Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero…

I’ve two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) so the romance in my life is all in my head. Then again, my husband’s unstinting support of my career change goes to prove that love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes can come in many disguises

I really enjoyed this. It was very easy and quick to read and grips right from the start.  The story is a Bodyguard tale, with Kelly the genius virologist who needs protecting by Marc. One of Ben's issues is his worry of being thought unintelligent by people. For me this really helped as the author often explains the science in words that he can understand. I am so rubbish at science and quite often if there’s science in the book, author’s forget that their audience may not understand. Like me! So I loved that Kelly explains all in a slightly easier way I can understand just as much as Ben. That’s a big plus point for me.

I also loved that I could enjoy this despite having zero in common with either character. Kelly is a rich, super smart woman. I’m a smart-ish nowhere near rich woman. And I've certainly never been a bodyguard or soldier but I enjoyed them  fleeing from a terrorist and the romance side of this so much. Loved it, highly recommended.

This is romantic suspense with a huge dollop of humour whisked in to make a tasty treat, a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Dr Kelly Bridge is a scientist who is working on developing a vaccine that would protect against a smallpox based terrorist attack. Her work is progressing well and should be completed soon but that makes her a target for those who wish to prevent her succeeding - or using her skills for their own nefarious purposes. That's why her parents have insisted she has a bodyguard. She doesn't believe there's any need, but to appease her parents and allay their fears, she agrees to let Ben Jacobs protect her.

Ben's ex-military, never actually completed his schooling and worries that anyone will think him as being unintelligent. I really appreciated how the author uses this as a way in which to explain the work that Kelly is doing in terms that are easy to understand! I also like how Kelly didn't equate academic prowess with intelligence or worth, recognising that different people have different abilities or talents and not all of these are academic but these alone don't define a person's innate value.

When the threatened danger becomes real, the two will have to work together to keep her safe but she's not used to following orders and is stubborn so this won't be easy for either of them! There are a mix of light-hearted, heartwarming and suspense filled moments throughout the story which has a roller coaster plot that keeps you wondering what will happen next - what will be round the next corner, bend or obstacle?

With an academically super smart heroine who sometimes lacks common sense in the face of danger and a strong, ex military hero who doesn't always recognise his own strengths, this is a fast paced, danger filled, thrilling story, a race against the terrorists and a need to identify the source of the peril so the romance can grow. I'll definitely be looking out for more by this author in future!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book without obligation. I chose to read it and this is my honest review after doing so.

*I voluntarily reviewed this book from the tour organiser

CRIKEY A BODYGUARD by Kathryn Freeman is an energetic and action-packed romance that is sure to set your pulse racing.

When Kelly's parents insist that she has a bodyguard as she finishes up her work on a vaccine that could be used against a terror threat, she thinks they are paranoid beyond belief. But it isn't long before they are proved right in their fears and Kelly must disappear with the man who will take a bullet for her, Ben Jacobs. As they try to figure out who is behind the threat, Ben and Kelly become close and the sizzling chemistry between them cannot be denied. But Ben won't let his heart get involved and hurt again. As danger follows them at every turn will they be able to uncover the truth and protect their hearts along the way?

Engaging, well-paced, and with plenty of drama to keep you interested, I really enjoyed CRIKEY A BODYGUARD by Kathryn Freeman. I enjoyed Kelly's character who is intelligent, strong, and knows her own mind, even if she is a little naive at times. Ben's character really worked for me and it was interesting to watch him figure out his past baggage as he dealt with his feelings for Kelly - although he did take some stupid risks at times!

CRIKEY A BODYGUARD by Kathryn Freeman is another great story by this author and is sure to please romance fans everywhere.

I like romantic stories. I like thrilling stories. I like funny stories. You can imagine my happiness when I found out those three things were mixed together resulting in this very enjoyable book.

The background was an original one and even though science is not exactly my cup of tea, it was interesting to read about Kelly’s work and I learned something today.

