I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book as I went in blind - and I loved the front cover.

I was really quite surprised to find that this beautiful story wove quite a few different genres together and I was completely immersed in the lives of our two main characters.

Catherine visits The Priory at Teignmouth for the first time, but has the strongest feeling of deja vu and can even see clear images of a time when she'd been there before.
Troubled by this, she seeks help from a hypnotherapist who tries to help her uncover the meaning of these images and the following dreams that she has.
We then follow the lives of both Catherine and Merwynn and see how their lives were intertwined through time helping both to come to terms with the meaning of their existence.

I'm fascinated by anything to do with the brain and the way it reacts to events and traumas and so absolutely loved seeing how the hypnotherapy worked.

There was also a strong element of faith running throughout the story - which even though I'm not religious, I think really worked well within the storyline.

I wasn't 100% keen on Catherine and some of her actions and decisions - but as the story unravels, reasons for this become more apparent.

Merwynn's story, however, I thought was so beautifully written.
Living around the 9th century, there was a huge difference in the way women were seen and treated and I found the detailed scenes here to be shocking, but unsurprising!

This was a really enjoyable read with a clever, well written and brilliantly thought out storyline.

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this one, with it being Woman's fiction/Dual Destinies this is not the usual genre I go for, but I'm so glad I got to be a part of this tour!

For me, it was a bit of a slow start, but as the story was unfolding/building all of a sudden, I really didn't want to put it down.

What I really enjoyed about this was that it was told over 2 different periods of time, and we had 2 strong female characters telling us their stories. You really got to understand them and also understand and see how their lives intertwine and how they flow with each other. The author really took us on the journey with them, and it was beautifully written.

There are some trigger warnings - Rape, suicide, abuse, and violence.

Overall, this was such a well thought out, emotional, and told story. Definitely add this one to your TBR. You won't be disappointed

This is an unusual and interesting first novel from an excellent best selling author of true life books.
I enjoyed reading this book and although it takes a little while to get into its stride, it's worth the investment of your time as you'll be rewarded with some original and moving writing. The book looks at love, power, conflict and relationships. Also, I am looking forward to seeing what Mary TT writes next.

I really enjoyed hindsight but to be honest at first I wasn't sure. It was a slow start but then all of a sudden the story picks up and with that my interested peaked and I was absolutely hooked. I enjoyed the way the story entwined between Catherine and Merwynn. At first I was more invested in Merwynn as I really enjoyed her story. But the more we learnt about Catherine I found myself invested in her story too.
I didn't expect the twists in this novel and it was a bitter sweet ending.

This had intrigued me as soon as I read the blurb. And as soon as I started reading the book. I was very intrigued on what was happening within the book. I enjoyed the writing style of the book it was very interesting and nice to read. The characters within this book was very interesting read. The characters had to go through some challenges throhgout the book which developed the charcters and story well. I enjoyed the ending of the book it gave some nice closure to the whole story.

This was an interesting concept, though I found it took a while to hit its stride.
Told through two time periods and two strong female characters whose lives are inextricably linked.
Catherine can, at times, be quite unlikeable, though as her story develops, you realise why she is the way she is and understandably so.
I found the chapters telling Merrwyns time fascinating, undoubtedly a terrible time for her, but beautifully told.
There are trigger warnings of violence, rape, abuse, and suicide.
I loved the final few chapters, where the women both got the closure they deserved.
It's a really well told story.

This was a very unique book and I found it really enjoyable. The concept that our past lives guide us in our present lives at times when we need them the most was very unusual. When Catherine visits Tynemouth Priory for the very first time, she begins to have very vivid memories and dreams about it and starts seeing events through someone else; a young girl called Merwyn. Even though she's never been there before, these events and memories are confusing so she seeks out the help of a hypnotist years later. As the dreams and memories become more intense to the extent that Catherine is experiencing Merlin's life as it happened, Catherine begins to question her own life. Merwyn guides Catherine through her own experiences to help her come to terms with events in her own life, such as lack of self belief and feeling unlovable. Merwyn was such a great, yet tragic character. Catherine's love interest, Edward, proved to be exactly what she needed after all. I liked Catherine as a main character. She was plausible and relatable as a modern woman. The book was very well researched, showing the author's skill and dedication. The historical facts were interesting and added life to the story. I look forward to reading jmjroe books by this author.

