Toby Carr hated Maplehurst, New Hampshire. He'd spent an awful year there back in high school, and had left feeling humiliated and hurt by the one person there he thought he could trust. He had vowed to leave and never come back. And he'd kept that promise. Mostly. But his mother needed help at her B&B over the holidays, so Maplehurst it was. Awesome.
Toby figured he'd get in, help his mother, and get out. Of course, that all flew out the window when he walked into her kitchen the first morning and found Cook Murphy standing there. Cook, the boy who'd hurt and humiliated him. Cook, the only boy he'd ever really loved...
MJ O’Shea has never met a music festival, paintbrush, or flower crown she can stay away from. She loves rainstorms and a perfect cup of tea, beach days, music, bright colors, and more than anything a cozy evening with a really great book.
She is from the Pacific Northwest. While she still lives there and loves it, MJ has the heart of a wanderer. So she puts all her dreams of far off places and extraordinary people in her books.
Except for every once in a while when she does what all travelers have to do on occasion… come home.
Really cute holiday read, I just wish it was longer.
● Holiday/Christmas ● Hint of the paranormal ● Short under 60 pages ● Quick easy read ● Going home ● Small town ● High School Crush ( Both MCs) ● A past misunderstanding ● The story was sweet ● These two need to stop and talk LOL ● Loved the MCs... Toby & Cook ● Satisfying ending ● Wish this was longer ● Short under 60 pages
I don't even know what this was trying to be. We definitely didn't get enough of the history to care about the present, and when the two ostensible MCs hadn't had any page time together by nearly halfway through the book, I was really skeptical I could be swayed to buy this as a romance. It has a 'mysterious magical character' who asks both characters to make a wish and then later no one knows who they are talking about. ('Why, there hasn't been an old woman in a red dress here for over FiFTy yEArs' 🙄)
I remember quite enjoying another short holiday read from this author, which is why I picked this up, but this was just kind of choppy and unemotional. I didn't feel anything for either character, except that Cook should have forgotten about trying to win over Toby. (Oh, and there was a couple featured that was clearly from another book, but this is supposed to be a standalone *sideeye*. If this whole short was to make me slightly interested in reading that book, bc this one had no flavor, seems like a weird way to do it, but . . . turns out I have that from a free promotion, so there's an outside chance I'll read it.)
This is a BEAUTIFUL Christmas Story. Short and Sweet with M.J. O'SHEA Magic. Toby and Cook have finally found the nerve they lacked from years ago. This is about Christmas magic and dreams fulfilled. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
Sweet little Christmas novella about misunderstandings and teenage crushes that have gone on for a decade. Cook seemed like the sweetest man and I’m glad he and Toby figured out what had happened all those years ago to bring them together, finally.
Don't save it for a plane ride, maybe a short drive with family and you're in the backseat listening to family noise. A simple, refreshing happy Holiday story that is timeless. Enjoy!
Well written storyline but an odd story nonetheless. Missed chances, second chances and a touch of magic to bring it all together. Ends promising a future, and hopeful.
