Hood Holiday with a Chicago Menace was 87 pages of pure mess and drama and was here for all of it! Hershey and Khaos are young and in love but, these two were never suppose to be. When the truth about who really set her daddy up comes out, be prepared to clutch your pearls and grab a glass of wine because y’all ain’t gon’ believe this shyt. 🤯🤯🤯 I really enjoyed Hood Holiday with a Chicago Menace. This book was full of moving pieces and shocking plot twists. There were a plethora of backstabbing, traitorous, psychotic, and pick me characters to keep you entertained from start to finish. My only complaint would be the ending. It was definitely rushed, and it read like it. I didn’t like that the main characters didn’t get back together on page. We were told they got back together. Considering what Hershey and Khaos went through, they deserved a love journey and I kind of feel robbed that we didn’t get to experience that. But, other than that, I loved this book and would recommend you add it to your holiday reading list. This was my first book by Dominique Nikail and I look forward to reading more from her.
This book had me at “Chicago”!! If it’s about my hometown, ima read it! This was definitely a hood Chicago holiday story and I was here for it all. From the very beginning this story pulled me in.
Wy’Keisha and Khatara had a forbidden love! Since their fathers were partners in business and best friends, she was supposed to be off limits but the heart wants what the heart wants. Their love affair was short lived after he was jammed up and forced to sit down! And after their last encounter didn’t go so well she wrote him off before those iron bars closed on him.
At just 18 years old Wy’Kiesha’s life was turned upside down in the blink of an eye and she was left broken and alone! Her daddy raised her to be a fighter and she went HAM to ensure that her family received the justice/revenge they deserved! Too bad the snakes were closer than she thought! Fast forward 5 years later and everything she was questioning regarding her past is revealed clear as day! My brain is always working overtime to put pieces of the puzzle together before it’s revealed in the story so I was hip to a few plot twists but some stuff caught me all the way off guard!!
This story was packed with so many twists and turns and I was locked in til the very end. I will say that editing and certain parts of the story delivered lack luster moments and the ending fell flat in comparison to how the beginning and middle of the story went but over all there were enough elements to the story that I really enjoyed that had me overlooking certain parts and that pushed my rating over the edge. It’s a solid 4 for sure but because I vibed with certain parts of the story I rated it the way I did! This was my first read by this author but will not be my last!
This was WILD, so many twists, I was going "WHAT? NOOOO" all the way through, I had such a good time with this book which I wasn't expecting at all. Like, I knew it would be fun by the title, but I had no idea I'd be sucked in immediately. The characters really grew on me and I'm sad I have to part ways with them now. But you can bet I'll be rereading this in the future, and checking out more books from this author.
This was definitely not the Holiday story I had in mind, it definitely lived up to the "Hood" title. Khaos and Hershey were young lovers and when he got caught up in the hood lifestyle she decided to leave what they had behind. She had to focus on putting her family back together after it literally crumbled when her father passed. I don't care too much for the surprise trope, but at least she kept the family present.
There were a lot of twists and turns in this story, literal chaos. I was definitely side eyeing Javonna cuz she was doing WAY too much. The momma was ruthless and Calvo was out his mind. I feel like I needed just a little more closure...like why didn't she tell him about overhearing what he said to DeShaye's hating azz?? And did the sisters package survive??
Hershey & Khaos were bound to be together, even through all the bs. And there was definitely some snakes in the grass. Hershey’s sister was so shiesty, she didn’t really get what was due. A few mishaps in the text, but I liked it.
There was really a lot going on in this story. It was too short for everything that happened. Javonna didn't get what she deserved. I wanted to see her face Hershey. Speaking of Hershey... Wy'Keisha Davenport? The names were a lot. I'm glad they had nicknames cause 🥴.
This was my first read by Author Dominique Nikail, and the synopsis didn’t do it any justice, it kinda had me thinking I wouldn't like it. I'm so glad I decided to read cause this book is sooo freakin’ good. The author came out the gate having me like 😳 🫢 😂. Calvo or whatever his name is had me side eyeing him from jump, and when the bombs were dropped about his hand in everything, I knew why. He should’ve walked away when he had the chance Johvanna was a grimy bih and wouldn’t know what family or loyalty was cause, cause bih how could you do that to your own father, your family, your motherfudgesicklestix sister bih, smdh 😔. I’m glad that she didn’t succeed in killings herself. That’s her karma. Oh, and watching her sister love her best life. That dang Darshae just couldn’t leave Khaos and Hershey alone and paid for it I’m glad that although it took some years, Khaos and Hershey got their HEA ♥️. I would love an update on them cause to me their love story was just getting started.
Chile I wasn't ready for this book very dramatic. Considering its short length (just 87 pages), there were a surprising number of plot twists. No one can be trusted these days. It's only snakes after snakes. While I thought the plot was entertaining throughout, the final act was disappointing in comparison.
This was a cute short read. The book could have been longer. Everything was just so jam-packed. A lot of secrets. That was one thing I really did like was revealing things quickly.
This was a good novella that really could’ve been a complete novel. The plot held my attention and was overall unique in a way that I couldn’t predict the entire story.
Javonna got off too easy in my opinion and so did Deshaye and her cousins, too. I loved Hershey’s personality and her values as both a woman and partner. It was obvious she viewed herself with high esteem because she loved herself enough to leave Calvo and even Khaos where they had her messed up at. Her character shined through even more when being played didn’t stop her from being there for Khaos’ in his time of need. So many women would have let him suffer the consequences of his actions, maybe myself included 👀, but she came through and was able to save her family because of it.
