Burly & Grum and The Birthday Surprise
Burlington Bear (Burly to his friends) and Grum the groblin are best friends. It's Burly's birthday and he's looking forward to a lazy day on a tropical island beach but neither he nor Grum are aware there is a bank robber on the run until it's too late! There are lots of new characters - Detective Finn and his daughter Tara, King the crab, Gruel the bank robber and his gang The Toolkits. Burly's brithday surprise takes on a whole new meaning as they try to help Detective Finn capture the gang!

This tale is certainly full of fun and action, perfect for younger readers...and maybe to bring a smile to those older.

The Birthday surprise is a cute Burly & Grum Tales by Kate Tenbeth and Rob Jones (Illustrator).
It's Burly birthday and Mike his friend wants to take him to the beach for the day. Mike is a Angel who lives in the forest. He drops off Burly and Grum on to a deserted island all by themselves with plans to bring others later in the day.
Of course Grum finds trouble to get into. In fact he releases a bank robber from what he thinks is hunters.
Burly and Grum make new friends on the island and have a good time at the beach.
The pictures are cute and fit the story very well. It has humor,talking animals,bank robbers,police detective and his daughter,angels and groblins. Something for everyone.

This short chapter book about a bear named Burly and his groblin friend Grum having a birthday day trip to a deserted island has many surprises. The blend of unique characters sets the Burly and Grum stories apart. Who would think to put a talking bear, a groblin, a human boy and an angel all in one story? Their personalities are diverse and entertaining. The setting is perfect for such a zany story.
I recommend this book and look forward to the others in the series.
