Sometimes, the most sinister mysteries are hatched close to home…
When Seth, the new mechanic, fatally rams his tractor through the fence near the chicken coop, the owners are quick to dismiss it as nothing more than a tragic accident. But one look at the tampered brakes is all it takes for Angela and Ruff to chalk it down as murderous intent.
As Angela dives deeper into the rabbit hole, she discovers Seth’s demise aligns perfectly with the timely arrival of his fiancée—an animal rights activist with a fervor that ruffles feathers. All roads point to a crime of passion, where secrets are as carefully guarded as a hen guarding her nest.
To top it off, animals all over town are starting to become mysteriously ill. A staunch disbeliever in coincidences, Angela suspects the two cases are related. Can Angela and Ruff unravel the mystery in time, or will the town succumb to the poison of the past?
Cluckin’ Clutch Commotion is the seventh book in the Ruff McPaw Mysteries series. If you adore intriguing cozy mysteries with beautiful small towns and a really adorable dog, then you won’t want to miss out on Angela and Ruff's fun and unforgettable cases.
MAX PARROTT is a cozy mystery author who lives with his beloved golden retriever... who just so happens to be named Luffy. Even though Luffy doesn't help Max solve crimes, he does help him stay amused.
The inseparable duo often enjoy big long walks down the canal where Max reminisces about Luffy's one shot at fame - a close second in Musical Chairs for dogs one wintry Christmas Eve.
This was a typical cozy. Although part of a series, I found it to be fine as a stand-alone. The writing was good, and the story was quite the adventure, but I'm not sure it was for me, and I dont think I will be reading anymore from this series. I found the narration of Ruff to be a bit annoying, which was surprising as I am a huge animal fanatic. Thank you, Booksirens and the author, for the opportunity to read and review this advanced copy.
Between the somewhat bemused looking dog and the humor of the cover, it was impossible to resist this one. It's become a favorite series, I must admit. The chemistry between Angela and Ruff, her dog, is great and I liked the "thoughts" injected in places from Ruff. No, no talking dogs here. Just what one might surmise he's thinking. I've done the same with my own dog, must admit, and truth be told, I'm not sure I'd really want to know some of her thoughts about my human frailties and slowness to figure out what her eyes and expressions are telling me. Angela does make the mistake of overlooking some clues found by Ruff, of course, being a mere human. She's getting better, though.
As for the rest of the humans, there's Angela's boyfriend David who seems like a gem. Not only does Ruff approve of him but he's so nice the goats want to eat him. Honest. Well, his shirt. Some cute scenes with Angela's farm critters, that's for sure, including Eggatha the opinionated hen and Indiana, one of her adventurous chicks. Angela's family is also one many of us would adopt as our own easily, not to mention her father is a retired cop. Her mother's dementia, which I've noted in previous book reviews, is mentioned in this installment but only briefly. Her sister is largely uninvolved and brother William primarily as the employer of the victim of a murderer. Poor Seth. He actually sounded like a nice guy, helpful to all, and a wiz at auto mechanics. How could he not have noticed the problems with his vehicle? Why would someone want to kill him?
As for the murder, which it is deemed to be, it was interesting to watch Angela put the clues together to make sense of it all. True, she runs into problems and winds up on crutches but barely allows herself time to heal before she presses on. One aspect that I definitely liked near the end was her basically admission to her father that, sadly, solving a murder isn't always as satisfying as one might expect. Since she's always appeared a bit excited at getting another case and working with the police, that was a nice bit of growth for her to acknowledge. The growth of her relationship with Dave is also great to see after all the hesitations of past books. I must admit, as a retired teacher, I also like that he's a teacher, even if it keeps him ridiculously busy at times.
Although it was nicely woven into the plot, I did hesitate briefly before giving into my need to keep up with Angela's life when I saw that part of the story line involved community animals getting sick. No one seems to know why, although many are suspicious of a new animal food. Needless to say, although I was relieved Ruff wasn't getting that brand, the animal lover in me was glad to see Angela get to the bottom of that mystery, too. Bottom line, a fun, quick read (I pretty much read it in one evening) with just the right mix of strong characters, critters, and whodunit. Thanks #BookSirens and #MaxParrott for allowing me to spend time with Angela, Ruff, Dave, and everyone involved again. I always enjoy my sneak peek visits.
This is a series but each of the books in the series can be read as a stand alone.
So the book begins with a car crash where, Seth, a friend and employee of Angela's brother dies in the crash. Angela, being a private investigator, is curious right away if it was accidental or someone caused Seth to crash because he took really good care of his vehicles. While the police are analyzing that data, Angela notices Eggatha, her hen, has not been acting like her usual self so off to the vet they go. While at the vet they learn that many of the other animals in town are getting sick as well. Angela and her dog, Ruff, love a good mystery so they along with the police go about town trying to figure out what is making all the animals sick plus trying to figure out who sabotaged Seth's truck causing him to crash through a fence. A lot of their investigating leads them to a new 'organic' farm on the outskirts of Hummings Hollow called Harmony Acres.
