Sacha Naspini was born in 1976 in Grosseto, a town in Southern Tuscany. He has worked as an editor, art director, and screenwriter, and is the author of numerous novels and short stories which have been translated into several languages. Nives is his first novel to appear in English.

UNA VITA CHE SAREBBE POTUTA ESSERE, MA





Arrivi qui una sera qualunque, e ti metti a sverniciare tutto. Ti è andata di traverso la vita e ora la rovini anche agli altri; nel momento più delicato, per giunta, quando uno tirerebbe volentieri i remi in barca. Ti vedo, sai, in quella casa sperduta nel poggio, in mezzo ai maiali, a rimuginare, a farti il sangue guasto su come sarebbe potuta andare l’avventura… sai che ti dico? Se la storia ha fatto un certo corso significa che doveva andare così e basta. Mettiti l’anima in pace.



Sacha Naspini si conferma autore prolifico e coraggioso: scrive con apparente grande facilità e fecondità (almeno un titolo nuovo all’anno), e cambia genere, tono, registro e lingua di volta in volta.
Qui torna nell’entroterra maremmano, le colline col mare davanti e le montagne alle spalle. In quella geografia fisica e umana che caratterizza il suo libro al momento migliore, Le Case del malcontento.
I suoi “eroi” anche questa volta sono gente di paese, contadini e dintorni, mestieri umili legati tutti in qualche modo alla terra:
le convinzioni dei campagnoli sicuri di avere imparato tutto senza mai arrischiarsi oltre il cartello che segna la fine della provincia



Naspini è bravo a trovare la giusta distanza: non si mette né sopra né più in basso dei suoi personaggi, si tiene alla loro altezza, con empatia, perfino dolcezza e tenerezza, ma evitando l’immedesimazione.
Questa volta fa agire e “parlare” anche gli animali, a cominciare dalla gallina Giacomina, con una zampa zoppa, Naspini regala al lettore momenti di intenso raffinato divertimento.

Dopo un breve preambolo, inizia l’azione che durerà fino alla fine del romanzo: una telefonata. Dopo qualche pagina, mi son chiesto quando avrebbero riattaccato, era sera quando lei, la Nives, ha chiamato lui, Loriano, il veterinario, preoccupata per Giacomina, la gallina. Man mano si fa notte: ma quanto dura questa telefonata?



Dura, dura. Per tutto il tempo, fino alla fine: è il corpo centrale intorno al quale scorre la narrazione.
Che sempre verso l’inizio sembra tingersi di giallo – o di nero, secondo i gusti: si parla di una morta, se buttata di sotto dalla torre dell’orologio – suicidio o qualcuno l’ha spinta? – suicidio o era già morta prima e qualcun altro ha portato il corpo morto in cima per poi lasciarlo cadere?
E Loriano era proprio lì sotto, in piazza, al bar a bere, e se lo ricorda bene il tonfo che ha fatto il corpo raggiungendo il selciato. Forte. Un botto che non si dimentica.



Ma non è quello che interessa a Naspini, non è quella morte, l’eventuale omicidio: la storia va in un’altra direzione.
In una direzione che mi ha fatto tornare alla mente un magnifico romanzo di Ian McEwan, <The Innocent – Lettera a Berlino. E anche il vecchio film di Tornatore, Cinema Paradiso. Storie d’amore che nel momento in cui potrebbero, e dovrebbero, allargare le ali e prendere il volo, per qualche contrattempo, futile anche se consistente, si accartocciano, si ripiegano. E rimane il rimpianto, e lo struggimento, che ci si porta dietro per sempre.
Una vita che sarebbe potuta essere, ma non è stata.

Nives did not cry at the funeral. "At the age of sixty-six, it is hard to uproot yourself...come and live with you in the Languedoc?...I can hardly pronounce your husband and kid's names." So, Nives Cillerai was determined to soldier on, maintaining her rustic life on Poggio Corbello, her working farm in Tuscany. After spending fifty years with her husband Anteo, Nives now faced a life of solitude. "...it felt unacceptable that the world could carry on going about its own business." She could not sleep. "The disorientation of sleeplessness sharpened her perception of things...she thought she felt Anteo toss and turn in bed...".

"She soon realized that solitude changed everything about life in the countryside...Her tasks were burdensome...not having a living soul around... [It] made her feel like a ghost...". To Nives, Giacomina was "manna from heaven". Gia, a hen with a damaged right claw, was her favorite. "...thanks to her, I haven't had to pack and move to the Languedoc...with her on my bedside table, I sleep right through the night." "Is it normal to replace a husband with a chicken and not to miss anything about the husband?"

