I love a good psychological thriller and this is one of those. Ex-students of Ridgeview Grammar School are now grown and have their own lives, well past school days. They each receive an e-mail inviting them to a house to do some work, being paid 10, 000 pounds. Everyone needs the money. It is from Joyce Young, who stated she used to teach them and each of these students was memorable to her. They were asked to click the link to join the group. Everyone invited had to accept or no one would get anything. Each person we meet seems intrigued and soon they had all accepted and were meeting at the airport for their ride to the home. Each person asked to see who everyone was. Some remembered some of the others. Some, others didn’t remember. It was a mixed groups of men and women from different years. This is what starts us out. It is already grabbing my total attention as I love this stuff! As they spend their time at the house, secrets of the past are coming to light. They all have something to hide, and things will be revealed whether they like it or not. I loved the book. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
I really wanted to like this book, I did. Because I love Jack Stainton. I fell for his writing after just the first book in his “The Family” series, and that only grew by the final book. So, it pains me to say this book was an upset. This book DRAGGED on and on, much like the busywork they were all meant to do. Only the final 25% was a home run—in fact, Ed WAS the home run!! So, I’m going against the grain here and saying this book was UNlikeable, and Jack, if you’re reading this, stick with your previous work style, please!!
‘He Is Here’ by Jack Stainton, is a quick read. It is the type of book you don’t want to leave midway. A school reunion, a former teacher, and a mystery. Someone is killing them, one by one. Though the concept is the ‘closed room’ one, it is done well. While I found the book somewhat mild, as far as crime thrillers go, it is still worth a read.
Everyone will get paid to attend a select reunion from high school days. They all need money. All they have to do is stay on this remote island and work on their former teachers house. Seems so simple till they start dieing ..one by one. Who is the killer ? Who will survive? A real page Turner. You will never see them coming ! Love Jack Stantion.
I’ve just finished reading "He Is Here" and found the beginning a bit challenging. It felt somewhat confusing and seemed to drag on, but that might just be me. However, the second part of the book was thrilling, full of unexpected twists and turns. I was genuinely shocked to discover who "he" was and his motives.
For the first half of the book I was bored. Just a bunch of strangers griping and arguing. The second half definitely made up for it. Kind of reminds me of And Then There Were None. I will be reading more by this author.
I loved this book, twists & turns & an ending you didn’t see coming wow. The person who set the whole thing up was a shock as well. This was an unpaid ARC.