Learing and pleasure do mix together, so it seems :).

The writing style was fluent, the funny bits made me smile and my heart broke on occasions as well.

The author makes you realizes you might think you know someone, but some people show you they would totally feel at home on a stage. 4 stars.

Thank you, Kathryn Freeman and Choc Lit

I absolutely LOVED this book!
I quite liked the uniqueness of a scientist needing a bodyguard and I could totally understand Kelly Bridge being a bit apprehensive about some bloke following her around everywhere, but she's an intelligent woman and knows there's not much point arguing with her parents, so she reluctantly agrees. And, if you're going to be followed around by a bloke all day then you could do worse than Ben Jacobs. If I needed protecting I'd certainly want him on my side! He is a VERY likeable character although I did want to slap some sense into him at times, but for his own good. He is a professional, ex military, so he knows how to keep someone safe. He isn't so great at keeping his own heart safe though and soon finds himself falling for his 'Blondie'.
Kelly is quite standoffish at first, but as she gets to know Ben she softens and he awakens something within her. She falls for him hook, line and sinker, but he doesn't believe her feelings are real, just heightened due to their traumatic situation, but she knows her own heart and is desperate to convince him. My heart went out to her. I was praying he would come to his senses.
This is an emotional roller-coaster of a love story. Full of action, fear, danger, passion and heart-break. Just brilliant!

Ooooh, this is so good!! I mean seriously this is way beyond just being good, this is in a league of it’s own for greatness. Romance, comedy, thrilling action it has everything! This is only the second book I have read by Kathryn Freeman, I was hooked by the first of hers I read; Oh, Crumbs! I fell in love with her serious and realistic and very easy to read writing style so I knew that I had to read this one too. As soon as I read about this I just knew; This book is going to be a good one! Do you ever get that? When you instantly know, that a book is going to be good without even reading the first page? This is what happened here, I just had to get this book in my hands.

Kelly is a scientist who is on the verge of a break through with vaccine for a pox that the government think terrorists could start using in biological attack. After she has been followed and had strange men turn up at her door claiming to read the meter her parents decide that she isn’t save and employ a body-guard for her – much to her disbelieve, she can’t believe tat they would go and do such a thing without asking her first. How could they think she needs a bodyguard, she is just scientist. But they won’t take no for an answer. So in walks ex-special forces soldier and now bodyguard; Ben.

I have fallen hopeless, head over heels in absolute love with the hero; Ben, my goodness!! I am swooning a little at the mere thought of this incredible man, what a hero! Lots of love is going to be showered towards this man and those vivid green eyes. I love how real he is, after leaving school with practically nothing except the notion that education wasn’t for him, he chose to enrol in the military which was the making of him, he found what he was good at, he found his family and more than he loved his job – even when he was going through tortuous special forces training. So when he gets shot and has to leave it broke his heart, which is when Pantha Security Services came in. Not only now does he get to be useful but because everyone in the company is ex forces, it’s like going home. Ben is a complex man, he is a multi-layered man kind, protective, loyal, patient, strong, ruthless, no-nonsense, brusque and undeniably charming.

But he has his vulnerability – yes, I did zone on that fragility part of him the moment I met him – he feels inadequate and rather stupid around those who are higher on the social ladder then himself. So, when Ben finds out that his next job is to be the bodyguard of a scientist, he does groan and worry that this is going to one hell of a long job. That is until he meets; beautiful, brilliant, stubborn, super smart, unbelievably rich scientist; Kelly, who isn’t at all what he thinks her to be.

Even though Kelly doesn’t want Ben or any bodyguard, she fully thinks her parents are just jumping to conclusions – how wrong she is – she takes a real shine to him – again how could she not? She soon learns to trust the large man’s opinion and that he will keep her safe. I really liked the way Kelly explained the science and her job to Ben, after all he isn’t the inly one to not understand science talk.

