Paranormal investigation in haunted Wales When paranormal investigator, Mike Travis and his pregnant wife Beth relocate to an idyllic cottage in rural Monmouthshire, they didn’t bargain for a sitting tenant. The spirit of Adain Powell, brutally murdered by the lecherous and ruthless Judge Llewellyn in 1654, still haunts the cottage and adjoining wood, unable to rest until the truth surrounding her death and the wrongful accusation of her husband for her murder are brought to light. In the cellar of The Black Mountain Inn, another is stirring. Judge Thomas Llewellyn’s grave is unearthed and his old bones, his very old bones are the focus of black magic ritual intending to bring about his return. It is soon more than Mike and Beth’s new home that is at stake; it is their lives and the life of their unborn daughter. Long Shadows is a story of both ancient and present day to be read with the lights on. Praise for Jan McDonald This is, without a doubt, the best Paranormal / Occult book I have read in a long time. This book has mystery, paranormal, occult, and a bit of romance all rolled into one book. The book is well written, easy to read, all parts of the book fit together nicely. The characters are well written, believable, and as far as the story will allow, well detailed. Review from The Crowsmoor Curse About Jan McDonald Jan lives close to the Welsh borders which have their own mystical quality and provide endless resources in the way of legends and folklore surrounding paranormal experiences. She loves all things paranormal and has read the Dennis Wheatley, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker and all those authors that excel in the creepy or downright scary world of paranormal events. When she embarked on the Mike Travis series (The Crowsmoor Curse, Long Shadows and The Sacred Ark) she realised that the field of paranormal investigation is more than we see on the popular TV programmes. So in order to provide compelling ghost hunting tales but with the greatest accuracy, Jan trained as a Paranormal Investigator and has studied parapsychology.
I’m Jan McDonald, the author of the Mike Travis Paranormal Investigations. I live close to the Welsh borders which have their own mystical quality and provide endless resources in the way of legends and folklore surrounding the paranormal. I love all things paranormal and have loved reading the best, Dennis Wheatley, Stephen King (his early work) Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, H.P. Lovecraft and all those authors that excel in the creepy or down-right scary.
When I embarked on the Mike Travis series I realised that the field of paranormal investigation is more than we see on the popular TV programmes and above all else I wanted to be accurate and so I trained as a Paranormal Investigator and studied parapsychology. I love researching my books, so this was no chore. I’m also the author of the Father Beckett Vampire Trilogy (Part One: Midnight Wine and Part Two: Lycan ). The research for this series was fun and entailed a journey to Transylvania with The London Vampire group! Going to revisit next year.

Read this book on the edge of your seat. Excellent read for anyone who is or isn't into the paranormal. The background being in Wales and the phrases in Welish , along with their superstitions is incredible.
Love the characters, the location, and each story. Mike Travis is a great lead character! I loved that he married another character. These are awesome books, and great reads!
Mike and Beth Travis are now married and hugely pregnant, but still can't stay out of trouble. It starts (in our time, anyway) with a pub landlord who finds a very old body while doing renovations in his cellar. I was in turns sorry for him and laughing out loud as the poor guy managed to scare himself silly several times over, and I liked him, so I hoped he would make out okay in the end. Anyway, the body he found was an evil old judge who delighted in executing innocents convicted of witchcraft in the 1600s, though he was pretty big on witchcraft himself. Enter paranormal investigator Mike Travis, who has just moved in to the area with his wife, and he begins to investigate a local haunted Abbey, along with the aforementioned pub, also said to be haunted. With the opening of the grave (and subsequent disappearance of said evil old dude's bones), Mike's plot thickens. At home, Beth is dealing with the impending birth of their daughter and Adain the friendly ghost who is trying desperately to get Beth's attention and warn her of imminent danger. With the help of friends old and new, they might just make it. I got through this in a day, pausing only for children's cries and the whining of dogs begging to go out. I was fully prepared to go five stars on this one, but the end was way over the top for me, without giving anything away... But I do recommend it for sure and am headed for the next installment, immediately.
This is book number two. It starts out with our hero, Mike, and his wife, Beth. Yes, the got married. Wonderful! Even better they have a child on the way.
They move to a little cottage in a parish called Monmouthsire. Beth starts to see a ghost. Mike doesn't. So strange...
Mike is there to research a ghost in the Monmouthsire castle. But it's more than that, lots more. During his ghost time he finds the castle's maid, Mary. Confused, scared and sexy assaulted. The ghost hunt over, here come the police.
It gets better. Think ghosts, demon and some really good guys & gals called Watchers. Can't wait to read the next one in this series.
This story kept me up at night...reading. I felt as I was there. Amazingly good.
OK, so book two wasn't the greatest read ever but book three more than makes up for it. Our hero Mike, (plus wife Beth) have to battle demons, their baby sacrificed to Satan by devil worshippers, deal with ghosts from the past haunting their new home, plus cope with the midwife from hell. It all goes to make a great read, so highly recommended and of course five stars. Book four awaits!!
I have just read this book by Jan McDonald and I thought it was well written. It kept me captivated and I read it straight through. The characters and places are well described and I could really visualise them. I will definitely read more from this author.
Read straight after The Crowsmoor Curse. Again a nice creepy tale but a bit disappointed as the ending was a bit 'samey' as Crowsmoor Curse. I do however love the authors location descriptive ability, my imagination goes into overdrive and I feel myself being drawn into these places.