Gia looked wooden. A Tide commercial on television was demonstrating a washing machine's spin cycle and the hen's eyes had gone blank. In a panic, Nives called an acquaintance, veterinarian Loriano Bottai, a vet with a drinking problem. Although soused at eight at night, Loriano took the emergency phone call. When asked how to wake a hen who'd gotten stuck on a Tide commercial, Loriano suggested shaking the hen, drumming on a pot or using smelling salts.

A marathon telephone conversation ensued. "Nives' forced solitude had conjured up unexpected ghosts, digging up things from fifty years ago...Loriano tried to imagine all he'd drunk over the course of a lifetime...". He claimed there was no ghost trying to get him to drink. The conversation morphed into gossip about Renato Pagliuchi, born under a lucky star and still an Adonis. Renato was still diving under female skirts. "Wanting something exclusive with Pagliuchi was like signing your death warrant...that's what happened with Rosa...She wanted him all to herself. Maybe Rosa's the one who put a curse on my hen...". What is it like living with death on one's conscience? "...Rosa is that thing we all have which sometimes keeps us awake at night". The lengthy oral exchange revealed entanglements and long buried secrets. Some memories conjured up joy and laughter, others unmasked disception, omissions, or unrequited love.

"Nives" by Sacha Naspini is a thin, but powerful novel that seemingly described Nives choosing animal companionship to mitigate her loneliness. The "sculpted" hen provided a segway to an indepth conversation between two people who become immersed in past experiences. They discuss deep buried secrets, lost love, guilt, and abandonment. As the hours tick by, each bares his soul, the revelations proving to be quite eye opening. Do either Nives or Loriano have the resilience to conquer past trials and tribulations? I enjoyed this read but it may not be everyone'e cup of tea.

بوفاة زوج "نيفيس" تجد نفسها وحيدة في مزرعتها يجافيها النوم. تحاول التغلب علي شعور الوحدة  باستضافتها للدجاجة جاكومينا في المنزل حيث اسكنتها معها و أجلستها محل زوجها علي الأريكة و اعتنت بيها و بفضلها استطاعت النوم بعمق.

تدرك بعدها أن جاكومينا قادرة علي ملء الفراغ الذي تركه زوجها أو هكذا كانت تصبر نفسها و تحاول التعايش مع الفقد.

"لقد منحت حياتي لشخص أمكن لدجاجة أن تحل محله."



حتي تمرض الدجاجة فجأة فتفزع من تسرب الوحدة و الأرق إليها. فتقرر طلب مساعدة الطبيب البيطري لوريانو.. بدأت محادثتها باستشارة بخصوص الدجاجة و تبتعها ثرثرة و حكايات من الماضي. لأول وهلة ظن الطبيب انها أرملة مسكينة ضجرة و حاول مسايارتها و انهاء الحديث و لكنها اسهبت في الحكايات.. تقيأت أشياء من الماضي البعيد عن ماضي زوجته و ماضيه و ماضيها.. وجدتها فرصة لتبوح بما يؤرقها من ٣٠ سنة.


بدأت تنبش نيفيس الماضي و جروحه، أحلامها الضائعة و الحياة المثالية التي تصورتها و السعادة التي حرمت منها. تعتقد أن طريقتها الوحيدة لاثبات ذاتها و ترك اثر لها بعد موتها هي تحررها من أسرارها. تحكي لمدة ثلاث ساعات.  تحاول التحرر من ثقل الماضي و تسديد الحساب المعلق من سنوات عديدة فربما تغفر و تستطيع التصالح مع ماضيها.. ربما حان الوقت لتفتح عينيها علي اتساعهما لتري الأشياء كما كانت طوال الوقت لا كما تخيلتها.

"إذا كان لا بد من عقاب الأحياء، فالحياة نفسها عقاب كاف."

تبدأ رواية "محادثة ليلية" للكاتب الإيطالي "ساشا ناسبيني" بوفاة زوج "نيفيس" -ذات الـ66 عاماً-، فتتخذ دجاجة رفيقةً لها بدلًا منه، تساعدها على مواجهة وحدتها، وعلى النوم بشكل طبيعي، وفي أحد الأيام تتصلب الدجاجة تماماً كالتمثال، فتهاتف الطبيب البيطري للقرية، وتبدأ محادثة ليلية مليئة بأسرار تُكشف، حيوات تتغير، وحساب للأنفس، ومراجعة للحياة الماضية، من قال أن الماضي يظل في الماضي عليه أن يقرأ هذه الرواية، فهنا الماضي يُطاردك حتى ولو بعد ثلاثين سنة!

