Sarah suffered a terrible loss as a child. Now as she is troubled by recurring nightmares, her boyfriend decides to take her to a doctor for help. But this isn't your ordinary doctor...
A decidedly weird offering from the author, this left more than a chill up my spine. A woman suffering daily (or should that be nightly?) nightmares from her childhood is offered a cure for her fear. Maybe she should have been warned that there is no such thing as a miracle cure.
"Fear Master" by Bradley Poage is yet another one of his many popular short "Bedtime Tales of Horror" series. "Fear Master" helps a young woman overcome her subconscious fear, which has plagued her with nightmares ever since she saw her father die when she was a very young girl.
As with most of Bradley's stories, I found this one to be engaging and fun. While walking Sarah to school as a child, her father was struck and killed by a speeding car. Sarah saw the whole thing happen, and has never been able to purge the memory from her subconscious mind. Until now.
"Fear Master" is about a medical practitioner who specializes in helping people acknowledge and overcome their fears. But Sarah is about to learn that her hidden fear is not what she thought it was. Eric would come to regret bringing Sarah to the "Fear Master".
Another good short tale of horror, worthy of a bit of your time. If you are new to Bradley Poage's "Bedtime Tales of Horror" series, here and now is a good time to introduce yourself. If you are already a fan, "Fear Master" is another good story awaiting your attention.
11/28/2014 UPDATE: “Bedtime Tales of Horror” by Bradley Poage is an above average collection of twisted little tales sure to disturb your sleep. “Fear Master” has been expanded and improved from its previous release, and is now more capable than ever of causing unnerving nightmares. Eric has stood by Sarah as she suffers with a recurring nightmare. But enough is enough, and he’s had about all he can handle.
In a last ditch effort to rescue their relationship, Eric sets up Sarah with an appointment to meet a man who may be able to help her finally get past her childhood trauma, and conquer her nightmares. In a surprisingly short time, she exits the Fear Master’s office, with a new look of tranquility on her face.
This is my first time reading a story from Bradley Poage's series, and I definitely wasn't disappointed.
After a horrific tragedy ending the life of someone she loved very much, Sarah finds herself having paralyzing nightmares years later and night after night. Her boyfriend has decided he has had enough, and it's time to get her professional help.
Therapy didn't help and she refuses to take medication.
This leads them to a doctor with unorthodox methods. His job is to locate the great, being it forward, and expose it, so that the patient may confront it head on. Of course, one would think her fear of losing a loved one is deeply rooted in her. Only it isn't.
This short story definitely goes back to the saying, "be careful what you wish for." Why? Because you just might get it all.
The Fear Master is almost too good at his job. Be prepared to either chuckle at the end, or be amazed by the repercussions of a character's actions.
What happens when your fear is exposed and you need to confront it? Find out in Fear Master.