This series is fun and an enjoyable read. Angela and her dog, Ruff, work well together. I love the dialogue for Ruff. No talking dogs here but the author supplies what the dog is thinking. I like Angela's family dynamic. Her father was a former police detective and he is always willing to talk to his daughter and help solve a case. Angela is close to her family and has a loving boyfriend willing to help her with anything. Angela lives on a farm where she rescues animals and cares for them. All in all I have enjoyed the books I have read from this series. Thanks #BookSirens and author #MaxParrott for letting me have this sneak peek into Angela's world.
Seth is the new mechanic working with Angela's brother, Will. While Seth is on the phone with Will, he yells about a problem and immediately crashes his truck. Unfortunately, Seth does not survive the crash, so Chief Helbar and Angela are determined to take a closer look. Seth was intending to repair a fence when he crashed, but when Angela and Ruff were looking at the crash site, odd traces of brake fluid makes them suspect foul play. A family in the area includes Seth's former girlfriend, Laura, who owns a farm that produces Organic Foods. To complicate matters, several animals around town are starting to get sick. Angela ends up taking her hen, Eggatha, to the vet at the last minute.
Was Seth's death an accident or murder? If murder, who is responsible? What is causing the animals around town to get sick? Are the two cases related and if so, what is the relation? Can Angela and Ruff unravel the clues and find solutions to both mysteries before disaster strikes again?
Max Parrott has created a wonderful mystery with plenty of twists and turns. I found the final solution to be a total surprise. I am eagerly looking forward to more Ruff McPaw stories in the future.
When Angela's brother, William calls frantically asking her to go to the farm his mechanic Seth helps out at since he frantically lost contact with him. He thinks Seth had an accident. Then when Chief Helbar calls her too and asks her to go to the farm, she and her quirky dressed boyfriend, David, along with Ruff hop into her car and head there. What at first thought to be an accident turned into a murder. So of course, Angela has to investigate to help the Chief and David helps with what he can since he needs to keep Angela safe. And with some humor David has become a friend to the feisty hen, Eggitha with her two fun chicks. And why are some of the animals in town dying? Ruff is his usual great investigative self as we know when we see his thoughts throughout the story. Angela has so much on her plate, can she get through unscathed? This book grabs you from the beginning and never lets you go until the surprise ending. I can't wait to see what will happen next! I recommend this series to everyone who loves cozy murder mysteries with a smart dog and really nice characters! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Farm approach brings Angela to the trap of the matter... All it took was one really bad curve, the guy wrecks his truck that he and his father had rebuilt, and he kept it in prime order... until the brake line fails him, and he dies tragically. So Angela being Angela, she dives right in there, and waits (kind of) to be included to investigate why it happened. It then takes turn after turn of bad steps (litterally) and bad luck. However, even though Angela takes a fox trap to the foot, in a car wreck in the passengers side of a cruiser... she figured it out! This was a wonderful story fit for anyone of any age, this is written well so it could be a standalone, but it is so much better when read in order. Thank You, Max Parrott for another Smashing Story about Ruff, oh, and Angela and David, and family, and friends too. I received a complimentary copy of this story, and this is my honest review.
A fun quick read with a couple of mysteries to solve including a murder. Angela, a PI, and her adorable dog Ruff are on the cases with help from her boyfriend and the local police. The author has written strong characters and interesting mysteries. Angela loves animals and has a rescue farm. The animals are always woven in to the storylines in this series. As much as Angela tries to stay out of trouble she still manages to get injured. There are some twists in the mysteries keeping the book interesting. I really like this series but each book can be read as a stand alone. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I just love Max's books, he keeps me guessing about the crime to be solved, he keeps me entertained with his wonderful characters and the animal sidekicks are a valuable addition I wouldn't want to miss. What I liked about this book is the message it contained: you have to find the right balance to inform others about things that need to improved but you can't force others to see things your way and act the way you want them to, especially not by endangering their health or life. I received this book as a review copy.
4.5 stars! A mechanic in Angela's brother's garage dies from a tragic accident. Or was it? The new organic farm comes under fire, and pets are getting sick ... even Angela's ornery hen Eggatha (one of the best names in any book!!). Angela, with boyfriend David's help, is hired to dig further into facts and causes. A lot of suspense and action in addition to the investigative work! And Ruff plays quite a big part too. Wonderful, warm characters as always. I received a review copy and freely leave this honest review.
Cluckin' Clutch Commotion is book 7 on Ruff McPaw Mysteries by Max Parrott. I have read all 7 books in the series and Angie, David, Ruff and Chief Helbar are wonderful book friends that have had some enjoyable mystery stories. In this book, someone is sabotaging Laura&s farm and animals. Angela and Kim just might not survive this investigation! I believe that Max Parrott has a fantastic series and a wonderful book… perfect for n afternoon of reading enjoyment. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Another exciting installment of the Ruff McPaw series. This time, Eggetha is sick so off to the vet where Angela discovers many other chickens in the town are sick. Could the new farm have contaminated feed? While contemplating that mystery, a mechanic, heading to the same farm, drives off the road in a mysterious accident. Are they connected?
