couldn’t believe how quickly they were sharing their secrets and relying on these men. Especially Lily after the description of how badly she had been hurt by her ex. Although when she finally told Dominic (her love interest) the story of her marriage I was dumbfounded by her earlier comments of the hard time she had, had and her trust issues. I thought the ex had been abusive. He had married her for her money and dumped her when he realised she had none.
The accents were laughable, especially the male ones. It almost felt comical at times listening.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this, my 1st by this author
I just finished listening to "The Keeper of the Irish Secret" by Susanne O'Leary, narrated by Aoife McMahon. It was delightful from the very first word. The book swept me away to the idyllic countryside of Ireland with its breathtaking descriptions. After listening to this great book, I wish my planned trip to the UK next month would have included a visit to Ireland. It's a heartwarming and exquisitely written story, skillfully weaving together elements of mystery and romance within a compelling family drama featuring wonderful characters and a captivating storyline.
Lily Fleury arrives from Dublin, broken-hearted, to start a new job and a new life after her marriage breakdown. She and her two sisters, Rose and Violet, have always had plans for the future of their childhood home, Magnolia Manor.
Their 82-year-old grandmother, Sylvia Fleury, lives in Magnolia Manor, but as time goes by, the upkeep becomes too much for her and the place is not looking its best. Sylvia is keeping many secrets from her granddaughters, but her biggest fear is losing the manor, the only home she has known since she got married.
Dominic is the town's local handyman, but he also has many other talents, like being a great singer at some of the local pubs around the area. Nora has been working for the family for many years and efficiently manages housekeeping duties for Sylvia, ensuring the manor remains a delightful home.
Lovely setting, but very little substance/depth. I couldn’t connect with any of the main characters. What irritated me with the storyline was, first, that Sylvia’s granddaughters assumed they had the right to make plans for Magnolia Manor, their grandmother’s home. Second, that another character, a licensed engineer, apparently had no qualms about doing something unethical on behalf of a client. Trivial, I know…LOL
Lily Fleury came home to small town Ireland after a painful divorce. Her family's manor was in disrepair and held a secret upsetting her grandmother. This book got high reviews, but I thought it was too simple and tied up. She could have skipped the last couple of chapters. I found myself rolling my eyes quite a bit toward the end.
I loved this book. Everything about it! The characters, the setting, the lovely descriptions of the beautiful setting in Ireland! It was an easy and delightful read. Highly recommended.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret – Magnolia Manor Book 1 is another fabulous enchanting start to a new series by Susanne O’Leary. I love stories about old houses and old estates and the charm they exude but even more the secrets they harbour and pass on to future generations. If their stones or timber could speak, what stories would they reveal? Susanne O’Leary’s upcoming new series does just that. It brings the Magnolia Manor’s history to the forefront in a most delightful and creative way. Love and mystery are intertwined, making this a perfect fascinating pager turner!
Lily Fleury has come through a difficult divorce after a short marriage and seeks refuge and renewal. She leaves her legal secretary job in Dublin and heads to her grandmother Sylvia’s Manor to soak up the positive vibes and heal her broken heart. What better place to do that but on the breathtaking Irish coast where she connects again with nature and engages once more in her passion for running and cycling. Upon arrival, she discovers the house is in disrepair. But she has a dream: a business she wants to incorporate into the old homestead once renovating it with the help of family and friends. Of course, nothing runs the way expected and her grandmother’s odd behaviour has her worried. What secret is she keeping? We eventually learn what that is and that it is a major problem for Lily’s future plans. But in the meantime, her find in the gatehouse fuels a mission to uncover the truth and her fight for her family's heritage will take her down some unexpected avenues.
Lily meets Dominic who is doing a survey of the old house to see what it needs. Although Lily is attracted to this local builder and Irish singer, she becomes suspicious of his involvement in her family’s affairs when she stumbles across some information. There’s lots here to make you wonder if he is honest or playing for the opposing side. Without saying too much and giving anything away, I can confirm his activity poses enough questions and intrigue to keep the pages turning.
