The final arc of Dr. Stone is the most bizarre manga ending I've read with solely straightforward plot developments. The acceleration of pace was already clear in the war against the Americans, and it continues increasing right up to the end. What makes it strange is that it was very clearly planned and not axed, as Inagaki purportedly didn't want the manga to run for years and years more. There was certainly more than enough material to extend the manga twice as long. Just one of the megaprojects depicted in this final arc (rocket engines, computers, spacesuits, trans-oceanic communications) could have yielded months of material. Computers get more detailed information about their construction and functioning than the others (showing the creation of primitive parametrons and magnetic core memory) probably because they're a bit more relevant to the lives of Japanese children than rocket engines, which don't even get a cursory explanation of how they work.
The characters fare little better. The secondary characters like Taiju and Ruri appear very little and the truly minor characters like Kirisame and Homura are lucky if they appear onscreen at all. Such is the way with these large-cast stories, you've got to pick and choose your attachments. Not every minor villain turned hero needs to tell their story. Suika comes out very well, and the "Dr. Suika" sequence will be well-remembered even by those who find the conclusion otherwise lacklustre. It's in some ways the final conflict of the story, the vindication of Senku's principles, and everything after that is a victory lap, even the confrontation with Whyman. Chrome is the most shafted major character in terms of emotional moments, though he does contribute a lot to the technological effort.
The actual conclusion of the story wasn't terrible, even if it comes and goes in the blink of an eye.
In the end, 99% of my complaints would boil down to "there isn't enough of it", which is one of the best things you can say about a story. I might wish that it had gone on a year or two longer, but I had five years of great fun with Dr. Stone.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I've read up to volume; #26; with an average rating of: ★★★★☆ 4.6/5
It's been such a fun ride to read this series. The ending was a bit weird, feeling a bit rushed. Is there gonna be a sequel series? Cause I feel like there's more to explore here. My favorite character was Ryusui and I enjoyed the huge role Gen ended up playing + Ukyo! That boy came all of a sudden and became a vital part of the crew. Sai was introduced so late in the story that I couldn't care less, even if his character was amazing
It's always kind of nostalgic to finish a long manga series.

E a me questo rende davvero felice.
Aaand we are done. It was quite an interesting journey for me. Dr. Stone is very unique and I never thought I would learn this much about science and actually enjoy it. Overall, I would say Dr. Stone is definitely worth reading/watching. The ending was satisfactory, not perfect not terrible but quite satisfactory. I liked the path the author decided to take and I was kind of expecting it. The whole Whyman thing could have been handled a bit better since he is THE bad guy (I guess?) from day 1. Other than that, I will definitely remember some moments clearly and some characters are really memorable for me.
Considerazioni finali e generali sull'intera opera:
I stayed up late for that ending?💔. I mean its nothing bad but im just so disappointed. Like why man was the medusa and is an alien but we never actually get a true answer as to what it is and as for the reason why they petrified earth💀. AM I STUPID OR DID I JUST NOT GET IT. I mean I got it after reading a reddit post and whisper consulting with the sis but im just kinda disappointed. HAVE I MENTIONED IM DISAPPOINTED?! Im happy that taiju and yuzuriha got married though and that ryusui got to go to space. I KNEW THAT BITCH COULDNT RESIST. But yeah once again I was disappointed by the ending
No sé... no sé qué pensar.
first off, i really love this series. reading up to volume 20 was the peak of my interest, so much so that i very much was a lot more mentally there than in the real world. i kind of regret waiting so long between reading vol 20 and 21 bc i think i lost most of that fervour and had to ease myself back in while we were already nearing the end. but again, heavy escapism is never a good thing.
so, loving this series, of course i had to analyse it a little bit. now, i'm someone who really enjoys personal character arcs and self-conflict, especially in my favourite characters bc i love to see them grow. senku ofc was my fav here. however, when i went to consider his character development, i realized that he...doesn't really have any. sure, he gains knowledge and experience in his journey, but his fundamental character, including his attitude and his beliefs, don't change. he's already perfect: kid genius, knows all the answers, appears to favour efficiency and logic over emotion, but is actually very sentimental and manages to follow both logic and emotion at the same time. usually, a science-based character would be expected to have a heart of stone that softens over the course of the story as they learn that logic may not always be the way to go, but senku already knows that at the BEGINNING. he's already a great person. in fact, everyone is. and then it hit me:
dr stone is an isekai manga.