This is my kind of book, it has everything! A stonking great plot, where you never know what is around the corner. A fantastic romance between two gorgeous people who you know are just crazy for each other. A super smart and independent heroine and rugged ex military hero – with green eyes, sigh! That is definitely my kryptonite. What you think will be a basic woman meets her bodyguard and they fall helplessly in love, soon shows that thus is far, far more than that. Yes, there is romance – after all this is a ChocLit book which are one of the best publishers around for a good old love story, but add to that the fast paced, race against terrorists then you have something very special.

This has a; must be made into a film, written all over it!

There is a real depth and feeling about it that just pulls you in and you literally at the edge of your seat as you devour it age by page, there re times when your heart is in your mouth and then you go; wow!!

Honestly, this book is so good! Thrilling, exciting, fun, witty, intelligent, romantic and it has real heart. Ms Freeman’s writing is so good, stylish, eloquent and so engrossing.

Just perfect!

The amount of times I literally screamed reading and this…and not from joy omfgggg. The flip flopping plot mess drove me insane. I went into this expected a fun rom thriller bodyguard romance but nope that's not what I got. It was a ridiculous mess making me want to scream at both characters throughout majority of book! Also savage unnecessary descriptions of their looks especially him thinking "she wasn't beautiful, her face wasn't remarkable, he'd seen prettier.." wtf!! Never had the mmc being so disparaging of his love interest looks before in a book and not a fan at all. Also she drove me nuts she was being so dumb and ridiculous when her life was in danger and shouldn't trust anyone from her life! Also the whole slow burn mess was so frustrating!! Like I understood what he was trying to do but god and she was being too much & ridiculous when he doing it to protect her in long run it was so obvious. The whole thing just pissed me off I can't believe I read so many pages of that mess😬🫢not to mention who villain was I knew literally right away smh just a mess all around.

I will be honest, I was expecting a cute romance and whilst it definitely is a romance novel, it's not that lighthearted. Kelly's life is under threat as a scientist who is working on a vaccine so her parents hire a bodyguard to protect her. Ben is the handsome bodyguard and you can see the sparks flying as soon as they meet. I liked how we get to see inside Ben's head and what he is feeling. Due to his job, he tries his best to put work first and downplay his feelings for Kelly.

Kelly's life comes in danger more than a couple of times and I could easily see this being a movie. One of those action type ones with the two main characters who are total opposites, falling for one another. I liked both Kelly and Ben and the story ended as I hoped it would. Containing kidnappings, guns etc, it wasn't quite the story I had expected from the cover but overall was a decent one.

The title of this book did make me smile. When was the last time you heard someone say ‘crikey’?

Well, “Crikey, a bodyguard!” is scientist Kelly’s Bridge’s response when her parents say they have hired a bodyguard to protect her. They are concerned that she may be in danger due to her work developing a vaccine against possible biological terrorist attacks. She is one of the youngest research scientists at her lab, having been fast tracked through school and university. She is completely passionate about her work, so much so that there hasn’t been much time for men in her life. Not that men seem to see her as anything more than her brains though, don’t seem to notice that she is actually a woman as well. Ben Jacobs is the handsome ex-soldier hired to protect her. Ben didn’t do well at school for various reasons and considers himself a bit thick. He is intimidated by Kelly’s intelligence although attracted to her beauty. This is all a bit inconvenient when his job is to protect her and is strictly hands-off!

This is a book which certainly had plenty danger in it. Ben has his work cut out for him keeping the impetuous Kelly safe from those who would do her harm. I did feel sorry for him at times as he was painfully aware of his lack of education. I really felt for him as he was of course skilled and intelligent in other ways such as emotionally. He did rather wind me up at times too though with his seeming inability to talk to women without flirting or calling them honey or, in Kelly’s case, Blondie! Maybe endearing in social situations but not in a work scenario.