Firstly, let’s just appreciate how beautiful this book cover is! I love that it is a hard back and it is so shiny and just overall gorgeous! The pages were so silky and smooth too and I loved the feeling while reading!

Next, I must admit I was a bit unsure of this book at first, reading the blurb. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be of interest to me with the historical time differences etc… however, the prologue of the book had me instantly intrigued and wanting to keep reading to find out more! As the book went on I just got more and more into it and could not put it down! I was pleasantly surprised with the different topics this book covered which I wasn’t expecting, such as arranged marriage, controlling parents/grandparents, rape, forbidden love, cross dressing, suicide, self worth and so much more!

It really was the book that kept on giving and I was absolutely blown away by it if I’m honest. The ending was PERFECT. The book felt complete and the last sentence had me sitting with a huge smile on my face. What a fantastic book and I would highly recommend this book to everybody! I won’t ever forget this book, that’s for sure!

Go read this book ASAP or get it added to your TBR!

I loved the cover. That's what drew me to this book. I really did enjoy this book. The story was unique. Very well researched. Short chapters which i love. I did love Catherine and Merwynn. I felt as though I was there with them in the story. Once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I am just starting to get into historical genres. I'm glad I got the opportunity to read this lovely story. For a debut this book was epic. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. 5*.

I was instantly drawn to the simple cover, because I love the beach, shells and fossils! And sometimes simple is best!

This was an absolutely beautiful, dual timeline story which perfectly weaves together the lives of Merwynn in the 9th Century, and Catherine in the present day. I really loved the clever idea of hypnotism and past life regression being used to explore Catherine’s issues in the present day.

Merwynn’s story really reminded me of how hard life could be for women in the past. The idea that you either marry the man your father picks, or become a nun, seems incredible now.

I loved the low level of religion running throughout the book too. Especially when Merwynn decided that its all the same in the end, regardless of which God/s you worship. And also the way our lives, abs heaven are likened to water. Water is where I feel most at peace. And scuba diving is when I've felt closest to God.

It's also a story about family, love and how trauma can have ripples through the generations.

I'm absolutely fascinated by the tale of a woman pretending to be a man so she could be Pope, and of women disguising themselves as men for whatever reason and being Sainted. I'd love to know more about them.

A beautifully written story, evocative and spiritual with deep messages of self worth, self love, inner strength and resilience!

I am glad I jumped on the chance to read this book as it would have never crossed my mind to pick it up otherwise. The writing was so poetic and full of compassion, emanating such love for the main characters. As we get to know Catherine and Merrwyn, we learn how much their lives and experiences are intertwined, and one's past can serve as a beacon of hope and light for the other's darkness.

Some of the passages really struck a nerve with me as I found myself in the same position spiritually and emotionally, albeit for very different reasons than in the story. In particular, I found myself deeply moved by the concept of the fluidity of energy and its omnipresence through space and time, making every living and non living being connected across the universe, no matter where and when.

I recommend this read to anyone really as I think there's a message for everyone, which is made even more enjoyable by the author's prose.

Thanks to Mary Turner Thomson and LoveBooksTours for a copy and this is my honest opinion.

First of all, let's take a moment to appreciate this front cover. Isn't it absolutely beautiful with the beach scene, bright sun in the background, and shell in the foreground. Red was a great choice for the text too as is stand out against the other colours.
There are some trigger warnings I feel I also should mention. Rape, abuse, suicide and violence
Now to the review. For me, Hindsight began just a little slowly, but the story picks up very quickly and will have you turning page after page in no time.
We follow two strong female characters ( Catherine and Merrwyn ) whose lives are linked, but told through the perspective of two time periods, past and present. Catherine in the present day has visions of a life she never lived, that of Merrwyn, an Anglo-Saxon from the 9th Century.
I found myself drawn deeper and deeper into this story as I read along and the author's story telling skills are quite obviously top notch to say the least. It's a beautifully written  story with characters with great depth and a storyline that flows incredibly well.
It's a story of love, family, relationships and of trauma and how it can ripple through time.
Four stars from me.