- super capable (maybe overpowered) mc that can do anything - trapped in a new world - videogame vibes?? 'x has joined the party' 'y acquired!' the characters have a definite goal and everything they do is to lead up to it - mc gets a huge group of people that follow him and who meet his desires (science harem) - mc introduces people of new world to modern tech and theyre all blown away. yk?? that vibe??
okay i'm not actually that familiar with isekai stories but you get this gist. however, i guess dr stone kinda subverts the 'modern tech to new world' trope when senku shows the ishigami villagers science bc the attitude around science is that 'you can never wipe it out and where there's people, there will be science', senku just sped that process up a little bit?? yk???????
anyway, it is a bit of a shame that no one has particularly well developed character arcs (most mindset/belief changes are triggered by 'wow science is so cool' and then they're all sweet) but seeing as that's not really a feature of the genre, i can let it slide.
something else i love about this is it's such an idealistic and hopeful series, which is surprising based on how it revolves around science, which is often associated with ‘FACTS’ and ‘LOGIC’ etc ‘HUMANS are NOTHING’ and it makes me really happy and it’s so refreshing to see this take of a smart science character (INTP too) who’s so sentimental but that doesn’t make him weak like??? senku wants to share science with the world, but not bc he thinks he's a benevolent ruler or anything, he's just a kid who likes fiddling with tech and thinks everyone should deserve that too. initally i found the 'kingdom of science!' and 'power of science!' and 'science is the greatest tool!' a lil cringe sometimes but it grew on me, bc it's true! science does span generations, and it's the product of humankind working together on something beyond themselves, and man does that make me feel so...proud? grateful? sentimental? anyway i did find myself tearing up at the riveting speeches that characters made about science. because in the end, it's not science that's so marvelous - it's the indomitable human spirit. and MAN that always gets me in my feels.
and also i think smth that's unique to this isekai-esque story is that the mc's goal isn't to rise above everyone. like they say, 'science is the great equalizer'. the idea of improving and working together and going forward as a species is a running theme, i think. the fact that science is for everyone. very idealistic, but woah you don't see that often in fiction. also helped me, actually! senku doesnt gaf if someone is better at him at something (not that that happens often) but for him it's just another opportunity to learn, or it's just a strength that someone else has, which benefits them all as well. an intp-a, he is, i believe. i strive to be like this guy.
i WILL say that the series was a bit TOO optimistic and idyllic sometimes, bc you cannot tell me that EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WAS UNPETRIFIED agreed to work together to bring the earth back to life?? what are the chances of that?? when literally the first person that was revived was initally hellbent on permanently wiping out science??? but ok whatever i guess the moon mission was more exciting and important.
speaking of the moon mission! it was ALIENS ALL ALONG???? BRO????? i mean that was the answer that made the most sense (next to a rogue AI) but idk, since the series was so heavily science based, i was expecting the medusa device to have a modern science explanation? but i guess the entire premise of people being petrified for thousands of years was not 'realistic' and thus couldn't go with a realisitc/plausible answer. however. you can't just INTRODUCE THE CONCEPT OF ALIENS and NOT EXPAND ON THAT??? ok fine i understand the medusas 'do YOU know who made you?' but could science gang not have asked 'where do you come from?? what planet??? what other more intelligent species???????' i thought you were supposed to be CURIOUS and KNOWLEDGE THIRSTY. but whatever!!!!
