Heaven Sent: Heaven

Desperate to save his family's hotel, the Weiss Strande, Tyler and his best friend sink their hopes and what's left of their money into a new venture: a nightclub at the hotel. The White Room must succeed, or the hotel will go under. Against all hope, they manage to sign the mega-popular rock group Heaven Sent to play the grand opening. Already a huge fan of the group, Tyler couldn't be more excited to welcome them to his hotel. He's not at all prepared for the bomb of lust that hits him when he's finally face-to-face with the painfully gorgeous lead singer, Johnnie Heaven. Johnnie's probably the most beautiful person he's ever seen, but Tyler is straight. He's feeling a misguided form of hero worship, right? When Johnnie invites Tyler to his room to play video games, their shared passion, Tyler jumps at the chance. He and Johnnie have a great time with the games, but Tyler soon discovers that Johnnie aims to introduce Tyler to a whole new level of game play...

Heaven Sent: Purgatory

Lucas Sloane defines beautiful for Reese. Tall and sleek with gorgeous red hair and deep, dark eyes to drown in, it's no wonder that the famous bass player of Heaven Sent is the hero of many a starry-eyed teenager's dreams. Reese used to be one of those teens back when Heaven Sent was no more than the house band for the local club, Purgatory. Back then, Reese found the courage to confess his love to Luc...only to be soundly rejected. Luc wasn't gay. Not long after, Heaven Sent left town and skyrocketed into rock and roll stardom. Now, six years later, Luc is back in town for a visit and more gorgeous than ever. Surprisingly, he not only apologizes for his treatment of Reese years ago, he comes onto him. Luc's discovered the pleasures of being with a man and wants to know what it'd be like between the two of them. But Reese can't. He lives the straight and narrow, teaches high school...he's even got a girlfriend. He has a normal life. He can't be gay. But it's hard to deny the man who's defined everything beautiful in Reese's artistic mind. No one has to know about it, right? Publisher's Note: This book is a male-male love story and contains homoerotic sex acts that may be offensive to some readers.

I normally don't set out to read hot man-on-man love. But, I have been on a Jet Mykles kick lately. Honestly, it looks to me that homosexuality is the relationships she seems to like and prefer to write about, so I figured what the heck, and I drove right on in.

This was a really great book, it is a two story anthology about two members in a famous rock band. The world that Jet weaves around the characters is always fasinating to me. I thought the character development, and the relationship that developed between the the main characters was compelling to read about. I found myself rooting for the relationship between the heroes. I thought the storyline was interesting in both stories and I plan on getting the second book in the Heaven Sent series.

If you are offended by Some Very Dirty Words and some Super-hot Man on Man love well this book isn't for you.

This is a review for the ebook versions

Heaven Sent:
I really liked this one. What I thought truly stood out in this book was the overt sensuality and sexuality in it. Johnnie dripped sex. All of the sex scenes were hot. The hottest scene, by far, had to be the photo shoot. Johnnie on the prowl was amazingly sexual. I really like the way Mykles can practically draw a picture for the reader. You really do see the actions. She’s very good at using small details that bring the action alive without being boring stage directions used to just set the scene.

Purgatory:
Again, pretty hot. Not as hot as Heaven, but still very good. Still kept me very interested in what was going to happen between the sheets. I really loved Reece. I mean, he just rocked. He was a real fighter, even as he was giving up, he was still fighting for what he thought he should be doing. The only issue I have is that I wanted him to be angry with Luc for casually throwing his life off course on that particular night.

The first book in the series was great, and I thought nothing could top it. Usually when I read a series, I often find I'm disappointed in the sequel. Johnnie and Tyler had such great chemistry, and they fit well together. I loved how they met and started their relationship, and I reread their book whenever I want a fun read.

But the sequel, Purgatory, was even better than the first. I adored Lucas and Reese. There was something about the two of them that made their relationship even better than the first two. I think it was because Reese was a teacher that made it so interesting. My favorite seen that had me giggling the entire time was when Luc showed up at his school and chased him around his desk.

Such a fun read, this was one of the first books I read that got me into m/m ebooks.

