This highly anticipated follow-up to The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp finds Agnes and her octogenarian friends face-to-face with a killer after winning a trip to a beautiful hotel in the seaside town of Cornwall.

For me, these characters in this novel were difficult to care about, and not liking the characters is a fiction deal-breaker for me. Are we supposed to be laughing at these elderly residents sharing a house? So many stereotypes—Agnes, the cranky old woman with dentures, hearing aids, and a walking stick, and her boarders: Marshall, the ex-military man; Winston, confined to a wheelchair; Bernadette, the obese blind woman; Edwina, the dotty woman who travels with both an inflatable turtle and her late friend’s ashes and befriends a snake; and Charlie, the much married woman with money. (I did wonder why the woman with enough money to underwrite the cost of the trip would not have her own place.) They embark on a vacation to a fancy resort which has limited outside access, and guests start getting murdered—another familiar trope. Apparently I may be an outlier since there are many positive reviews; I was hoping for something similar to the Thursday Murder Club, but was disappointed. I received an advance copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Fortsetzung von "Mord in Sunset Hall"
Diese Fortsetzung hätte ich beinahe verpasst, denn das Cover sieht so völlig anders aus als das von Band 1: Mord in Sunset Hall. Das neue gefällt mir auch ehrlich gesagt überhaupt nicht und ich weiß auch nicht, was der Hund darauf zu suchen hat (auch wenn nebenher einer vorkommt). In den Büchern von Leonie Swann tummeln sich ja öfter mal Tiere und während es im ersten Teil eine Schildkröte war (die momentan Winterruhe hält), findet Edwina einen etwas ungewöhnlichen Ersatz.
Aber von vorne. Die Senioren WG, die wir ja schon kennenlernen durften, besteht aus den unterschiedlichsten Charakteren, die alle aber auf ihre Art schrullig und ihren Macken fest verwachsen sind.
Da wäre die blinde Bernadette, die früher für den Geheimdienst gearbeitet hat, der im Rollstuhl sitzende Winston, der gerne Berechnungen anstellt und mit Zahlen jongliert, der militärische Marshall, der immer eine Auge auf alle hat, die sphärische Edwina mit Honig im Kopf und der etwas extravagante Neuzugang Charlie.
Und natürlich die Hauptperson des ganzen: Agnes Sharp.
Durch ein Preisausschreiben kommen sie alle in den Genuss eines Urlaubs - allerdings in einem Öko-Hotel, an der Küste von Cornwall. Keine einfache Sache, denn jeder stellt sich unter "Urlaub" etwas anderes vor und schon die Zimmeraufteilung birgt Konfliktpotenzial.
Natürlich lässt auch der erste Mord nicht lange auf sich warten und Agnes fühlt sich verpflichtet, dem Täter auf die Spur zu kommen!
Ich finde die Art von Leonie Swann immer sehr erfrischend! Der Schreibstil ist mit viel Humor gewürzt, die betagten Protagonisten sind mit all ihren Spleens und Beeinträchtigungen ein liebenswertes und etwas anstrengendes Team, das aber immer für Unterhaltung sorgt.
Überhaupt ist hier eine Menge geboten, so viele kleine Vorfälle und rätselhafte Ereignisse, dass man gar nicht weiß, wo man mit seinen Überlegungen und Verdächtigungen anfangen soll. Dabei bleibt es aber dennoch übersichtlich, auch wenn ich bis zum Schluss gerätselt habe, was nun hinter all den Heimlichkeiten stecken mag.
Am Ende wird jedenfalls alles schlüssig aufgelöst und es gibt einige Überraschungen.
Die Perspektiven wechseln immer wieder zwischen den Senioren, aber im Mittelpunkt steht Agnes. Sie ist ja ein etwas schwieriger Charakter: oft ruppig und kratzfüßig, um nichts und niemanden zu nahe an sich heranzulassen, aber sie hat einen ausgeprägten Gerechtigkeitssinn und das Herz auf dem rechten Fleck. Sie tut viel gutes, aber eben so, dass andere es nicht so mitbekommen.
Insgesamt hat es mir auf jeden Fall wieder sehr gut gefallen :)

