From the award winning author of An August Harvest and Another lifetime Ago. Based on his background and experiences, Ben takes you behind the scenes of Music City, exposing the ugly underbelly of the Nashville music industry. Everyone knew Raine Waters was destined to be a star; his talent was undeniable. But on his quest for fame and fortune, he lost himself in the bright Nashville lights, heading down the wrong road leaving his friends, his one true love...and his heart behind in Texas. Thirty years later, he’s broke, alone, and homeless, living on the street with nothing left of him but ashes...his music...and a daughter he has never met.
I love Ben Marney's books. This one was great also.
Raine Waters was an up and coming country music star. He had fame, looks and the fortune to back him, but he lost his soul and became someone no one knew anymore. He gave up the love of his life, Ginny, who was his girlfriend from high school, and started drinking and doing drugs.
He was to lose it all and 30 years later, he is homeless. He knew the wrongs he had done, but he couldn't give up the drinking. One day, someone changed his life. Someone that he knew all those years ago, she was a singer in his band. She took him, feed him, got him cleaned up and a job.
The one thing that Raine had always regretted was treating Ginny like he had. He had found out that he had a daughter by her, but when she tried to tell him all those years ago, he just threw money at her and told her to go away. Now, after all these years, he wants to just hold his daughter in his arms and tell Ginny he is sorry.
But, is it too late for Raine to make up for all those years? A great book, that will introduce you to the world of the music industry. Don't miss this one!
I hate writing reviews. I never know what to say. I don’t like reading reviews that retell the story. I want to know the depth, the characters, the emotion. I want to know if it was well written or cheesy. This book is good. It’s sad, in places it made me cry. It’s human. It has parts that aren’t realistic, but then everyone has a different view of reality. It exposes the pitfalls of fame, and shows how life can turn on a single word. Read it, especially if you have an interest in country music. Congratulations mr marney, you have a new fan and I’m a hard sell.
A story of my favorite genre and what the fame can do If you aren't a very strong person. I loved that one of the first main characters had my name(s), Virginia/Ginny, and I have a great-great-nephew named Jake. Raine and David both overcame great odds to become caring, giving people, and this book gives a heartbreaking insight into the plight of the homeless. Also, an interesting look into the music industry!
This book is the good, the bad and the ugly of the music business. It’s set in the Country Music genre, but could apply to any I’m sure. The story kept me interested and wondering what would happen next and how story lines would interconnect, even though it is a little dark - the bad and ugly parts. It’s a very good read and eye opener regarding the behind the scenes life of being in the music industry.
Read this book because I love the rockstar book genre and because the main characters are based from my hometown, Abilene. I pulled for Raine to find his happiness the whole book. Dave served his best friend well and honored him by helping the homeless through his foundation.
I’ve been crying for the last half hour reading the end of this book. Ben, your writing is superb. You are a master writer, and wordsmith. I recommend this book to everyone. I’m not a religious person, in fact I’m an atheist, but your story was perfect just the way it was.
This wasn't the usual genre that I read. But I read the synopsis and the reviews and my curiosity was peaked. I was not disappointed it was a great book and I will recommend it to all my book loving friends. It was well written and pulled at your heart strings. I look forward to reading more of his books. Ben Marney congratulations on your writing success.
I don't know where to begin....this is one of the best books I've ever read. Ben Marney is one of my favor authors now. This is a gotta read book!!!!! Not one dull moment. I highly recommend this book.
This is a fantastic book. I have read several of this authors books and I have enjoyed all of them. This one will keep you up all night because you will want to know what is going to happen next. Great book.
Your writing holds the attention of the reader like glue. Once you start reading you can't put it down until the last word has been read. Looking forward to the next one .
Captivating from the beginning, happiness, heartbreak, love and redemption. Life is complicated, tragic things happen to all of us. God has a purpose for our lives and the things that happen on our journey. We have to have faith and trust.
I like this. It started out strong with lots of angst and I was loving it. Part 2 of the book showcased the results decisions that the main male character made had on other characters. Part three and we have a tidy ending.
I loved this book, I read it in one day! Previously I read August Harvest and liked it so much that I downloaded more of his books. This one did not disappoint and I’m looking forward to reading more from Ben Marney.
I've read a few books by this author (all really good reads), but this one really had me in tears. I know that God must have surely blessed Mr. Marley with talent. He has in turn used this talent to send the glory back to God. Thank you, Mr. Marley.
I loved this book from beginning to the end, I could not put it down. It spans over many years and I loved each character as we got to know them. Pulled on the old heart strings and brought out the tissues. So well written.
This was an excellent book that I couldn’t put down and was sad to finish it. I wanted Raine’s story and his family to continue on. This book brought out so many emotions and touched my heart at so many levels. Highly recommend!
The story was thought provoking and shows how a person can be lifted again. I really loved the story and showed what true friendship means. I'd recommend this book.