الرواية قصيرة، ولكنها مليئة بالأحداث والتفاصيل، سخرية مريرة بين طرفي المكالمة، وعامل التشويق كان أساسياً لدفع الحكاية إلى الأمام، فوجدت نفسي مأخوذاً بالمفاجآت التي تحدث في الماضي، -وحتى في الحاضر- هناك العديد من الأحداث والأسرار التي لو خرجت بين طرفي المكالمة سيخسر العديد من الأشخاص عقلهم؛ كبداية، وعندما تظن أن الكاتب كشف جميع أوراقه، تجد أنه لا يزال في جعبته أوراق أخرى، لا تقل أهمية عن سابقيها بل وتكاد تفوقها أيضاً، فتجد نفسك في تساؤل حقيقي؛ كيف سينتهي كل هذا العبث؟

إنها رواية عن الوحدة، وكيفية مواجهة الماضي حتى لو عاد إليك، عن الحياة بعبثها وجنونها، وتلك الأشياء التي قد تجعل الإنسان يفقد عقله لمجرد حدوثها أو اكتشافها، عن التقدم في العمر، وحساب النفس، وعن الفرص الضائعة والمهدرة، والندم على اختيارات قمت بها، وهل وفقت في حياتك أم ظللت تعيش حياة مليئة بالأخطاء وضاعت السنوات لتجد نفسك تحصد كل عواقب تلك الأخطاء.

رواية مُمتعة، وساخرة، وبسرد مُدهش ستجعلك تلتهما في جلسة واحدة وليس فقط بسبب قصرها، بل أيضاً لأنها تساعدك على ذلك، وستجعلك تتساؤل كيف لمحادثة ليلية أن تُغير حياة كاملة بهذا الشكل؟
يُنصح بها بكل تأكيد.

من الروايات القليلة التي بعد أن انتهيت منها، سأقوم بإعداد طبق من البيض المقلي واطبطب على نفسي واهدى مثل نيفيس صاحبة الدجاجة، الكائن الوحيد الذي يونسها في العالم.

رواية حسستني بمعنى ألم الفقدان الرهيب الذي فجأة بيحدث وبيترك الانسان وسط عواصف من الحزن، سؤال فكرت فيه طول الرواية عن الماضي بيفضل قابع في زاوية حزينة من القلب، بينتظر الوقت للخروج ومع نيفيس يا لها من حكاية.

محادثة ليلية فيها أحداث مؤثرة حسيت كأني فعلا مع نيفيس لأنه المحادثة مستمرة طول الرواية بدون فواصل، الكتاب استطاع بمهارة يحسسني بذلك.

حبيت الرواية ومبسوطة أني قرأتها، تماما مع وقت أنا فيه تعبانة نفسيا وجسديا، كأن نيفيس جاءت لتخفف علي قلبي. 🌸

الأدب الإيطالي الجميل. ♥️

On page 1 Nives’ husband has a fatal stroke, falls into the pig trough, and swiftly has part of his face eaten by their hog who had been loitering nearby.

On page 2 Nives drags her husband by the ankles out of the trough and shoots the hog.

(We are off to a smashing start with this book, aren’t we?)

Soon thereafter, Nives brings one of her chickens into the house to eat a pasta dinner with her, and then they settle down to watch TV. Apparently, her mother found similar solace with a pet cricket back in the day.

The chicken has a bad reaction to a laundry detergent commercial and becomes hypnotized. Puzzled, I paused, and YouTube assured me that it is quite easy for a chicken to become hypnotized, and I assume the odds increase when that chicken is also loaded up with carbs.

She proceeds to call her old friend, the local vet and town drunk, and a lifetime of suppressed chicken shit really hits the fan for the rest of the book.

لم اتخيل أنني سأكون امام رواية بهذا القدر من التشويق والاثارة النفسية والقدرة على جعلي اتوتر طوال الرواية، لم اكن اتخيل ان محادثة ليلة ان تزرع في داخلي كل هذا التعاطف والحزن والخوف والصدمة والكراهية والحب .. كل شيء مكتوب هناك لجعلك تندمج مع الحوارات، هذا الحديث الليلي لم يكن مجرد محادثة بل قنبلة القتها السيدة نيفيس على رأس ذلك البيطري المسكين القابع في قريته النائمة، السيدة نيفيس التي فتحت جرح القرية وفضحت اعمق اسراراها وتخلت عن رداء الصمت الذي يحيط بالقرى من سكون وبعد عن الفضايح، ادارت عجلة الفضيحة لتنبعث كانفجار مدوي في ضمير رجل سبعيني يريد ان يطوي حياته بسلام ، رواية ليست سوى جرعة مكثفة عن الحب والخيانة والفرص المهدرة والموت والاصالة في الصمت، ذلك الصمت والكبت الذي كان يجري في العروق، رواية تشدك منذ اول سطر فيها وحتى نهايتها، صادمة حادة كسكين العجائز، مخادعة مثل الحياة نفسها ، تعطيك جرعة من اللايقين، فرصة للتفكير في قضايا الحب والخوف والهروب، ليس هناك فصول في الرواية ولا حكايات مروية بل محادثة شخصين يمران بالماضي فيعيدان تشكيل حكاية قاتمة وبائسة وغير متوقعة ..