I truly enjoyed the character of Sylvia and her focus on seniors’ needs. Sylvia herself is a feisty eighty-two year old widow who certainly knows from experience what those her age range want and she offers a great solution to help her fellow seniors. Along the way of her journey in sorting out her Manor issues, she meets a Frenchman who could be a great match for her. Again, her granddaughter Lily questions his motives (as she does with Dominic). This is understandable for Lily is the oldest of her siblings and the one everyone looks up to for advice. But is she overstepping in this case? We will see whether love or deception is behind the actions. As for romance, I am delighted to say this novel covers a multitude of ages and although there are lots of personality bumps and emotional bruises along the way, the matches and end results are satisfying.
With The Keeper of the Irish Secret, Susanne captivates us with her stunning Irish setting, warm writing style, delightful cast, and fun historical family mystery. Reading this novel, like her others, is like returning to visit a much loved friend. She addresses familiar issues and puts new spins on solving the problems. I love this start to the new series and look forward to more stories that will pass through the Magnolia Manor doors. Susanne knows how to tell a great story and she is one of those constant-return-to-favourite-authors for me. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review for 'The Keeper Of The Irish Secret' by Susanne O'Leary.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Susanne O'Leary, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 25th January 2024
This is the sixth book I have read by this author. It is also the first book in the 'Magnolia Manor' series. I have previously read 'The Lost Girls Of Ireland' which is the first book in the 'Starlight Cottages' series and seventh in the 'Sandy Cove' series, 'The Lost Secret Of Ireland' which is the second book in the 'Starlight Cottages' series and eighth book in the 'Sandy Cove' series, 'The Lost Promise Of Ireland' which is the ninth book in the 'Sandy Cove' series and the third book in the 'Starlight Cottages' series, 'The Lost House Of Ireland' which is the fourth book in the 'Starlight Cottages' and 'The Lost Letters Of Ireland' series which is the fifth book in the 'Starlight Cottages' series. All of these books can also be read as a standalone and I highly recommend each and every one of them! This novel consists of 28 chapters and an epilogue The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
OMG! OMG!! I cannot remember the last time I was so gutted to come to the end of a book!! Well done Susanne you have done it yet again!!!! I absolutely fell in love and it genuinely felt like I was packing my bags and being whisked away from my Irish holiday when I read the last page. Absolutely gorgeous!!!
The book is so well written with its stunning and vivid descriptions that I genuinely felt that I was standing with Edwina throughout feeling the Irish breeze in my hair and smelling the ocean. The synopsis and cover suited the storyline perfectly.
I absolutely LOVED Susanne's 'Sandy Cove' and 'Starlight Series' so when I realised this was a brand new series with brand new characters I was not sure what I was feeling. I was sad as I realised I wouldn't meeting some of my old favourites again, concerned that with the last series being SO amazing that there was no way Suzanne could create a series that was just as good and at the same time excited to travel to a new area in Ireland and meet new characters. Well, ladies and gentleman I am absolutely shocked to admit (and this does NOT go back to my partner or I WONT hear the end of it!!) that I was w r o n g!!!!!! How on Earth I could doubt Susanne's amazing talented ability to ensure I fall in love with another area, more characters and another one of her STUINNING series I have no idea because YES SUSANNE A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS yet again you have blown it out of the water and YET AGAIN have left me needing more of Magnolia Manor, the Fleury family (and others) and the Dingle Peninsula!!!! Another absolutely stunning MUST READ feel good, heart warming and epic escapism that will sweep you off your feet and land you in the beautiful Ireland. I haven't been to Ireland for many years but reading this took me back there in a blink of an eye and I was devastated when I came to the end, unpacked my "suitcase" and returned to rainy Wales!!! If you ever need a sofa holiday then Susanne really is the go to author. Regardless which of her stunning books you pick up you will be left wanting more each time and enjoying a gorgeous break away. The storyline was filled with romance, stunning settings, love, secrets, friendship, strong women and family. It made me feel all bubbly inside and it had an air of mystery trying to work out what it was that a few characters were hiding or up to. There was plenty of laughter, hope, love, drama, and some tension and sadness mixed in. As always with Susanne's stunning books once I picked it up and read a sentence I was completely addicted and could not put it down, absolutely devouring it in one sitting so make sure you clear those diaries before you even peek into this stunner!! This book has absolutely everything you want in an Irish getaway. I loved the ending which is absolutely perfect and gives me yet another series to look forward to getting stuck into 🥂!! I always love it when I see a new book by Susanne as she is one of those authors who writes stunning books I know I am going to love!!! Clear your schedules before peeking at this stunning book and getting sucked into a beautiful, page turning story that will whisk you off on holiday in the stunning Dingle Peninsula!!
