When portals go wrong, survival becomes everything.
Nathan's desperate portal jump scatters his team across hostile territory. Alone in a remote forest with demons and vampires closing in, he discovers truths that shatter everything he believed about his world.
His friends made it out. He didn't.
Now Serena, William, Amara, Seth, and Ben face an impossible choice: abandon Nathan to save themselves, or risk everything in a rescue that could destroy them all.
Meanwhile, Nathan fights to survive in enemy territory, questioning allies, enemies, and everything his grandfather’s lessons taught him. The deeper he goes, the more dangerous the truth becomes.
Time is running out. The rebellion grows stronger. And somewhere in the wilderness, Nathan faces horrors that will either forge him into the master weaver he needs to become—or break him completely.
Some bonds can't be severed. Others shouldn't be trusted.
In this war, even blood ties can be deadly.
The Old Blood Saga continues—sometimes the most dangerous truths are the ones your family never told you.
Some bloodlines carry magic. Others carry secrets. In the Old Blood Saga, they carry both.
B. Scott Hoadley writes urban fantasy for readers who like their magic dark, their loyalties treacherous, and the shadows between worlds uncomfortably close. His debut series follows Nathan Briggs — a young man who inherits more than money when his grandfather dies, and finds himself drawn into a hidden war between weavers, vampires, demons, and fae, all circling an ancient organization that will do anything to maintain its grip on the magical world.
Readers call it “a grown-up Harry Potter.” Others say it’s “like your own private movie — you can envisage every scene, every character, you feel part of it.” For fans of Deborah Harkness and the Discovery of Witches series, the comparison comes up again and again.
An expat New Yorker who has lived in Boston and now makes his home in Southeast London, the author writes with one eye on the hidden layers beneath familiar streets — the magic that might be lurking just behind the ordinary world, if you know where to look. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College and spends the remainder of his time in the English countryside, plotting Nathan’s next catastrophe.
The first five books of the Old Blood Saga — THE WEAVER, OLD BLOOD, HUNTER’S MOON, BLOOD TIES, and WEAVER’S ISLE — are available now. The final book, THE CONCLAVE, arrives in 2026.

Adored this book. Really enjoyed the pace change around the half way mark… could not put it down. Was pleasantly surprised at the character development of some which was good (don’t want to say too much in case it’s a spoiler for some). Cannot wait for books 5 and 6!
This series is very much padded out to stretch the plot to fill the pages. Lots of repeated phrases and emotional psychobabel, lots of needing to process and blokes checking on each others feelings! The book needs a good editor . Skipped chunks to move the action on. Weird how explanations are continuously avoided as everyone has to dash off somewhere.
Nathan and friend’s mission may technically be a bust, but there is some information acquired and new skill sets explored which will expand his capabilities. Nathan’s dad, Jonathan, is brought into the outer edge of knowing everything and his grandmother continues her gentle direction and encouragement. Next up, the real mission begins. I’m headed there now! This was a great follow-up to Book 3’s awesome cliffhanger.
This book got a little darker and more intense as the story unties its self in one area the knots get tighter in another. I am loving the complexities of this series. Bring on the next one
