Expensive cars... Penthouse apartments... Exclusive clubs and endless money...
By day, Judas Woods practices Law in New York City. By night, he’s forced to portray a playboy image he despises. Beautiful, intelligent and way out of his league.
Years have passed since the tragic accident that destroyed her family in just one night, and Grace Winters has finally found her new normal. Congressman Ellis Randall is charming, charismatic, flawless...and he wants to marry her. Things are perfect. Almost too perfect… When Grace meets the enigmatic and troubled local bad boy, Judas Woods, she is swept into a whirlwind affair of passion, desire, and secrets.
What is Congressman Randall hiding?
And can Grace trust the bad boy she is falling hopelessly in love with?
Leigh Nicole Songstad found her love for writing during her college years while earning degrees in Political Science and Human Services. She lives in The Black Hills with her husband and their three children. With many more characters and stories patiently waiting on her hard drive she hopes to continue writing, for as long as God allows.
Let me start with stating that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn't know what it was about so went in kind of blind as to what to expect. I was excited, but also nervous that I would not like the story line or be able to get into the book. And then I started to read about Judas and slowly got sucked in. It wasn't one of those stories that grabbed me immediately, but about a quarter way through I got hooked.
Judas had just graduated from Law school. He has his entire future ahead of him...., until he learns what his father's plans are for him. Although he wasn't on the best of terms with his father, no son would expect the turn his life would take from that point on. He had hoped that after becoming a lawyer, as his father wanted, things would be different between them, but instead his father uses his feelings surrounding the death of his mother as a way to control him. The strange part is that I liked Judas. I didn't agree with his decisions to go along with his father's scheme, but I could understand his fear and the guilt that dictated his actions. A stronger, more confident person may have said to heck with it, and walked away, but it would have been difficult to start out with nothing. I'm just amazed he wasn't as selfish and spoiled as one would expect given he was raised with money. That doesn't mean I was not frustrated with him either. Especially as he got older. A 29 year old man who has worked and saved should have been able to stand up to his father. I do give him credit for trying to balance the bad with some good deeds. It showed that his heart was in the right place and that he was trying to atone for his role in his father's schemes.
Enter in Grace. Grace was everything Judas wanted, but couldn't have...or so he thought. Her background is the opposite of Judas'. Grace didn't come from money and actually had to work very hard to become successful. Similar to Judas, I liked Grace. There wasn't much to not like about Grace. She was smart, kind, considerate, and caring. She saw something in Judas, outside of his bad boy looks and reputation. Her one flaw is that she was blind to Ellis' faults and manipulations. But who could blame her? She had been dating Ellis for awhile and thought she knew him. The people loved him; he was charming, successful, intelligent, and charismatic. How does a woman choose between two men? One that seems too good to be true and the other who is too sexy for his own good. Yep, I got caught up in the tug of war going on here. By the last quarter of the book I wanted to reach in and shake Grace. Not fair, I know, but dang it...by then I just loved Judas and I wanted him with Grace. I was conflicted. Why? I don't like love triangles in general. And in this case, I WANTED the woman to break up with the man she was currently with for the other guy.
At the end, I'll admit I had not caught on to the final twists, but all in all happy for Judas and Grace. If you like a bit of intrigue and suspense, I think you'll find this book interesting. I won't say everyone will love it and like me you may find the beginning a bit slow, but it does pick up.
Court: Fallen From Grace is quite an interesting book. For most of it, I was sincerely peeved. The decisions the characters make were ridiculous and frustrating. But then again I thought the words Gossip Girl (and I watched every episode of that insanity) so the life of the Upper East Side is still contrived and all about who the power players are.
Court: Judas is a man who has been living well, not for himself for a really long time. I personally called him a pussy more times than I could count in the first 25% of the book...because really? Stand up for yourself, buddy! But...he does some redeemable things to make me think he might turn out alright. He is also a charmer of the nth degree, so there are some fun times with him. Shel: Yeah..he definitely let guilt rule his decision making and we don't really even get to know WHY he feels responsible for a while so that was a little frustrating. He has lots of good guy qualities so I couldn't figure out why his dad was such a dick and Judas would do dickish things.
Court: Now, then. Grace. What can I say about Grace. Well. Turns out, I ended up disliking her more than I thought I did Judas. Simply because she is one of those that makes all this STUPID decisions based on what she thinks will make everyone else happy. Gah. She was somewhat irritating, but there is one particular trope that just grates on my nerves. Cheating. There. Do with that what you will! Shel: Grace, Grace, Grace. Your instincts are screaming at you...why do you refuse to listen? WHO let's a man determine things like you do? WHY, Grace, why?