-Cosa mi dici, Nives-
Nives è una donna pragmatica. Sarcastica. Cinica. Sospettosa.
E' una vedovella sui generis, una delle poche al mondo che dopo la morte del marito rifiuta recisamente l'invito della figlia di trasferirsi da lei, in Provenza e se ne sta nella sua casa colonica in cima a un poggio, nella campagna senese, vicino a un piccolo paese come Castellina o Radda in Chianti. Ha sostituito il marito con una gallina che, in poltrona, guarda la televisione. Proprio per via della gallina telefona dopocena a un amico veterinario e di chiacchera in chiacchera, cambia in maniera irreversibile la prospettiva sul mondo di Loriano.
Nives destruttura la società che li circonda: la disarticola e la smembra. - Cosa mi dici, Nives- è il commento di Loriano, e la sua vita non sarà più la stessa, dai quattordici anni in poi.
Nives è stata argomento di dibattito con mio marito, secondo il quale una donna “di campagna” non ha una visione così elaborata di se stessa e non si esprime con tanta proprietà. Io non sono d'accordo, perchè sicuramente l'istruzione aiuta a sembrare più intelligenti, ma non ad esserlo, e inoltre i casi della vita fanno parte dell'esperienza di tutti gli umani e la signora in questione ha avuto il suo tempo a disposizione per riflettere.
Comunque Nives non pensa neanche per un momento di non essere in grado di elaborare i casi della sua vita e anche di quella di qualche centinaio di altre persone e lo fa con verve e perspicacia.
Pensa, ipotizza, deduce, agisce: spara anche, ma solo al maiale Ciclamino.
Piuttosto, è un personaggio con un ego ragguardevole, che si comporta con una razionalità fuori dal comune.
Mi stupisce un po' di più la disinvoltura nelle relazioni interpersonali, in particolare fra i giovani (io dov'ero? Cosa facevo? Mi sono persa qualcosa? Pensiero che mi coglie di tanto in tanto: studiavo, temo).
Naspini è molto brillante, per interpretarla ci vorrebbe una signora attrice, propongo Monica Vitti o Franca Valeri. Anche la moglie di Loriano, sia pure con una piccola parte, è notevole.
Bravo Naspini, mi aspetto molte soddisfazioni.

Se “Nives” me foi vendido como a história de uma mulher e a sua galinha, como é que a coprotagonista fica em pano de fundo, num cantinho da sala logo nas primeiras páginas deste livro?
A camponesa Nives, já na casa dos 60, fica viúva e, como não consegue pregar olho durante a noite, traz uma galinha coxa para casa e trata-a como um animal de estimação.

Am I not enough for myself? She asked herself. Discovering that she may not have been so late in life was a blow she could have done without. Her tasks were more burdensome with the knowledge that what she not shared was lost, especially the little things, the nothings.

Quando o galináceo entra em transe com um anúncio de detergente de lavar roupa, Nives liga ao veterinário local, seu amigo de longa data, para tentar inverter a situação. O resto do livro é uma longa conversa telefónica onde se remexe na lama e se reavivam rancores antigos, com revelações e ameaças que tiraram a graça a esta novela, onde o humor depressa foi substituído pelo azedume. Esperava a história de uma galinha e saiu-me a história de uma cobra como mente de pocilga.

مكالمة هاتفية من ٢٠٣ صفحة!
الأمر يبدو ممل ولكن صدقني لو قلت لك إن الرواية دي هتخليك تلهث من سرعة أحداثها وكثرة مفاجآتها، فإيه المفاجأة اللي ممكن يشيلها لك بيطري سكير وأرملة أرقة والاتنين تخطوا عمر السبعين؟
في الرواية العظيمة دي، الكاتب الإيطالي ساشا ناسبيني ضرب قاعدة Show Don't Tell بعرض الحائط وخلانا نعرف تاريخ قرية بحالها من خلال محادثة ليلية مليئة بplot twists غير متوقعة بالمرة.
الرواية دي تستحق ضجة أكثر من كدة بكتير خصوصًا لأنها أول عمل يترجم للعربية للكاتب وترجمة أماني فوزي حبشي سلسة وعظيمة كالعادة فالتجربة كلها كانت ممتعة بالنسبة لي.
أرشح الرواية بكل حماس عشان كانت خير رفيق لي في الطريق من إسكندرية للقاهرة.

