Perfect book for toddlers through grade 1 to beginning teaching how to be a good sport. The format is simple: 1-3 sentences making a general statement about what good sports do and underneath, a large photograph of children playing. The opposite page has a well-loved Sesame Street filling the page and a more specific comment or action that the character would do/say that exhibits the guideline.
Vocabulary is simple yet clear, font is large, photographs show happy children with a wide array of skin tones playing cooperatively, all illustrations are brightly colored and eye-catching. There were no children wearing glasses, using adaptive or assistive devices of any kind and children need to see that ALL can find a way to play sports and participate in physical play.
We are a Sesame Street family and were so excited to read this new book about being a good sport. Using big bold pictures of children and Sesame Street characters we learn all about how we can be good sports. We learn what it means and how we can play together well with others. The text is simple and easy for all children to be able to understand and follow. We love how it shows that we should include everyone and treat everyone with kindness. I love the message that this book sends to children and to everyone. Your family will enjoy this book together. This would be perfect to read in a sports setting with children, especially those new to playing sports and competing. It also would be great in an early childhood classroom. Enjoy this story together.
I selected this book at my local library because my youngest is very into Elmo right now and my middle could use some gentle reminders about being a good sport. I appreciate all the photographs of children playing sports together! Flipping through the pages, basketball, soccer, baseball, and tennis are some of the sports I see. The book teaches readers that being a good sport means following the rules, trying your best and being willing to learn, including everyone, encouraging others, helping someone up if they fall down, working together as a team, playing with respect, etc. I do not know that the Sesame Street aspect adds anything to the book and I wonder if it would have been more enjoyable for my middle child it is it had focused solely on the photographs of children playing.
This is perfect for young children who are or were fans of Sesame Street. I liked how it incorporated the characters and real children in real-life situations to show children what being a good sport actually looks like. The idea of being a good sport is so important, especially right now as there is more and more pressure put on children to always win and that winning is the most important thing about sports. I received this as an e-book but will definitely want to own a physical copy as well!
This was exactly what it reports to be. It is a book on being a good sport. It shows this by definitions and by actions. So many parents are so focused on winning it all cost that they forget that sport is a chance to play. This book gets at that and says everybody has more fun when everybody is playing to play. Everybody has more fun when they use good sportsmanship and have a good game. This is a lesson some parents need but kids will understand.
Good Game is a fun story about being a good sport, told by your favorite Sesame Street characters.
The book is engaging and fun. My toddler loved seeing his favorite Sesame Street characters playing sports. The narrative is appropriately aged and has a wonderful message of how to play fair, be kind, and show good sportsmanship.
