Two teenagers are trapped in a cavernous world amid a lost civilization. In order to escape, they must learn the secret of the Source and avoid capture by a renegade chief and his rebels from the Firelands.
Born in California in the 1960s, Jeff Gomm moved with his family to Texas in the middle of his Fourth Grade year. In fact, inspiration for INTRUDERS came in part from his own adventures as a teenager living near the Texas Hill Country, as well as from his experiences among the Otavalo Indians of Ecuador at the age of 20. He and his wife have three children and two grandchildren. The majority of Jeff's professional career has been in public education, both as a teacher and a school psychologist. In addition to writing, one of his favorite activities is to toss a frisbee around with family and friends. He is also an incurable language enthusiast. Jeff currently resides in the Intermountain West.
Great for the target audience (4-7 grade). Quick pace with many teaching moments. Hints of religious themes are spread out as well. Some criticize this as not being fleshed out. While I agree with that take in some ways, I find this to be more than adequate for the target audience.
This one started out interesting, but I just never really felt pulled in. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it was never inspiring or surprising. It certainly isn't a bad book, I just don't feel it ended up being worth my time. Probably better for young (pre-teen) readers.