واو! يا لها من محادثة!
هل أصف العمل بكلمة واحدة؟ ملتوٍ
ذكي! متقلّب ومثير ولاذع.. ومجنون أيضاً
كلما واصلت قراءته، ومررت على صدمة توقّعت أنها هي القاضية، صُدمت بعدها مرة أخرى دون توقف. هذه المحادثة أشبه بركوب لعبة "قطار الموت"؛ نصعد بهدوء وروية لأعلى فأعلى، ولكن عند الهبوط فإن العالم تقريبا سينقلب رأسا على عقب بتواتر وسرعة. هذا ما حدث في هذه المحادثة الرهيبة!
أعتقد أن كتابة رواية كاملة بناء على محادثة ليس أمراً سهلاً؛ الملل والسطحية والإسهاب والعادية كلها نقاط يمكن أن يقع فيها الكاتب بسهولة عند كتابة الكثير من الحوارات في العمل الروائي، فكيف برواية كاملة قائمة على حوار طويل؟ إلا أن هذه الرواية كانت مثيرة وقادرة على تخطي عادية الحوار لتخلق مشهداً يبقيك مترقباً ومصعوقاً معاً!

Mi è piaciuto, diciamo che più di un romanzo è un racconto lungo. L'unica altra cosa che avevo letto dello stesso autore era 'Le case del malcontento? che è un'opera monumentale paragonata a questa e che senza dubbio mia aveva appassionato di più, ma anche questa Nives niente male davvero.

Bravo Naspini, l'ho scoperto da poco e lo devo tener d'occhio. Mi piacciono le sue idee, sempre intriganti, mi piace la sua scrittura, toscana, verace, diretta. Mi piace come mi fa ridere nel mezzo di una frase e come mi lascia a bocca aperta in quella dopo. Ha stile, avercene.

Ho aperto uno dei miei rossi preferiti, forse per la delusione di aver letto un romanzo così breve. Ma, invece, aveva ragione lui perché quella telefonata doveva finire lì, inutile trascinarla ancora per le lunga la Nives e la sua felicità. Ah, il rosso era perfetto, come sempre, come le sere di settembre.

Who can resist this short novel in which the main character, 66- year-old Nives, unfazed by her husband’s death, replaces him with a new house companion , Giacomina, a hen with a deformed claw. It’s a perfect change and all goes swimmingly until poor Giacomina goes into a hypnotic trance while watching a detergent commercial. What follows is the longest of telephone conversations between Nives and the Vet, an old acquaintance. It’s a conversation that turns out to be the real core of the story

The story of a life told (mostly) in the course of one long meandering phone call between a emotionally numbed, bitter (with cause!) new widow and a drunk, caring Vet. I loved the characterization in the novel, liked the details tat came with the slowness of carefully peeling an onion, and the sense that old wounds can be papered over but eventually fester and explode. the plot twists and resolution felt a little tired and predictable, but I enjoyed spending spending time with Nives.

Un racconto, più che un romanzo, sapido e amarognolo, che va a segno con una storia fulminea, un po’ fangosa e cinica, di un paese di campagna senza alcuna innocenza. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ e mezza.

بدأنا هذه الرواية في المكتبة، في يوم هاديء لا زبائن فيه، ورغم عبثية أحداث الرواية وعبثية شخوصها، استمتعنا بها وضحكنا كثيراً على أجواءها الريفية الليلية الساخرة. وأخذت معي نسختي لأكملها في البيت، وبعد أن تعشينا وحبسنا بالشاي، تمنيت أن أنسى النوم وأحلامه على رأي الست، ولكن، على غير العادة كبس عليّ النوم، وأفقت في السادسة صباحاً بعد كابوس غريب وجدتني فيه مع أخي في شقتنا القديمة في مدينة الهفوف نواجه مجموعة من الزومبي طاردونا حتى باب الشقة، لا أعلم من أين جاءوا الآن في كوابيسي، وكأن كل الأوغاد الذين نقابلهم يومياً غير كافيين! أفقت كما قلت لأجدني أشعر بحموضة حارقة، يبدو أنه كريب الحموضة مجدداً، قمت من سريري لأعمل كوب شاي منعنع، وأكمل هذه الرواية العبثية!

