3.5 stars. This is a bit different from what I usually read, being slice-of-life AF, not typically my favourite thing. It was however an interesting study of psychology and how having miserable people in prominent positions of your life can fuck you up.
This was 500 pages of girls influenced by a magic charm not able to get the guy to put out, with backstory randomly distributed. It gets rounded to 4 instead of 3 as the writing is good, but loses a bit for beating certain things to death. I understand why this was done, but it didn't make it less tedious to read.
It did however leave me curious as to where it goes, so in the end it was flawed but overall well done (for what it is). The rest is on RR (two books in a row like that, now that I think of it) so I may skip ahead there at least enough to resolve the semi-cliffhanger at the end of this.
I liked the trailer trash book enough that when I saw 3 audio books were available in this series I decided to give it a chance. Also I saw several reviews that said it wasn't bad. I know authors need good reviews so I'm going to give 5 stars for all three books. I was entertained enough that it didn't drag on to much, there is a story, and the people seem fleshed out so it doesn't seem to be a Pulp Harem Fantasy. I'd probably give it 4 to 4.5 stars depend on how I was feeling at the moment but like I said I'm giving 5 stars. It's worth reading or listening to if you want a wacky magic harem adventure. Just don't expect much from these books and you won't be disappointed. Keep writing you do have interesting universes but hopefully you have more books that aren't over the top harem stories. L
A well-written, thought-out, emotional story with fully developed characters. Super-shy Stephanie first gets “pinked” when she kisses recently-dumped Brian, then boisterous, outgoing Kelly meets Brian after she meets Steph. Chloe, ex-GF of Brian, mutual friend Emily has been bummed out by Chloe’s extreme, radical feminism. Rebecca is Emily’s best friend and they plan to help Brian get over his breakup. Brian, Steph, and Kelly have a wild night after AnimeCon day one with a game of Truth or Dare, Kelly playing matchmaker for Brian and Steph and maybe herself. A confusing but erotic time for Emily’s and Brian’s early friendship. Day 2 brings more relationship confusion, dirty tricks by Chloe, some devious plots and secrets revealed, and a real cliffhanger ending. Continues in Patreon….
Typically, books in this genre are filled with mobs of two dimensional characters that outside the bedroom have very little going on. The plot is often written to take a back seat to the spicy bits, and as a result the whole enterprise is pretty forgettable.
None of that is true of this book. The author has taken the time to create interesting and fun characters that you become deeply invested in. You can understand what drives them, why they behave as they do, and empathize with the experiences that in some cases have held them back from their true potential for happiness.
I will definitely be reading everything this author writes in the future!
Amazingly well done. The characters are very real and seem to stick to their personalities. The flow is good. You will not regret reading this one. Worth it.
The Fem villain is so well done makes you love and hate her. While loving the FLs. The ML has his own issues but is trying… but man. I just want to shake the crap outa them.
Great story can’t wait for the next volume. Wish the author had a page that I could follow so I can be notified when the next book drops.
The story begins with a group of friends and goes into a great deal of detail with the trials and tribulations in their lives. I thought that this was a bit too much detail until their attendance at an Anime Convention where new characters are introduced and it becomes a good vs. evil battle. This is where the detailed backgrounds of the characters really makes you identify with what is happening. Of course there is a little magic involved and a bit of harem starting. This is a must read book and one of the best I’ve read all year! Thanks FortySixtyFour.
What it says on the tin. It’s incredible to find a book that manages to pack so much character into the interactions of our main cast. More than that, it takes a tremendous amount of skill to make dialogue that flows smoothly and coherently in a writing format, and Fourtysixtyfour does a phenomenal job of accomplishing exactly that.
I cannot recommend this series enough, and I hope that it continues to see success and attention as the premiere example of the genre.
Don’t let the name fool you. This seems to be a slow burn adult content book. But one that is extremely well written. The main characters are well fleshed out. Each with a distinct and unique personality to them, which are completely different from each other. Very interested to see what happens next with these characters.
The book is excellent and deals with many hot-button issues. Should come with a trigger warning. I highly recommend it to fans of the genre. That said, MAJOR cliffhanger ending. The author stated in the postscript that books 2 and 3 were available on Royal Road. They are not.
I was prepared for a rote harem tale, but instead have stumbled upon a masterpiece of authorship. I won't bother detailing, except to note the plot line KICK at the end. Enjoy the journey. 6 stars
Great story! So well written! Made me care about all the characters quite a bit. This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites... up there with Jim Bitcher and other big names for me.
I don’t think I have run across this author before. I like this story a lot. It is dense and longish with details and some backflashs. It moves smoothly. It feels real and authentic. This is the first book in a series and I can’t wait to get into the next one.
This story relied too heavily on a couple of things to keep the plot moving. 1) every single protagonist is buried under emotional baggage 2) Every single protagonist is completely useless.
A character doesn’t need past trauma to be interesting.
Also, Stephanie is 22 years old but has the mental sophistication of an underdeveloped 8-year-old. I’m not kidding. It was disgusting how completely useless she was. How useless? She shouldn’t be allowed to be away from adult supervision. Again, I’m not kidding.
It just ended up dragging along with way too much, okay maybe the right amount of modern high school and teenage angst. Heh, it is almost like a MGTOW tale except the MC isn't tall enough or making enough coin to be drawing the witch's attention for such a twisted plot.