Sometimes there is a book that makes you stop. This book started making me do that, the moment I saw the cover. My daughter and I love fossils, especially ammonites, and this stunning cover captured me and then the blurb snared my mind. It gave such a thoughtful tale and I knew I had to read it just to let all the idea sink in.
I am so glad I did go for this book. It is one of the most intriguing I have read in a while. It starts off rather unique, jumping in with our main character and giving us the ideas of deja vu and other options about what might or might not be happening. Just trust the process, this book moves from there and weaves you through and really unique tale, one that has you stop and think every step along the way.
You will find yourself deep in the tale, enjoying the way the author has made it flow and then questioning the choices of those involved, hindsight and all.
I really enjoyed the journey and know that so many other readers will as well. Why not try and see if it has you thinking and guessing just as much.

This book was a real gem! It makes you think so much about things, the main characters are all strong, powerful female icons. They have come across hardship, trauma and hard decisions and come out even stronger the other side. Staring counselling has opened up a whole new concept for Catherine. Her connection to Merwyn is intriguing, their story intertwines and it sends you on a journey yourself. The past and present aspect and the different POV's really add to the feel of the book.

I love the connection with Tynemouth Priory, I have visited there myself and I can picture the area, the ruins, the cliffs, sea etc, it makes it more personal and relevant to me. I really enjoyed reading this book, there was so many lessons to learn from Merwyn and Catherine's lives, they are beautiful in their own way and life is there to be cherished, regardless how they start out.

I cannot wait to read more from Mary in the futre, this has been a truly gripping book to read and one I would recommend!

This quick read was told in two interconnected timelines and explores the use of hypnosis to understand memories. Catherine has always been made to feel unworthy and has been unable to find happiness or love. A memory of a place that she does not remember leads her to a hypnotist. The deeper she travels into the memory the more she learns about Merwynn and her struggle to survive in the 9th century. How is the memory of Merwynn connected to Catherine’s life? Will Catherine find love and happiness? I found the story of Merwynn and what she endured fascinating. Her determination to survive even when the odds were against her drew me into her story. I was also intrigued by the connection between the two women. This book offers the idea that when we are struggling in our present it might help to think about what we can learn from our past. An enjoyable read.

This book will stay with me for a long time and really resonates with me. I am so happy that I got the chance to take part in the blog tour read along with LBT and to be able to interact with Mary throughout the read along.
The story follows two main POVs – that of Catherine in the ‘present’ day and Merrwyn, who is a 9th century Saxon with strong ties to Catherine. Throughout the book you see the two women’s lives entwine and unfold and how their lives ebb and flow with one another. Despite the story element, the book itself holds such a powerful undercurrent of learning and gets the reader to explore generational trauma, love, loss, the very essence of one’s own identity and the art of belonging, and also that as infinitesimal as our lives are in the universe the mark that we leave can stay for an eternity. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it gave me goosebumps at times, made my heart swell and brought tears to my eyes. A very powerful and insightful story between the pages.

This is not my usual genre but something drew me to this book. Catherine has things she needs to deal with in the life and her dreams take her back to viking days, but they dont feel like dreams. Catherine embarks on a journey through regression sessions and we are taken from the modern day back to the early viking days and back again.
I really liked the time switch dinamic to the book. Some areas feel a little like theres a lot going on with little explanation and others give depth but dont go anywhere but over all I really enjoyed this book. Just goes to show, if you try something new you might like it.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but the blurb sounded interesting so I thought I would give it a go and I really enjoyed it.