تبدأ رواية "محادثة ليلية" بحدث غريب أشبه بالكوميديا السوداء، تترمل على إثره "نيفيس"، ويصف الكاتب هنا بِدقّة أثر العُزلة عليها، وكيف أنها تنشغل بالنهار بأحوال المزرعة والحيوانات، ولكن عندما يأتي الليل تسقط في فجوة عميقة من الوحدة، تُثقل عليها لياليها، لتجد نفسها بعد أيام قليلة بحاجة إلى من يؤنس وحدتها، ولغرابة الأمر فإنها تجد في صُحبة دجاجتها المفضلة "جاكومينا" ما كانت تبحث عنه ليسليها ويجعلها تنام جيداً. وفي إحدى الليالي كانتا - نيفيس وجاكومينا- تُشاهدا التلفاز، لتجد نيفيس أن دجاجتها تقف مذهولة ولا تأتي بأي فعل أو استجابة وكأنها تحنطت واقفة في مكانها. وبعد محاولات من نيفيس تجد أنها بحاجة إلى مساعدة من الطبيب البيطري "لوريانو"، فتتصل به وتزعجه من أجل تلك الدجاجة المسكينة!

هُناك أشخاص لديهم فوبيا من الرد على الهاتف، أشعر أحياناً كثيرة أني مِثلهم، قد تأتي مكالمة وتقلب يومي كله إلى جحيم، ربما كانت مكالمة نيفيس للطبيب لوريانو من هذا النوع! تلك المحادثة التي بدأت من أجل جاكومينا، أخذت مجرىً آخر غير متوقع، استعادت نيفيس خلالها ذكرياتها المدفونة في الماضي. ووجدتني أتساءل هنا، إذا كان هناك داعٍ لإثارة الماضي الذي أخفيناه طويلاً الآن، ما الفائدة التي تعود علينا عندما ننبش الماضي بذكرياته؟ حُب ضائع، هُجران، آلام الماضي التي تُثقل علينا مهما بلغنا من البُعد! عَبر ثرثرة طويلة نبلغ نهاية قصتنا بمفاجآت غير متوقعة تقلب حياة لوريانو وزوجته!

في تلك الرواية الغريبة القائمة بشكل أساسي على الحُوار، يضعنا "ساشا ناسبيني" أمام قائمة طويلة من الأسئلة حول الذكريات الجميلة والحزينة التي عِشناها، فُرصنا الضائعة، أوهامنا التي عاشت معنا وسيطرت علينا، حول أسرارنا التي قد تفضح وتقلب حياة من حولنا! أفكار كثيرة طرحها الكاتب بطريقة خفيفة وساخرة تجد نفسك أمامها تضحك بشكل هستيري أحياناً وفي أحيان أخرى تتأمل عُمق الفكرة المطروحة، رواية لطيفة تنتهي منها في جلسة واحدة وتترك أثرها فيك طويلاً!

آآه، انتهيت من الرواية وانتهيت من الشاي المنعنع، وأنا أفكر بكل ما أضعت من فُرص، وكل ما خسرت من آمال! على كل حال، انتهت نيفيس من المكالمة وانتهيت أنا من الرواية، وباضت جاكومينا، وربما أجد نفسي الآن في المطبخ لأعد البيض المقلي!

An odd little book about a 60-something Italian farm widow whose husband dies of a stroke, a farm widow who for some reason cannot cry about her husband's death. Nives, the widow, decides to bring a disabled hen into the house to keep her company. Said hen, Giacomina, is suddenly paralyzed after being hypnotized by watching a Tide commercial. With me so far? :) Nives calls the local vet, a raging alcoholic, to come out and bring Giacomina back to life. What ensues instead is an hours-long phone call where Neves and Loriano, the vet, reminisce about their lives, the lives of their spouses, their children and others in the village where everyone knows everyone else. Did I mention there's a ghost, Rosa, of a young woman from their youth who died under difficult circumstances and is making everyone's lives miserable. No, I didn't think so. :)

It's an odd book, a book about a widow whose life is changed by a hen, an odd book but strangely compelling and entertaining!

Why I'm reading this: Honestly, I have no idea why I put this on hold at the library, but it showed up and I'm giving it a go.

"إذا كان لا بد من عقاب الأحياء، فالحياة نفسها عقاب كافٍ. لا داعي لإزعاج الأشباح التي في هذه الحالة لها اسم آخر."

تدور الرواية في الريف وسط حظيرة مليئة بالحيوانات والطيور وبعد موت زوج السيدة "نيفيس"، التي تخطت الثمانين من عمرها، تبدأ في الشعور بالوحدة فتتخذ لها صديقة تُدعى "جاكومينا" المُصابة في قدمها اليمنى التي لم يبقى فيها سوى مخلب كبير وحيد متورم وذلك بسبب الكلب الذي هرب من عائلة بوتينتي وعقرها.. اه بالمناسبة لقد نسيت أخبركم أن جاكومينا هي واحدة من الدجاجات التي تربيها السيدة نيفيس في الحظيرة!

