Zinnia

No one escapes Death. Especially when you're his consort.

Thankfully, the powerful god has mostly ignored me; we struck a bargain that allows me to travel between home and Limbo, then I'm his for eternity. I thought I had more time…except I just returned to find him without the cloak he always wears, and now everything has changed. I was forced to served him. Now, I burn for him.

Death sees all and demands my attention. But the unpredictable god cannot decide if he desires or despises me, and soon we're forced to journey to the Night Realm to save his brother. I'm swarmed with visions I can't explain and must uncover secrets that Death won't share. The longer I take, the angrier he becomes…yet my soul comes alive when he touches me.

However, the shadows are gathering and it's a race to uncover the truth. I must fight my way back to Death—or face a terrible evil that could tear my world apart.

A Bond in Flames is the sixth and final book in The Thornheart Trials series by Sherilee Gray. What a perfect finale this was for this series. It is Mors (the God of Death) and Zinnia’s book. It grabbed me from the very first page and held me right until the final page.

To protect her cousin, Zinnia Thornheart made a deal with Death. She will go to him in Limbo and be his Consort but for every month she is there, he must allow her to return home to be with her sister and family for one month. And so it went, for eighteen months, until upon her return to Limbo after a month at home, everything has changed. He has removed his always present cloak and she is seeing the man underneath for the first time. And when he touches her, it wakes up something inside of her she didn’t know she possessed.

When Zinnia and Mors are forced to travel to the dangerous Night Realm to help his brother, they learn more about each other and her hunger for him grows. But there are so many secrets. Secrets he claims he cannot divulge. That she must figure out on her own. And if she does, then she will have all the answers she needs.

Just as Zinnia is able to figure everything out, they are once again ripped apart and now Zinnia’s strength and magical abilities are stretched to their limits. But if she doesn’t find her way back, it just might be too late to save either of them.

Every book in this series was amazing. But this one both had me gripping my chair in utter disbelief at what these two had to go through and also, it had my heart breaking into a thousand pieces, mostly for Mors. It was a fantastic ending to this series. But don’t be sad because Sherilee has so much more she’s working on for us and I’m so excited about it.

“She was my queen, and I existed to bow at her feet. To worship only her.”

This is Ms. Gray’s best work yet!

May be a black-and-white image

What a fantastic series! I have loved each book, each character and each couple more than the one before. This one however blew away every expectation I had and then some.

This story took me by surprise with all of its layers. Each one building the tension and adding to the overall richness of the plot and its ultimate conclusion. I was totally consumed and found myself being pulled further in with each turn of the page.

Zinnia and Morse (Death) are a couple that I will not forget easily. Their evolving relationship ran me through my whole gamut of emotions. I found this a tangle of heartwarming, heart aching and heart wrenching, making me smile, swoon and not just cry, but sob my heart out! Without a doubt, this is my top favorite read.

Two souls meant to be together.

This story…WOW.
So powerful, breathtaking, utterly magnificent.

I was soooooo looking forward to this book. After reading the first five books in the series, the lead-up to this one had me vibrating with excitement. I just knew the author would knock it out of the park with Death & Zinnia’s story. She did just that, and then some.

Zinnia is a powerful, kick-ass witch. A gorgeous, stubborn, clever witch who will protect her loved ones at any cost. I loved her confidence, her fierceness, her loyalty. From her fiery red hair to her fearlessness to her adorable familiar named Hemlock to the magical powers she possessed, I do believe Zinnia has become my favorite heroine of the series.

Throughout this series, Death (aka Mors) has intrigued me. By the time this book came out, I was eager to dive in. I needed to know him. I craved his story. I loved, loved, loved the chapters from his POV. His feelings and emotions were palpable. Whether he was trembling with fury, shaking with need, or smiling with happiness & hope (yes, Death smiles! *major swoons*) I could feel everything he felt. I could visualize everything from his intense looks to the dark forests to the swirling cloak to the tattoos covering his body.

