Delta

Rate this book
We all feel the presence of change: even if it's on some distant horizon, or only spoken of excitedly by those rallying for or against. When it comes, do we feel cheated out of some previous state? Do we mark off what came before as silly, pointless, immature? When everything has pointed us towards it, where does this frustration come from?

A collection of three short stories sharing a common theme: anger.

THE SAGE
"The sage remembered something. Time slowed to allow this interjection its space, and he could not hear the words of the old man worriedly looking out at the fields."

Companions Libra and Sapphire go off in search of their friend after witnessing his mysterious disappearance.

THE WRITER
"Is that the writer’s curse? To imagine what one will face when finally awake again? To be unrelentingly drawn ahead of the moment, to see it only from a perspective, and never live as it?"

A pseudo-misanthropic author struggles to live with those around him as he tries to complete his next bestseller.

LEMON GIRL
"Today what I really want to be is a painter."

Marina has fallen in love with a beautiful yellow dress. The only problem is that no one else seems to care.

Unless you hire someone to write a biography for you (or you’re famous enough that someone else has already done it), you’re put in the rather awkward position of having to write one yourself. Not that this is anything particularly unusual I guess – whether writing songs or stories, my greatest source of inspiration is my own life – it just feels a little bit odd.

I’m loathed to pretend to be an outsider: “ever since the tender age of ten, Colin Thurston showed an interest in making music”. It seems disingenuous. The fact is that I am almost entirely unknown, and will likely to continue to be so for some time (if not all time) so I might as well give you, one of the very few that have managed to find me, my full attention and respect.

I’ve reached a rather intriguing point in my life. Recently graduating from university with a Philosophy degree, the only thing I wanted to do upon returning home was to sit down and write. So I did. I wrote a little book of short stories called ‘Delta’. Whilst I was working on that I also recorded a collection of original songs for a record called ‘Did You Ever?’.

This is what I do, full time. I write a blog, and I keep very busy with many other creative projects. In truth, there may come a point when I cannot afford to do this any more; but life is full of so many people who wish they’d just sat down and done this and that, and I’m determined not to feel that way. So I’m going for broke, because there’s still a lot more that I want to do – and I won’t be held back.