ذات ليلة بينما كانت تشاهد السيدة نيفيس التلفاز مع صديقتها الدجاجة جاكومينا، تصلبت الدجاجة فجأة كتمثال لا يتحرك، قفزت السيدة من مكانها وهرعت إلى الهاتف لكي تتصل بالطبيب البيطري "لوريانو" لتبدأ محادثة وتمتد إلى ما لا نهاية.. يعود الماضي مرة أخرى وتكشف السيدة نيفيس عن أسرار كتمتها طوال ثلاثين عامًا من حكايات حب ضائعة، وخيبات الأمل، وجروح لم تلتئم بعد.

"بعض الأشياء من الأفضل أن تظل حيث هي"

الرواية ساخرة وعبثية بعض الشئ لكنها جميلة .. أثرت فيا بشكل خاص الحقيقة وبعض المواضيع فتحت جروحًا لم تُلتئم بعد حقًا، هذه الرواية تذكرة لي أنني أتخذت القرار الصحيح بعد إعطاء الكثير من الفرص والتنازلات وها انا أنجو مرة أخرى من الغرق في محيط الذكريات والآلام.

Malý, no mimoriadne silný príbeh – zábavný, bolestivý aj prekvapivo hlboký, a to všetko v podobe jedného nočného telefonátu. Premena tónu predstavuje jeden z najsilnejších momentov knihy. Začína ako absurdná komédia – žena nájde svojho muža mŕtveho v prasačom chlieviku, spoločnosť jej začne robiť sliepka Giacomina, ktorá po zhliadnutí reklamy v televízii upadne do akéhosi hypnotického stavu.

Tento moment je spúšťačom celej knihy – taká nevinná, smiešna zápletka, ktorá však otvára priestor na úplne vážne, bolestné a komplikované veci. Nives uprostred noci zavolá veterinárovi – a šou sa môže začať. Naspini to skvele vystaval – postupne sa z telefonátu o sliepke stáva výkrik oboch postáv po spravodlivosti, porozumení aj pomste.

Zamlčané pravdy sa predierajú na povrch a Lorenzo zďaleka nie je jediný, ktorý skrýva hriechy minulosti – ani Nives nie je nepoškrvnená hrdinka. Celé roky v sebe potláčala zlomené ilúzie a zrazu chce všetko vykričať do sveta.

Kniha, ktorá sľubuje zábavu – a potom vám podá zrkadlo.

Sempre brillante Naspini, mi piace, è fresco e frizzante come scrittore.
Questo lungo racconto parte con uno spunto interessante, bella l'idea della telefonata, ti tiene incollato alle pagine con i vari colpi di scena, anche se forse l'ho trovato un pò forzato nel finale.
Comunque promosso ancora una volta.

Si accorse presto che nella solitudine la vita di campagna cambiava tanto. Le ore diventavano badilate sui denti al rallentatore; le medesime faccende prendevano una piega anomala.

Come dice quello: a guardare il nero finisce che il nero guarda te.

«Da un giorno all'altro ti ritrovi con un'età. La casa, la famiglia. All'inizio del mondo avevi il sangue in fiamme, a ogni passo eri pronto a spaccare i mari in due. Battono i quaranta e sei già un'altra cosa. I cinquanta vanno peggio. I giorni che macinano sempre uguali: arriva il Capodanno e dopo un respiro si festeggia il Natale da capo. L'unica soddisfazione importante è aver pagato le bollette».

What an absolute treat! A real tour de force of narrative invention. Nives loses her husband of many years and finds solace in – a chicken. Bizarre but true. Then one night her beloved chicken falls into a trance and Nives phones her veterinarian old friend for advice. She gets a lot more than advice. Because she and the vet have a past. And as the hours proceed that past is well and truly turned over. A whole life is exposed in just one telephone conversation, a conversation that surprises and delights and saddens. This would make such a wonderful short play (with the right actors). There’s something almost Beckettian about it. I read it in one sitting as that seems to be the only way to read it – you can’t interrupt a conversation like this one. Excellent.

نيفيس أرملة في مزرعة نائية تتخذ من دجاجة رفيقة لها خوفا من الوحدة تتصل هاتفيا ببيطري البلدة لأخذ نصيحة من أجل دجاجتها و هنا تبدأ أطول مكالمة هاتفية في استرجاع للأحداث ماضية من حيتها و حياة لورينو و تكشف أسرارا و فضائحا عاشاها .العمل بسيط في بنائه عميق في أفكاره و ثيماته .