Beautifully penned words made this story unputdownable for me. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. When I was reading it, I was living it, breathing it, feeling it. It consumed me. I’m not surprised though, because that’s what Sherilee’s words do.

To see Zinnia finally figure out what she needed to figure out was a beautiful thing. It made my heart flutter and burst with so much happiness and satisfaction.

A Bond in Flames was captivating, heart-pounding goodness from start to finish. Bravo, Ms. Gray. I couldn’t love this book any harder if I tried. Out-fucking-standing.

The end of Thornheart trials is here. 💔 It's one of my favourite series and it felt bittersweet to read the last book.

I have been so excited to read about Death and Zinnia and Sherilee has done a fantastic job of building up their story throughout the other books. We did not know much about Death and his realm, it always felt so very mysterious and elusive that I could not wait to read about him.

I was not disappointed.

Death seemed like a complex and layered character but he was, in fact, very simple.
He only ever wanted to love and be loved.
To love and live with his family.

"She was my queen, and I would worship at her feet until the end of time. All she had to do was trust me.
Believe in me.
Stay with me.
Want me."
🥹🥹

(If Zinnia hadn't chosen him, I would've)

The story of their creation was beautiful and my heart broke when we finally found out Death's backstory. So much sorrow, so much pain and anger. And love.

“You don’t know this, my precious consort, but I am your humble servant. Anything you desire, all you need to do is ask, and I will bend and twist, I will contort my world to make it yours as well.”

Need I say more? *in love with Mors*

Wow...Wow...Wow!
Now, this is how you end a series !
Imagine your soul mate. Now imagine that same soul mate brutally taken from you along with something equally as precious. You have waited millenia for their return, and each incarnation of their soul returned to you gets taken away each time ,again and again until hope is renewed in the latest incarnation.
I never would have expected this turn this series took.
The Lord of Death finally gets his " Stella" back.
Loved the epilogue where all the sisters, cousins, and their respective SO's and children are together, and the final few pages with just the 3...beautiful.
Best book of this series by far!
One word for this book..Amazing!!!
Next up in the new series is Relic, and possibly the red headed demon?

A Bond in Flames🔥

The final Thornheart book in the series and it is a MASTERPIECE❣️I wish I could give it more than 5 stars as it is so deserving of more🤩

This book is emotional but brings in some new “beings” and concepts…especially considering we get to spend the majority of Zinnia’s time in Limbo with Death. An absolutely stunning conclusion to this series with a couple surprises that’ll rock your world❤️‍🩹

I’m excited for the new Bloodhounds series next to get a glimpse into what is becoming a favourite world of mine to be in😍 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review🙌

We've come to the end, and I'm so sad. I have loved this series with my whole heart, and I will never forget these characters.

Zinnia Thornheart is the reluctant, but fated, consort of Death. She must live with him in Limbo for a month, then she can return to her younger sister and family, for a month. But the deal is coming to an end, now that her sister Jasmine is almost 21, and is already mated. Soon, Zinnia will have to stay with him in Limbo forever. She is dreading the day, but there's nothing she can do about it.

Death worships the ground Zinnia walks on. Always has, always will. But she doesn't know that, because he has only slowly been coming back to himself after a long time fully disconnected from his emotions. She is the reason for his return, though she doesn't know that yet either. He's finally ready for things to change between them, but he has no idea if she'll be willing to let it happen. Especially since there are some things he just CAN'T tell her. She has to figure them out on her own.

Zinnia and Death dance around each other, miscommunicate, get frisky, fight, and repeat. There is so much they don't know or understand about each other, and they are both beyond stubborn, so frustration is their new hobby. During these times, when Zinnia was struggling, and missed the other ladies of the Thornheart coven, I was missing them fiercely too. They have always been a sounding board and helping hand to each other throughout the series. She felt so utterly alone in Limbo without them, and I felt bereft of their presence in the story too. We only see them when Zinnia returns to the family in brief intervals, and every time I just wanted more.

