Fashion designer Alexandra Lyons becomes involved with Zachary Deveraux, head of a department store empire and a self-made millionaire, and with Eleanor Lord, matriarch of a powerful dynasty, whose obsession leads to scandal and the disclosure of dark secrets. Original.

This book was so good couldn't put it down, so ended up reading it in 4 hours. Love the characters especially Alex, she makes a great main character. I hated Miranda, she didn't care about anyone but herself all she wanted was power. Zach, he pissed me off a few times during the book just for that fact that he was thinking with his "member" most of the time and not thinking with his brain, when it most counted. Not gonna give too much away. Serendipity, thats what this book is. Hope you guys enjoy this book as much as I did. Happy Reading!
I really enjoy reading books by JoAnn Ross and this was no exception. Alexandra Lyons was a budding designer and she was taking all the steps necessary to get her designs on the runway but sometimes things don't always go the way you want. After a few missteps, she ends up with her best friend doing costumes for a nighttime soap where she could really display her designs. It was on the night that she received an Emmy for her costumes that Eleanor Lord saw the missing granddaughter that was kidnapped over twenty-five years ago. Zachary Deveraux, the president of Lord's, had met Alex in New Orleans before Eleanor had seen her on TV but he never thought he would be given the task of finding out if she was the lost child. Was she who she thought she was. This book has lots of ups and downs and the ending was very different. Loved the book
I selected a book titled "Legacy of Lies" by another author from the library but I was probably not paying enough attention and ended up with this book instead. The synopsis sounded interesting so I decided to keep it rather than return it unread. Let me begin by saying that despite the heavy descriptive overtones of sex (not the kind of books I usually read), I continued reading. I enjoyed the development of Alexandra's character and how, although crushed, she learned from her mistakes to achieve the success she chased. Although I knew that one of the characters (no name to avoid spoilers) was somehow involved in the kidnapping of 2 year old Anna, I couldn't figure it out until the end. I enjoyed the book but would have appreciated more of the mystery and less of the sexual antics.
I thought it would be good (the whole long lost granddaughter thing was intriguing) but it turned out to be a big disappointment. The name dropping was WAY overdone, as was all the (ad nauseum) descriptions of antiques, couturier, restaurants, enough already!!
And the relationships were crude, to say the least! This includes incest, sex with the boss, lust with the boss's niece, rape, bites that cause bleeding, drunk sex in the office between the conniving niece and her aunt's elderly lawyer, and it was at that point that I stopped reading!
Once again, I've discovered a book that's only good for wiping your butt in a toilet paper emergency.
Excellent read! A grandmother loses both her son and daughter-in-law, that same night, her granddaughter is kidnapped. Alexandra Lyons worked hard and went to college to be a fashion designer. Her mother and brother passed away, leaving Alex to set out in the world for her career. She goes to Paris, and becomes involved with a famous designer, but one night in what is supposed to be magical, ends in horror. She leaves Paris for the U.S., and lands a job as lead designer for a popular soap. Her efforts pay off and she wins an Emmy. The night, she receives the Emmy, Eleanor Lord, the grandmother, miles away is watching and upon seeing Alex declares, she is her long lost granddaughter. Eleanor is the owner of Lord's department stores, and she has a plan to bring Alex into the fold. Alex bumps into Zach, who rescues her, there is chemistry, but Zach is married. Zach is also, Eleanor's right-hand man. Alex and Zach give new meaning to: It's complicated! Is she, Eleanor's long lost granddaughter? Or, after getting to know Eleanor, does it really matter?
I’m a big fan of JoAnn Ross but compared to how long she’s been publishing to what I’ve actually read by her, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Which makes me very excited that they are re-releasing some of her earlier titles like Legacy of Lies. Because this is a re-release it did take me a little bit of time to acclimate to the time period that this is based in, for the most part the 1980s. After I got over the shoulder pads I really like the development of the story, the mystery and how well Alexandra’s character grows throughout the story. My biggest issue with the story and why I only gave it 3 stars instead of 4 is . This issue will not keep me from reading any other stories from Ms. Ross because I still love her books and will gladly snatch up everything I can find.
This is another of those books that I couldn't put down once I'd started reading it. Fashion designer Alexandra Lyons moves to Paris not long after losing her mother to cancer. She begins working for one of the top fashion houses with disastrous results and moves back to the states and begins designing for an upcoming evening soap opera. At Mardi Gras she meets Zack Devereaux, but he's married and there can't be anything between them even though they both wish things could be different. She wins an Emmy for her fashions designs for the show and is contacted by Eleanor Lord, owner of the international chain of Lord's stores, to create her own designs. Eleanor is convinced that Alexandra is Anna - her granddaughter who disappeared when Eleanor's son and daughter-in-law were murdered.
I literally could not put this down. I was up all night reading it. Finally passed out some time after 5:30 a.m. for a few hours, then woke up to finish reading. Really intense fast paced and even though I sort of knew who dun it in the back of my mind right from the beginning I just had to find out all the whys and wherefores.
Rather dated due to the 1994 publication date, but otherwise I couldn't put the book down. Ross has been a favorite author for many years though this is the first "big" book I've read by her. I have it 4 stars because when I can't bear to put a book down it means it's a "good one!". I'm looking forward to reading her Callahan brothers trilogy next.
i gave up, read the end of the book and had no interest in going back to read what I had skipped. It is an old book that copies the plot and form of richer novels of the time.
This is a great book to read. It spins you around in circles trying to resist the inevitable, like a headlong crash that's just waiting to happen. It's something you won't want to miss out on.
I wanted to not like this book because it was so obviously a cheesy romance, but it was actually pretty entertaining! Still probably not going to widely advertise the fact that I enjoyed it, though.
