James had issues, and a cycle he needed to cut before he really can fully be with the adorable Perry he loved for a long time. Chemistry between James and Perry was there from the beginning, and enjoyed reading them. It was something to brag on since I never really liked reading more than 4000 loc length book. Take My Breath away was breaking my cycle too apparently with a long books. I loved James's struggled to fight what he believed about his inability to have a loyal relationship and the way even Elliot, his bestfriend doubted him. He still need a long way to prove it to Perry, but their happy ending gave me assurance, maybe with age, James is finally settle down. And nobody but the sweet Perry can do that to him. A sweet story with a twist :) Recommended.
I loved the first book in the Silver Fox series, and I started this one with very high hope! Thankfully, I got what I asked for: a very well written book, with amazing and lovely characters, a stoty that keeps you turning page after page and a very good dose of sexy smutty times. James and Perry start as friends, and even though the spark is there between them, they don't act on it. certainFrom there they go to friends with benefits, still ignoring feelings. The story goes on until choices are made, and they mujst deal with consequences. I really enjoyed the way the author conducted the story, with a perfect balance between their inner demons, the hurt from the past and the hope fo the future. Some parts - a minority - felt a bit dragged, but they were very important for the story as a whole. In the end, it worked out, and although this is a considerable log book, It was definitely worth the read.
Now I wait for the next book; and perhaps redemption for a certai side character...
Okay, so let me preface this by saying that this might very well be a case of "It's me, not you", so take this into account while reading this review.
I really enjoyed the book until let's say the 70% mark. I loved James and I liked Perry a lot, and I was very invested in their relationship and them finding their HEA. I love the reformed rake/playboy trope and age gap, so this was just perfect for me, right? Well, not so much, because one of the things I don't particularly care for is drama for the sake of drama.
James is a commitment-phobe, going from man to man and never settling on one, but lately he's been disenchanted with the meaningless hookups. When he runs across down-on-his-luck, younger, sweet Perry, who is James's best friend's assistant, James decides to help him out. Perry doesn't want to inconvenience James but James is so insistent and Perry finally accepts James's help in exchange for a token rent and cooking. Slowly, James starts to realize that the domesticity of it all (and having Perry in his life) is just what he'd been wanting, and they finally give in to their growing attraction. But are James's party ways really over?
So, as I said before everything was going relatively well. James looking forward to spending time with Perry, Perry coming into his own now that he had some place where he could flourish and become all he'd ever wanted to be, their chemistry, their friendship, how good they were together, and then, doubts start to arise in James. And really, some of it was realistic, but a big part was just too contrived and instead of making me root for James and Perry, it made me want to throw my poor Kindle to the wall (I didn't, but it was a close thing!). Added to this was my aggravation at Elliott being a bad best friend to James and I wanted to scream. I get that Perry was the sweet, adorable as can be MC, but James was doing pretty well resisting temptation before Elliott told him pretty much that old dogs can't learn new tricks, only to tell him the exact opposite thing later in the book. And really, it wasn't like James gave in, he was tempted yes, but he didn't act on it, and frankly, I was more upset at Perry's reaction than over what James did or didn't do. *shrugs*
This is not to say the book isn't well-written, because it was. I was totally sold to the romance between James and Perry, and I enjoyed it until the dramarama started. So try it, there's a chance you might like it more than I did.
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
Similar to book one although I warmed to Elliott more so than James.
It was an ok read. I think I would have preferred the conflict and James' panic earlier in the book maybe 65/70% mark? It all happens around 90% and the epilogue is set 6 months later and although it pains me to say, I wasn't convinced that James would remain faithful.I think if we had more time seeing James and Perry in situations where the "old" James would have been tempted I would have been more convinced.
I was Also expecting a bigger grand gesture than him turning up at the train station and declaring I love you but that was enough for Perry so who am I to argue lol.

This was a good story. Had a slow build up but good none the less. I enjoyed watching them grow closer while fighting to stay apart and not realizing it was too late. I loved how they finally came together and the change in each of them. Then the blow up happened. I wish they would have addressed friend pressure. I think if they would have been able to talk about what happened they’d have a bit of work to do but nothing as big as friends putting doubts in your head. Especially Freddie and Elliot. Some friends they were, yet neither were addressed. And don’t think Alfie gets off. Cause as he was saying not to do something he was doing what he said not to do. Writing was good, smexy was great, side characters were poo. All of them including the parents.
