With a surname like his, Troy Phail has learned to do whatever it takes to succeed, but growing his town is out of his experience. He hires an urban planner for two weeks to help him. The sweet and sexy planner turns out to be brilliant—and has Troy thinking of forever. When she is threatened and attacked, Troy realizes he’ll do anything to save her. This time, he can’t afford to fail.
No Good Deed is the first book in Jemi Fraser's No Fail Heroes romantic suspense series. Each of these small-town romances can be read as a stand-alone. The book contains some strong language and sexy times.
Jemi Fraser writes small-town romance filled with hope, heart, humour, and a touch of danger. Her stories combine her love of mystery with the satisfaction of a Happy Ever After. Love is always worth the risk!
this may be the most boring romance i've ever read.
there is no chemistry at all between the leads. at 20% into the book there is nothing engaging about the plot. literally nothing has happened except the heroine finding a dog in the first chapter. the rest is the heroine meeting a random collection of people in a small town, including a hero with no distinct personality traits at all
is the hero smart? broody? tortured? snarky? grumpy? sexy? kind? quiet? funny? shy? extroverted? NONE OF THE ABOVE. at almost a quarter through this book and the main make character has no... character. none.
i gave up on this book after reading 2 entire pages in which the hero and heroine talk politely about the weather. THE WEATHER
this indie author would benefit from doing some research before writing. specifically on character development and story beats.
This is book one in The No Fail Heroes series and it is Troy and Piper’s story and what a great start to a new series. Piper had taken a temporary job in Vermont in a town called Phail and she was looking forward to a change of life after going through a lot of bad luck recently but on the outskirts of town she found a injured dog and needed to take it do a vet before it was too late. Troy is ex military and now home and part of the town’s history and family legacy in Phail and wanted some of his military brothers to come to stay because being a civilian is really hard after military service and he had also hired a city planner to see if she can help attract more people to the town and build it up because it is a great place to live with good and sound people. When Troy and Piper met for the first time when she needed help with the dog she found and named him Oreo the attraction, chemistry and connection between them was instant and the people of the town took to Piper straight away and made her finally feel like she had come home which is something that she hadn’t felt since before her parents died. The more time that Troy and Piper spend together the closer they become and they feel like they have known each other for years and while they work together to come up with the new ideas for the town the more excited they get and Piper realised that she would love to stay in this great town with these amazing people but then things started happening just like before and danger was watching and waiting for the right time to strike but then the town came together because they were determined to protect her and keep her safe while trying to eliminate the threat to Piper and the town while trying to find out who and why this was happening before it takes away Troy and Piper’s happiness and future. There are many twist and turns along the way that would have you turning the pages and with the action it will have you on the edge of your seat because it is so addictive. I really enjoyed this book so much and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
No Good Dead is the first book in this series, but can be read as a standalone. This story has a good mix of mystery and romance. We meet Troy in other books in companion series so it was nice to get to read his story.
Troy Phail has learned to embrace his last name, but the town that shares his name needs a little help. He wants more for his town and decides to hire an urban planner to give him some ideas on how to draw people and business to his town.
Piper needs this job since she decided to leave her last one. A string of bad luck has her needing a fresh start and Phail may just be the place for her. She embraces the town and all of the people in it, but when her bad luck follows her, she starts to wonder if she will ever catch a break.
Troy immediately falls for Piper and the little dog she found on her way into town. They bond over Oreo, but then as they start to get to know each other they start to realize that bond runs deeper. When Piper's luck starts to turn on her, Troy's military instincts start to kick in. Her bad luck is a little too suspicious and he and the town start to come to her aid. Piper has not had anyone on her side in a long time and having someone at her side is starting to feel pretty good.
This book is well written and the characters are wonderful. You don't have to have read any other books in the companion series to be able to enjoy this story. There is mystery, romance, a tiny little sexy time scene, a cute dog, some humor mixed in and overall good storyline. My only issue, I was left wanting more. The story just sort of just ends. I was hoping for more and was left slightly disappointed, but I enjoyed the rest of the story so much I let it slide. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love the mix of romance and suspense in this book. Neither overwhelms the other. I love Oreo, the small dog Piper rescues, and he is a great source of entertainment in this book. I also liked the appearance of familiar characters from the previous books set in the small town of Phail.
Troy and Piper are perfect for each other. They make an instant connection and have a fierce chemistry that is quickly noticed by everyone who sees them together. Both try to fight their attraction to each other since she is only in town for a couple of weeks. When she is attacked, Troy’s protective instincts go into overdrive and Piper ends up a guest in his home after some not so discreet nudging by the matchmaking owners of the B&B where she has been staying. As former military and a security expert, Troy knows his home would be safer for Piper than the B&B. Keeping their hands off each other soon proves to be impossible, and she had never felt safer. They work together with his friends from Midnight Lake Security to discover who is behind the attacks on Piper and why. Piper’s ideas for revitalizing the town have gained her the support and admiration of the townspeople. As the danger escalates for Piper, they rally around to offer her support and to aid the investigation in any way they can. Neither Piper nor Troy were looking for love, but it found them anyway. Will they get a chance to build a future together?.
I loved No Good Deed: A Small-Town Romantic Suspense Novel Book 1 of No Fail Heroes. Troy and the city of Phail need help. He’s hired Piper to see what the city can become. Piper has had the worst luck lately with break ins, car accidents and mugging. Troy knows this is all related and someone is after Piper. He will do anything for the town of Phail and for Piper. All of his friends from Midnight Lake and all the residents of Phail will come together to help Piper and keep her in their town. I loved the storyline and the characters. I cannot wait for all the books in this series and to see the town of Phail grow. I would definitely recommend this book.

