Legions Imperialis, the reboot of the old Epic gaming system that included the original Adeptus Titanicus, Space Marine, Titan Legions, Epic 40,000 and Epic: Armageddon games with slightly larger models. A with the majority of Games Workshop rulebooks, this book includes a brief lore section as well as the rules, and while the lore section in this book is relatively brief, it does give a good overview of the events of the Horus Heresy for anyone new to the setting. There are also some in nice charts that show the basic in-universe organisation of the Legiones Astartes and the Solar Auxilia so that players who enjoy building their armies in line with the lore can do so.

The rules of the game seem to be based on the Space Marine/Titan Legions version of the Epic games, just updated and somewhat simplified in places (Titans no longer get Hit Location charts and damage tables, just wounds for example). I was a great fan of the Titan Legion rules (particularly the Orders system) back in the day, so it is good to see them return, even in their altered form. As well as the basic rules of the game, the rulebook also includes rules for building armies of Astartes for all eighteen Legions and Solar Auxilia, alongside rules for allies Titans and Knights. I am a little disappointed that they didn’t include any Mechanicum rules, even if it was inevitable as there aren’t any models for them yet and hopefully, they will be included in a future expansion.

The book is illustrated throughout with enhanced pictures of models from the main Warhammer: The Horus Heresy game, although I think a few of the Epic scale titans have been added in here and there.