Being a ChocLit book this is, of course, primarily a novel with a love story at its heart. And as always, Kathryn Freeman, writes the about developing relationship in a very believable way. Despite the apparent differences between the two lead characters, they had so much in common and actually had a lot they could learn from each other. The sexual tension between them was simmering almost from the moment they met but with so many misunderstandings between them, could anything ever happen?

With a perfect balance of peril, thrills, romance and more than a little raunchiness, Crikey a Bodyguard is another appealing book from Kathryn Freeman. With some dramatic scenes and romantic scenes both of which get the heart racing, this an entertaining and heart-warming read.

I loved it! Crikey a Bodyguard had just the right amount of suspense and romance to keep my nose firmly glued to my e-reader! It was enthralling, entertaining, and impossible to put down!

It tells the story of Dr Kelly Bridge, a young female scientist who is in the process of developing a vaccine for a variant of smallpox which might potentially be used by terrorists. Her parents are concerned for her safety and insist she has a bodyguard. Reluctantly she agrees, and they hire an ex-Special Forces operative, Ben Jacobs, to protect her.

At first, Kelly and Ben both think there is nothing to worry about. However, after a conference in Rome, Ben feels they are being watched, and, amid growing feelings for Kelly, is determined to protect her at all costs.

Being under close protection has provided Kelly with the opportunity to get to know Ben, and it's not long before they are aware that they have very strong feelings for each other. Ben puts this down to their situation, and resolutely refuses to believe that someone like the intelligent and pretty Kelly, could fall for him.

The danger ramps up once they are back in England, and Kelly is kidnapped at gunpoint right under Ben's nose.

How Ben saves Kelly, and finds the person responsible for her kidnapping, is elegantly told in this fabulous story.

I found Crikey a Bodyguard racier than A Little Christmas Charm which I read last year. I thought the plot was well-thought out, and was very plausible. I fell in love with the protective, considerate, cheeky Ben immediately, and was not at all surprised that Kelly fell for him too. I didn't like Kelly's colleague/boyfriend Dr Stuart Jennings from the get-go. There was no warmth to him, and I was surprised when after their dinner-date, when he'd done nothing but talk about work-related matters, he thought it was time for... well, more than a kiss on the cheek! The more I learned about Stuart, the less I liked him, and was glad that Kelly was beginning to think she was worth better than him.

Freeman had me entertained from start to finish, and yes, I'd award Crikey a Bodyguard 6 stars!

When Dr Kelly Bridges voices concerns to her parents that she feels she may be being followed, her parents call in a security firm to provide a bodyguard. Enter Ben Jacobs…

The two main characters are Kelly and Ben and initially they appear that they are like chalk and cheese in so many ways, or maybe I should say they are brains and brawn! Kelly is a genius when it comes to her career and her research into viruses, she is all about her work. Ben is macho and just a bit yummy sounding… ok!… a lot yummy sounding! He, like Kelly is also all about work, he takes his job seriously, he is intense in quite a few ways. Kelly is reluctant to have a bodyguard and thinks it just an over-reaction, but Ben soon proves that he is actually needed.

This was such a fabulous story to get caught up in. The threat to Kelly is such a good plot line to have for this story, it fits in well with Kelly’s work and the author has wrapped up a little bit of science in there as well! It was just the basics, but enough to get a grip on Kelly’s work.

Kelly and Ben as individuals are as I said very different, however, the further I progressed the more I realised they are also similar in the respect that they are also two very lonely people. Both caught up in their work with little time for any social activities. I was expecting sparks to a certain extent, and there was some wonderful smouldering and definite sparks moments. This is not a straight forward romance instead the author had her characters dancing like puppets on strings as they wove their way through the story.

There was such a good amount of banter through this story and a nice balance of humour that had me smirking. It gave a lighter touch to the story and also added to the romantic suspense.

The author has done a wonderful job mixing a science, romance, threats, suspense and romance into this story. This was a book I read on my kindle, I originally planned on reading 50% and was then going to watch a film… I never got to the film… instead, I got to the end of the book!