(محادثة ليلية) هي رواية للكاتب الإيطالي ساشا ناسبيني المولود في وسط إيطاليا عام 1976، وهو محرر ومدير فني وكاتب سيناريو معروف. نُشرت له كثير من القصص القصيرة والروايات، وتُرجمت أعماله إلى لغات مختلفة. حصل ساشا ناسبيني على جوائز عدة، أهمها: جائزة مدينة لونيانو، وجائزة مدينة كافه....

الرواية عبارة عن مكالمة وحدة طويلة بين أرملة عمرها ٨٣ سنة زوجها توفى من فترة قريبة وبين طبيب القرية البيطري اللي بنفس عمرها تقريباً...

سبب المكالمة إنه العجوز بعد ما توفى زوجها جابت وحدة من الدجاجات المميزة بعرجها وحطتها عندها بالصالة عشان تونسها وتحكي معها خاصة إنها رفضت تروح تعيش مع بنتها وزوجها...فجأة الدجاجة بتبطل تتحرك وبتضل واقفة بمكانها، بتحزن العجوز وبترن على الطبيب يشوف حل أو علاج....ومن هناك بتبلش الكلمات تجر بعضها لحد ما تنهار ذكرياتهم مع بعض عن قصة عشق منعتها الظروف من الإكتمال...

هي قصة مشاعر معلقة وجروح لم تلتئم رغم مرور خمس عقود من الزمن، منعطفات وتحولات عاطفية لشخصين بأيامهم الأخيرة بأجساد منهكة ومريضة، محاولات بائسة للتبرير، ندم ممزوج بالشفقة،دفاتر قديمة وحسابات ما حدا سددها، كلمات كان لازم تنحكى وما انحكت، فرص ضاعت واندثرت إمكانية استغلالها، على مين اللوم؟مين كان لازم ينقذ العلاقة ومين اللي فرط بحب طاهر بريء؟هل كانت المكالمة مقصودة لنبش الماضي ونكئ الجراح ووضع الملح عليها على شكل إنتقام راح يورث صاحبه حسرة أبدية ؟؟

سرد جارح وممزق لنياط القلب!أسئلة لا تطرح علانية عن شكل الحياة الحقيقي وضرورة استغلال الفرص، وكمية الخسائر اللي بتزيد بكل دقيقة بنكون فيها جبناء عن التصريح بمشاعرنا....

كتب عنها الروائي السوري سومر شحادة مقال بالعربي الجديد أقتبس منه:

، تعاملت الزوجة مع حياتها على أنَّها عقاب، والشعور بالحداد على نفسها لم يفارقها. لكن في مستوىً من النص، نُدرك أنّ حدادها لم يكن على نفسها بقدر ما كان على حُبٍّ تُرك على قارعة الطريق. وفي الرواية تبدو هذه الأحداث الكبيرة التي رسمت حياةً كاملة هامشاً. فالنصّ غنيٌّ، ليس بالأسى وحده أو العذوبة والرهافة، إنّما هو مليء بلحظات قاسية وعنيفة ومضطربة، لا تملك أيٌّ من الشخصيات تفسيراً لها عند حدوثها؛ لأنّ الصورة لا تكتمل إلّا بانعقادِ تلك المحادثة، إلّا بانقضاء الأعمار جميعها...

Each of us has something—or more often, someone—that keeps us awake at night.

For recently widowed and insomniac Nives—whose husband had a stroke while feeding the pigs and became their fodder—the “someone” appears to be her husband. Yet he is easily replaced when Nives chooses to bring a chicken with a chewed-up claw named Giacomina, into her home. Her remembrances of wonderful moments with her husband are supplanted surprisingly easily by Giacomina’s company. And then, while watching a Tide laundry commercial, Giacomina becomes paralyzed.

If this whimsical and wacky premise appeals to you—well, you’re in for a treat because you “ain’t seen nothing yet.” Nives calls the town veterinarian, her old and alcoholic friend, Loriano Bottai to help revive the chicken.

What follows is a lengthy phone conversation of comedy, banter, and poignancy. We readers learn about Rosa’s ghost – the ghost of a girl who threw herself from the church belfry after being spurned by Pagliuchi, who happens to be Bottai’s upstairs neighbor. Rosa, who was emotionally aching, according to Bottai, is the ultimate metaphor for what keeps us up at night.

As minutes yawn into hours and the conversation shifts and deepens, we begin to wonder if Nives and Bottai are really each other’s Rosa. As the conversation veers from lost love to nostalgia to the double-sword emotions of joy and despair, these uniquely-drawn characters discover the strength it takes to get by despite long-held secrets, subjective memories, and wounds that never completely heal.