It's important to me in a romance book that the main characters change each other by their love, and that's exactly what happened so delightfully here. Maybe James was changed more than Perry - though he had so much farther emotionally to go! - but his character stood out very strongly for me. Although it was frustrating to read when he started to doubt himself again, I think it was very realistic that his commitment to Perry didn't happen overnight. For me, it made their final dynamics much stronger, and their mutual attraction more equal. I found it a slower burn than book #1, though they were in close proximity from an earlier stage. I liked Elliot's advice to James towards the end, and reckon James needed straight-talking well before then LOL.
Take My Breath Away did just that in places. At times I truly LOL’d and then I also shed more than a few tears. This is a great age-gap story but it’s not daddy kink. James has been flirting with Perry for quite some time, whenever he visits his best friend’s office where Perry is his friend’s executive assistant. It’s all been just innocent fun, right?
Perry has just had a bad breakup and has nowhere to live. James rescues him after a night of over-indulging. When James learns that Perry has nowhere to live, he takes him home with him. It takes some convincing but Perry eventually agrees to stay with James and rent a room from him until he gets back on his feet.
There was so much to love about this book. It truly is a slow burn as the first kiss doesn’t happen until about 50% into the book but boy look out after that! James and Perry are so good together but James just can’t seem to believe that he is good enough for Perry; he’s afraid that his old philandering ways aren’t gone for good as he could never resist playing the field before.
Perry doesn’t ever want to be totally dependent on someone again. He wants to follow through on plans he’s been making to start his own business but he can’t resist James and believes that they have something really good between them.
It takes the help of a good friend to keep James from letting Perry get away and the end result is a wonderful HEA. There is also a great epilogue. I sure hope there will be more books in this series.
Note: I almost forgot to say how much I enjoyed the scenes where James and Perry are dog sitting Elliot’s dog, Jasper. There are some LOL moments and also a very touching one where James totally proves he doesn’t dislike Jasper nearly as much as he says he does.
A copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
This is the second book in Ali Ryecart's Silver Fox series and I really enjoy the characters that have been written so far. It's quite a variety with Take My Breath Away focusing on James and Perry, Elliot from Commitment Issues best friend and PA respectively. James has always been a flirt towards Perry when he's come by Elliot's office but coming across the young man in a late night cafe, excessively drunk and revealing his current problems. James helps him out with his ex and living situation but the feelings he stirs up are not something James is used to. Perry is aware of what James is like with other men, he's been very honest about his history but that doesn't stop feelings and the strong attraction that they eventually give into. It's a learning curve for both men as they each see themselves in a certain way but Perry is determined to have a fresh start with his new business. James has taken a leap of faith that he can be monogamous with Perry but his history does not give good odds, especially when he has no belief in himself. They are so very good together and their happiness shines through which then makes it that much harder to read when they struggle. I was surprised with how quickly things are resolved at the end of the book, given how hard they'd both been affected but it gave them both their HEA. I also didn't think that Elliot was as supportive as I thought he would be considering how long the two have been friends but then he had also seen all sides of James over the years. It's nice catching up with people we met in book one as well as with some new people. I enjoyed their story over and liked the pace of the book throughout. I was drawn into their relationship from the start and my heart went out to both men. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Take My Breath Away is the second book in Ali Ryecart’s Silver Foxes series. We met James in the first book as Elliot’s best friend, and I was quite intrigued by him as a character, so I was excited to get to his book. This story is a slow burn as both men feel an attraction, but they build a strong friendship before acting on their feelings. James is clear, to himself and to Perry, that he is not interested in commitment. He has a failed attempt at building a relationship and he regrets his lack of fidelity, and he has convinced himself he isn’t’ capable of more. Of course, once he and Perry start spending time together, James finds he has no interest in anyone else, or in his old life. But James doesn’t trust himself, doesn’t truly believe he has changed, or even can change.
Perry works for James' best friend. perry is cute and James like to tease and flirt him. He would never approach Perry, he's far too young. But finding Perry in a coffee shop, drunk as a skunk, he can't NOT look after him. And when he finds out why Perry is in such a state, he rescues him. Perry enjoys the flirting with the sexy older man, but he is the best friend of his boss. When James comes to his rescue, he hides his crush. James just wants to help, right? Besides, Perry doesn't want to be a notch in James' bedpost. But feelings have a way of weedling their way into things, and neither man is powerful enough to resist.