Der Küster hängt an einem Glockenstrang und nicht nur ihn, hat in dem Städtchen Duck End, ein frühzeitiges Ende getroffen. Dazu wird die Senioren WG von Agnes Sharp vom Winter gebeutelt, der Boiler ist defekt und die Heizung streikt auch. Mit der Post kommt ein Brief für Edwina, die plötzlich glückliche Gewinnerin eines Aufenthalts in einem Ökoluxus-Hotel an der Küste Cornwalls ist. Schnell sind sich die Senioren einig, es wird Zeit die Koffer zu packen und Urlaub zu machen. Doch die Freude währt nicht lange, denn Agnes beobachtet jemanden dabei, wie er eine andere Person die Klippen hinunterschubst und schnell wird klar, hier ist ein eiskalter Mörder am Werk.
Ich habe schon den ersten Teil 'Mord in Sunset Hall' geliebt, aber dieser Teil hat mir noch besser gefallen. Die älteren Herrschaften haben alle ihre schrulligen Angewohnheiten und das eine oder andere Handicap, doch das hält sie nicht davon ab, auf eigene Faust zu ermitteln. Der Humor ist herrlich schwarz und hat mich häufig zum Schmunzeln gebracht, dazu kommt ein interessanter Spannungsbogen, herrlich skurrile Momente und viele Verdächtige. Ich mochte besonders gern die Damen der Senioren WG, die sich mit neuem Hörgerät, einer Schlange und einem mysteriösen Gothic-Typen herumschlagen müssen und dann spannt auch noch Amor seinen Bogen. Es war für mich ein Lesegenuss, bei dem ich miträtseln konnte und doch sehr lange im Dunklen getappt bin. Ich hoffe sehr, dass die Autorin bereits an einem neuen Krimi-Abenteuer für Agnes und ihre Gang schreibt.

This is a fairly entertaining, closed-circle murder mystery in which Agnes and her other geriatric house-mates go on holiday to a romantic eco-resort, that gets cut off from the rest of the country during a storm. Agnes is obsessed with finding the killer, Bernadette meets up with an old flame who is on a "job", Charlie just wants to have fun (preferably the alcoholic kind), Lilith tags along in her coffee jar (hazards of being cremated), and Edwina absconds with a white boa constrictor.... oh, and Edwina stashes a young man in her closet... because that's just Edwina. And the bodies just keep piling up. A fun little murder mystery, with quirky characters, that dragged a bit in the middle, but the ending turned out nicely, if a bit too conveniently.

I wish I could write how much I liked ‘Agnes Sharp and the Trip of a Lifetime’ by Leonie Swann, but I can’t. I was charmed (and a little frightened) by book one, ‘The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp’. This novel was a little too shallow, and a lot less sharp, so to speak.

Perhaps it is the German to English translation, idk, but ‘Trip’ was not as good as the first novel. The characterization was off to me. The first book, which introduces the octogenarians who also are the main characters in this novel, showcased the idiosyncracies and the effects of dementia with some fun and heartwarming depth as facts were gathered together in a somewhat haphazard manner to solve the murder mystery. This novel seemed deficient in everything - charm, and enough depth and descriptions to care about the people or the scares. There is a cliffhanger, literally, so maybe a third book is planned. If readers pick up this book first, though, I don’t think they will want to continue with the series, if it is supposed to be a series.
Anyway, two and a half stars. I liked the snake.

I was better prepared this time for the type of story I would be getting with this 2nd book in the “Agnes Sharp” series, and consequently, enjoyed it more. Not surprisingly, the story was a complete farce, but that is exactly what I expected it to be. I think one really needs to be in the mood for this type of thing in order to enjoy it… I was and I did.
I have a couple of criticisms:
Whover produced this audiobook needed to do a better job indicating the paragraph breaks. I can’t tell you how many times I became completely baffled, and had to back the story up after something appeared seemingly out of the blue.
Also, I could have done without all the dream sequences. I felt they were a distraction and added nothing to the story except more confusion.

Second in the Agnes Sharp series, this is just as clever and engaging, Instead of the POV of a tortoise (who is hibernating) we have a white snake. Also the POV of several human characters, including Agnes herself. The housemates have decamped to an eco-tourist hotel on the British coast because their heater is broken, and this provides an interesting setup for a series of murders. Agnes isn't quite as sharp as she was in the previous book; she appears to be losing her faculties yet is still able to piece together the puzzle. The wacky set of characters from Sunset Hall are joined by new ones including a frightened young man and a vengeful widow. An intriguing read.