Zinnia and Death had a story, and a history, and a series of obstacles between them, and navigating all of that was brutal, and swoony, and frustrating, and wonderful. This couple worked so hard to be together, and watching them figure their stuff out was so satisfying.

This story was truly EPIC, with even more secrets and surprises than I had anticipated. It was such a fitting ending to this spectacular series, and I am so beyond grateful for these stories, and this author. One of the things I loved most about this series goes all the way back to book 1, and the hounds, and we will be getting more of them in their own spinoff series soon! I cannot wait.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This review is my personal opinion, voluntarily given.

Such an awesome end to the Thornheart series! I’ve been waiting for Zinnia and Death’s book and it was totally worth the wait. I saw the big revelation coming from the very beginning but it didn’t diminish the book at all. It actually made it better for me.
I can’t wait for more!!!!

www.t4.5stars-A BOND IN FLAMES is the sixth and final instalment in Sherilee Gray’s contemporary adult THE THORNHEART TRIALS erotic, paranormal, fantasy series focusing on the Thornheart females. This is twenty-eight year old witch Zinnia Thornheart, and Mors aka Death’s story line. A BOND IN FLAMES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Some of the events of A BOND IN FLAMES crosses over with some of the events of book three A TRIAL BY BLOOD.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Death and Zinnia) A BOND IN FLAMES follows the building but acrimonious relationship between our story line couple. Approximately thirteen years earlier, the god Death appeared to Zinnia in a dream, claiming our heroine as his consort, his intended mate but Zinnia refused his proclamations and in doing so, damned her life for all eternity. Fast forward to present day, Death comes to collect Zinnia’s cousin Rose, believing Rose is his intended mate until Zinnia reveals the sacrifice she made to protect herself. Agreeing to go with Death, albeit with some caveats, bargains and exceptions, Zinnia enters the Underworld to be forever bound to a man known as Death but someone else is working behind the scene s to ensure Death is alone for all eternity, and with it, the secrets reveal Zinnia’s true connections to our story line hero. What ensues is the building relationship between Zinnia and Death, and the potential fall-out as Death’s past refuses to let go, threatening our heroine in the process.

The world building is complex, detailed and dramatic. Zinnia must uncover the truth about her connection to Death, and in doing so, release the pain and suffering for the man with whom she is falling in love.

The relationship between Death and Zinnia is one of fated mates although Zinnia has the option of walking away but walking away would curse Death to a lifetime of pain and suffering, cursed by someone else. As Death and Zinnia’s relationship slowly turns into something more, Death must come to terms with his past, the potential loss of his brother, and the woman that has the ability to destroy his heart. The $ex scenes are erotic and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of powerful and sometimes questionable secondary and supporting characters. Most of Zinnia’s sisters and cousins return, as well as introduction of Death’s brother Somnus (god of dreams), their mother Nox, Death’s servant Egon, and Zinnia’s familiar Hemlock. The requisite evil has many faces.

A BOND IN FLAMES is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, magic and mayhem, gods and goddesses, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is haunting, twisted and edgy yet I easily guessed the who, what, how and why; the characters are enchanting, impassioned and magical; the romance is fated and seductive.

Fantastic!! Unable to set this book down kind of reading! I was sucked into Death's Limbo and I never wanted return.

Zinnia Thornheart is Death's consort, his wife, just plain...his and the thought of being such is mind boggling to her. Terrified and missing her family, it's not easy being stuck in Limbo - a place where souls reside in the in between, the place where Death calls home. She also doesn't make it easy on her new consort by rolling over and giving up. Settling in to her new home certainly has its bumps, but Zinnia is a warrior along with being a witch and she refuses to give up without a fight.