I am not going to go into too much details about the characters as I am actually trying to cut down the lengths of my reviews as I am aware that I tend to write alot and it may bore some reader's of my reviews. What i will say as that yet again Susanne has created an absolutely amazing and unique group of realistic, strong and relatable characters that, very quickly, felt like they were friends rather than fictional characters and I cannot wait to meet them all again!! They all had their own unique personalities. I wasn't only completely invested in the 4 strong Fleury women (and I LOVED the fact that there were such strong and amazing female leads) but I also fell in love with several of the other characters including Dominic, Nora and Martin and I cant forget the gorgeous dogs Vicky, Bunty, Princess and Larry. I am a MASSIVE animal lover so it is always a bonus when books include animals and these four sweethearts play big parts and I cannot wait to meet them all again along with all the fantastic human characters. The only character that did annoy me a bit was Violet with her attitude at the end. I found her to be a bit of a selfish brat in regards to how plans were going and her not being happy she wouldn't get her own way but I wont say any more about that. In fact, i will leave my review here as it seems that I have managed to write the same as always, so much for cutting down! Oh well, maybe next time!!! I will end by saying I cannot wait to return to this amazing series with these fantastic characters again!!
Susanne I fell in love with yet another of your heart warming, page turning and stunning books which took my heart away and left me gutted when my holiday ended. This is exactly why your on my favourite author list!! I have already added all your books on my wish lists and I cannot wait for my next Irish adventure!!! Please get these put on the big screen!! Here is to your next gorgeous success 🥂 Overall an absolutely stunning, heart warming romance that will have you heading off to Ireland in the blink of an eye.

A sweet book about thee girls and their grandmother, a crumbling house and a mystery. Take a broken heart and add it to the mix. A sweet story but I’m not sure that it grabbed me enough to read the next two books in the trilogy.
The Keeper of the Irish Secret by Susanne O’Leary is the promising start to a new series in which Sylvia Fleury was keeping a secret from her granddaughters. The manor might not be theirs. Their great grandfather might have lost it gambling nearly a century earlier. She was spending a lot of time looking for the deeds, as the family lawyer did not seem to have them and registration of deeds was relatively new.. Lily, her eldest granddaughter had arrived, apparently with a plan to stay, which made Sylvia nervous. Lily had a plan, too, to renovate the old manor and stay permanently. While there, Lily met a man, although she was in no way ready for one, Dominic. Dominic was the handyman. He was also a musician with a wonderful voice, she discovered one night in the pub. She also met Brian there, the barman whose grandmother had worked for her great-grandmother at the manor. This evening was to lead to many things, she discovered later.
Lily as divorced and had fled Dublin. She accepted a job in a one-lawyer office with Wolfgang Quinn, his mother had been German. He was the nicest man she had ever met, if the most disorganized. It took her several weeks to get the office organized and in shape. And he was still the nicest man she’d ever met. Dominic turned out to be more than a handyman. And Sylvia had plans for the manor, too. They were to host a community tea; it had been a ball in the past but they could no longer afford that, and Lily and her sisters were all in, making it the best it had ever been. But, potential trouble was on the horizon and Lily was worried. She was clever, as well as intelligent, but this was turning out to be too much. Then, on a dime, things changed. They discovered several, well, many things that could change the future. Susanne O’Leary has a knack for writing both light romance and light mystery. This is no exception, from the endearing characters, to the charming setting, this book had it all! Thanks!
I was invited to read The Keeper of The Irish Secret by Bookoutre. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Bookoutre #SusanneOLeary #TheKeeperOfTheIrishSecret
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of "The Keeper of the Irish Secret" in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first book in the Magnolia Manor series and as always Ms. O'Leary has written a beautiful story in South Kerry on the Dingle Peninsula. We meet Sylvia Fleury who came to Magnolia Manor as a young bride 60 years prior. She's planning the annual Magnolia Tea Party but there are secrets that threaten her existence in the house and the legacy that she plans for her granddaughters.