This was quirky and sometimes fun, and I think I liked it better than the first, BUT--apart from Swann's vague attempts at throwing red herrings at us, there was only ever really one suspect .
The first book felt like it was transparently trying to build off of the popularity of The Thursday Murder Club (although, I say that having not actually checked the pub dates)--basically: a bunch of old people--who have interesting pasts--who everyone else have written off band together to solve a crime. hurrah! But here's the thing, and this is what I've realized bothers me about the Agnes Sharp books: they're basically the mirror image of the Osman series. There, they all, despite seeming incompetent or out of touch, are all actually quite useful. Here, most of the plot is built around them bumbling around and making mistakes (and again, how old are they supposed to be? I get the sense that they're maybe in their mid-70s, but they read like they're both in their, what, 90s? seconds from death? and have also been transplanted into present day straight from like 1942-- "what is a phone?! how does the iNterNet wOrk?!"), only stumbling on answers once they've gotten to a reasonable word count...and I could forgive that (there's a fair amount of bumbling interspersed into the Thursday series, if I'm being honest), even if it's a profound waste of a high concept (how fun to have slightly out-of-date expertise! So fun to put 1970s knowhow to use today, etc. etc....instead of them just being like, "man, I used to not be totally useless! Sucks to be old! I am totally useless now! Wait. Here's a killer, who will helpfully go all Bond-villain on me and explain everything")...but here's the real killer (as it were): While Osman's series is great because it's about people who genuinely love each other, and respect each other, and see the value in what each of them bring to the table, this seems to be about a group of people who are profoundly irked by one another and only stick together because it's too hard not to. That's a profound bummer!

This is the second book following the same cast of characters from 'The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp'. A book that I swear by as cozy old detective mystery, one can read over and over.
This time the house mates have decided to go on a little trip to avoid the freezing discomforts. But, wherever they go, trouble follows & if only Agnes & her housemates were a little less conspicuous, they wouldn’t be the target. The mystery is setup in a hotel which is considered a relaxing retreat, though the recent events have left both the residents and workers alarmed.
The mystery element is on the lighter end, whereas the descriptions of sparky characters & the challenges of navigating through an old age is fairly put up. Read this if you are looking for less complicated things in life that are entertaining but not taxing on your mind.

I understand that producing an audiobook is expensive, and having more narrators is even more expensive, BUT if you have MORE THAN ONE POV, you need to make sure the reader CAN TELL THEM APART.
I mean, we literally have the POV of the freaking snake and the narrator didn't do a 'ssssss' on anything?! Ruined opportunity! There wasn't a very clear-cut way to know for sure who was the MC in the chapter you were in, until they talked about themselves or someone else said their name towards them.
They thought way too closely to each other. I feel like this is the biggest hurdle when having multiple POVs is to make sure their inner thoughts are DIFFERENT, as they're different people and shouldn't have the same sentence structure, vocab, thought processes as each other. Using chapter titles to tell you who is who DOESN'T WORK when the narrator isn't saying those titles out loud, and if I'm listening a book, I'm busy, too busy to check what the app says the title is called either.
Agnes isn't my favorite MC, she does very dumb things and doesn't think of what could happen as result of those dumb things.
LOVED the snake though, just wanted it to say 'sssss' once!
Edwina was a silly character who I did like, but she trusts way too easy and idk who she can be what she is with her aloof attitude, but maybe it makes it work way better, who knows. (trying to be spoiler free here!) But every single time her name was said, or when it was her POV, I just had the Edwina from Bridgerton in my head.
Overall, if there was another narrator added, or they had the og one do a different voice for each POV, I would have rated it 4 stars easily.