Death is secretive, he's moody, and he confuses Zinnia with his hot and cold emotions. His constant need for her to remember something that she has no idea she's forgotten is exhausting to say the least, but the more Death sheds of his grumpy demeanor, the more Zinnia is drawn to the broken man hidden underneath the dark cloak. Zinnia continually walks the edge between caring for the confusing man and missing her family, but as their arranged time draws closer to expiring, she wonders how crazy it really would be to stay.

This book was gripping, adventurous, and filled with a soul binding kind of love that you only find once in a lifetime. The kind of love that touches your heart, fills it with so much love you wonder how you lived without knowing this kind of story.🥰

more like 3.4 stars!

okay, this is by far not a bad book (in fact I had a lot of reading this series despite bits of repetitiveness)... but my 'lower' rating reflects that this book wasn't as great as my high expectations wanted it to be. i really liked zinnia throughout the series -- her tough and confident attitude (plus her being such a good sister to jazz) made me really root for her and i loved her first encounter with death in rose's book -- she was such a badass. that being said, the intrigue of having a god as a lover was also something i highly anticipated... but when they got together... it was just okay. and the whole them being both reincarnated from stars should've been cool but it was okay. the past life thing too, i don't know, the impact of knowing that didn't hit as hard. i am happy that they have marigold because zinnia getting her womb ripped out of her without her consent is absolutely horrifying and heartbreaking and the epilogue was sweet because we really see the thornheart family grow.

i'm not sure, maybe i just didn't like the main leads AS much? or since there was no trial, which i was favorably anticipating because it could get repetitive, i didn't feel the stakes as much? or maybe i just didn't like nox as a villain? the book is fine, but i don't think it just really hit the notes that i wanted it to.

This was by far my absolute favorite in this series! I am blown away by the storytelling talent of Sherilee. Death and Zinnia's story is full of heartbreak, but also a love so deep it transcends time. Everything about this book will stay with me forever!

I love the way she depicts Death. He starts out always in his cloak, very intense and cold. But the more time Zinnia spends with him, the more his Mors side comes out. Then he's more human. It was easy for me to fall for him. You can feel his pain and his love bleed through the pages.

Zinnia is a seriously powerful witch with such an amazing heart. She loves her family something fierce. There is so much that she has to discover about herself and she essentially has no help in doing so. I could feel her frustration as my own and couldn't stop reading until I too uncovered the mystery surrounding her and Mors.

This is a fast paced story filled with so much pain, but it's all worth the beautiful way it ends. I love this book with all of my heart! We finally get all the answers, we get to see the rest of the Thornheart family, and best of all, we get undying love. I'm sad this series is over, but I'm so happy I was able to be a part of it. Chef's kiss!

What an epic conclusion! I have loved all the books and sisters in the Thornheart Trials series, but this was by far my favorite. The relationship between Zinnia and Death builds beautifully throughout the book, and the way he starts to worship the ground she walks is just the chef's kiss!

This plot was not what I expected their story to be as it is very different from the other sisters' events and trials, but it was a positive surprise nonetheless!

Their relationship truly starts to develop when they have to travel to a different realm together. Zinnia gets to see a different side of Death, a side she can't help but admire, and she has to question why she disliked him in the first place, despite her being forced to live in his realm and being his fated consort.

The speed of the events unfolding toward the end of the book increases significantly, but I still didn't feel like the pacing of the book was off in any way. I liked that a lot of time was dedicated to the deepening of their relationship. It helped me understand the characters and their actions better.

I will miss the Thornheart sisters so much, but I am happy that we still get to spend time in this world with the continued book series about the Hell Hounds!

I need more of Sommus & Pascal.