Even though the plot was enjoyable, the way the story was written made it hard to understand at times. The dialogue was all over the place and needed directional phrases to help the reader understand what was happening in the scene and who was speaking. At times, there were half to full pages of straight dialogue with no mention of who was saying what. What made it worse was the additional unmentioned characters popping up in the dialogue before being written into the scenes. It made it hard to visualize what was taking place. Editing was needed.
In all, I’ll definitely give this author another try.
This book had me hooked, I couldn't stop reading! literally every page had a plot twist and had me shocked asf! I loved the writer style and the plot this was entertaining. Hersey: She's been through alot.. Khaos: did what he had to do throughout the book Javonna: I hated her due to her POV and her sudden love for her sister was unexpected, im not sure what made her change, but it was commendable she beat up Deshaye, but her attempt shook me Calvo: Calvo turning out to be obsessed with Hersey wasn't on my bingo card, it was one thing he cheated which is disgusting, but ANOTHER to be break in Hersey's house, broke keija's devices AND watched Hersey in the bath?! oml, the audacity was high, and his death came pretty fast. Deshaye: MAD annoying had the nerve to sleep with other men and still expected khaos to be all over her! jumped Hersey and landed her in the hospital, she got the ending she deserved. - it would've been nice if there was more rekindling romance between Hersey and Khaos.
OH Goodness that was a great read! I’m astonished, shocked, angry & overjoyed by “Hood Holiday with a Chicago Menace (Countdown Til’ Christmas - Book 1” was a well written novella. Many tragic & misfortunate events transpired for both the FitzGerald & Davenport families. However, both insult & injury pales in comparison to Javonna’s betrayal & pain she inflicted on her family unit. …you did WHAT⁉️… to WHOM 😮⁉️I’m speechless and immediate relative can be that cold blooded, jealous & vindictive! DANG‼️But Mama JaDonna got the final say 🤭. Thereafter, should we be petrified of Wy’Keyisha more than “JaDonna”, “Big Killa” & or “Khaos”? …The body count is approaching double digits…and counting 🥴🤭‼️Cause in Chicago town who are your frenemies & or famemies keep them just close enough🫣😳.
This was a good book, I love the way it ended. I am happy that khaos father was able to be a part of his granddaughter life when she was born and growing, while he was away. I hate the fact that javonna had her daddy killed and caused the pain that she did to her family. I am happy that her mom knew the truth and now I understand why she had said to leave her in foster care. I am great ful to read part 2. I hope it is as interesting as part 1.
Very cute and quick to read story! I liked that it wasn't just set around Christmas time but also incorporated some Christmas "magic" into it too. The only thing I didn't like was the errors. The editors did not do a good job and in turn it caused me to have to reread sections for clarity and that interrupted my reading flow. Even still, though, I loved the plot! Merry Christmas!
Second chance love and unexpected babies is one of my favs and this didn’t disappoint. Khaos did everything right the second time around for his woman Hershey and his daughter. The snakes slithered right to their demise. Still don’t understand the moves/motive of Javonna but her punishment is fitting. Calvin overplayed his hand, loved the moves Big made, cleared house.
Dominique, I really enjoyed this read. In families there are sometimes when they fall for the wrong person. All this mess came from a misguided love that was one sided. I was so happy no foul play was done by his friend. Khaos was the man and Hershey definitely was that girl. I loved her mom as well. Jer sister got her karma and I'm sure she suffers daily🤗🤗🤗🤗
What a cute lil Christmas story!!!...I'm so happy to see such a sweet ending for family and friends!!!...Daddy was definitely down for his son and it broke my heart that Javonna worked with someone to set her daddy up!!!...Momma was definitely not playing about Hershey!!!....
Hershey saved Khaos and took about 10 behind her daddy she wasn’t playing……now Javonna took me for a whole loop I get it maybe if she would’ve said something sooner momma would have been different knowing she was taken advantage of but momma played her role until it was time but in the end momma and Javonna had Hershey’s back but Khaos had her covered
It’s sad that Calvo and Vanna set up her family that resulted in their dad losing his life. I like that Hershey was about that life and stood on loyalty even at the tender age of eighteen. Khaos came home playing no games about his money, daughter, nor woman. This was a good book but a loose end was left by not stating if Vanna’s baby survived.
This book was so good. I can't believe Khatara's sister was involved in her father's death. Calvo was evil. He deserved what he got. I hope her sister learned her lesson. She is alive but in a coma. I guess it wasn't her time. I am so happy for Khaos. He got his girl and his daughter. Great Read!
There was a whole lot of **Sugar-Honey-Ice-Tea** to this story from the very beginning! Twist, turns and moving pieces. It was a good story, definitely don’t look for the Hallmark Christmas in this book though!
A good holiday read. Well written with a steady flow. The title fits the story within. With likeable characters that had to survive trauma, drama, and betrayal by a family member. Once all secrets are out things settle down.
Life’s a challenge every day is a stride towards better. Parents love each child entitled of their needs neither sibling should feel over shadow by the other or neglected by either parent. Living with guilt is worse than death.
I never would've thought that she would have a hand in her father's death. When your were young trying to be grown men take advantage. Hershey was a real one . She handled business and ride for her heart.
I was disappointed there was not one sexy scene In this book so the cover was misleading to me I won't be continuing the series if your not here for that and want an actual quick hood story then this follows that to a t
So what happened is I wanted to read HOLIDAY STORIES all December. I came across this cover and said, "Let me see what's going on. Listen, this book is goodt. Not just a Christmas book either. It has substantial.