Die Senioren machen Urlaub – doch ohne Mordermittlung geht´s auch hier nicht
In Sunset Hall ist es kalt, der Boiler ist kaputt und Agnes Sharp ist genervt. Als sie dann auch noch im Glockenturm den toten Küster entdeckt, ist das das Tüpfelchen auf dem i. Wie passend, dass Edwina eine Reise gewonnen hat. Ein erfreulicher Tapetenwechsel! Im Öko-Luxushotel angekommen teilen sie sich immer zu zwei ein Zimmer. Wobei: Edwina hat ja auch noch Lillith dabei, die ehemalige Bewohnerin, die mittlerweile das Zeitliche gesegnet hat, in ihrer Urne dennoch Teil von Sunset Hall ist und überall hin mitdarf. Und Hettie 2, die aufblasbare Schildkröte als Ersatz für die echte Hettie, ist auch mit dabei. Doch Entspannung ist nicht. Denn Agnes beobachtet einen Mord an den Klippen. Und Edwina stolpert im Poolbereich über eine Frauenleiche. Was sie jedoch verschweigt. Dafür hat sie dort Oberon gefunden, eine weiße Boa, die Edwina natürlich direkt adoptiert hat. Ach ja, nicht zu vergessen Mojo, der Jungspund mit den lackierten Fingernägeln, der es sich in Edwinas Schrank gemütlich gemacht hat. Als dann auch noch die dritte Leiche auftaucht und das Hotel durch einen Erdrutscht von der Öffentlichkeit abgeschnitten ist, ist den Senioren längst klar: wir stecken in der Klemme und wir müssen den Täter finden, bevor er oder sie erneut zuschlägt.
Herrlich, die Senioren wieder zu treffen! Ich habe mich so drauf gefreut und wurde nicht enttäuscht. Wie von Leonie Swann nicht anders erwartet, erlebe ich einmal mehr eine spannende und durch und durch humorvolle, sehr köstliche Geschichte, typisch englisch und herrlich schwarzhumorig und (vor allem Dank Edwina) wundervoll schräg. Die Figuren sind greifbar, liebenswert und eindrücklich. Die Dialoge (und Agnes´ Gedankengänge) witzig und lebendig. Der Kriminalfall selbst vielseitig, spannend und zumindest bis zu einem gewissen Punkt für mich nicht vorhersehbar. Irgendwann wusste ich, wer die Taten begangen hat, ich wusste nur nicht, warum. Und das dann aufgelöst zu bekommen, war allerbeste Unterhaltung. Wie immer spielen bei Leonie Swann auch Tiere eine Rolle. In diesem Buch eben Hettie, die Schildkröte, Brexit der Hund kommt auch kurz vor, dann im Hotel ein Corgi und Oberon die Schlange, sowie die eine oder andere Möwe. Ich mag das total, weil das für mich die ganze Sache noch einen Tick liebenswerter macht. Wie die Autorin mit dem Thema Altwerden/Altsein umgeht, ist herzerfrischend und – bei allem Humor – immer respektvoll.
Ein Krimi zum Wohlfühlen, zum Schmunzeln und Lachen. Kurzweilige, erfrischende Unterhaltung mit liebgewonnenen Charakteren und einem Setting, dass bei mir sofort Fernweh auslöst. Hoffentlich ermittelt Miss Sharp noch lange Zeit weiter; auch wenn sie schon über 80 Jahre alt ist.

In "Agnes Sharp and the Trip of a Lifetime," our famous fumbling senior sleuths get -- you guessed it -- the trip of a lifetime to a luxury, romantic spa. Of course, this group can't go anywhere without stumbling into a murder mystery. Although they all have backgrounds that would seem to equip them well for such investigations, things don't always go as smoothly as anyone might like.
This is a fun series featuring often-befuddled senior citizens with a host of physical and mental laments.

Agnes Sharp and the Trip of a Lifetime
Agnes’ boiler is on the blink, her housemates are quite a lot to handle and that's before people start getting murdered!
To escape all these troubles Agnes and Co decide to take a holiday to a very fancy but maybe too good to be true hotel hoping that their troubles can't possibly follow them to this isolated spot, but trouble always finds a way.
This is a fun and light hearted mystery with enough humour to keep it ticking along nicely. I found the characters fun and instantly distinguishable. I also appreciated the author not leaning too heavy on older people traits for the characters, the leads were portrayed as people who happen to be elderly not elderly people as their entire personality. Although it's the second in the series this didn't seem to matter too much and you can confidently read it in isolation.