Asi quedaria mi top:
1. A bond in Flames (Literally star-crossed lovers and soulmates) Ojala puedan cambiar el hecho que puedan tener otro hijo.
2. An Oath at Midnight (Magnolia & Bram, dios me desesperaban pero I like a brood bad boy & stubborn witch with dark side)
3. A Promise of Ashes (Jaz & Ren son los únicos que tendra una vida mortal? por favor no!)
4. A Vow of Ruin (Gracias que es Google Books, descubrí la serie y pude adentrarme en Roxburgh)
5. A Curse in Darkness (No lo leido)
6. A Trial by Blood (Siento que este libro para mi fue el mas que me costo conectar con Rose&Ronan)

It’s bittersweet to read the end of the Thornheart Trials. This series is so special. This family, filled with beautiful magic and love is one I didn’t want to let go of. But Zinnia & Death’s story was the perfect send off for the magical world Sherilee Gray has created!

These two characters, and the journey they go through was intense. It was heartbreaking, it was sexy, it was just everything I’ve come to love in Sherilee’s books!

I didn’t think I would love Death’s character as much as I did. He's was such complex and broken character, yet so powerful and very intense. He would do anything for the few he loves.

Ziannia, I’ve loved her since she first came onto the page. Like all the Thornheart women. She is beauty, and goodness, with a big heart, willing to sacrifice for those she loves. She’s a protector, and so kick***!

A bond in flames was a book that keeps you going page after page and one that will leave you with tears. So sad for it to end, but so excited for more in the same realm as my favorite witches!

OMG I loved this so much!!! What a fantastic ending to a fantastic series!! I'm always a little hesitant when i start a series by a 'new to me author'...i started with the Knights of Hell series and moved on to the Thornheart Trials series (a spin off series to the Knights of Hell)... but holy cow, am i glad i gave these a shot! I have read every single book one after the other, reading no other books in between, and not once did things feel repetitive, every single book had it's own unique story line and they were SO GOOD...they're full of action, suspense, they're emotionally angsty and there's plenty of romance and steam to make this girl happy. I seriously can't get enough. Sherilee Gray has definitely cemented herself as one of my all time favorite paranormal romance authors and i will be reading any and all PNR she puts out!! If you are a lover of PNR, do yourself a favor and read these!!

I loved it. It was so emotional and intriguing and sexy and just a little of everything, really.

Even though I figured out the big secret plot early on it didn't bother me at all because I was dying to learn the details and learn how everything happened. It was just so fascinating.

I really did love this story. Which is surprising given how long it had been since I read anything from this series, which included skipping the two books before this one because they didn't interest me and the reviews further cemented my decision to skip them. So in a way it read almost like a standalone with a little familiarity regarding certain characters I did vaguely remember but it didn't hinder my enjoyment at all. If anything I'm ready to jump right into the hellhound series now that I've been reintroduced.

But yeah, loved it. Nice way to wrap the series and explain the history of the witches.

Does it really have to end? #bittersweetfeelings 😭😍❤️

OMFG!, while I loved all of the previous books in this series, Zinnia and Mors' story is just... #everything #allthefreakingfeels #cantfindtherightwords #myhearthurts #awesomenessinanotherlevel #iamfreakingdead #itwillstaywithmeforever
I intensely felt and cried and laugh with every Thornheart girl, but this, this story destroyed me like no other and will stay with me for a long time; it hurt so bad I cried for a while but didn’t stop reading, because this magnificent story is worth every tear and every minute of heartache and I will do it again just to be able to enjoy this, out of this world, love story! 💔😭😍❤️
I will miss these wonderful women and their families, even though I guess and hope they may appear in the next (spin-off) series; can't wait! 🖤🔥

Okay I can see what she was going for and I actually loved the second half of the story pretty much beginning after she left and her aunt(?) died.

I can see how the revelation made the firat half make sense but the first half was just a annoying slog. Even though it's explained why he couldn't tell her, why he was so messed up, why he was angry and angry at her. It just made me distrustful and get a bit of ick from him before it all made sense. She even said it herself it was toxic and the only good times they really had were in bed. Have no answer of how she could have avoided that.

