Stole my coworker’s book while she was on break and read it while she was gone 😇
Being a CVICU nurse at heart, I’m still partial to my Bojar’s Manual of Perioperative Care in Adult Cardiac Surgery, but my copy is super old (like, Trasylol old). So it was nice to read something published this decade with lots of evidence-based reviews and recommendations. Super interesting to learn that certain pressors have immune-modulating properties. Did appreciate post-cardiac surgery shock as its own category, also with considerations for ECMO. Not only does the book cover your “classic” pressors, but adjuncts like midodrine, methylene blue, and hydroxocobalamin. Also covered things like weaning order (norepi before vaso, and don’t need to wean the vaso, nice to have the studies available for the residents who are still learning 😁) and different pressor combinations, as well as not-yet FDA-approved medications (levosimendan. That sounds fun to say. My favorite medication to say is Milrinone, but that one might supplant it if it gets approved). Overall, super easy to read (crusty old Nurse Ratched here read it in an hour while covering a break, a newer CCU nurse could definitely spend a few hours soaking it all in) comprehensive guide to probably the biggest part of our job.