Czy kiedyś uciekając przed problemem wpadliście w jeszcze większy problem? Ja pewnie tak, chociaż im jestem starsza, tym bardziej konfrontacyjna wobec ludzi i świata jestem, więc nie umiem przytoczyć takiej sytuacji ot tak.
Nasza dzisiejsza bohaterka, emerytowana policjantka Agnes Sharp właśnie znajduje się w takiej sytuacji. Kiedy w końcu dorobiła się aparatu słuchowego jedną z pierwszych usłyszanych rzeczy były przeciągłe dzwony kościelne, co postanowiła sprawdzić. Zaglądając do dzwonnicy znalazła obciążającego jeden ze sznurów... trupa zachrystiana. I prawie zadzwoniłaby na policję, ale przypomniała sobie jak ta jest ostatnio niekompetentną i że pewnie musiałabym sama rozwiązywać te sprawę. A ostatnio to już było za wiele. Wycofując się z miejsca wydarzenia uznaje, że to nie dla niej, a okazja na opuszczenie miejscowości, w której ciągle coś się dzieje pojawia się dosyć szybko. Jedna z emerytek, z którą dzieli dom wygrywa wycieczkę do okolicznego hotelu, więc całą ekipa (oprócz emerytowanej policjantki mamy tu tez np. wojskowego, kobietę mafii czy tajnego szpiega - oczywiście wszyscy emerytowani, niektórzy ślepi, inni z demencją. I choć urlop zapowiada się na dobry wypoczynek to hotel zostaje odcięty od świata, a w hotelu pojawia się ponownie jakiś trup.
To historia o staruszkach, którzy mimo zmęczenia sobą nawzajem wspierają się w potrzebie, ale każdy ma swoje tajemnice. To nie jest historia detektywistyczna, w której ekipa Scooby-Doo z domu starości wpada na trop - to trop wpada na nią, a oni sprytnie go omijają snując swoje "delulu" wizje co mogło się stać. Mimo, ze historia zbrodni jest poważna, to jednak dzięki bohaterom absurd goni absurd, a człowiek na emeryturze zdecydowanie chciałby wylądować z wariatami. W tym tomie do głosu dochodzą też inni bohaterowie , a raczej dwie z bohaterek dostają swoje własne wątki, z których jeden był moim ulubionym i głównie dla niego czytałam książkę: bohaterka wierzy, że wygrana to tylko przykrywka dla kolejnej tajnej misji i wyszukując kolejnych "znaków" kończy z wężem w łazience i młodym człowiekiem (całkowicie żywym!) w szafie.

Verbrechen im Hotel
Edwina gewinnt einen Aufenthalt in einem Hotel ausgerechnet als mitten im Winter die Heizung in Sunset Hall ausfällt und der Monteur keine freien Termine hat. Kurzentschlossen reist also die gesamte "Bande" samt Plastik-Hettie-Ersatz, Agnes' neuen Hörgeräten sowie Ersatzunterhose und Lillith. Lillith?? Dumm nur, dass Agnes erst meint, einen Mord eventuell vielleicht - oder doch nicht? - beobachtet zu haben, dann eine Leiche auftaucht, die damit nichts zu haben kann - oder doch? - und zu alledem das Hotel von der Außenwelt abgeschnitten wird. Dazu hat Agnes einen Flirt, Charlie ein handfestes Abenteuer und Bernadette trifft auf eine alte Liebe aus einem früheren Leben. Wie üblich schaffen es die Bewohner auch, es sich mit allen anderen zu verscherzen, so dass ihre Ermittlungen im Zimmerarrest eingeschränkt werden. Leider mussten Schildkröte Hettie und Wolfshund Brexit daheim bleiben, werden aber ganz ordentlich vertreten durch den wärmeliebenden Oberon und die Corgies im Hotel. Aber warum Edwina einen Mann im Schrank versteckt, dass sollte jeder selbst lesen. Und wie das Verbrechen aufgeklärt wird.
Ich habe wieder Anna Thalbach mit großem Genuss zugehört. Sehr sehr amüsant und ich hoffe auf einen dritten Band.
Was man ignorieren sollte: Handlungskontinuität und lose Fäden. Ist egal, das Buch ist zu unterhaltsam. Der Marschall hat plötzlich kaum noch Probleme mit beginnender Demenz, Agnes und ihre Pillen scheinen kein Thema mehr zu sein und was Charlie früher gearbeitet hat, ist im Gegensatz zu allen anderen einerseits eher im Dunkeln (sowas wie eine Krankenschwester, eventuell, kurzzeitig) und hatte andererseits als einzige nichts mit Verbrechen zu tun. Gelegentlich frage ich mich auch nach Gründen für Edwinas Verhalten auf dem Niveau einer glücklichen 8-jährigen; bislang vermute ich irgendein Trauma. Oder sie wurde geblitzdingenst. Wie im ersten Band, verläuft auch hier ein Handlungszweig im Nichts: der Küster und weitere.