Oh, James! You'd think, wouldn't you? You'd think that by the time a man gets to 50+ he'd have his sh*t together, and be settled down quite happily by now. But no, not James. he has a f**k buddy, sure, but he's quite happy (he tells himself this lie!) hooking up. But when Perry comes to stay with him, things change. Deep, profound things change. And when James and Perry give in to their attraction, and make a go of things? What does james do? He messes up. BIG time. And then he runs! Oh I wanted to punch him in the flipping face! But then I wanted to wrap him up in cotton wool and love him so hard. Which is odd, since his age is greater than mine!
But it's JAMES that breaks my heart here, not Perry. I expected it to be the other way round, I really did!
Oh don't get me wrong, Perry makes me cry at the beginning, but it's james that brings out the extremes in emotion from me, it really is. It's tagged as a touch of angst, but James has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than a touch, trust me!
I loved that Elliot could see that James would be the one to run. He told him, he really did, not to run but still James does. Elliot told James he was worried mosre about him than Perry. He DOES redeem himself, beautifully, but he breaks his own heart along with Perry's before he gets to that point.
I loved that Perry was able to fulfill his dream, and do what really calls to his soul.
I loved book one, Elliot's book, and I gave it 5 stars, but I loved this book MORE!!
Second in the Silver Foxes series, it's not necessary to read the first book to enjoy this age gap romance between a twentysomething executive assistant who's down on his luck and his boss's best friend, who happens to be a hot silver fox who's allergic to commitment. However, if you plan to read them both, I'd recommend reading them in order, because the first book's couple are in this one quite a bit. If this were MF, Perry would probably be considered a damsel in destress, with James being the knight in slightly tarnished armor, but since it's MM, it's much more nuanced than that. Set in and around London, it's filled with lovely British English and fair amount of snark and dry wit. I quickly became invested in the characters and wanted to smack them upside their heads a few times.
Told in first person, present tense with dual POV, the angst factor is about a seven on a scale of 1-10, with one being Sean Ashcroft/Helen Juliet and 10 being Nicky James/Tal Bauer. No cheating, no sharing, just two men feeling their way through a relationship neither of them expected.
I did want just a bit more from the resolution of the conflict late in the book. The tension built beautifully, but then sort of fell flat to me. Overall it was still a satisfying HEA, though, and I recommend it.
How is anyone supposed to change when they are constantly told they won't, even by their nearest and dearest? James was let down by his friends in this book.
Take my Breath Away is the second book in the Silver Foxes serie by Ali Ryecart. This was my first read by this author and I really liked. This book is the story of James and Perry. Their story was sweet, sexy and very well written
The story was not bad for the most part, following an expected path then fell apart for the last 20%. That was the stupidest reasoning for a breakup and even sillier, rushed make-up. Meh.
James was out on the town from habit rather than enjoyment, so when he found Perry drunk and broke, he had to ride to the rescue. Perry was his best friend’s assistant – a man with who James continually flirted.
Take My Breath Away is book two in the Silver Foxes MM Romance series. After reading book one, Commitment Issues, I eagerly delved into the pages with anticipation, and I wasn’t disappointed.
My attention was grabbed from the first page. Telling the story in the first person from the viewpoints of James and Perry allowed me to see into the core of these impressive leading men. They were first introduced in book one as part of the supporting cast, and while it isn’t necessary to read Commitment Issues to enjoy Take My Breath Away, there are other character crossovers.
James is every part an alpha male, a player by nature, and a confessed selfish man. Until he met Perry, James knew who he was, what he wanted, and how to live the high life. His association with Perry reveals multiple layers, including his vulnerable side and a man who sees a new life that scares and excites him. For the first time, he wants to put someone else first.
Perry is the best executive assistant anyone could want, but he has dreams. When his heart is thrashed, James is the one he leans on to rebuild himself. James gives him the confidence to believe and reach for his dreams. Whether he gets there, you’ll have to read.