Her husband Liam and son Fred were killed in a sailing accident 25 years ago. Fred's 3 daughters Lily, Rose and Violet are all she has left of her family.
Lily has decided to move back home from Dublin but her grandmother doesn't seem happy about it and she feels that she's hiding something from them. Lily secures a job with Wolfgang Quinn as his legal secretary. The sisters have plans for the Manor. They want to restore it to its former glory and use the formal rooms for weddings and celebrations. The greenhouse could be a garden centre and café.
It seems that their great-grandfather Cornelius Fleury gave the manor and land to Etienne Bernard to pay for this gambling debts. They learn that Cornelius' wife Caroline hid the deeds to the manor to protect it. They have to find the deeds to prove ownership before the Bernard family tries to take over. All they know is that the deed is behind a tree that they have to take down and turn around. Sylvia also has dreams for the Manor, she wants to turn it into Senior Service Apartments where seniors can live independently yet be close to others and form friendships.
Readers will be delighted to learn who the keeper of the secret is and whether they will be able to save the Manor and keep it in the family. There are so many things that can still be discovered in this family so I'm looking forward to future books.
In Susanne O’Leary’s The Keeper of the Irish Secret, we follow Lily Fleury as she returns to her grandmother’s house, Magnolia Manor, in Dingle, County Kerry. This house, rich with family history and cherished memories, is a place of comfort for Lily, who is reeling from the pain of a recent divorce. However, at first sight of the manor, she is shocked to find it in dire need of repair. Concerned for her grandmother Sylvia, who has always meticulously cared for the property, Lily senses that something is very wrong.
From the very beginning, this story captivated me. Lily’s tumultuous life in Dublin, including a failed marriage and a frustrating job at a law firm, motivates her to leave behind to find a new job and a new purpose in Dingle. She embraces the challenges ahead, determined to find her family’s secrets. The secrets prevent Lily and her sisters, Rose and Violet, from sharing their plans to restore Magnolia Manor.
The familial bonds portrayed in this novel are heartwarming. The relationship between Lily, her sisters, and their grandmother Sylvia is beautifully depicted, showcasing the strength and love that binds them. Dominic, the mysterious figure who catches Lily’s eye, adds a layer of intrigue to the narrative. His secrets slowly unravel, making for an engaging subplot. Wolfie, Lily’s new boss, is also a wonderful character. His support and kindness make him the boss everyone wishes to have.
O’Leary’s vivid descriptions of Ireland transport the reader straight to the scenic landscapes of Dingle, allowing one to experience the charm and beauty of Irish culture and family life. This book is not just a story; it’s an experience. The characters are well-developed, the plot is engaging, and the setting is enchanting. The Keeper of the Irish Secret is a captivating tale I highly recommend for anyone looking to be transported to Ireland and fall in love with an endearing Irish family.
Book Title: The Keeper of Irish Secret Series: Magnolia Manor Author: Susanne O’Leary Format: 🎧 Narrator: Aolfe McMahon Publisher: Dreamscape Media Genre: Family Drama, Women’s Fiction Audiobook Pub Date: May 21, 2024 My Rating: 3.5 Stars Pages: 260
There is no doubt that I was drawn to this cover; although Ireland and not England, Magnolia Manor reminded me of Downton Abby. Lily Fleury her sisters Rose and Violet always love visiting their grandmother at Magnolia Manor near Dublin - walks on the beach, as well as exploring the Manor created many great memories. Lily is healing from a divorce and is looking forward to a job interview as well as seeing her eighty-two –year-old grandmother Sylvia. However, when she arrives at Magnolia Manor, she is surprised at its dilapidated condition. Lily has some great ideas regarding renovation of the Manor. It is so large it can easily be turned into a B&B, the garden would be perfect for wedding, She even contacts Dominic who has does other repairs etc for Grandmother. In the meantime, Lily is staying in the Gatehouse – which is charming but like the rest of the property needs repairs. When she is settling in she finds a trunk with old letters. Her curiously gets the best of her and she starts reading what looks like a journal – it appears Grandmother is hiding a family secret.