The second Agnes Sharp gets off to an uneven start and I was skeptical of the location change, but once we’re settled in to the mystery the book finds its rhythm and there’s lots to enjoy. There are also a few to many tangents that pull you out of the main story, like a random love interest for Bernadette that comes totally out of the air midway through the book. However, Swann keeps the story entertaining , with bits of sharp humor and the right amount of twee mixed with brutality.

This is an entertaining read, full of quirky characters that seem to find murder wherever they go. At the beginning Agnes finds something that she needs to discuss with the other residents of Sunset Hall. However when she gets there she finds the housemates waiting as the slightly eccentric (although may be more than slightly) Edwina has a letter. When Agnes reads it, it states that she has won a romantic break for two in a secluded Cornish Spar hotel called Eden. Just one problem, Edwina can’t go alone so who else can go. As it turns out the boiler at Sunset Hall is not working and the plumber is very slow at dealing with it. In the end all of them go. But for Edwina that means taking a lot of items including Lilith in her vase and a blow up tortoise.
There are several novels appearing now on the market where it’s a group of seniors trying to solve murders. These characters are all interesting, some slightly wacky, but it seems that murder follows them. Agnes is always very observant. Edwina is convinced that this trip is a secret mission and when she finds a large snake called Oberon she believes her mission is to protect him. Although some of the others aren’t keen on sharing a room with a snake. I know I wouldn’t be.
This is book 2 in the series, if you have read book one you will already know some things about the characters. This can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. I have to say when I first read what they had won I had expected them to be having to exercise and live off of lettuce leafs and air.
The housemates are all hoping to have a lovely break away from home, but it seems that just might not happen. Agnes witnesses something but what. She also gets caught a couple of times nosing around. The characters as usual are all a quirky bunch, put them together and they make a good team. Edwina hates to leave anything behind, but is delighted to have found the snake. If I go away on holiday I think I would leave most things behinds except for my books and my iPad.

This book jumps into the story quicker as readers that have read the first book already know the characters.

Hach, was war es wieder nett mit den Senioren! Teil 2 hat mir fast noch besser gefallen als Teil 1, vielleicht auch wegen des Settings mit "Abgeschnitten von der Außenwelt". Es sind wieder alle Senioren dabei, die wir schon aus Teil 1 kennen - nur Hettie und Brexit müssen zu Hause bleiben, als alle in ein Öko-Luxushotel in Cornwall abhauen. Edwina hat den Aufenthalt bei einem Preisausschreiben gewonnen, und weil zu Hause der Heißwasserboiler kaputt ist und kein Klempner aufzutreiben, fahren alle WG-Bewohner mit nach Cornwall.
Der Corgi auf dem Cover passt nicht wirklich - es kommt zwar ein Corgi vor, aber der hat eigentlich nur eine Nebenrolle, ein anderes Tier hat eine viel wichtigere Rolle. Auch hier ermitteln die Senioren als Team, wobei die Geschichte hauptsächlich aus Agnes' Sicht erzählt wird. Aber auch Edwina und dieses Mal auch Bernadette spielen eine größere Rolle.
Ich fand die Geschichte super - witzig, aber auch durchaus spannend und mitreißend erzählt. Auch das Setting in Cornwall war super, und die Figuren farbig und interessant - sowohl die Hotelangestelten als auch die anderen Gäste.
Ich habe mich sehr gut unterhalten gefühlt, vergebe 4,5 von 5 Sternen und hoffe, dass schon ein weiterer Band dieser Reihe erscheinen wird. Ist für mich mindestens so gut wie der Donnerstagsmordclub, wenn nicht sogar einen Tick besser!

What a wild time the Sunset Hall crew has when they go on holiday to a luxury eco hotel. The boiler has broken in their house, one of the crew won a holiday online, and all the others decide to join in. Once there, they find a snake, a stowaway, and dead bodies, one after another. Trying to figure it out leads to even more mayhem. It's weird, and kinda goofy, and overall like watching a bizarre geriatric comedy take place in a hotel that suddenly becomes isolated from the rest of the world.

PS; the writer seems to imply you will need your passport when travelling by air WITHIN the United Kingdom!