And like I said, second half was freaking awesome. But overall it just didn't come together the way I hoped it would. Worth the read though and I'm sure younger angstier me would have loved it just that bit more.

Sherilee’s done it again. She’s given her readers a beautiful closure on the Thornheart Trials series. As the last book, A Bond in Flames captivates the readers and takes us on a twisted and emotional journey. Just when you think you can predict what’s to come, you are taken completely by surprise. We waited a long time to hear Death and Zinnia’s story and it is well worth the wait. Sherilee was able to transform Death before our eyes and reveal his true depth and his heart. This story was beautifully written and has become one of my favourites. Highly recommended this entire series. With strong heroines, alphas, passion- it’s one that you will enjoy!

Rated 4.5 Stars

A Bond In Flames was amazing. It took a bit for me to get into as I found it a bit slow moving but when it took off it sucked me right in. It was action and magic packed. There were edge of the seat, heart in my throat moments, lots of angst and steam. I adored it. It had gothic fantasy and phantom of the opera vibes. The story was wild, jam packed with twists and turns. I loved going on this journey of discovery and love with Zinnia and Death. It was definitely a worthy and fitting end to an amazing series. I highly recommend it as well as the previous books in the series.

This was the perfect conclusion to the Thornheart series! I had been wanting to see what happened with Zinnia since Rose's book, and I was not disappointed. I couldn't put it down and read through within a few hours. You know a book is good when you physically shake your e-reader because of your frustration with a character, ha-ha. I became a fan of Sherilee Gray's through her Knight of Hell series and was excited when I saw that she had a spinoff series featuring the Thornheart sisters. Both series are amazing, and I can't wait for the next spinoff featuring the Hellhounds.

Why is it over?

Again it's taken less then a day for read a book turnover waited a year for, but that is what Sherilee Gray does. Her writing sucks you in, gives you all the feels and spits you out, leaving you wanting more.

Also whoever thought Death would be anyone's book boyfriend? Well he was mine throughout this book. I now feel a book hangover coming on.

I need to ask.Sherilee one thing, when are we getting Lucfier's book? Please don't make.me.wait another year!!!

Absolutely gutted the Thornheart Trials are over.......what's next?

cannot give this enough stars!

I have been looking forward to this book for so long and it was amazing. I really don’t feel like five stars is enough. It was, as always, beautifully written. The world that Ms. Gray weaves is frighteningly exquisite. The characters so perfectly broken and yet strong and you can’t help but either love them or despise them. You are drawn right into every scene. While I’m sad to see this series end because I adore this family, the ending was superb. I can’t wait for the next series. Excited to see how Relic reacts to finding his mate.

holy hell, this book took me on a wild ride. its giving hades/persephone but sooo much better! zinnia is a badass, she is kind and loving - and completely clueless for such a long time. death is all you imagine him to be, volatile, desperate, intense, and its everything you want and more. i adored this story, and so sad to see the series end, but it gave me so much happiness and joy, and sorrow, frustration, anger, all the good stuff. i cannot recommend this series more, its my favourite fantasy series of all time! please read it!!

What a fantastic end to a brilliant series! I ate up every page of this, the mythology, the romance, the gloom, the twists and turns, the beauty, the throwbacks to all my fave characters from earlier in the series, the spice, the heartbreak and the love. Even though it’s the last in the series, it was so fresh and different, but totally loyal to the heart of it all. My only regret is that I read it so fast, I just wanna go back in time and experience it all again!!! I was lucky enough to get an ARC and this is my heartfelt and genuine review 💕

Honestly this book was beautifully written and a perfect conclusion to the Thornheart family. Enemies to lovers, fated mates, great story telling and world building. The BEST spice (of course as Sherilee always does). There was an action packed plot but also an amazing love story, mind blowing twists and turns, this book has it all!! From the Knights of Hell, to the Thornhearts and now I cannot wait to read about the Hellhounds in the next spin off series ! 10/10