Court: There were a few pacing issues in the first half of the book that I have issue with. I liked what the author was trying to do, so I don't dispute that it was a good effort...but for some it might be confusing to go back and forth in time in some random places. This smooths out by 30% or so, so I did enjoy the story much more after the initial chapters. Shel: Courtney will attest that I, too, had some issues with pacing and the (what I call) insta-love connection. It distracted me and the insta-love didn't feel as authentic as I wanted it to. Some of the switches from scene to scene were jarring to me and I felt, by the end, that I still had lots of questions about these characters.
Court: The later parts of the plot are much more developed, and have some mystery and suspense...so I would say that is my absolute favorite, and what helped me like the story that much more. The later parts also make the idea of their relationship about 1,000x more believable so that was nice too..because I was skeptical at first! Shel: Yes, the last part definitely found a rhythm and a pace that worked far better than the beginning, for me.

What happens when the life you lead is all a façade? A role. One that is forced upon you either due to past regrets and guilt or family expectations.
“This was his life, and until Jack was through with him, he’d have to live by the grace of God, pray to his mother for forgiveness, and wait until he could be free.”
Judas Woods is in his own personal hell. His life is not his own; his father controls every move he makes. No matter how hard he tries to get out from under Jack Woods, Judas has no choice but to keep playing the roles that his dad assigns him – regardless of how immoral. The only control he has is the tattoos he puts on his back – each serving as a reminder of what he has had to endure at the hands of his father and his conscience.
“’Faith through Grace.’”
Grace Winters is an intelligent, compassionate woman who is willing to help anyone who needs it – although, at times, she cannot help herself and step out of the box of appearances that her parents and her boyfriend put her in. It doesn’t matter what she truly desires, there’s too much at risk to veer off course.
When Judas and Grace meet, their connection is electric, but there’s too much baggage on both sides, including a Congressman boyfriend with secrets of his own. But what if they are each other’s saving grace? What if their true selves can be exposed and maintained – forever ridding one another of the masks they wear for others?
Fallen from Grace is a story about redemption through grace. Leigh Songstad takes readers through a tangled tale of loss, secrets, and passion. Judas and Grace fight through all the obstacles to be together. Judas is made whole again by Grace’s love, and Grace frees herself from the pressures of conformity by giving in to her heart’s desire.
There’s a great mix of steam, suspense, and drama, and although, at times, there feels like there are too many storylines going on at once with a lot of different players involved, by the time the end arrives, the complications get worked out. The title is quite fitting to Judas and Grace’s tale – they find salvation in each other. Judas may have fallen due to the sins of his father, but through Grace’s love, he rises again.
4 poison apples! (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
THIS BOOK FEATURES CHEATING- IF THIS SUBJECT BOTHERS YOU I ADVISE YOU DO NOT READ
This book was really really good.
It tells the story of Lawyer Judas and Psychologist Grace. Told in both points of view.
He's a puppet- a man controlled by his Father- controlled by guilt of his Mothers passing.
His Father has him winning the easy cases by day, but by night he is cosying up to the family of high powered people in order to find leverage that his Father can use in his blackmail attempts.
Judas hates his life, but if he walks away his Father will disinherit him and end his career so he really feels like he has no choice but to let his Father pull his strings while he breaks inside.
By way of his Father he comes across Dr Grace- renound psychologist. Sweet sexy Grace. But sweet sexy Grace comes by way of his Father....so can she be trusted?? Also there's the problem with the boyfriend- a high flying politician on his way to becoming President.
This is a book of a forbidden love, lots of secrets and proof not everyone is as they seem.
It featured some good strong characters, not too many in the supporting type but the 2 main ones were good well written characters who I felt like I knew well in the end.
If I have criticism for this book it would be that it was a bit predictable. I pretty much figured out what was going to happen 10-20 pages before it even happened.
But don't let that put you off......sometimes a predictable story is what we need on a lazy easy reading kinda day!
Judas is forced into going to law school by his father Jack. His father also forces him into going out with girls who have problems like drugs and alcohol addiction, so his father can use that as blackmail against other elected officials. Judas was supposed to be digging up dirt on Rebecca but he doesn't like helping his father. So he tries to help Rebecca instead. Rebecca has a problem with drugs and alcohol. Her family wants nothing to do with her because she also dropped out of school
Jack is Judas father and a master manipulator. He forces Judas to do what he says or he wont have a future as a lawyer in any state because he has a lot of pull to make that happen. Jack starts to go after Ellis.