Ponownie witamy się z Edwiną, która jest mistrzynią wariactw wszelakich, Marszałkiem, który przy Agnes jest niczym Romeo, Bernadette, która odkrywa swą niezwykłą przeszłość i z paroma jeszcze postaciami (Lillith jest w puszce). Żółwicę Hettie godnie zastępuje biały wąż dusiciel...
W wyniku splotu okoliczności, a przede wszystkim dojmującego zimna, gromada emerytów porzuca swoje gniazdko Sunset Hall i wyrusza na wakacje do luksusowego ekologicznego hotelu. Tam wpadają w sam środek wydarzeń, których skutki będą bardzo martwe... Hotel, odcięty od świata (uwielbiam ten motyw!), morderca grasujący coraz zuchwalej, nikt nie może czuć się bezpiecznie. Tyle że morderca nie wie, że stetryczała gromada to dawni agenci specjalni, a pewnych umiejętności nie da się zapomnieć...
Już pierwsza część - "Agnes Sharp i morderstwo w Sunset Hall" - bardzo mi się podobała, przede wszystkim ze względu na dobór bohaterów. Tu mamy podobnie - Leonie Swann z czułością i delikatnością opisuje starość, to nieuchronne zmierzanie do kresu, ciało, które zawodzi, umysł, który zawodzi ("To było najgłupsze w starzeniu - nic nie szło tak, jak człowiek to sobie wyobrażał"). Agnes rozwiązuje zagadkę, ale czytelnik przy okazji może zaznajomić się z rzeczywistością kobiety w jesieni życia, chociaż tu to poetyckie określenie średnio pasuje. Agnes nie jest pewna swojego ciała, wie, że nie może już na nie liczyć, wie też, że nie zawsze obok będą życzliwi, którzy pomogą.
Poza tym jest to też oczywiście sprawnie napisany kryminał. Intryga mnie wciągnęła, zwroty akcji zaskakiwały, kolejne trupy myliły tropy, zakończenie usatysfakcjonowało.
Po drugim tomie mogę śmiało powiedzieć, że jestem fanką Agnes Sharp i ekipy staruszków, więc ostatnia strona zapowiadająca kolejną odsłonę serii bardzo mnie ucieszyła.
Jeśli szukacie lekkiego kryminału, który dotyka jednak ważnych kwestii - polecam bardzo!

Ein Cosy Crime at it's best. Witzig, verzwickt, spannend und immer wieder zum schmunzeln. Ich hab die Geschichte von Agnes und ihrer Rentner-WG aka Rentner-Taskforce wirklich geliebt und das Buch so gerne gelesen!
Der romantische Urlaub im Ökohotel, den eine der Mitbewohnerinnen bei einem Gewinnspiel gewonnen hat, entpuppt sich nach dem ersten Mord dann doch nicht mehr als so entspannend. Es ist absolut köstlich, wie man als Leser in das "Ü80 sein" genommen wird. Insgesamt ist das ganze Setting der Story fantastisch beschrieben und gewählt, ich habe die Location und die einzelnen Räume immer noch bildlich vor Augen!
Dieses Buch ist eine absolute Leseempfehlung an alle Cosy Crime Liebhaber.
An der ein oder anderen Stelle hat mir aber eine tiefere Charakter-Bindung gefehlt. Was beim Hotel gelungen ist, hätte gerade bei der WG noch vertieft werden können. Dabei sind die Charaktere keineswegs konturlos, sie haben mich nur nicht sonderlich mitgerissen oder berührt.
Für meinen Geschmack wusste ich aber zu früh wer den Mord begangen hat. Ein etwas längerer Spannungsbogen hätte hier nicht geschadet :) Deswegen die 4 Sterne

Another super fun mystery with Agnes Sharpe and the gang! This time the Sunset Hall residents are off on a relaxing vacation, but it’s not all sunny days. This is a great take on a locked room mystery, with lots of twists and turns, a “cold case” murder and a few fresh bodies turn this vacation into a working holiday. I only figured out half of the mystery which was a nice surprise. The reveals were smart and the new characters were all great additions. Overall this was a really fun read and the narrator again does a great job with all of the character voices.

This was a decent romp with curmudgeonly but strangely likable characters. The plot kept me interested without being too convoluted and I would probably read a third one if it comes out.