So it gets a definitely recommended from Me

Rating this a 5 because it’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read (a weird word to use to describe something packed with action scenes), and I thoroughly enjoyed it, yet it’s definitely not on my reread list. There was a lot of push and pull, but the fact that the h was so tenacious yet innocent made me able to bear the angst. Usually I like the main male lead more than the female, but this one felt like I loved them both, yet the female lead was one of the best I’ve ever read. She wasn’t unrealistically perfect, nor was she annoyingly imperfect, but she pushed onward the whole time so that even when something tough was happening, she stared it right in the face and took it on however she could, with no more or less power than she had. It was really refreshing to read about a character like that.
And while I don’t like angst and too much push/pull for which this one had a lot, somehow, it all made sense and it worked—nothing felt like it was a push just for the sake of it. You could feel the genuine hurt behind the characters and the reasons for why they acted the way they did. I can see some of it being too much for some people, which is weird because I’m one of the people with really low thresholds. But in the end this is a case where I feel compelled to rate it 5 stars, love it for what it is, I enjoyed it when I read it, and move on because the really well written action scenes and gun fights really worked for this book and otherwise aren’t my style, haha. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a romance book a bit different from most.
Also: wow that cover is misleading! Took a while for me to get to it cuz it seemed extra light hearted, but no this one’s a little intense.

This is my first book by Kathryn Freeman and after reading the synopsis I jumped at the chance to read it!

I really enjoyed this book, this read is totally up my street... full of action, suspense, humour and romance to boot.

Dr Kelly Bridge is not your typical damsel in distress but a scientist developing a vaccine against a potential biological terrorist attack. After a few odd run ins with strangers, Kelly’s father decides to enlist the help of a bodyguard to protect his daughter and here we meet Ben Jacobs.

Ben ex-special forces after an injury is now a bodyguard working for a private security company called Panther. Of course Kelly thinks the idea is totally ludicrous, but agrees to humour her parents and let Ben shadow her and it’s not long before Kelly’s life is in danger.

This is a fast paced read filled with adventure, but what I love is that Kathryn balances this with romance and humour. I say this so much but I love that we get to read through the eyes of both characters, chapters switching between both Kelly and Ben.

Ben is cheeky, loveable and assertive oh and of course a bit of alright...! But you quickly understand his insecurities when faced with his next assignment to protect the scientist. Ben comes across as macho man but a school drop out, Ben struggles with his confidence of feeling less intelligent to the brilliant Dr Kelly Bridge.

Both characters were written well, however I was a little frustrated on numerous occasions with Kelly’s character. Her stubbornness often got them into danger which could have been avoided if she only listened to Ben, but then I guess where would the fun be in that! I liked that Kathryn included explanations on the work that Kelly was taking part in, my science knowledge is shocking so it helped to feel included and understand the ins and outs of Kelly’s project.

Of course this read is predictable but I really didn’t care, I think expecting the outcome of the story was what made me want to read this book in the first place. This has all the feels of a movie with its entertaining plot twists, not to mention hero Ben who I kept picturing as Jason Statham!

As well as the action, what’s a book without a little romance... During a work trip to Rome Ben suddenly develops feelings for Kelly, however he must push his emotions aside and concentrate on protecting Kelly when her life is threatened. I loved the chemistry between the two when they worked together the heart warming moments were perfect for this thrilling story.

Overall an entertaining read from start to finish, I wasn’t ready to leave the characters though (am I ever?!) I would love to revisit the characters again!

A big thank you to Rachel Random Resources and ChocLit UK for the ARC.

When your parents hire a bodyguard to protect you, then you know things are getting serious! And that is the situation Kelly finds herself in as she works on a very important vaccine, and what follows is a thrilling and fast paced story that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Kelly is very focused on her work, and coming from a family of scientists, her parents are well aware of the importance of her projects. So when she gets the feeling that she is being watched and followed, her parents don't want to take any chances and hire Ben to work as her bodyguard. She is not ready for the constant surveillance so it takes some getting used to!