Ellis is a senator and is Dr. Grace Winter's boyfriend. Ellis is planning to put a case together with the ADA against Jack and Judas. Dr. Grace Winter is a psychiatrist. She meets Judas while she is having dinner with his father. Ellis takes Grace on a getaway to the Hampton's where her family owns a house. He tells Grace that he plans to run for president. Things start to go wrong when Ellis proposed. Ellis was having Grace followed and taking pictures of her encounters with Judas. Ellis threatens Judas if he sees Grace again that the pictures would be leaked to the press and then Graces career would be gone.
This is some really great writing. I loved this book, very fast paced.
Judas was that unattainable man that all women want to tame and make theirs. Unfortunately, his father had other ideas and dreams form him. Grace is the sweet girl that is driven and career oriented and wants to be in love.
This book makes me wonder how much of the drama really exists in the real world of politics, lawyers, and government officials. There were so many twists and turns and so much deception, mystery, and intrigue that you never really knew who was going to end up on top and who would be left out to dry and lose everything they have worked for. '
My heart broke fur Judas because he just wanted to live a normal life, but at the same time he didn't think he deserved it and often thought death would be a better option.
I hated Jack for the most part of the book. At the end I was still not a huge fan but, I could tell he loved his son and that he did the things he did because it was the only way he knew.
Ellis...... Well, he's a true government official in all sense of the word. He's manipulative, controlling, and expects everything to go his way or he will make sure it does by any means possible. This was a great book, I liked that there was the mystery and romance but, I really wish there would have been more interaction between Grace and Judas.
Well I couldn't agree more with Anna! I loved this story and couldn't get enough! You have Judas,he's lost someone dear to him and from a young age he was forced to be something he's not.. he hates it and despises his dad for it (I would too! Hated his dad!) While out with a friend, Judas spots Grace having din din with his dad and he is NOT happy about it.. why you ask? Well because he is infatuated with Grace when he first sees her! You have Grace she is a Psychologist that too has had lost someone dear to her. She has this Congressman boyfriend .. who from the beginning I CAN'T STAND! Like I wanna hurt his uptight behind! I love how Judas couldn't stay away from Grace, but felt bad because he didn't really get to live his life because of his jerkoff father. I am in love with this story and NEED MORE.. Ms. Leigh please, please,PLEASE Tell me there is more to Judas and Grace! I give them 5 stars!~ Chris :)
I just have to say first is the cover is seriously delicious! This was a 4 star read for me! I liked the story and the characters and there was some serious steamy scenes. The only thing I can say is this is a little insta-love which is normally not my kind of romance story but it did veer in different directions so I was able to push that aside and enjoy the ride. Oh Yes it was a whirlwind and you just have to let your body flow through the waves.
Grace---She is a psychologist who deals with patients everyday that are broke and she has to help them through picking up there pieces of life after they are shattered, she is a woman who has dealt with the loss of her brother to drugs and she is trying to pick up her own pieces because she has to move on with her life, and what better way with a perfect man who is well known for being a senator who is now running for president. Life is perfect or is it all just a sham? When she meets with a lawyer named Jack one night who wants to use Grace to help with a case (so she thinks) does her world turn upside down when Jack's son Judas is in the same restaurant and he comes to her table and introduces himself? Does she start questioning her life with the Senator? Could she be happy with another man?? She comes to care for Judas but will the obstacles that stand in her way make it hard for her to trust Judas the town playboy? Could she give up her so called perfect life to be with the bad boy?
Judas--- Well hawt damn, just look at the cover and yes keep your jaw on the floor cause he is totally described in this story as that perfectly delicious! He has dealt with a tragic past by the way of his mother's death and his father hates him and will do anything to make his life miserable. First forcing him into law school (which in turn Judas really actually starts to love) then Jack sets forth a plan to make Judas his so called play boy to get close with the elite girls and get evidence to help his cases, Judas is his spy and Jack wants payback from him for being there when his mother died, he blames Judas for his wife's death and Judas has to pay for that. Judas knows what he does is wrong but his father is a very powerful man and could ban him from ever working again as a Lawyer and take away all the money, cars, houses. But will one woman make him think about changing and give up everything just to be free from his father once and for all. Will his secret life tear them apart and send her back to the so called perfect life she thought she had?