The book was well written with compelling and well developed characters and a story line that was engaging and compelling. It took me a while to get into but as soon as I did i couldn't put it down. The book is full of vivid descriptions too , so I could really picture the scenery and felt like I was there. I have actually been to teignmouth too so that helped.
I found myself really drawn to Merrwyn, I really liked her and really liked getting to know more about her as her chapters unfolded, I wasn't such a fan of Catherine, I don't really know why I just felt like I had more of a connection with Merrwyn.

There are some hard hitting issues within the book such as sexual assault and suicide, just to name a couple. They were all handled well and important to the story line but I would suggest checking trigger warnings before reading.

I will definitely be reading more by this author

Firstly I’d like to thank @maryturnerthomson and @lovebookstour for allowing me to be part of the book tour.

I’ll start by saying I loved this book, I’ve already passed my copy onto a friend. I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it as I don’t normally read historical themed books. But the way this book has been written was beautifully done. I found it an easy read. The book felt great, pages smooth and the font was perfect.

The story is told on a multiple timeline with Catherine in present day and Merwynn in the 9th Century.

Catherine has been experiencing a major case of Deja vu when visiting Tynemouth and sought help via hypnosis. Whilst under she has a vivid connection with Merywnn a young girl from the 9th century. The more Catherine learns about Merwynn the more she understands about her own life. Their journey is filled with self discovery, learning to love themselves and over coming mental health issues.

The book does have a few triggers, so please check these out before reading.

I was sent a copy of this book to take part in the Read along organised by Love books tours this involved answering a series of 10 questions relating to specific chapters as we progressed through the novel
My first impression is that this book is physically beautiful, the book itself was of very high-quality, lovely shiny paper and felt quite substantial. are usually read on Kindle so it made a change to be reading a lovely physical book for change. I also particularly liked the font that was chosen by the printers.
The story tales of Catherine, who dreams, starts to have dreams and feelings of déjà vu about a life that she herself has never lived. These are all mixed in with childhood memories and initially distress her considerably, so that she seeks help with hypnotherapy to try to understand what’s happening to her. In her dreams, she is a young girl in ancient Britain around the time of the Vikings and experiences some very traumatic episodes where she is hiding from rading Viking parties and is captured by them at one stage. These sections of the story to reader seem very real and are immersive and interesting. there are times when these episodes in the life of the young girl named Merwynn quite violent, we really feel the horror of the girl she hides from what could potentially be certain death. The final Viking battle is fast paced and exciting
In her real life, she struggles to keep things as normal as possible and I found these sections of the book, less interesting, rather more simplistic and her love interest, story a little bit too Mills and Boone like for my personal taste
There are quite a lot of Sex scenes which have a dominating theme which I found quite unpleasant to read ,again this is probably a personal taste issue.

I do admit that I found at times that the links between the Saxon story and the present day story quite weak and the explanations not always very clear there were times when I found myself a little bit lost in the story.
The author has a clear, straightforward, easily read prose style, making the book an enjoyable read . This is the first time I’ve taken part in a read along and answering the questions made me think rather more about the other than I might’ve done otherwise.
This novel is primarily action based novel, and a minor criticism of mine would be that I didn’t really get as much character development as I Would have liked.
The book is set in England and is a very British novel both the area where she lives and the seaside town were described beautifully making it easy for you to imagine the scenery as the story progresses
I received a copy of the book to take part in Read along organised by Love book tours. This review will appear on Goodreads and my book blog bionicSarahsbooks.wordpress.com. It will also be posted on Amazon, UK.

REVIEW

This story is told in two very different time lines; Catherine in the present and Merrwyn from the 9th century.

Catherine is struck by a very vivid memory when she is on a trip to Tynemouth, somewhere she’s never been before. Or at least that’s what she believes. Desperate to get to the bottom of this memory she was encouraged to see a hypnotherapist who helps her take a deep dive into her psyche. But what will she unearth? As she starts to unravel these memories it’s getting harder to separate her own life from Merrwyn’s. Catherine feels such a big connection to Merrwyn like they are linked in some way, their stories intertwined. They are both trying to find themselves and understand what it means to love and be loved.