speaking of the science! the extent of research was genuinely stunning. mostly at the beginning, bc it was more plausible...but the science behind the doohickeys in late-game story still seemed plausible enough. however, i fear i have three irks:
first, you're telling me that there was NO language drift in ALMOST FOUR THOUSAND YEARS??? ishigami village speaks PERFECT JAPANESE??? i don't think that's how it works....but i understand why it was needed ofc. all that science research and none of it was of linguistics. smh.
second, when senku's neck was snapped by tsukasa: at first, i thought that senku coming back to life was just a science error that was required for the story to keep going, since even if senku's spinal cord(?) was flawlessly healed, the oxygen loss to his brain would've rendered him properly dead anyway. however, as revealed in the last few chapters, petrification can BRING PEOPLE back from the DEAD????? which....eh. hyoga's entire body was encased, meaning his entire body would've been revitalized, which okay, coming back to life is plausible with that explanation. however, senku's little rock patch was only on his neck, meaning his brain would not have been touched by the petrification's healing properties??? right??? still brain dead??? love the series anyway btw
third, natural selection should have affected the environment a lot more right??? how long do adaptations usually take...surely 3700 years is enough to cause some significant change??
and not a particular science irk, but a TIME MACHINE??? WHAT. LITERALLY WHAT. WHY???? why are you dropping this MASSIVE POSSIBLE PLOT REVITALIZER in the LAST TWO PAGES???? 'we're going to see if we can go back in time to save everyone' we not going to talk about time paradoxes?? alternate realities???? BROOOOO ok I'm fine with an alien technology race but I DRAW THE LINE AT TIME TRAVEL.
something that i also found impressive was the way that the stakes/conflict? kept getting upped. like things would be going to plan and i'd think 'yeah ok standard, theyve got science, they can do anything' and something comes in and threatens it and i think 'ok theyre going to figure something out, they can't possibly-' and then the plan gets WRECKED. most recent example that comes to mind is the repetrification of the whole world...that was actually insane i was legitimately stressed.
now, some miscellaneous thoughts: - little ryusui just wanting to hang out with his big bro......my heart......🥹🥹 nai is a smash btw - ryusui 'im the greediest man in the world' after giving up his seat on the rocket for stanley??? ☹️ - everyone's a smash. kirisame comes to mind...istg when I first saw her I audibly gasped....my wife... - stanley and xeno's height difference?? stanley's LETHAL face card???? his chronic lipstick???? that XENO CHEEK GRAB AFTER STAN WAS DEPETRIFIED??? WAS THAT NECESSARY???? apparently boichi liked gay fanart of them on twitter?? so I went to go check...AND REMEMBERED THAT LIKES ARE PRIVATE NOW. KYS ELON MUSK MAY YOUR EYES BE CURSED WITH MPREG ART OF YOURSELF EVERY DAY - ok but a military unit of grown ass adults losing to a group of high school aged kids is crazy, actually - luna is the realest character ever, actually. W taste in men. I get you. - SUIKA WORKING BY HERSELF FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS?? MY GIRLLLLL HOW DID YOU NOT GO INSANE - I am soooo glad that senku didn't end up with with kohaku like I remember someone on Reddit saying 'lmaooo the only reason why senku's adopted is so he can get it on with kohaku without it being weird and incestuous' and I thought oh no.....that's a plausible idea.....but they are found siblings instead!! YAHOO!!!! which makes me wonder, WAS there a particular reason that senku was adopted? just for the nice rep? that I can get behind - speaking of, how inbred would ishigami village be...? - I didn't even think about the ishigami village rock names until super late...chrome being a strengthener for the alloy?? kohaku being amber...preserving her sister's life all those years....I may be reaching.
and possibly more thoughts to come!! man i love this story

(Spoilery) Review of the whole series follows. It sounds super negative but trust me I did enjoy the series and characters enough to give 4 stars, I just know it had the potential to be even better.