Ben takes his own work very seriously too and will leave nothing to chance while he's working for her. It helps that they click on a personal level too, and the more time they spend together, the more the bond grows between them!

And despite his protection there seems to be someone determined to get to Kelly, and the action really heats up and puts them both in danger and it got my blood pumping with the suspense!

It really mixes the romance aspect well with the action, and allows you to get to know both characters pretty well - they have both lived such different lives but have a respect for one another and the work that they both do, and that really helps you understand the issues they have initially working with one another, Kelly in particular! She doesn't want to be the damsel in distress, but soon realises her work places her on the radar of people who will go to extreme measures to get her out of the way.

A fabulous read - Crikey it's good!!

So my main worry with this book was if there was going to be too much 'sciencey' words that I wasn't going to understand but I need not have worried as there was just enough science stuff to keep you in the loop but not confuse you. The book as a whole turned out really interesting and something I enjoyed immensely.
So when it comes to the romance of this book I have to admit it was not at the for front of this book, which was a refreshing change. The romance I found was in the background but there were hints of it. The only way I can describe it is that its the same thing they do in a TV series. They keep you in suspense waiting for that first kiss, first touch, that first hint of romance between the two main characters and this book does not disappoint. The suspense makes you keep turning the page, until suddenly you are so invested in the story that you don't want to stop reading.
Something else that kept you reading was the way the story was written. It was well written in this bloggers opinion. Not only that it gave you the right amount of detail to keep you interested in the danger and the science. Such a perfect combination. I also love how completely opposite the two main characters are, even though they both have their moments where they show their depth.
My final thoughts about this book are that I am so glad I took a chance on this romance. I absolutely loved the book and look forward to discovering more of Kathryn's work and those hunky heroes.

This has to be one of the most fun and entertaining romances that I have read for a while.  It combines romance, humour and action - what more could you want?

Dr Kelly Bridge is working on a classified vaccine when a few strange occurances happen.  Her parents insit on hiring a bodyguard until she has finished her work and so...introducing Ben, ex-special forces and a hunk.  Kelly is reluctant at first but then n incident makes her realise that she needs Ben's protection more than ever.

Ben and Kelly are written in such a brilliant way.  The chemistry between them is sizzling from the word go but between misunderstandings things never go the right way. Kelly is scared of relationships and sex and Ben scared of science and big words - things often end in tantrums or hilarity.  Both characters are really likable and you spend the whole book waiting for the magic moment between them.

In addition to the romantic storyline we actually see some action. No you little minxes......I mean actual fighting, gun using, intense moments of action proving that Kelly did indeed need her bodyguard.

Kathryn Freeman's writing style is light but makes for compulsive reading and a novel that I found hard to put down.  This is the perfect light hearted but very entertaining read - highly recommended.

I am a fan of Kathryn Freeman’s previous novels, so I was so eager to jump straight into Crikey A Bodyguard.

Kelly thinks her parents are overreacting when they insist on employing a bodyguard to keep their daughter safe. She is a scientist working on a new vaccine against biological terrorist attack and her parents feel that her life is at risk. Actually, Kelly has to admit that some strange things have been happening recently, so she agrees to keep her parents happy.

They employ ex-Special Forces soldier Ben Jacobs as her temporary bodyguard and he moves in straight away.

The main characters couldn’t be more different and this makes an interesting dynamic. She is the academically outstanding geek and he is the boy who dropped out of school, but the chemistry is definitely there. I loved Ben, he was forced to leave the military when he was shot, so finding a security job full of ex-services personnel was perfect for him. However, behind the muscular body and jaw-dropping good looks, there was a vulnerability that was so endearing.

The plot leaves you gasping at times, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. Kelly is a loose cannon and puts herself in danger at times, luckily Ben makes sure she is always safe despite her hot-headedness. As always the story and characters come to life with Kathryn Freeman’s unique warmth and infectious humour.