I love listening to what Ruff has to say. The humor is spot on. The writing is excellent, and the twists and turns are unexpected. Love this series and looking forward to more. Thanks to BookSirens for the ARC of this book.
I’d really missed Ruff’s stories while there was a break in the action and was glad to see they’re back. Ruff as always used his super sniffer a few times to help with the case and to get Angie some help at one point. Just when I thought I knew whodunit, I didn’t.
I like how Officer Kim Dell’s become a key part of Angie’s investigations. They make a good sleuth team, well until someone they had no control over did something crazy. But all was solved and Angie’s client was happy to know the truth. Can’t wait to see what Ruff and Angie get into next!
Cluckin' Clutch Commotion: A Cozy Animal Mystery is book #7 in the Ruff McPaw Mysteries series by Max Parrott.
This is such an entertaining series! My favorite part of it is the characters. Angela and friends, family, and Ruff, are fun to spend time with. This time there are two cases that Angela is involved in investigating. One is a death and one is finding out what is causing animals to become ill. This was another great addition to the series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
As usual Mr Parrott brings us a fantastic story. Leave it to Ruff to be the one who actually tells Angela what is happening on the organic farm that Laura Ingles and her father owns. I love how David and Angela has grown so much closer as a couple. Oh, and the hen that has grown to love David, Eggatha, has two babies of her own. The ending is a bit sad and I hope everything works out fine. Which I am hoping we will find out in the next book.
I received an ARC copy of this book and volunteered my honest review.
Another intriguing mystery with Angela and Ruff McPaw, her smart border collie with a scent-sitive nose. This is such a fun series (all stories are stand-alone stories) that keeps you guessing whodunit, yet you know the dog is the smartest tool that the detectives have. Add to the mix this time are some feisty chicks and hens that are escape artists. I was provided with an ARC of the book via Booksprout, and I voluntarily give this review.
Another great cozy mystery with Ruff and Angela! This time they are up against someone trying to harm animals around town and ends up killing the mechanic, Seth. I love the small town with all the nosiness, friendliness and gossip that goes along with small towns. Ruff is great, I love the thoughts attributed to him. I just love a book with a smart, loyal dog as a sidekick. Not discounting David, totally works with Angela and the animals love him. Great series. Keep'em coming!
Angela owns a farm which is really an animal rescue. She also has her own PI firm. When one of her brother’s mechanics is killed in a suspicious accident, Angela is determined to find answers but she keeps hitting dead ends. To complicate matters, animals all over town are getting sick! What is going on? Can Angela find the answers she’s looking for? wonderful characters and adorable pets! Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing! Great book to curl up with on a cold weekend!
Another great book by this author. Not only action and adventure but murder also. Not just one but two! And What is going on with many of the farm animals getting sick? It looks like Angela and Ruff, along with the sheriff's department, have their hands full.
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.
Chief Helbar asks Angela to meet him at a car crash. Was it an accident or not?Angela and her sweet, smart dog Ruff want to find out. It's a nice and surprising story, easy to read, entertaining. It's quite a short read so after a few hours you know what exactly happened.
I received an advance review copy for free and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
This was a great who done it and what's going on behind the scenes and why. I was totally clueless until it was revealed. This was very intriguing and twisted, and I enjoyed the journey and the clues. Thankfully Angela came out of it alive after some very close calls. A great read.I voluntarily read a free copy of this provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
This is book 7 in what is now one of my favorite series. I love the characters and the easy relationship between Angela and David. Ruff is wonderful as always. I’m glad all the animals were okay as the mystery revolved around sick animals. Eggatha is a very special lady and I would miss her. And now we have a new generation to look forward to.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Ruff is such an amazing dog. He helps Angela with trying to figure out what is happening to ask the animals in town. They are the perfect duo. I love this series and find that it gets better and better. I can't wait for the next book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Rural P.I. Investigates Accident or more? Angela, David and Ruff investigate a suspicious accident, that leads to more suspicious activities, including pesticides and contaminated foodstuff. Well plotted, but has a few errors that made me stop and reread the sentence' I received an arc gratis and offer my opinion in the same
These Ruff mysteries are so fun. Great characters that seem like your friends, a quaint little town where everyone knows everything (well, not everything, I guess!), and mysteries that tickle your brain. I love them.
Entertaining and solid mystery. A well plotted cozy mystery featuring relatable characters and great descriptions of animals. Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Another fun story by Max Love hearing about the antics of the pets as well as of course our human characters. Definitely can be read stand alone if you haven't read the previous stories in this series
What a fun story Angela and her dog are on the case when animals are getting sick. She is a private detective and when a Mechanic at her Brother's shop is killed while driving a truck he personally restored she knows it is murder. I enjoyed reading this story and I recommend it.
This author is amazing at storylines...we starts with one murder or suspicious event, then overlaps that with other official police events and ends up connecting everything into one plot. Certainly keeps my interest.