As a whole the earlier parts were definitely stronger and more interesting as they were so grounded in simpler science. Once things accelerated and it was implausible to show exactly how things were created the plots got wilder to make up for it and I just don't think there was enough strong character work to ground those plots. Other than Senku's relationship with Byakuya any character moments were kind of confined to one bit and then never really brought up again. EVEN Suika who had a great twist of having to spend years learning how to make revival fluid (which really cements the theme of science being for everyone through hard graft and trial and error) is almost completely ignored after she succeeds. I get this isn't that kind of manga but... she spent 7 years all alone? She is now a different age compared to everyone else she knew? That's a really traumatic thing which will affect her for the rest of her life! Hell, even Senku had moments where he got anxious about being all alone again and he wasn't alone for all that long in comparison. Yet Suika is completely unaffected other than being older now and liking science. There are like three light-hearted passing comments on it from side characters and that's it.
Also once they started building the rocket the passage of time was super unclear, especially when they sometimes included the 7 year gap when saying how long it had been and then sometimes didn't. When Senku says it took ten years to get to the moon does that mean he's 26 now? Or is he including the 7 year gap in that which makes him younger? It's mentioned that the rocket prototypes took years to build but how many exactly? Why do NONE OF THE CHARACTERS AGE??
And then the actual reveal to the main petrification plot was super underwhelming, and then it cuts to several years later and everything is fine now. There were absolutely no geopolitical issues (because Gen can be everywhere at once I guess) and no pushback from newly revived modern people interacting with the astronaut descendents. (Hey guess what when something scary happens - like being petrified for thousands of years - and the world as they know it is gone people tend to lash out to exercise control. The strange out-of-time people would be the obvious targets)
Okay clearly my main complaints come from the lack of focus on people when this manga was always more about the science, so that's on me. But when Dr. Stone DOES focus on the characters it's really really good! That's why I wish they'd done more of it. It was still a fun manga I'm glad I read but sadly it won't be making it onto an all-time favourites list - which early on I thought it might.
Me supo a poco.
A great ending to an interesting series, and I do like that the series ends with a repeat of the greatest scientific achievement the landing of the moon. Showing Mankind has indeed returned to where they were before the petrification and I do like that most of the villains of the series were realistic redeemed and do end up helping Senku and his friends. The twist about who the Why-Men was an interesting one. At first I was a little disappointed that it was not some cosmic horror or an alien race but it was revealed that the main overarching villain was just a collective of Medusa devices that have a hive mind. But when they actually talk to the Why-men it does go back to being interesting as they do have a such an alien way of thinking. Believing that a life permanently petrified is better then one day dying. It shows that they do not think the way we do and shows how much of a danger they are to humanity and the only reason why they left is that they realized that Humanity would never allow themselves to stay petrified. And I did laugh at the ending of the story as it still captures the main theme of the story that nothing can stop human progress as we will always be naturally curious. My only real problems with the series over all is that most of the villains seemed one note like the villains of the Treasure Island who I cannot remember was really forgettable. And their did seem to be a little to much text and can feel a little to overwhelming. I do wish they did focus on the idea of working with past villains and how much that can strain their relationship as seeing Tsukasa and Hyoga and even Xeno seemed to change a little to fast and while when Hyoga joined Senku their was a little resentment that the other characters had but it never lasted long. But still a great series.