I have a suspicious nature so I thought one of the clues was easy to figure out. In fact, I found myself shouting look behind the . . . . . .
This was a nice enjoyable read. I love the ending and the characters plus the descriptions of the Ireland made me want to go!

The Keeper of the Irish Secret is a heartwarming family novel by Suzanne O'Leary set on the Irish Coast. It is the first in the Magnolia Manor trilogy. While listening to the audiobook version of the story, narrated by Aoife McMahon, I couldn’t help thinking it would make a great Hallmark movie. It possesses all the requirements: recently divorced woman moving “home” to mend her broken heart, handsome handyman who helps the woman heal, and a little family drama thrown into the mix.
Unlike many “Irish” stories these days featuring Americans who are researching their family roots or visiting Ireland to find more about where their grandparents grew up, this one features modern day Irish woman who were born and reared in Ireland. The story begins with Lily Fleury who’s lived in Dublin the past several years after getting married to a not so stellar guy. Needing a change of pace and to get away from all the bad memories, she moves in with her grandmother to Magnolia Manor, on the Dingle Peninsula. Once Lily arrives she finds her grandmother in turmoil over some bad news regarding the ownership of the manor dating back a few generations. The rest of the story involves Lily helping her grandmother resolve the issues regarding the manor and finding her peace with her decision to move back home.
As this is the first book is the first in the series, the other two books will probably center around Lily’s two sisters, both of whom make appearances in this one. Overall, I give the story 3 1/2 stars, and the narration 4 stars. In short, this audiobook is wonderful beginning to a delightful new series and I look forward to listening future books in the series!
This book is about the romance of Lily Fleury and Dominick Dunne and the fate of Magnolia Manor. This is set in Dingle Town in County Kerry at the windswept Magnolia Manor that has been in the family for generations and the fight to keep the manor in the family. This book is about how an estate can be gambled away 100 years before and won in a poker game. Magnolia Manor is run by Sylvia Fleury and her 3 granddaughters, Lily, Rose and Violet and it is about community and the power of family and their love for the old manor they used to live in. Lily, Rose and Violet have secret plans to renovate the manor when they find out that estate was given way as a gambling debt and they get a letter from the Etienne. Lily comes to recover from a bad divorce and gets a job at a law firm and comes home to rest and find a new life. She is a legal assistant and has a job interview. She is allowed to stay in the gate house temporally and Lily is all about order and helps Wolfgang Quinn organize his law practice while hoping to renovate the old run down estate. Sylvia helps Lily settle into the gate house and there is one last party before the estate is handed over and Lily needs to find the deed so that they can stay on the property. Dominic is a singer and structural engineer who helps Lily settle into town. Magnolia Manor is part of the plot. It is a quick read and has good character development and a good romance. It has Uncle Cornelius as a main character and is a nice read for one day if you need to be cheered up. It has a good plotline .
I had the audiobook read by Aoife McMahon. The narrator was the main reason for me choosing this title. I really like her accent, and performance. She does a good male voice, but not sure about her French accent.
Lily broken hearted goes to visit her eccentric grandmother Sylvia in her Manor House on the West coast of Ireland only to find it in a dilapidated state of repair. Lily is determined to try and rectify the situation. Then it appears that the ownership of the house is under threat. Sisters Lily and her sisters join forces in the fight to save their inheritance.
This is a light easy going slow build feel good gentle romance. True to form things don’t run smoothly. I felt that some of the red herrings were weak. A disclaimer from me, a romantic feel good isn’t my usual genre, I got swept up by the Irish setting and narrator. I think I’m a bit too hard boiled for the genre.
I didn’t fall for the characters or their relationships. The girls seemed more concerned about their inheritance than their grandmothers predicament. The romances are sudden, no smut, but seem too convenient rather than passion filled.
It’s a shame that the house itself wasn’t included with its interior descriptions etc to give ambiance, and make it more of a ‘character’ as it’s central to the story.
It would seem to be the first in a series, I found it an ok easy listen, not at all taxing, one that you can happily multi task while listening to.