Of course, the path of true love is not a straight or smooth road (there wouldn’t be a tale if it were). To tell their story, the author has a way with words that suits me and my sense of humor – i.e. plenty of snark. But what I enjoyed the most were the Britishism’s, like, ‘not a sausage’, ‘pissed as a newt’, ‘sack of spuds,’ and more. Oh, and let’s not forget that biscuits are classed as an essential food item – which is absolutely correct. I’ve no doubt some of these phrases are used elsewhere, but to me, they are home. It’s these small details that endear a story to one’s heart.
One niggle, which is probably described as a character trait, is the constant jaw tightening, and there was repeated use of ‘as if he read my thoughts’. I know I’m picky, but Commitment Issues was a revelation to me and set a high bar. Other than the age gap, and sarcasm, Take My Breath Away isn’t a variation on the same theme with different characters. The situations Perry and James find themselves differ from Elliot and Freddie in book one. And while the relationship between Perry and James is slow burn, which some may find a little frustrating – I found it allowed their characters to shine through.
I found Take My Breath Away an engaging joy to read and a book where I wasn’t content to go to bed before knowing the end.

Tl;dr: I highly recommend this book, and I loved almost everything about it.
First: this is a beautifully done slow-burn. If you want to watch two people fall in love with sweetness, humor, and plenty of emotional as well as physical chemistry, this is the right book for you. I cannot say enough about how good the “slowly falling for each other” part of this book is.
Second: the protagonists. I liked Perry’s dedication to his dream, his quick wit, and his ability to roll with the (many) punches life dealt him. I liked James’ confidence, his charisma, his innate kindness and his protective instincts. I liked how much he tried to do the right thing, and I desperately wanted him to be able to see himself for the very good person he is.
So: great romance, great characters, and mostly, a truly engrossing plot. Eventually, a great HEA. Loved it all. One thing, however, that I didn’t love:
I found the way the inevitable “when things almost go to pieces” moment of the relationship in this book was handled absolutely maddening. That James would have doubts in himself made sense with his character...but the way Perry reacts is beyond over the top-- it puts all the emotional agency in the relationship squarely on James’ shoulders, leaving him a helpless yet somehow wrathful victim. I also didn’t love the way James’ best friend had been undercutting his confidence and sense of self in relationships from the beginning of the story under the veneer of support, only to turn around and say the *exact opposite* after the blowup-- not helpful, dude. I don’t love conflict for the sake of conflict, which this felt like, and I honestly could not figure out why James was the one on whom the entire burden of apology fell. Seriously, the man’s been Perry’s guardian angel the whole story, and then suddenly he’s the villain...who doesn’t even really do anything... because...drama?
And now that I’ve got that out of my system: this book is good. So good. It’ll make you feel for the characters and celebrate their hard-earned HEA. Well worth the read.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This isn't a review. I rarely comment on books that I have finished reading but in this case, I HAVE GOT TO GET IT OUT OF MY CHEST.
Before I start, Let me just start off by saying that the reason why I gave this 2 stars is due to personal preference. This is very subjective. Technically, this is a ME problem. Not the author nor the plot. When I'm reading books, I try to be neutral and see where it's coming from, but this.. THIS IS A PERSONAL THING.
I don't usually read slowburn books because I find them too sloggy to read. But I'm forced to read this because I loved the first book (and yes I'm going to read book 3). It started really well. I loved this type of slowburn because it is very plot-based. Until the 38th chapter, HOLY CRAP I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT AT ALL. Again, this is a ME problem. Technically he didn't cheat, but the fact that he touched the neck of his ex-FWB and had lewd thoughts but persistently resisted, It didn't do justice to me. I WAS APPALED. As I'm currently typing this, i have a realization he does have a history of being unfaithful, but damn i was caught off guard.
Again, I understand the author's decision to include it since it adds drama. but for ME, oh my god i suddenly lost my energy to finish it. Though he really had some character development and proved to MC 2 that he's a changed man, the thought of him tempted to do it just really irked me. Again, for the nth time, a ME problem. They got their HEA though so that's that.
Plot-wise. I give it 4.5 stars. Really, I love the start of the book. It's so good!! That certain chapter and sudden plot twist just really came out of nowhere. But personally, with the emotions I'm currently having, I'd have to give it 2 stars. I got traumatized lmaom
This had a potential to be a 5 star for me but I was let down to see James have a couple weak moments after him and Perry got together..I think the book would have had a better arc for each characters if the story would have ended around 60/70%.