Having enjoyed 'Oh Crumbs', I jumped at the chance to read Kathryn Freeman's latest rom-com . and I'm glad I did!

Kelly Bridge is a scientist, and a very smart one at that. Working on a potential world-wide breakthrough, her parents - both imminent in their own scientific fields - are concerned about her safety and hire a bodyguard to protect her .. much to Kelly's horror. Ben Jacobs was a career soldier, good at what he does but paper qualifications are not his thing. Now working for a private security company, he is assigned as Kelly's close protection. These two are as far apart as chalk and cheese; how will being thrown together 24/7 impact on their lives?

This is a book with lots going for it; a solid story, likeable characters, a surprise or two along the way with plenty of entertainment value. It's certainly a different setting to the usual rom-com read, with quite a few ups and downs. Light-hearted, but with a serious element to the story and a bit of mystery thrown in, it kept my attention throughout. Opposites definitely attract, but once the situation which threw them together in the first place is removed, what then? All you need to do to find out is read the novel for yourself! Another excellent offering, and well worth 4.5 stars.

This is probably not the most unbiased review you will read. I was keen on Kathryn Freeman's books when I had read Too Charming and entirely hooked by Before You. As part of the Choc Lit Tasting Panel (who read the submitted stories without knowing the author) I read Crikey, a Bodyguard and it stood out immediately as a story to publish. When I later discovered the author I knew why!
This is an oil and water story where Ben and Kelly are out of their depth in each other's worlds. A relationship develops but they find that they both have preconceptions about themselves that they cannot see beyond.
When I was thinking about what to say in this review the old advertisement where the adventurous, mysterious, James Bond type man in black takes terrible risks to deliver chocolates came to mind. Which seemed fitting for Choc Lit.
If you fancy meeting an adventurous, mysterious hero then Ben is for you. If you like your heroines intelligent, independant and capable you will find Kelly fits the bill. If you like stories that are interesting and that also explore some of the baggage we all carry around then you will be hooked too.

Kelly is on the cusp of developing a vaccine against a potential biological terrorist attack and after it looks she is in danger, her family insist she has bodyguard for her own safety. She reluctantly agrees but only to stop them worrying, after all she's only a scientist it's not like is royalty or a celebrity... what is the worst that could happen?

This unique plot is the perfect blend of romance, humour, action and suspense (with a sprinkle of raunchiness). Freeman certainly kept me entertained throughout with all the twists and turns thrown at the unlucky duo. Her characters are instantly lovable, Kelly is independent, talented and intelligent and Ben is a real life, totally gorgeous action man and before you know it you'll be rooting for them to overcome their own stubbornness, let go of their own hang-ups and give each other a real chance. A heart-warming and funny tale.... can Kelly and Ben find romance among the danger and the bullet or are the pair completely doomed?

Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.

In Crikey a Bodyguard, we have two contrasting characters: Kelly, the super-smart scientist and Ben, the man of action who find that despite their differences, there is a strong attraction between them. It is interesting to see their vulnerabilities as they are pushed to the limit. Kelly has a close knit family to consider which Ben has not. He is a loner and Kelly recognises in him some of the insecurities she has always felt despite her advantages.

I found this to be an eminently readable book and enjoyed the suspense of the storyline as well as the romance which was always simmering under the surface. Kathryn Freeman has a fluent writing style which is easy to read and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Her characters are believable with several layers to unravel.

In short: romance and action - what a combination!
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book

I really enjoyed every aspect of this story, Kelly is highly intelligent, but lacks common sense. Ben isn't the academic that Kelly is, but he has his own style of smarts, having served in the military his way of thinking is tactical. This made for a really pleasing dynamic between the two. The perceived threat that Kelly doubts exists becomes alarmingly real when she is pursued by those that intend to abduct the brilliant scientist. Kelly's explanations to Ben helped the reader understand the science in a way that avoided being overwhelming. Without this I feel that it would have been a hard book to read for the less scientific mind. With the science explained, it made for an easy read that helped the reader to focus on the plot. Oh the plot! Fast paced, exciting and intense with a dash of humour and a splash of romance, this was a great recipe for a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is the first book I have read by Kathryn Freeman and I really enjoyed it. The characters are very believable and the story is a page turner.