This one was really hard for me to rate. It's not really three stars but it's not up there in the four stars category either. I liked the story itself but I had some troubles with how it was written. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about grammar or spelling, but about how... two-dimensional the characters were, especially the heroes in Heaven. For example, we didn't even learn the name of Tyler's brother-in-law even though he was there, in a scene or two. Maybe if the characters had more depth... But it just felt like the author tried to skip the "boring" introduction to get to the "good" parts as quickly as possible. But thanks to that, the characters felt rather disconnected...

I have re read these two stories at least a dozen times. I keep trying to figure out my obsessive need to go back to them. The characters are rich and fully developed. The reluctance and angst is simply delicious!
A definite must read!

Spoilers for the first 24 % of the book.
This seems to be yaoi, i.e. rape doesn't exist. I stopped reading when Johnnie starts sexually harrassing Tyler. After he said some paragraphs ago that he'd never do something like that when he's not wanted.
I can hear the crowd groaning "another sjw". I probably am. And I think 5 ys ago I would've dug it. These days, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Discontinued.

Obviously yaoi-influenced

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

"Heaven" - 7/10

PROS:
- Hot sex. Johnnie is a little pushy leading up to the first encounter (he’s a seme all the way), but overall I thought the sex scenes were fairly well done.
- The romance is light and breezy and shallow, but in a good way. I didn’t find it anywhere near realistic (see cons below), but it’s a fun read.
- Good interactions between the band members and between Tyler and his friends. There aren’t any terribly nasty, homophobic characters.

CONS:
- Didn’t quite believe the romance, particularly the characters’ decision to make a lifetime commitment to each other at the end. I don’t doubt that people can fall in love in the span of 3 days, but in order for that to happen, I think there has to be a pretty serious connection on some level other than the physical. And the problem here is that we don’t see that: we see Johnnie and Tyler having sex (and really enjoying it, naturally), but we don’t get to hear many of their conversations, which are what would have made the attachment more believable to me.
- Tyler’s struggle with coming out to his family is a pretty major internal conflict, but it isn’t addressed other than in a quick, “Oh, my family probably knows anyway” sort of aside. That disappointed me because I was pretty sure his sister was going to be awesome about it when he finally came out to her, and I didn’t get to see that happen.

"Purgatory" - 6/10

PROS:
- Dreamy premise. I love the idea of a man who was rejected once upon a time being pursued by the one who turned him away.
- Funny, realistic dialog and cute characters (personality-wise). This is true of both stories.

CONS:
- Everything is from Reese’s perspective. This isn’t really a bad thing, I guess--lots of authors write stories in limited third person that explore only one character’s thoughts and feelings. But for some reason I’ve never read a story that made me want so badly to hear both characters’ thoughts. It’s interesting to see how Reese thinks of himself and of Luc, but I really wanted to see what Luc thought of Reese also.
- I found the ending just a little off. Luc does something pretty awful to Reese in the name of Reese’s best interest and then vanishes with nothing but a “call me in the foreign country I’m whisking away to.” And then when he returns (and interrupts Reese’s finally-being-put-back-together life), he flutters his eyelashes, they make up, and they live happily ever after. The separation--and Luc’s actions that led up to it--seriously bothered me.

Overall comments: If you like yaoi, you’ll probably like this; the leads in both novellas are very seme- and uke-ish. Both stories are simple in that there’s not much going on except the romance, but I enjoyed the book as a whole.

I started reading Heaven Sent 1 and liked it so much that I picked up the Heaven Sent 1 & 2 set before I would let myself continue. I love the way Jet Mykles makes everything topsy-turvy if you will (those who have read it will know what I mean). There's a lot of drama here but it doesn't interfere with the eroticism and romance. Jet Mykles weaves a great story and creates believable and likeable characters. I recommend if you get into this read HEAVEN SENT 1 & 2 together!

I loved these two stories. Not sure why it took me so long to start reading the series since I am a rock star fanatic, and now, of course, I want more. Sexy, fun, supportive, loving characters - rock stars - gay for you - hot sex - interesting, heartfelt plots - what more could you ask for in a series. Fabulous!

The book is worth Heaven alone, although Purgatory is great too. I loved all the characters, but Johnnie & Tyler are my favorites. The stories are really sexy & romantic but not too mushy.