I truly did enjoy the book and a lot of times the writing and angst reminded me of Sierra Simones writing in Saint which was nice.
The pros of this book: -even though there’s a significant age difference 53/25 I like how there’s no power/kink dynamic involved. They’re both on the same “level”, it was a nice change than most MM romance books I’ve read
-Perry’s character was fantastic. I enjoyed his demeanor, one second you think he’s this shy guy and the next he surprises you with his sarcastic one liners. He had spunk!
-I also liked the slow burn of this, I’m not usually the biggest fan but the build up of tension gradually suited these characters
Cons: -I’m confused by James character. In the beginning he was a suave, confident almost arrogant in how self assured he was but by the end of the book he lost that edge. And I’m not sure if it’s because he was hiding behind his “bed notch” ways, so his arrogance was a mask he wore to protect his feelings or what.
- also the infidelity thing. I would have liked for Perry to have been enough for James from the beginning to not be tempted. I think it would have made for a better story
But all in all I’m glad I read this story, it’s the first one I’ve read and I plan on reading the others

On a Friday night out James finds his best friend's young executive assistant blind drunk and slumped over a table in the corner of a bar and so feels that he needs to rescue him. Yes, he can give him all the help he needs to become the man he wants to be but not himself as he does not do commitment. Perry has always fantasised about James who is a sexy silver fox but he can only be his Knight in Shining Armour in his fantasies as he knows that he lives his life free of ties and commitment.
I enjoyed this story which was a slow burn with lots of angst. In the end, it was a sweet story with James determined to treat Perry right by not touching him even taking him in as a lodger when he couldn't find anywhere acceptable to live nearby to doing what he could to support his dreams for a new career. I loved that he was able to convince himself that he was doing "the right thing" when really he wasn't. When he cracked he still fooled himself that he was incapable of long-term commitment until it became apparent that he had to because he was unable to live without Perry. I did find one thing that I did find impossible - James' job would mean that Perry would need a security clearance in order to live with him let alone anything else otherwise James would lose his own. Easy to read, feel and understand it does have a HEA you just have to keep reading until it happens. This is an MM romance with some mature content with a little light bondage.
Not a very great start imo with James explicitly barreling over Perry's request to stop evaluating escalating the situation with his ex. I get it was supposed to be this chivalrous "I'll take care of you and establish dominance move" but it honestly felt more like a red flag than anything considering how openly he ignored Perry's objections. It'd be one thing if Perry was telling him off something completely self-sacrificing but physically assaulting Perry's ex realistically carried repercussions to Perry that James was signing him up for (and that's not romantic or sweet). The following implication that he learned to do controlled violence through his time in the army + police didn't really help establish a better character imo (if anything, that piece of info made him more problematic)
It got worse when James went along with Perry for his search for a new room. Having him just list out all the obvious flaws of the places they visited wasn't sweet or romantic, it felt like he was rubbing Perry's poorness in his face and making Perry think that only staying with him was the sensible option (which sure, but I'd have liked that to come from Perry alone rather than feeling like James persuaded him to do so).
I called it at 24% when there hadn't been any real romance. There was lots of lust from both sides, but nothing in particular that told me that Perry and James were good for each other or were falling in love.
Take My Breath Away is an excellent continuation of the Silver Foxes Romance series. I ended up loving both of these guys. Their interactions and proximity gain each of them things they didn’t expect, emotionally and physically. The give and take are beautiful to watch, as is the slow and steady shift into romance and passion. I love the way they tiptoe around each other—neither willing to mess up the friendship they are building. But the slow burn is worth the wait, and the sexy times are well done. Mmmmm I didn’t think of the substantial age gap until it was mentioned. These characters make it a non-issue. They both bring a lot to the relationship. They had to learn to trust themselves, though. The conflict near the end was hard to read. OMG, I cried and cried. I hurt for Perry and James. I honestly didn’t see how they would get through that awful time. I was rooting for them from the first, and to see them suffer so horribly was painful to watch. They made it through, though. They are very different personalities, but they mesh well together, forming a connection that gives me confidence in their HEA. I look forward to more from this author.
**I enjoyed seeing characters from previous books. Mostly. One character I wanted to slap upside the head and tell him to shut up and go home.