Kelly is a brilliant scientist and is close to developing a sought after vaccine, so when she thinks she is being followed, her parents insist on hiring her a bodyguard. So enters Ben, a witty, strong soldier that doesn’t understand one iota of science. A failure at school, and injured in the army, he is now working for Panther on security missions.

Kelly and Ben have nothing in common, but as always opposites attract and as the threat level increases so does their friendship. Ben has seen this all before, been caught up in the crossfire and drawn to the women he is protecting. So is their relationship over before its even started and who is trying to kidnap her?

This is a contemporary romance involving a brilliant scientist who is under threat because of her work into vaccines (which can be used to counter biological weapons) and her bodyguard.
The whole story reminds me of a good Hollywood action blockbuster: completely unbelievable, but packed with action, sexual tension between the protagonists, and lively dialogues. That is, pure escapism, intellectually undemanding but perfectly satisfying.
On the side, this is the second book I've read by this author with a bodyguard and forced-proximity different-backgrounds tropes, but the result is quite different. So, extra points to the author for being able to spin a whole new story starting from a similar premise.

Another winner from Ms Freeman – feisty heroine, gorgeous hero, dangerous situation, HEA – what’s not to like?
The book tells the story of Kelly – a clever scientist who is trying to develop a particular vaccine. Her life apparently becomes threatened, so her parents hire a bodyguard for her, ex-Special Forces soldier, Ben. Kelly thinks she is an unattractive geek, Ben thinks he is a thick, uneducated squaddie. The position quickly becomes dangerous, until all becomes resolved, though not without a little twist in the tale. The story moves on quite quickly, and without too much blood and gore.

"Fast paced" describes this novel well. Starting from the moment Kelly realises she really needed a bodyguard, there's more action than I would have expected. Good thing it's a romance, or I would have worried way too much about Kelly and Ben to enjoy following their adventures, while knowing it had to end well only made the book hard to put down as I wanted to find out how they would get through all that alive (and in love), and of course who was behind it (which added a welcome touch of mystery). My favourite parts, however, are the conversations they have during quieter moments. There's often humour in those, and also interesting information.

This is a fabulous, fast paced book, so much so, I didn’t want to put it down. Great believable and charismatic characters, great plot – a brilliant scientist is forced, against her will, to take a bodyguard, when it looks like somebody could be following her and her family are concerned. It is not a relationship either of them feels comfortable with. He’s ex-Special Forces (what’s not to like) and she’s developing a vaccine (and in her own words a bit of a geek). Kathryn has once again produced a super book, this time combining romance with thriller elements woven seamlessly through it. A great read and I adored it.

My second book by this author but perhaps this sub-genre is not for me

I really enjoyed "Oh, Crumbs" by this author and was glad to read another of her books. Unfortunately this one just was not for me. It took me a month to finish which is very unusual for me and I kept putting it down for days at a time.

The book is pretty well written - I just didn't tune in to the plot at all. Maybe bodyguard romances are just not for me. I found the whole way the plot progressed unbelievable, particularly in a UK setting.

I won't give up on this author as I did enjoy the first one - I shall try a different sub-genre however.

This book really gives you a lot for your money! A romance, a thriller and a gentle explanation of viral technology! I loved it and had a very late night to finish it before bed. The hero, Ben is a real man in all ways and the heroine, Kelly, a well put together lady. Their initial meeting was unwanted but eventually it all works out, but what a journey. The adventure they embark on is believable and the end unexpected. Make sure you have a stash of chocolate to hand and a suitable beverage as you will not want to put it down!
