My partner and I were getting tired of same old, same old in our backgammon play. I’m so glad we got this book! Robertie has opened our eyes to a whole new way of thinking about and playing backgammon. He has a great, straightforward way of explaining his approach, and it is both fun and educational to follow through the real tournament games he leads us through.
This book presents 5 or so top level backgammon games, annotated by Bill Robertie, one of the game's top players. Each game focuses on some strategic consideration, such as when to take a double, how to play in the opening, how to time your back game and so on.
I would definitely recommend it, but it does lack structure a bit. It almost seems as if the five games were selected at random, then strategy behind the moves and the turning of the cube were explained as necessary, rather than that these games were picked because they highlight some important strategical concepts of modern backgammon. One can still learn a lot, though.
The author studies known backgammon finals. I recommend you this book only if you read before a book with backgammon lessons and you want an advanced level. My play really changed after reading this book, I'm a better player now.
An excellent book for the intermediate to advanced Backgammon player. Covers all the essential skill necessary to compete at a higher level. You will definitely improve your game after reading this book!