"Then please, tell me how it is. You know how I feel about you, Grace. I've made it very, very clear. And in case you're worried that I'm only interested in a one night stand, I'll clear that up right now too. I've never felt this way before, and I know I barely know you, but I want to change that. I'll take as many nights as you'll give me."
"Why?" Judas stood and it made Grace's heart lurch in her chest. "This feeling in my chest," he rubbed the area, "hurts. I can barely breath, Grace. I don't want to live like this. Nothing matters without you. I don't want to live in a world where I can't see you or touch you."
Pick this book up and run with it cause it will make you question things all the way to the end... and it does have some serious sex scenes which of course makes for a great book (hahahahaha)! But that's not all the makes it great it was well written and great story line and I will definitely look for more books from this author.
I was offered the ARC for Fallen from Grace in exchange for an honest review. After reading the synopsis I was very much intrigued as it described what sounded to me like not only a love story, but also a book which would possibly have some suspense and betrayal. With the majority of my reading being strictly stories of love, I felt drawn to this book just looking for something with a little more, and Fallen from Grace definitely was “more.”
On the surface, Judas Woods appears to be a man who has everything. Working as an attorney in New York and living the life of a playboy and womanizer, he has it all. But he loathes the life he is living. Because of a tragedy from the past, he remains affected forever left with a father who continues to blame him, leaving Judas with no alternative but to continue to do his bidding in order to remain in the lifestyle he is living. But Judas has had enough and is ready to abandon everything to be free to live the life he chooses. That is until he sees Grace Winters. With one look at her angelic face and gazing into her eyes, she immediately captures his soul. But Judas knows he’ll never be good enough for Grace. With secrets, lies and mistakes he has made, how could he ever earn and keep her love.
Grace Winters is a beautiful and intelligent woman and psychologist living in New York. Seemingly Grace has everything herself. But she is no stranger to tragedy. Being left with a feeling of guilt, she pushes herself through life graduating Maude Cum Laude and attaining her doctorate by the age of twenty-five. But her life is heading down a path which she begins to feel is not the one she wishes to take. That is until the night she meets Judas, and Grace begins to feel something she has never felt before, not even with her fiancé. Feeling an unmistakable attraction and pull to her heart, one which she has never experienced, ultimately leads them both to a night of passion and love. But now she is faced with the dilemma of making the choice of either doing what she feels her parents prefer or what Grace’s heart needs. But Grace soon discovers there is more to her fiancé than she ever knew which leaves her with a feeling that there are things he is hiding. Things which could stand in her way of finding happiness with the one man who fills her with a love and passion she may never be able to have.
I loved this book. I loved the connection between each character and after reading the last page I exhaled with a sigh. The special link between the souls of Judas and Grace were magical (and steamy) as they continued to face uncertainty and danger. Though left feeling vulnerable by unforeseen occurrences, neither of them ever lost the love they felt for each other, the intense love that melded their hearts together, even when faced with the ultimate possibility of losing each other. Fallen from Grace tells not only a beautiful love story of the linking of two hearts which were meant to be together, but also includes mystery and intrigue which kept me enthralled as I turned page after page and at some points sitting on the edge of my seat. This is the first book I have read from Leigh Songstad and I must say, I really like her writing style and look forward to more in the future.
The first thing I'd like to say about Fallen From Grace by Leigh Songstad is that it's one of those books that once I started to read it, I didn't want to put down, but I had to sleep at some time. Having started it the night before, I finished it the very next day. I think what drew me in the most was the fact I thought the two main characters – Judas and Grace, had amazing chemistry together. There were times when I could feel their frustrations when they had outside pressures on both of them. As a reader, I felt a lot of empathy towards them as the story unfolded and I learned more about what had happened in their pasts and the pressures they felt from family or others. I also liked the fact that as far as a career, Grace was a highly regarded psychologist. As far as secondary characters, there's one character that definitely stood out, and that's Senator Ellis Randall. There were several times throughout the book that I wanted to slap him just because of things he said and actions he took.
Overall, Fallen From Grace was a book that flowed easily, and I thought the pacing was just right. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who likes contemporary romance.
this is a good story I enjoyed reading it , jack frustrated me and I wanted to punch him in the face , this book made me wonder about the grown men out there in high pressured jobs still attached at the apron strings and feeling like there is no way out, very well wrote story lots of twists and turns and heart pulling moments my kind of book however I did feel at times it was a little fast going and needed a little more emotional connection but still a good read ladies if you like suspense this is your kind of book 4 stars Leigh well done
