Lovely young Hart Benson does not remember her own life, but strangely enough she does recall that of another woman, Stacia Larkin, who vanished over sixty years ago when the little town of Medicine Stick was flooded to form a new lake. Hart finds herself with an intriguing husband, a family and a fortune she does not believe to be her own. It also begins to seem that somewhere out there is someone who wants to see her (or the real Hart) dead.
It was surprising that in a relatively short book the author manages to develop her main characters and resolve a very complicated plot without seeming to force things. I don't know how to describe this: there's a mystery, a romance, and spiritual time travel all going on at once.
For me, the mistakes which remained in this edition took the pleasure away from the story. I will try the sequel, hopefully I will throughly enjoy the read.
once again the author holds me spellbound... never knowing where the characters are going but anxious to follow them through one chapter after another!