I was wondering when Troy with the same last name as the town would get his own story. He hires Piper as a temporary town planner to bring in more people and businesses to the struggling town and like many of the previous characters trouble follows her and she ends up falling for Troy, the town, and a goofy little dog she rescues on the way. I had a feeling early on about what her attacker was after and the Tansy’s team is quick to fill in the blanks and help Piper solve her case if only she can catch him before it’s too late. There was plenty of suspense, some funny sweet and steamy moments and I’m looking forward to more books about this quirky town.
This is the first book the in author's latest series, and it's related to her Midnight Security series. This is No Fail Heroes, set in the town of Phail. Piper's had a string of bad luck, and unwittingly brings trouble to town. Tony loves his home town, and falls for her while trying to keep her safe and grow the town. Phail is full of friendly people with a sense of humor about the name. And once they get to know Piper, they're intent on getting her to stay. Romance, suspense, old and new friends, and Oreo (the cutest stinkin' dog ever!) - all this and more making this a must read! Adorable: Piper and Troy were so cute together and I loved them both. However I think the French bulldog called Oreo eclipsed them when it came to the adorableness factor! This was a sweet and tender romance with just enough intrigue and suspense to balance everything out perfectly. I enjoyed the small town spirit and camaraderie, and with a name like Phail, you just know that there is fun to be had. I really look forward to spending more time here and getting to know the residents further. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
With love, danger, and a cute puppy, this novel has everything a romantic suspense reader could want. A woman with a heart of gold and a love for community is on the run from a string of bad luck, or maybe something worse, when she finds a lost puppy, and meets a sexy guy in jeans and a Henley who cares so much about his home town he's hired an urban planner with his own money to help revitalize the place. Meanwhile, strange lights in the woods and danger lurk in the dark. This super fun romantic suspense is a sweet and sexy read.
Yay! We are back in Phail, a chance to catch up with characters I loved, get to know some better and meet a whole host of new ones. I have really enjoyed getting to know Troy better, seeing him fall in love and seeing his hopes and dreams start to come true. I really liked the mix of romance, mystery, danger, friendships, family and a strong community, it was written well and held my attention. I am so looking forward to reading book 2 now!

I love Troy and Piper together! They fit so well right from the first moment. The story felt like it moved a little fast, but with two characters who are meant to be, why wait I guess! I always love getting to see characters from other series, and I am excited about the new characters in this series from Troy's past. This story has the small town charm, the meant for eachother characters, and that little bit of suspense and danger that I love! I can't wait for more!.

I enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading about Troy and Piper I had a hard time putting this book down. The characters are wonderful and the storyline grabbed my attention from the start. I don't want to give any spoilers so I won't give any details. However, I will recommend reading this book. It is so good.

I have been eagerly waiting to return to Phail, Vermont since I finished "Built of Steel", Lia & Joe's story and I can tell you that "No Good Deed" delivers, big time.
I absolutely love Piper & Troy's story. It was wonderful to see old friends from Midnight Lake, Marcus and other folks from Phail as they all helped Troy keep Piper safe. Their story wouldn't be complete without Oreo, of course.
Now my biggest problem is waiting for "No Going Back"!
No Good Deed is such a great start to a new series and I'm excited to read more about the residents of Phail. This story has a bit of everything, suspense, a little danger, mystery, family, friends, love, and a little steam, of course! Plus, the cutest dog every named Oreo! I really love Troy and Piper together and the banter and steam they bring. Great start to the series!.

This is an off shoot series and it blends perfectly with the other series about Phail. Characters are alive and cohesive with the others and the story. I can’t wait for book two!
2.75 this was hard for me to get into. I feel like I didn’t get to know the characters and something just felt off while reading it. Almost like the way it was written made me feel like something was constantly missing. It was ultimately a sweet book it just didn’t have the feels factor for me.
Sigh. Troy & Piper—what a sweet story!! There is a love story, a small town, dogs, great neighbors, and a little suspense thrown in! I completely enjoyed this book! Three cheers for sweet small town romances!
This book was so good. It left me with a smile on my face and a happy heart. It had just the right of suspense mixed in with all the surprise romance. Definitely recommend reading it and I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.
The first story in the No Fail Heroes. Troy Phail and Piper's story of drama, danger, suspense, twists, turns, romance and a happy ending. I want to read the next book.
book is neither good nor bad... i think the execution doesn't have enough "pull" to make you fully engrossed in it. my favorite thing about the book is the dog that the heroine saved.
