I was enjoying the book and then -all of a sudden--epilogue. I am trying to get book 2. Grrrr hate these.

Sleeper Cell is a brand new series called The First Sleeper by Paul Heatley and it starts out a little hesitant but it grows on you and now I feel frustrated because I haven't got the second book. I want to know what will happen. I have been a fan of Paul Heatley for some time now and you should really read his books. This one is a new take on the conspiracy of taking over the power in the US. I love the way he builds up the story in this one and how we get to see how the different characters gets involved with each other. There are some really great individuals in this book.

Too convoluted to be reading any further. Have read many Heatley books but this just seems too overcomplicated having read about 15%, and I have now found via Goodreads that there is no resolution, but it just leads into book 2, maybe that too is unresolved into book3, frankly my dear I don’t give a damn. Write a book, start, middle and end, simple, don’t try to coerce your readers into buying the next one, make them want to read another one because it is good. Maybe learn from Lee Child, probably the most successful current author, certainly the best selling, every Reacher book is stand alone and all the better for it!

June 13, 2023Mediocre introduction to characters that in future books band together to survive a plot that kills the current political figures. A 17 year old girl coming out of the rubble where a bomb blew up is being hunted to involvement in terrorism. This is Book One, with unknown number in this new series. Paul Heatley's Tom Rollins series is so much more intriguing. Young adult readers might like this new one but I'm one and done.

A well meaning DC policeman working unofficially with his ex-Mossad girlfriend to find the girl.
A librarian in smalltown Alaska with a past that sees an unknown man track her down and forcing her to flee.
Corrupt security officials equally determined to find the girl.
All this gives a truly unputdownable thriller that fizzes along at breakneck speed keeping this reader gripped from page 1.
At this point there’s no news of a book two in the series, I very much hope it’s not long delayed.

This is a new series and I am already not a fan. I dislike books that leave you hanging without a resolution of any kind. There is a bombing in DC and the VP is killed. Meanwhile, two good samaritains Keith & Charlie help a young girl looking for her mother out of the rubble. They are rounded up by the authorities and interviewed but something is off. The girl is suddenly the bomber?
Separately, an injured cop James and his ex-Mossad girlfriend decide to investigate. Also there is an attack on a girl hiding in Alaska- another separate thread to combine to the others.
There are crooked cops, agents & mecenaries everywhere which always seem to find the trio- a tracker doesn't dawn on them until late in the book-seemed obvious to me.
The book seems to be all over the place with a hidden faction taking control of the government. Seems like the rest of the series will go the same way. Go with the Tom Rollins series instead.

Am bomb goes off in Washington DC killing the Vice President and many others. A young girl wanders toward Keith, a previous Navy Seal and Charlie a British man, former SAS in country to do teaching is self defense. Suddenly a car pulls up and takes them to the nearest police station and throws them into a cell. This is only the beginning of terror in the US.

deep but shallow
It’s a heavy story with lots of moving pieces but it’s shallow with the plot in this book. Hard to describe and I would recommend waiting for the second book so your not left so disappointed at the end of this. The story drug on for most of the book and you are not really left with cliff hangers but significant amounts of chapters to get to a conclusion.

This book starts slowly introducing the mail characters. About mid-book it picks up and by the end it is a gripping tale. However I am not a fan of books that leave you totally hanging and do not come to a conclusion.
With that said it is worth the read.

A Real Sleeper Cell Story !
Heatley has spun a tale so thick with spooks on two sides who believe their way is the right way, it’s impossible to tell until towards the end. The pace is fast. The events are real. Then the author leaves us hanging Book 2. Can’t wait.

Fast moving read
I liked the story line, kept me turning pages.
What I did not like was the ending. There was no ending but just a promotion for the next book.

This is a nail biter. Different to other stuff I normally read. There's no single hero type in this. Some good guys. Lots of bad guys. Looking forward to book 2 now to see where the story goes...

Unusual but great
I really enjoyed this story and am eager to read book 2. Its a setting in the USA of the wrong type of people taking over the country. Lots of action.

A Rock Solid 5 Stars
A great read. Non stop action and so many twists and turns. The characters are really interesting. No one is safe! I will now start to read the second book in the series, Sleeper Run. A well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