I really enjoyed the mix of time lines and how the story unfolded. Beautifully written with relatable characters who I felt great empathy and compassion for. A fantastic debut novel from an author who clearly understands the struggles of life.

Beautifully crafted book ❤️

First of all, let's show some appreciation for the cover composition, formatting, and blurb of this book.

It is beautiful! With the added thick pages (perfect for annotating if you're not that!), then it's a perfect combination!

This is a beautifully crafted book that navigates many, many different themes, but for ne the ultimate message is a woman's strength and trust in her own intuition.

I love Catherine. Considering the rough past she had, she just carried on trying to make something of herself.

I also love Merwynn, the plucky 9th century Saxon who has come to Catherine to share her story and help Catherine realise she has control of her life, much like Merwynn.

Merwynn's story is terribly sad, and this mirrors Catherine's too, however there is an added level of trauma to Catherine's story that I didn't see coming, and it broke my heart.

I love all the historical references within Hingsight, and Mary must have put a great deal of time and effort into this to make sure she paints the correct Saxon picture with her words.

The very end floored me a bit, made me re-evaulate what I thought was true, and after having a chat with Mary, she purposefully made it a little ambiguous so the reader can make their mind up!

The entire dynamic of duel lives and past lives is a fascinating concept and something I thoroughly enjoyed with this book.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough to all.

I’ve always loved a dual timeline book and this one doesn’t disappoint. Catherine goes to the Priory at Tynemouth for the first time but remembers everything about it, how?

The flashbacks to the Viking times are very vivid, as are all her interactions with Merwynn. She experiences so much of her life, the good and bad, and guilt that she feels over time too. There is lots of fun in Catherine’s own life but after the hypnotherapy starts, it all changes and Merwynn comes through more and more.

A great debut, well written and lots of research done too that makes the story come alive. I really enjoyed this and will look out for more from this author for sure.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the way it was Catherine and Merrwyn’s stories entwined was really interesting to read and I liked the fact that it was a very easy flow between the two stories and not confusing like some books with dual stories.

I really liked Catherine from the start but did feel that there was something a little sad about her, as the storyline developed, I just wanted her to discover what she needed to and be okay.

Merrwyn’s character was also likeable and reading what she endured just showed how strong she was, again I felt so sorry for her at times but glad that she got the ending of her story that she chose.

I loved the writing style of this book and found that it just flowed really well. I felt that I became very invested in the stories very quickly and just had to keep reading to see where these stories were ending.

Hindsight by Mary Turner Thomson is a book that fuses past with present and as soon as I saw the book cover, I knew I had to read it. Then I read the blurb and I was doubly hooked. I found the book quite calming which is surprising given some of the areas discussed. It did give me time to reflect and think about the different time lines and how Catherines life impacted her from one time line to another. Hindsight is a very thought provoking read, sensitively written. Catherine, the main protagonist, did irritate me at times with her sense of unworthiness, but that became clear by the time the book finished. I did feel the book was slow to start, but it did pick up the pace when the time periods seemed to collide and by then I didn’t want to put the book down. The characters at the beginning felt clear but Mary Turner Thomson disguised the realities really well which leaves you guessing and wanting more.
In conclusion, a through provoking book about how a past life can impact a current life, written well with well thought out characters a must for those of you readers who love a dual time line.

When I first started reading Hindsight I thought this was going to be another version of The Girl in the Castle by James Patterson because the vibes and the themes of the story are very similar however as I got deeper and deeper into the story I was pleasantly surprised.

I loved the different situations and ‘climates’ that Merwynn found herself in from childhood all the way to motherhood. The trauma and the pain she endured as a female in the 9th century during the Viking siege was written so well and the descriptions of the time was so interesting. I loved the mix of present day and Viking era and how it balanced really well; I didn’t feel that I was mainly hearing Merwynn’s story, I also had a great insight into Catherine’s story and how the two woman and connected.

This was a really intriguing story, I was refreshing to read something other than crime and murder mystery.