Okay it’s hard to say how I feel about the ending, there’s still no doubt in my mind that this is my favorite series, but it did feel a little rushed at the end. To have a device being the main evil made since but not exactly EXCITING in Senku’s words. I was hoping we would have a person behind the device that had a reason for petrifying the world. Instead we got some alien like device that doesn’t know where they came from, to go to another planet and petrify them. I feel like there could’ve been a cooler ending for this. Yes Senku was the one who talked one of them into staying with him (like a pet? He’s cute tho) and helping him with future inventions but I still don’t understand why these things came now and created so much chaos. And literally none of the Astronauts helped out at all. Now this might be my own opinion, but eternal life isn’t a happy ending. Yes I understand Senku wanted to go back into time to save his dad and the other astronauts, but is that really what they would want to live again? I guess I still don’t really understand the ending or Senkus motivations behind making a Time Machine. But all in all I know anything can be possible, but even for science it is all very fictional and that was kind of a let down. I still live for Dr. Stone because every volume leading up to this one was absolutely incredible and made me feel so much for every character. Not even this volume can change that for me, I do wish it went a bit differently. But I’ll except what went down and ship SenGen 4 life <3 goodbye Senku IY4E 🧪🔭🔬E=MC2

Fun enough at times, but thanks to the ending of the South America arc, the rest of the story had little of interest to offer, which resulted in the characters rushing across the globe to end the story as quickly as possible. The ending couldn't save it either, as the truth behind the mass petrification was extremely underwhelming and illogical, which makes the entire story not worth it in retrospect.
There are parts of this volume that I absolutely adore and parts that are a bit disappointing honestly, I still like it overall. Absolutely lost my shit when Ryusui came up piloting one of the parts of the spaceship and even more when he was being a human gyroscope, absolute lunatic and it really solidified him as one of my favorite characters. The solution to the Why-Man issue was a bit disappointing, them just leaving it just happened. I wouldn’t really mind but there was a ton of build up with them and the issue was just fixed way too quickly. On that note Why-Man being the Medusas is ok, it’s not bad and it makes sense but whatever. Loved the ‘where are they now’ bit at the end. I definitely had so much fun with this series and it had so many lovable characters that are hard to see go. Overall series is definitely a 5/5

Read Chapter 224 to Chapter 232 - The last volume of this series is too rushed. Although, I am giving this volume 3 stars because of the life lessons incorporated on this volume. I guess the authors got tired writing this story and just ended it as quickly as they could. Not all characters are relevant anymore in this final arc; they were just sidelined. Other than that, it's 3 stars out of 5 stars because of scientific messages the authors wish to send to the audience! ☺️👌🏼
I could try and cram all my feelings about this series and the characters into one concise review - but I won't. Mostly because I simply don't have the time or stamina.
All I can say is I liked each character's ending. I liked the conclusion of the why-man plot - honestly, I could think of tons of ways it could've been done worse. I didn't expect it, and I didn't hate it.
The only thing I find myself disliking when all is said and done is that the series had to end.
I was hesitant to read this for two reasons: - It really felt like things were close to wrapping up, and I don't know how I feel about the series ending when I'm already anticipating the end of a favourite web comic (today!). - I was partially spoiled by a random comment when I was looking for the ending theme to the anime and accidentally came across discussion about the ending of the SERIES.
Luckily: - It's a good ending! - The spoiler comment wasn't that accurate: Okay, it may have felt "rushed" to the commenter, but—all things considered—it felt well done enough that I'm more disappointed that there's not more, even if I don't know where it could *realistically* go (spoiler involves a tag I decided not to add since THAT would be a spoiler), even though the book ITSELF suggests, "THE END *and* TO BE CONTINUED"...(???)
Taking the volume by itself, there are a very few missteps, including a joke about ? The explanation, too, is completely absurd, but that was established from Day One, since "unexplained beam of light petrifies ALL OF HUMANITY" is... pretty absurd! Yes, even though there's a very MacGyver approach to solving the mystery, it's still using science to learn about something EXTREMELY paranormal.
That said, magic is just science we haven't explained yet...? *shrug*
The epilogues are a bit slapdash, but I wouldn't expect entire stories out of "Gen: (was made to do actual work)" and "Minami: (became a reporter!)" As far as those go, I'm pretty satisfied! They even managed to SO completely wrap up the very first thread (Taiju and Yuzuriha) as to !
Recommended for fans of the series! (except the complainer who thought the pace was too fast?? ok) Absolutely NOT recommended for complete newcomers; at least read SOME of the prior books first?
