A painfully honest, inspiring memoir of a man whose broken back taught him to stand in his truth. One moment, Grant Korgan had everything he’d ever wanted—a successful career, a new marriage to the love of his life, and an athletic body that enabled his constant pursuit of world-class adventure sports. The next, he found himself lying in the snow, with no feeling or movement below his belly button.
But this is not a book about the paralyzing grip of a spinal cord injury, or the struggle to walk again. Rather, Grant’s story of survival, unbound love, endless gratitude, and the limitless power of unwavering positivity is one that applies to us all. It’s about living big, remembering and finding the greatness that lies within all of us, and living the highest version of yourself regardless of your circumstances.
Determined not to change a single goal of the past, the Korgans embarked on an unconventional, activity-based recovery plan that bucked the prognosis that Grant’s long-cherished independence was gone forever. Two Feet Back is Grant’s account of this incredible first year of recovery, the Korg 3.0 movement it inspired, and how the path to getting back on his own two feet back gave him a lot more than he bargained for.
The Korgans share their story with such freshness and honesty, it gives the reader permission not to feel sorry, but rather hopeful, throughout the book. In reading "Two Feet Back", there is always a goal, always something to try, a fresh push forward in Grant's recovery efforts because the Korgan's choose to see the possible rather than the impossible, and it pays off.
In police training we are taught that sometimes when people are shot, they will lay down and prepare to die, even if their actual injuries are not life threatening. Death comes needlessly due to bleeding, when a small action such as applying a tourniquet would have saved them. As officers, we are trained to fight, never to give up, even if we are shot or injured, and "Two Feet Back" beautifully articulates this premise. Grant is told to prepare for a different life than he had envisioned, he fights, never giving up though he was injured, and he continues to improve, stepping ever closer to living the life he and Shawna had designed for themselves.
In "Two Feet Back" Grant Korgan expresses rare tenacity, determination and strength. He and Shawna's beautiful example of love and hope is remarkable and something every reader will want to learn from, and if they're smart, aspire to emanate in their own lives and relationships. In a nutshell, this book promotes action based on positivity - how can you go wrong?
This is an incredible story of love, endurance, possibility and, most importantly, positivity. On the outside, it's about a guy recovering from a spinal cord injury, but it turns out that the most important component in healing is what goes on inside. I recommend it to anyone and everyone who likes to be inspired, who appreciates love, who wants to do more with their life, who believes that anything is possible.
This book is truly amazing, which is even an understatement for how much I enjoyed this book! It honestly has given me a new view on my problems and is allowing me to choose a much more positive and fulfilling path for my future. The Korgan's are an incredibly inspirational couple, and the story behind it all has inspired me to pursue many different avenues! I would recommend this book "120%"!!(;
A very inspirational book. My friend dropped it off and the timing could not have been better. I was beginning to get discouraged - actually said out loud that my nerve pain may be permanent. This book gave me the kick I needed to keep fighting. It's not that well written and highly emotional, but one cannot help but be inspired by his optimism and determinism. And, it reminds you to see beauty in all situations.
